Argumentative Essays
Failure is the step towards success. Do you agree?
It is often assumed that failure is a deterrent to achievement. Rather, failure should be seen as a
motivator for a person to keep trying until the objective or aim of a particular mission is fulfilled.
Failure often times leads a person to feel helpless, disappointed and depressed. However, one should
not allow this to set them back in trying to achieve the ultimate aim one has set out to do. Failure in
the beginning can often be a powerful incentive to reassess one's position in wanting to achieve the
particular aims; to analyse whether the purpose is worth the trouble the person has to undergo and
the whether the obstacles are surmountable. Practical and...show more content...
Another disadvantage of being an only is that he lacks companionship. He has no brother or sister
to confide in. Growing up as an only child can be very lonely. If you have siblings you will have
to share everything, so you get less; but you also get less of the bad things. Siblings can support
and comfort each in times of trouble. The elder siblings learn to care for the younger ones and the
younger ones learn to respect their elder siblings and have someone to look up to besides their
parents. You are more balanced person than an only child. Another advantage of having siblings is
that your parents' attention is divided among your siblings. As a result, there is less pressure on you
to perform well, be it academically or in other areas. Having siblings also means that you have
companionship, the joy of caring and sharing, and security. I, personally, am happy that I am not an
only child.
Students should not take up part time jobs. Discuss.
Nowadays, students love to have part–time jobs. Their parents approve it easily as they are said to
gain experience from working. However, having a job is a big responsibility for a student. Before,
teenagers at their age were working to help their family because of poverty. Nevertheless, they
were actually eager to study and learn at school for their future. It was not the same as the teenagers
nowadays where they are more likely competing to each other to have a job. Most of the

Self Centered Generation
Violet Dokaj
Are Today's Youth More Self
–Centered than Previous Generations? I chose this topic because it is
one that is very obvious. Today's younger generations are very narcissistic. They have grown much
more self–centered than other generations and have changed their priorities. We are now living in
the I–Generation. Where looking pretty and uploading selfies has become the norm. Where children
are losing their youth in order to get attention and feel important. Psychologists Dr. Jean Twenge and
Sigmund Freud explore and researches the younger generations. Being a narcissist's means that you
are self–centered, and it is the pursuit of gratification from vanity, or selfish admiration of one's own
attributes, that derive from...show more content...
Psychologist Dr. Jean Twenge, author of Generation Me, also studied the younger generation. In her
book, she describes the youth as "are tolerant, confident, open–minded, and ambitious but also
disengaged, narcissistic, distrustful, and anxious". This makes a lot of sense, and it is kind of
refreshing to find evidence that supports your opinion. Dr. Twenge describes how the "gen me–ers"
are redefining the meaning of being an individual in today's society. She says they have distinct
preferences about everything from compensation to work–life balance to having a personal impact.
So their priorities are in the wrong places.
Dr. Twenge did many experiments during her studies. She did an experiment on the Narcissistic
personality inventory, in 2006. This test resulted in the scores during the 2000 were much higher in
narcissism than the ones from the 1990's and 1980's. Professor Twenge also acknowledges that as
part of normal developments, 18– and 19–years–olds are generally self–focused and narcissistic, but
she says they are a lot more narcissistic now than they were in previous generations. They also
found that men scored a little higher in narcissism than women, but women are catching up fast.
These tests and studies open the door to so much more. Twenge then realizes the need of plastic
surgeries have increased. It is all about looking the best and looking like a Barbie doll. People are
taking vanity to the extreme by trying to make themselves look perfect.

NFL Argumentative Essay
The National Football League (NFL) has been under scrutiny because the NFL had downplayed
the effects of head trauma and its links to CTE. Only in recent years has the NFL gave into public
demand to do something about the concussion issue. However, the NFL could still do more to help
its players. The article by Rodney Smith explores the benefits and drawbacks of litigation,
administrative action, legislative action, and associational action by the NFL in dealing with these
issues.
It is estimated that there are as much as 5,000 former NFL players that will take part of a class
action lawsuit against the NFL. According to the author, the benefits of such litigation is that
"players, who have suffered the debilitating effects of CTE and brain injuries, and their families will
be able to adequately recover for their losses." However, a lump sum of payment, which amounts to
about ten billion dollars, would bankrupt the NFL. Instead, the author suggests that the NFL should
pay each afflicted player thirty to fifty thousand dollars annually "which would clearly help with
living and related expenses" and would not bankrupt the NFL. In addition, the NFL would be...show

The benefit of getting Congress involved is that the NFL is more likely to act. For example, on
March 2012, "Senator Dick Durbin announced plans to hold hearings regarding bounties being
paid to players for injuring other players." Then on June 20, 2012, Commissioner Goodell of the
NFL called for reforms to deal with the practice causing Durbin to cancel the hearings. However,
the drawbacks of legislative action are that legislators lack the expertise in the field of football, there
are "political costs for legislators who might be viewed as interlopers" for reforming football, and
former NFL players might not have the money necessary to hire lobbyists. However, one solution
that might benefit both the NFL and its players is associational

Argument From Analogy Essay
The argument from analogy is an inductive argument that focuses on the problem of other minds
and aims to show that we are justified in inferring the existence of other minds. British philosopher,
Bertrand Russell, describes the argument from analogy as follows: "The behaviour of other people
is in many ways analogous to our own, and we suppose that it must have analogous causes. What
people say is what we should say if we had certain thoughts, and so we infer that they probably have
these thoughts. They give us information which we can sometimes subsequently verify" (Russell,
"Analogy", p89). Norman Malcolm argues that the argument from analogy does poorly in its
attempts to show that we are justified in inferring the existence of other minds. In assessing whether
the argument from analogy succeeds in its aims, I will raise and respond to Malcolm's objection
against the argument from analogy; Austrian–born British philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein's 'Beetle
in a Box' thought experiment; as well as Welsh philosopher H. H. Price's argument and English
philosopher Stuart Hampshire's argument in defence of the argument from analogy....show more

From subjective observation, Russell claims to know that A, which is a thought or feeling,
causes B, which is a bodily act (Russell, "Analogy", p110). Russell argues that believing in the
existence of other minds requires some postulate, and describes this postulate to be "If, whenever
we can observe whether A and B are present or absent, we find that every case of B has an A as a
causal antecedent, then it is probable that most B's have A's as causal antecedents, even in cases
where observation does not enable us to know whether A is present or not" (Russell, "Analogy",
