Honolulu. Most of the island is occupied by the United States Navy and is
home to US pacific Fleet attack
• The attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan brought the US into World War 2
December 7, 1941.
3. The Attack
• On November 26, 1941, a
Japanese task force of six
aircraft carriers departed
northern Japan en route to a
position to northwest of Hawaii
• Two attacks took place. The first
wave carried the bulk of the
explosives that did most the
damage. The second took out
anything that remained.
• The attack was intended as a
preventive action to keep the US
from influencing the Empire of
Japan was starting on the other
side of the world.
4. The Result
• Four Navy battleships
were sunk, three
cruisers, three
destroyers, an anti-
aircraft training ship,
and one minelayer
were all destroyed.
• 188 US aircrafts were
destroyed
• 2,402 personnel were
killed and 1,282 were
wounded
