Final Paper
Death and life threatening illnesses is not a subject that one likes to talk about. It is more complex,
when the subject of wills and end of life desires arise. In this paper, I will be discussing ethical
situations that arise when dealing with this specific problem.
I will be talking about the potential consequences that the deceased family must deal with when a
will has not either been formed or performed properly. Next, I will be looking at the differences
between palliative and recuperative care; I will also give my view on who should be included in the
decision to alter care from recuperative to palliative. My next topic will be deliberating the issue of

If one fails to execute a living will, a person might opt not to establish a power of attorney. This also
leads to difficulty for one to control the kind of medical treatment to adapt. Whenever an estate hits
intestate situation, the court will take responsibility and pay outstanding debts and expenses before
distribution the property takes place. When the court has to take the decision of the distribution of
property it will only take into consideration the family members on the deceased.
Question #2 www.nationalsensusproject.org, says that palliative care stands for patient and family
focused care that optimizes the quality of life anticipating, treating suffering, preventing. Palliative
care means continues continuum of illness that includes addressing physical, social, and emotional,
spirituals and intellectual needs and facilitation of autonomy. We can say palliative care is used to
explain pain management when individuals are either healthy or when individuals are in their
process of dying. Palliative care leads to the easing of suffering in physical and mental health
without really curing it. Health resources and service administrations define recuperative care as a
short–term medical care, and the type of management offered to people who

The Unique Adventures Of A Nursing Major
The Unique Adventures of a Nursing Major
"Bound by paperwork, short on hands, sleep and energy... nurses are rarely short on caring." –
Sharon Hudacek, Nurse Theory
Planning A Future
Nursing students have been going to school their entire lives just like anyone else getting an
education and trying to better themselves as students. We do this not only for those who support us
such as our parents but for ourselves. We have been asked this same question from the second we
got our first fire truck, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Even as young children we are
beginning to make decisions and choices based off the things that make us happy. But realistically at
such an adolescent age we are making our choice based on the color we enjoy ... Show more content

Participating in extracurricular activities is an expectation but with such little free time nursing
students are unable to join the clubs that they would like to be a part of and play sports.
Another way that nursing students are affected is how much harder they must study and hit the
books in many ways to get the information to stick in their brains. Katie a nursing student here at
our University, states, "There are many nights that I am up at 3 am and I am studying as I fall asleep
over my laptop". Most students simply take normal classes and aren't required to go to labs that can
sometimes feel as if they will never end because they can take so long. But nursing students are
required to take a good number of classes that involve labs which is almost like two classes in one.
This is not even including the several shadowing/ internship hours that are required to get into some
of the more prestigious Universities. Katie Thielen along with most other nursing students spent
their spring breaks here St. Ambrose University because they must get certified so that they can
work in a hospital/ retirement home and get paid for their time.
Stress = Success
In hopes of limiting or minimizing stress levels, Katie will be taking summer courses. These courses
are not required to be taken over the summer, but they are highly advised because students are less
overwhelmed when they seek to take a few classes

What Are Human Rights? Essay
The rights you have simply because you are human
Every single human being on this planet has rights (What Are Human Rights, n.d). These rights are
given to us through birth, and the day I was asked, what my human rights were, I found myself
speechless. I did not know how to answer the question, which at the time sounded so easy. I forgot
about the question that had me so puzzled, and just brushed it off, ironically six month later I get an
assignment on the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. After reading this
historic document, I realized how important human rights are. I believe most people take human
rights for granted, we know they exist, but we don't even know what they are and what they entail.
This made me think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After World War II, the document called "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights" with the
thirty rights (articles) to which all people are authorized to have(UDHR, 1948). The idea of "The
Universal Declaration of Human Rights" was to describe in detail the rights that all people were
entitled to in the world, in hopes to preventing anymore wars like the two world wars, which
resulted in millions of people's deaths and destruction of many countries(UDHR, 1948). The
Universal Declaration of Human Rights was accepted around the world as the document which
defined the thirty rights that all people where entitled to, no matter where you were from, lived, born
or did(UDHR, 1948).
It seems as if many organizations have in some way adapted to the principles of the United Nations
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this is evident at "Saint Leo University". Saint Leo
University has incorporated six core values into the heart of the Universities community. These core
values are Excellence, Community, Respect, Personal Development, Responsible Stewardship, and
Integrity(Saint Leo University, n.d). While evaluating these core values, I thought to myself, what
do any of these values have to do with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights?
While I'm sure this can be a debatable subject, I feel that two out of the six

Observational And Social Learning Theory Essay
Critical Thinking Activity #1: Observational/Social Learning Theory The purpose of this paper is to
discuss the validity of the Observational/Social Learning Theory. I will investigate what the
observational/social learning theory is and its use in an everyday classroom environment. I will also
relate this learning theory to any relevant Saint Leo core values. What is the observational/social
learning theory? The observational learning theory, sometimes called the social learning theory,
states that an individual can learn by observing another person's (i.e. model) behavior or actions.
"An observer's behavior can be affected by the positive or negative consequences–called vicarious
reinforcement or vicarious punishment– of a model's behavior" (Funderstanding.com, 2011). In
order for observational learning to occur, four process must take place: attention, retention,
production and motivation. The observer must pay attention to the model's behavior (attention);
retain the behavior in memory (retention); be able to produce the behavior them self (production);
and have a reason to want to copy the model's behavior (motivation).
The evidence of the validity of the observational/social learning theory can be found in the research
of Albert Bandura. Albert Bandura conducted a series of experiments known as the "Bobo doll"
studies. In these experiments, he was able to show that children's behavior was changed by watching
how others acted toward the bobo doll. After watching a

The First Stop On My Cpr Tour
Crystal City Underground
The first stop on my CPR tour was the Crystal City Underground. This awesome cave sits in the
heart Crystal City, which is located about 30 miles south of St Louis, MO. Carved into the
Mississippi river bluff this cavern was once an active sand mine serving a local glass plant,
Pittsburgh Plate Glass factory, with materials for almost a century. In the 1980's the plant and the
mine were closed, allowing water that was pumped out for decades to begin to flood portions of the
cave. The recent owners of this cave decided to turn the property into a tourist attraction. They built
up area's for children to explore, adults to play games, a stage for bands to play, a sitting area with
large TV's for sports and other event enjoyment, and barges to take tours on while exploring the
depths of vastness this cave has to offer. On the day of my arrival I had the pleasure of experiencing
a dark path being well lit with over 400 carved pumpkins along what was pleasantly titled the Great
Pumpkin Walk. As I ventured along I could see multiple paths that led to deeper parts of the cavern.
Many of these paths were blocked off for what I am assuming were safety reasons. After walking
what seemed to be a half mile I arrived at the tour barge. Loaded with 8 passengers our tour guide,
Steve, took us deep into the cave and explained its history while showing us fascinating things. I
witnessed my first close up experience with cave bats, got to see permanent

Bodega Dreams : A Hero Is A Hero
What is a hero? According to Dictonary.com, a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Today, when most people use the term hero,
they are using it to refer to someone with courage or honesty. There are several different examples in
society that people have been labeled as a hero. Many see Martin Luther King as a hero for what he
did for the African American community, Chris Kyle because of his heroic actions and bravery in
combat and Neil Armstrong for his dedication to our great nation. For me, a hero is someone who is
willing to do the right thing without regards to the consequences. Everyone listed above risked their
lives for something bigger than themselves. That's exactly what I observed in the story Bodega
Dreams. The story is about a teacher who treats his students with disrespect and with no cares of
how their lives end up. Mr. Blessington is considered the villain in this story. He is the English
teacher who tells his students that the boys will end up in jail and that all the girls were going to end
up hooking. According to my standards this individual has no business in the school district. The
hero of the story belongs to Mr. Tapia, the Science teacher at Julia de Burgos Junior High. This
teacher stood up for his students. He cared for them in a way that no other teacher there did. That is
why I chose him as the hero. He stood for something without regards to the consequences. He

Abstract There was a time when one never heard about the police shooting a suspect. Now it seems
as if every day there a new story on the news of police shootings and the ensuing chaos. In the
middle of all of this there runs a question. Do the police tend to be quicker on the trigger when it is a
black suspect they are chasing? What do the numbers and research say on the matter?
Despite the regular reports in the news about police shootings in recent times, the overall picture
does not show an excessive problem. In over 14 million arrests performed, only 3,600 people are
shot each year, with only 1,000 being fatal.. This number seems to be huge, but when one considers
that there are an estimated half a million police officers in the U.S. this number becomes rather
insignificant by statistical standards. This does not eliminate the need to investigate such instances
of the utilization of deadly force. It cannot be considered capital punishment. In essence the officer
becomes judge, jury, and executioner. It takes away the suspects right to a fair trial by their peers.
There is another similarity between police use of deadly force and capital punishment. There is a
marked issue

Student Dismissal Letter
To the Associate Director of Undergraduate Student Advising,
I am writing this letter to address the email I received that has denied my admission into Saint Leo
University. My hope in writing this is to have that decision overturned so I can enter this exceptional
institution and complete the goals I have set for myself in higher education. As noted in the denial
letter my cumulative GPA from prior education was less than a 2.0 average, for which there is no
excuse. Poor performance in a collegiate environment is something that is completely unacceptable,
and I would appreciate the chance to show how I plan to remedy this situation and complete my
scholastic objectives at the highest level.
When fresh out of high school at 18 years of age, I decided to enroll in the local community college
to begin my education. I made this decision even though I had a scholarship offer to play in the band
at Troy State University. Unfortunately, there was a desire to stay in the local area with the idea that
I could still hang around with an unfortunate group of friends who had decided college was not for

The Death Penalty and the Innocent Essay
In the United States, many crimes are considered to be punishable by a life sentence or a sentence of
a few years. However, many crimes have earned people capital punishment, also known as the death
penalty. The first known death penalty was acknowledge by a legal document known as the Code of
Hummarubi. In this document, written in the 1700s, it is mentioned that twenty–five crimes were
punished by death. The crimes included being unfaithful to one's partner and even helping slaves
escape (Guernsey, 2009). By 1846, the state of Michigan became one of the first US states to abolish
the death penalty for all committed crimes. Michigan now replaces the death penalty with life
imprisonment (Bohm, 2007). However, then the inventor Thomas ... Show more content on

To end the life, the inmate is injected with sodium thiopental, which puts the criminal to sleep. The
next flow is the pancuronium bromide, which paralyzes the victim's entire muscle system, which
stops the heart from beating. In the end, the flow of potassium chloride stops the heart. Since 1976,
1,198 executions have been made by lethal injection, and 34 states authorize this method (Death
Penalty Information, 2014).
Electrocution was first practiced in New York City by the use of an electric chair. The person is
strapped to a chair with belts across his chest, legs, and arms and a metal skullcap–shaped is then
attached to the forehead. It will run between 500 and 2000 volts, which can take about 30 seconds
for the inmate to lose his life (Death Penalty Information, 2014). Another use of execution was the
use of the gas chamber during the 1920s. Gee Jon was the first prisoner on which the gas chamber
was used. The officers of the prison, in Nevada, pumped gas into his cell while he was sleeping.
Firing Squad is a method of execution that is mainly practiced in the state of Utah. This was done by
having the prisoner stand 20 feet away from the guards, and the five of the guards would aim with
.30 caliber rifles and shoot at the prisoner's heart. The prisoner would then die as a result of blood
loss. The last practice of execution that was done until the 1890s was hanging. This was a primary
form of execution used in the United States. "If the

and strive to foster their commitment to excellence in our work. Our community's strength depends

Introduction. I decided I wanted to visit an Alcoholics Anonymous group meeting in my local area.
It would be a new experience for me because I have never been to that type of meeting before in my

people, both men and women. The only type of meeting I had ever been to in my life was either
church related or business related. I chose to go to this type of meeting for three reasons; I wanted to
get out of my comfort zone, I have never been around anyone with substance abuse, and I wanted to

The Criminal Justice Program At Saint Leo University
As a child, if you asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up, and I answered a lawyer
undoubtingly. Once my parents denied signing any of my financial aid forms for school, all of my
optimism for that dream went downhill. One thing that has always been consistent is my love for
fighting for what is right for the people. My passion for the law and people aided my decision to join
the military. Upon my retirement from the military, I was compelled to enroll in the Criminal Justice
program at Saint Leo University. After attending a few courses, I deliberated on becoming a forensic
psychologist. I believed that becoming a forensic psychologist would allow me to be involved in
legal cases while being the eyes and the ears of the courtroom. As time went on I pondered, if I
would be helping people or the court system. Now, my interest in the subfields of psychology lies
between forensics and counseling. I am not as knowledgeable in either area, so I plan on taking a
course in each class to see what feels right. Being in the military all these years, have made me
desire to do what my instincts say I was born to do. I first became interested in law as a child when I
started reading mystery books. I have always wondered what made the character commit the crime
and if they would have to do the time. Growing up in the inner–city of Chicago, the news would put
emphasis on all sorts of crimes. The constant reminder of crime grew my interest in people and
human behavior. Why did

Joint Hazard Response Team Case Study

In preparation for the DRNC, Democratic Republic National Convention, being held in Miami–
Dade Florida, the Crime Scene Investigations Workgroup composed numerous teams throughout the
various agencies in order to properly respond to events such as chemical, biological, radiological,
nuclear, or explosive occurrences that could befall at the event. The Joint Hazard Response Team
(JHRT) was one such that contained experts from various disciplines including the Miami Dade
Police Department (MDPD), Miami Police Department (MPD), Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms

Forensic Investigation Team (JFIT). While some of the personnel serve on both teams, the
difference between the two teams is that the Joint Hazard Response Team reacts to weapons of mass

Should College Athletes Be Paid?
It is illegal for cooperation, a business, in which the NCAA clearly states it is a business, not to pay
its employees. Student–athletes are employees for the university, but are not labelled as one to avoid
compensation for working. Meanwhile, student–workers at universities all over the nation are
considered employees of the school, so are student–athletes. In the Florida Bar Journal the author
states: If college athletes must be recognized as employees of their respective schools, would they
have the right to file a charge of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission for discrimination if they are dropped on the depth chart? Would universities be
required to provide workers' compensation insurance for athletes? If a player is injured, would the
school have to provide leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act and return the player to his or
her position once leave has concluded? Would the team have to provide players with qualifying
health insurance benefits under the Affordable Care Act (Mans, L. K., & Gibbs, J. E. (2015) (13))?
Yes, in my opinion this is one of the main reasons why the NCAA and universities separate student–
workers and student–athletes. If the NCAA was to deem student–athletes as employees of the
university than the NCAA and the universities will lose money, in which they will avoid at any cost
necessary. Student–athletes are treated like employees without having the benefits of an employee.

The Ethical Dilemma Of The Law Enforcement Code Of Ethics
Abstract
An ethical dilemma is an intricate situation that in most cases involves a mental conflict between
moral obligations, in which to observe one would result in disobeying another. "Tony, do not get
Johnny in trouble." The first order given to Tony Denardo by the sergeant is going to be the most
significant, life–changing order that was given; unfortunately for Johnny the order was ignored.
Throughout the scenario, there are instances where Tony takes Johnny under his wing and teaches
him by instilling his corrupt morals. Why would the sergeant have to order Tony not to get Johnny
in trouble? Within this paper, I will discuss and examine the ethical dilemmas Johnny is confronted
with and compare them to the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.
Keywords: corrupt morals, ethical dilemmas, repercussions, code of ethics
Ethical Dilemma The practice of moral conduct challenges the generally accepted standards. An
ethical dilemma is defined as a person has difficulty doing what is right, does not know the correct
course of action, or someone who finds the wrong choices alluring (Pollock, Ph.D. & Becker, J.D.,
1996). The essential value of studying and understanding ethical dilemmas is not that we have
conclusive guides to conduct ourselves morally. Rather, the values lie in becoming conscious of the
moral options that are available to us (Guttman, 2000).

Erving Goffman's Theory Of Dramaturgy
4. I am going to choose Erving Goffman's theory of dramaturgy in my social role as a parent.
Goffman argued that an individual has a set of roles that they are expected to perform in the
theatrical production, as how he metaphorically term it. This means that social life is perceived to be
a performance being acted to the world termed as a stage. So here's his idea about dramaturgy, he
stressed out that social beings are playing different roles in their daily lives, and performing
different behaviors in ways depending on their current situation. This can be further illustrated by
my social role as a parent. Being a parent is a challenging role, more challenging than how we see it
in the movies. I acted differently in front of my wife, in front of my children, and vary in front of
everybody else. This is what he implied that each of us has different self–presentations.
Furthermore, Goffman also argued how people behave strategically. For an instance, I appropriate to
act as a good role parent when I am with my sons. In front of them, I tend to avoid using vulgar and
some disturbing words that might cause them to act atrociously in the long run. This can be
depicted, as Goffman's ritual ideal, to my demeanor where I talk, dress, and only reflect desirable
qualities for my children to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

theorizing, primarily focusing on the concept of focused encounters. Focused encounters, as for how
Goffman defined it, occurs social beings effectively compromised with each other to sustain for a
focus interactive attention, such as having our discussions board on the course site. Although
Goffman stressed that focused interactions are more in a close face–to–face interaction of the
contributors, we can still consider the online class discussions that we have in this course since we

Lieutenant Jim Cross Integrity
A leader for a good or bad cause, is a person who can gather different individuals under one accord
and move towards the same objective. They are good at inspiring people. You may not always agree
with their perspective. However, leaders are good at bringing people together. All exceptional
leaders past and present possess integrity. It takes a strong individual to be a leader, but it takes an
even stronger person to be a leader with integrity. A part of being a leader is setting standards for
others to follow. Integrity is a characteristic that does not happen overnight. It is embedded in all
outstanding leaders. Knowing to do the right thing when no one is watching takes strong
determination. Talk show host Oprah Winfrey once described ... Show more content on

Martin Luther King Jr. did not live by the messages he preached so profoundly, he would not have
gone down in history as one of the greatest leaders of all times. Historical Martin Luther King Jr.

leaders should live a life that reflects their leadership. Martin Luther King Jr. did just that.
Additionally, "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien some may argue that First Lieutenant Jim
Cross was not a good leader, because one of his soldiers died at war on his watch. However, leaders
are not super heroes. They do not have super powers to predict the future. Jim Cross was a
remarkable leader. He put aside his personal situations for the lives of his soldiers. Even if that
included getting rid of someone he loved. All true leaders make sacrifices for the betterment of their
supports without hesitation. A leader should never knowingly put his or her followers in danger.
First Lieutenant Cross made a mistake as all humans do, but he never stopped being a leader he
knew how to be. He only got better with time. As a good leader, he second guessed himself because
he wanted the best for his troops. He cared about his troops. An inadequate leader would not care if
one of his soldiers died. After all, the soldier knew the possible outcome of the war. They knew the
risk involved with war. Cross was caring leader who carried the burdens of all his soldiers. "As a
first lieutenant and platoon leader, Jimmy Cross carried a compass, maps, code books, binoculars,
and a .45–caliber pistol that weighed 2.9 pounds fully loaded. He carried a strobe light and the
responsibility for the lives of all men" (O'Brien

Gender Roles : The Juvenile Justice System
Gender Roles in the Juvenile Justice System
What role does gender play at the various stages of the juvenile justice system? Gender plays an
enormous role in the juvenile justice system; both boys and girls have their fair share of run–ins
with the Juvenile Justice System, but now more so than ever, females crime rates have increased. In
some instances within the juvenile justice system, it may appear that boys and girls are comparable;
however there are differences, even though they are subtle. As opposed to their male counterpart,
female offenders have dissimilar needs, mainly due to unequal victimization that includes physical
and or sexual abuse as well as mental health complications (U.S. Department of Justice, 1998).
Criminal behavior by females has been commonly seen as a less important problem than male
criminal behavior, as women were historically less likely to commit criminal offenses, and
statistically made up of a small number of percentages. However, the rising rates have allowed for
new development into the growing numbers (National Criminal Justice Reference Service).
In the beginning of the growth in female delinquency, girls would appear in the Juvenile Justice
System; many court judges were unaware how to handle such a new trend and created more of a
problem when treated the girls with "kid gloves" (The Future of Children). Although that is no
longer a factor, it changed how girls were dealt with in the system, and it ultimately allowed
delinquency to

English language learners (ELLs) need instructional accommodations and modifications in order to
succeed in the classroom. In order to help ELLs develop their English language proficiency I would
recommend a variety of instructional strategies. Using visuals, gestures and hand motions are
extremely helpful for students with little to no English comprehension. Explicitly teaching
vocabulary, modeling the vocabulary and proper English, and using word walls are also beneficial to
ELLs. Another good way to model and reinforce English is by using audio recordings of books that
ELLs can follow along with, doing read–alouds, and providing opportunities to use and practice
English in small groups and think–pair–shares. I would also recommend given ... Show more

would invite the student's parents to visit the class to observe the class, or to share information about

parents I would make sure they were aware of the resources available to them such as, interpreters
and cultural organizations in the community. If the parent had limited English language I could send
parent letters home using the student's native language. In my classroom I would integrate the
student's cultural traditions into the classroom by recognizing and celebrate special events or
holidays from their culture. Saint Leo defines its core value of integrity as "[t]he commitment of

Dimitri Ivanovich Mendeleyev (1834– 1907) was a Russian alchemist born in Tobolsk, a town in the
western part of Siberia. He is well known for the greatest contribution he did to biology and
chemistry with the identification of elements properties and the creation of the periodic table, as
well as the deep study of catalysts, solutions and crude oil. He wrote the many creations he did in

Despite the brilliant person he was, his childhood wasn't easy. He was the youngest of more than
twelve children, which caused his family to cope with many crises and hunger for years. But the
worst came later, when Mendeleyev's father was working and suddenly became blind, so his mother
had to take the money home instead of him. She had luck and became the manager of a glass

none of the parents worked, so the family faced poverty. Nevertheless, Mendeleyev's mother knew

Admittedly, the Colorado based environmentalist and scientist has a vested interest: he works with
the people who developed the ultra–efficient but hydrogen–fueled Hypercar. There is an inherent
aesthetic appeal that makes hydrogen cars so attractive to the casual environmentalist: By means of
fuel cell conversion technology, they produce electricity to power the motor while exhausting only
water. But Hypercar notwithstanding, Lovins opines that the future of automotive energy lies within
hydrogen. He reasons that in addition to cleaner exhaust, hydrogen can be catalyzed from numerous
sources and can be transported far more safely than gasoline. However, some pundits are concerned
that adopting hydrogen energy as the sole strategy for the issues facing the automobile's future is
problematic because of the lengthy time frame in which they are projected to become ubiquitous.
Furthermore, the present infrastructure for the distribution of hydrogen fuel sources or the
production of hydrogen fuel cells is not only insufficient, but slow to develop. As such, fossil fuels
are presently the main source for hydrogen production, which means that hydrogen vehicles do not
successfully decouple the automobile from a fossil fuel economy. This is also widely inefficient
because it will generate four times the carbon dioxide emissions generated by gasoline efficient
automobiles. Furthermore, compressing hydrogen for the purposes of

Teaming Agreements Essay
Teaming "agreements" are contracts with other companies or projects to allow better efficiencies for
both contractors. Before entering a teaming arrangement, the benefits and drawbacks need to be
identified and considered. One benefit of teaming agreements is that they allow for smoother
allocation of resources, which directs, and successfully facilitates the resources in the management
plan (PMBOK Guide, 2013). Teaming agreements also limit the liabilities, obligations, and reduce
risks within the project (Toomey & Foley & Lardner LLP, 2013). Drawbacks of teaming agreements
include agreeing on terms during renegotiation and the risk of contract performance. Before forming

This poses the supposition of entering into an agreement with a competitor in order to maximize
your goods. In this strategy there is cooperation and competition simultaneously. It creates incentive
for the competition to cooperate with each other in order to assure mutual profitability. This
provides opportunities for businesses to be more competitive and increase the market. The
disadvantages lie in creating stronger competition and can lead to legal entanglements. In some
cases it is difficult to use this strategy because a company is so large. Apple is an example of how
hard it would be for a company to coopetition with because they already have a large part of the
market share and their intentions may be to delay the competition with legal woes. In any case, all
competitors need to limit the access the competition has to its processes, procedures, and knowledge

When assessing time, epidemiologists are interested in how the incidence and prevalence of disease
vary across the dimension of time both short and long term (Fleming, S. T., 2015, p.190). The short–
term and long–term incidences and prevalence could provide a better understanding of the risk
factors, etiology of disease, and means or method of transmission of STDs (Fleming, S. T., 2015,
p.190). Health Equity Health equity is when everyone has equal chance to be healthy regardless of
their background, this includes; race, ethnicity, income, gender, religion, sexual identity, and
disability (Sexually Transmitted Disease, 2017). Over the years there has been higher rates of STD's

dual eligible are younger people who are disabled. People who are dual eligible qualify for full
benefits through Medicaid. Even though the people who are dual eligible are a small share of
Medicaid enrollment, they account for numerous health care services and expenditures (Wilhide,

National Response Plan Howard L. Hayes Saint Leo University
National Response Plan Howard L. Hayes Saint Leo University Abstract Why is it necessary for our
country to have an effective emergency plan in place? Why does it matter how the country responds
to emergencies when every part of our country, including cities and states, face emergency situations
on a daily basis all over? Some are bad to worse, and some horrific to deadly. Well, this paper
explains the importance of the National Response Plan and why it is necessary for our country to
have it in place. It explores several articles that have been published to show the results on the
effectiveness and response of the National Response Plan. The National Response Framework,
previously called The National Response Plan, is a plan that the United States put in effect to
organize the way the country and the community handles attacks, disasters, as well as all events
looked at as an emergency. The Response Plan relays and describes all the information in order to
avoid catastrophic damages and to protect and save lives. The plan focuses on how the country as a
whole can work together to prepare for damaging events. Morover, the plan doesn 't always seem to
be effective as it is expected to be. Issues arose at the time it is most needed, which causes necessary
changes to take effect immediately. Sometimes the damage is already done and that could be due to
economic collapse, being unprepared, and failure to respond appropriately. The National Response

Recommendations: Establish a share drive or drop box to store all official documents concerning the
project. This will be helpful for all current and future team members working on similar projects.
Lessons Learned for Project milestones:
All milestones were realistically set and met! Budgeting and purchasing of the trees was pretty
much on target, the team worked with the vendor to stay within the budget and purchasing of the
trees, surveying the area digging and tree planting. Recommendations: Always set a realistic
schedule and goals and stick to it if possible. Utilize experts to give good advice and guidance.
Lessons Learned for Project milestones 2:
All milestones were met; but there was not a risk management plan established. Recommendations:
Plan a procedure of determining how to organize and implement risk management actions during the
course of the life cycle a project. This will help avoid any enormous setbacks.

It is more complex, when the subject of wills and end of life desires arise. In this paper, I will be discussing ethical situations that arise when dealing with this specific problem. • 3. The Unique Adventures Of A Nursing Major The Unique Adventures of a Nursing Major "Bound by paperwork, short on hands, sleep and energy... nurses are rarely short on caring." – Sharon Hudacek, Nurse Theory Planning A Future Nursing students have been going to school their entire lives just like anyone else getting an education and trying to better themselves as students. We do this not only for those who support us such as our parents but for ourselves. We have been asked this same question from the second we got our first fire truck, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Even as young children we are beginning to make decisions and choices based off the things that make us happy. But realistically at such an adolescent age we are making our choice based on the color we enjoy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Participating in extracurricular activities is an expectation but with such little free time nursing students are unable to join the clubs that they would like to be a part of and play sports. Another way that nursing students are affected is how much harder they must study and hit the books in many ways to get the information to stick in their brains. Katie a nursing student here at our University, states, "There are many nights that I am up at 3 am and I am studying as I fall asleep over my laptop". Most students simply take normal classes and aren't required to go to labs that can sometimes feel as if they will never end because they can take so long. But nursing students are required to take a good number of classes that involve labs which is almost like two classes in one. This is not even including the several shadowing/ internship hours that are required to get into some of the more prestigious Universities. Katie Thielen along with most other nursing students spent their spring breaks here St. Ambrose University because they must get certified so that they can work in a hospital/ retirement home and get paid for their time. Stress = Success In hopes of limiting or minimizing stress levels, Katie will be taking summer courses. These courses are not required to be taken over the summer, but they are highly advised because students are less overwhelmed when they seek to take a few classes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Are Human Rights? Essay The rights you have simply because you are human Every single human being on this planet has rights (What Are Human Rights, n.d). These rights are given to us through birth, and the day I was asked, what my human rights were, I found myself speechless. I did not know how to answer the question, which at the time sounded so easy. I forgot about the question that had me so puzzled, and just brushed it off, ironically six month later I get an assignment on the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. After reading this historic document, I realized how important human rights are. I believe most people take human rights for granted, we know they exist, but we don't even know what they are and what they entail. This made me think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After World War II, the document called "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights" with the thirty rights (articles) to which all people are authorized to have(UDHR, 1948). The idea of "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights" was to describe in detail the rights that all people were entitled to in the world, in hopes to preventing anymore wars like the two world wars, which resulted in millions of people's deaths and destruction of many countries(UDHR, 1948). The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was accepted around the world as the document which defined the thirty rights that all people where entitled to, no matter where you were from, lived, born or did(UDHR, 1948). It seems as if many organizations have in some way adapted to the principles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this is evident at "Saint Leo University". Saint Leo University has incorporated six core values into the heart of the Universities community. These core values are Excellence, Community, Respect, Personal Development, Responsible Stewardship, and Integrity(Saint Leo University, n.d). While evaluating these core values, I thought to myself, what do any of these values have to do with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights? While I'm sure this can be a debatable subject, I feel that two out of the six ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Joined the military in 1987 while serving my country I earned promotions, awards, recognition, etc. but there was still one thing missing which was education. • 6. Observational And Social Learning Theory Essay Critical Thinking Activity #1: Observational/Social Learning Theory The purpose of this paper is to discuss the validity of the Observational/Social Learning Theory. I will investigate what the observational/social learning theory is and its use in an everyday classroom environment. I will also relate this learning theory to any relevant Saint Leo core values. What is the observational/social learning theory? The observational learning theory, sometimes called the social learning theory, states that an individual can learn by observing another person's (i.e. model) behavior or actions. "An observer's behavior can be affected by the positive or negative consequences–called vicarious reinforcement or vicarious punishment– of a model's behavior" (Funderstanding.com, 2011). In order for observational learning to occur, four process must take place: attention, retention, production and motivation. The observer must pay attention to the model's behavior (attention); retain the behavior in memory (retention); be able to produce the behavior them self (production); and have a reason to want to copy the model's behavior (motivation). The evidence of the validity of the observational/social learning theory can be found in the research of Albert Bandura. Albert Bandura conducted a series of experiments known as the "Bobo doll" studies. In these experiments, he was able to show that children's behavior was changed by watching how others acted toward the bobo doll. After watching a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The First Stop On My Cpr Tour Crystal City Underground The first stop on my CPR tour was the Crystal City Underground. This awesome cave sits in the heart Crystal City, which is located about 30 miles south of St Louis, MO. Carved into the Mississippi river bluff this cavern was once an active sand mine serving a local glass plant, Pittsburgh Plate Glass factory, with materials for almost a century. In the 1980's the plant and the mine were closed, allowing water that was pumped out for decades to begin to flood portions of the cave. The recent owners of this cave decided to turn the property into a tourist attraction. They built up area's for children to explore, adults to play games, a stage for bands to play, a sitting area with large TV's for sports and other event enjoyment, and barges to take tours on while exploring the depths of vastness this cave has to offer. On the day of my arrival I had the pleasure of experiencing a dark path being well lit with over 400 carved pumpkins along what was pleasantly titled the Great Pumpkin Walk. As I ventured along I could see multiple paths that led to deeper parts of the cavern. Many of these paths were blocked off for what I am assuming were safety reasons. After walking what seemed to be a half mile I arrived at the tour barge. Loaded with 8 passengers our tour guide, Steve, took us deep into the cave and explained its history while showing us fascinating things. I witnessed my first close up experience with cave bats, got to see permanent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Turns out I really liked taking online math and was able to teach myself all of the math. I ended up getting a ninety–five percent in that class! I was also able to relearn many of the skills that I had once misunderstood in my first Geometry class. I was so happy and felt extremely accomplished, I also decided to study harder in my other classes and got straight A's. Hard work does pay off! My semester GPA ended up being a 4.5. I was also able to take dual enrollment classes during my junior year which was very enjoyable because the class was in English which is one of my favorite subjects along with my Early Childhood Education class. although if I didn't decide to start becoming more independent and taking matters into my own hands none of those accomplishments ... Today, when most people use the term hero, they are using it to refer to someone with courage or honesty. There are several different examples in society that people have been labeled as a hero. Many see Martin Luther King as a hero for what he did for the African American community, Chris Kyle because of his heroic actions and bravery in combat and Neil Armstrong for his dedication to our great nation. For me, a hero is someone who is willing to do the right thing without regards to the consequences. Everyone listed above risked their lives for something bigger than themselves. That's exactly what I observed in the story Bodega Dreams. The story is about a teacher who treats his students with disrespect and with no cares of how their lives end up. Mr. Blessington is considered the villain in this story. He is the English teacher who tells his students that the boys will end up in jail and that all the girls were going to end up hooking. According to my standards this individual has no business in the school district. The hero of the story belongs to Mr. Tapia, the Science teacher at Julia de Burgos Junior High. This teacher stood up for his students. He cared for them in a way that no other teacher there did. That is why I chose him as the hero. He stood for something without regards to the consequences. Email: Sheila.capers@email.saintleo.edu. Abstract There was a time when one never heard about the police shooting a suspect. Now it seems as if every day there a new story on the news of police shootings and the ensuing chaos. In the middle of all of this there runs a question. Do the police tend to be quicker on the trigger when it is a black suspect they are chasing? What do the numbers and research say on the matter? Despite the regular reports in the news about police shootings in recent times, the overall picture does not show an excessive problem. In over 14 million arrests performed, only 3,600 people are shot each year, with only 1,000 being fatal.. This number seems to be huge, but when one considers that there are an estimated half a million police officers in the U.S. this number becomes rather insignificant by statistical standards. This does not eliminate the need to investigate such instances of the utilization of deadly force. It cannot be considered capital punishment. In essence the officer becomes judge, jury, and executioner. It takes away the suspects right to a fair trial by their peers. There is another similarity between police use of deadly force and capital punishment. There is a marked issue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Student Dismissal Letter To the Associate Director of Undergraduate Student Advising, I am writing this letter to address the email I received that has denied my admission into Saint Leo University. My hope in writing this is to have that decision overturned so I can enter this exceptional institution and complete the goals I have set for myself in higher education. As noted in the denial letter my cumulative GPA from prior education was less than a 2.0 average, for which there is no excuse. Poor performance in a collegiate environment is something that is completely unacceptable, and I would appreciate the chance to show how I plan to remedy this situation and complete my scholastic objectives at the highest level. When fresh out of high school at 18 years of age, I decided to enroll in the local community college to begin my education. I made this decision even though I had a scholarship offer to play in the band at Troy State University. Unfortunately, there was a desire to stay in the local area with the idea that I could still hang around with an unfortunate group of friends who had decided college was not for them. • 12. The Death Penalty and the Innocent Essay In the United States, many crimes are considered to be punishable by a life sentence or a sentence of a few years. However, many crimes have earned people capital punishment, also known as the death penalty. The first known death penalty was acknowledge by a legal document known as the Code of Hummarubi. In this document, written in the 1700s, it is mentioned that twenty–five crimes were punished by death. The crimes included being unfaithful to one's partner and even helping slaves escape (Guernsey, 2009). By 1846, the state of Michigan became one of the first US states to abolish the death penalty for all committed crimes. Michigan now replaces the death penalty with life imprisonment (Bohm, 2007). The next flow is the pancuronium bromide, which paralyzes the victim's entire muscle system, which stops the heart from beating. In the end, the flow of potassium chloride stops the heart. Since 1976, 1,198 executions have been made by lethal injection, and 34 states authorize this method (Death Penalty Information, 2014). Electrocution was first practiced in New York City by the use of an electric chair. The person is strapped to a chair with belts across his chest, legs, and arms and a metal skullcap–shaped is then attached to the forehead. It will run between 500 and 2000 volts, which can take about 30 seconds for the inmate to lose his life (Death Penalty Information, 2014). Another use of execution was the use of the gas chamber during the 1920s. Gee Jon was the first prisoner on which the gas chamber was used. The officers of the prison, in Nevada, pumped gas into his cell while he was sleeping. Firing Squad is a method of execution that is mainly practiced in the state of Utah. This was done by having the prisoner stand 20 feet away from the guards, and the five of the guards would aim with .30 caliber rifles and shoot at the prisoner's heart. The prisoner would then die as a result of blood loss. The last practice of execution that was done until the 1890s was hanging. This was a primary form of execution used in the United States. The meeting I attended consisted of about forty–three people, both men and women. The only type of meeting I had ever been to in my life was either church related or business related. Once my parents denied signing any of my financial aid forms for school, all of my optimism for that dream went downhill. One thing that has always been consistent is my love for fighting for what is right for the people. My passion for the law and people aided my decision to join the military. Upon my retirement from the military, I was compelled to enroll in the Criminal Justice program at Saint Leo University. An ethical dilemma is defined as a person has difficulty doing what is right, does not know the correct course of action, or someone who finds the wrong choices alluring (Pollock, Ph.D. & Becker, J.D., 1996). The essential value of studying and understanding ethical dilemmas is not that we have conclusive guides to conduct ourselves morally. • 23. Erving Goffman's Theory Of Dramaturgy 4. I am going to choose Erving Goffman's theory of dramaturgy in my social role as a parent. Goffman argued that an individual has a set of roles that they are expected to perform in the theatrical production, as how he metaphorically term it. This means that social life is perceived to be a performance being acted to the world termed as a stage. So here's his idea about dramaturgy, he stressed out that social beings are playing different roles in their daily lives, and performing different behaviors in ways depending on their current situation. This can be further illustrated by my social role as a parent. Being a parent is a challenging role, more challenging than how we see it in the movies. I acted differently in front of my wife, in front of my children, and vary in front of everybody else. This is what he implied that each of us has different self–presentations. Furthermore, Goffman also argued how people behave strategically. For an instance, I appropriate to act as a good role parent when I am with my sons. In front of them, I tend to avoid using vulgar and some disturbing words that might cause them to act atrociously in the long run. • 25. Gender Roles : The Juvenile Justice System Gender Roles in the Juvenile Justice System What role does gender play at the various stages of the juvenile justice system? Gender plays an enormous role in the juvenile justice system; both boys and girls have their fair share of run–ins with the Juvenile Justice System, but now more so than ever, females crime rates have increased. In some instances within the juvenile justice system, it may appear that boys and girls are comparable; however there are differences, even though they are subtle. As opposed to their male counterpart, female offenders have dissimilar needs, mainly due to unequal victimization that includes physical and or sexual abuse as well as mental health complications (U.S. Department of Justice, 1998). Criminal behavior by females has been commonly seen as a less important problem than male criminal behavior, as women were historically less likely to commit criminal offenses, and statistically made up of a small number of percentages. However, the rising rates have allowed for new development into the growing numbers (National Criminal Justice Reference Service). In the beginning of the growth in female delinquency, girls would appear in the Juvenile Justice System; many court judges were unaware how to handle such a new trend and created more of a problem when treated the girls with "kid gloves" (The Future of Children). There is an inherent aesthetic appeal that makes hydrogen cars so attractive to the casual environmentalist: By means of fuel cell conversion technology, they produce electricity to power the motor while exhausting only water. But Hypercar notwithstanding, Lovins opines that the future of automotive energy lies within hydrogen. He reasons that in addition to cleaner exhaust, hydrogen can be catalyzed from numerous sources and can be transported far more safely than gasoline. However, some pundits are concerned that adopting hydrogen energy as the sole strategy for the issues facing the automobile's future is problematic because of the lengthy time frame in which they are projected to become ubiquitous. Furthermore, the present infrastructure for the distribution of hydrogen fuel sources or the production of hydrogen fuel cells is not only insufficient, but slow to develop. As such, fossil fuels are presently the main source for hydrogen production, which means that hydrogen vehicles do not successfully decouple the automobile from a fossil fuel economy. This is also widely inefficient because it will generate four times the carbon dioxide emissions generated by gasoline efficient automobiles. Furthermore, compressing hydrogen for the purposes of ... One benefit of teaming agreements is that they allow for smoother allocation of resources, which directs, and successfully facilitates the resources in the management plan (PMBOK Guide, 2013). Teaming agreements also limit the liabilities, obligations, and reduce risks within the project (Toomey & Foley & Lardner LLP, 2013). In some cases it is difficult to use this strategy because a company is so large. Apple is an example of how hard it would be for a company to coopetition with because they already have a large part of the market share and their intentions may be to delay the competition with legal woes.
