The Eyes Of Feminism By Simone De Beauvoir
Of the first person to attempt to view history through the eyes of feminism, Simone de Beauvoir
asserts that man is the great subject and woman is the other – man is seen as essential, woman is not.
Her primary argument is that men fundamentally oppress women by characterizing them as the
'other'. The author also believes that women's inferiority in society is not a result of natural, sexual
differences but rather of differences in the societal development of men and women. She argues that
women are not born passive; rather, "kept in a situation of inferiority", one becomes used to the fact
that she "is inferior" (xxiv).
Sex is a fixed physiological difference between males and females, usually assigned at birth.
Gender, on the other hand, refers to the differences of a man and a woman determined by a
particular culture and society that the individual belongs to. Socially constructed responsibilities,
behaviors, and attributes for men and women are considered gender roles. According to Joan W.
Scott, gender is "used to designate social relations between the sexes" (Joan Scott 1056). While
aspects of biological sex are similar across different countries and cultures, aspects of gender and
how ominously gender roles are emphasized may be different. In these manners, gender inequality
refers to the unfair treatment and discrimination against individuals based on their gender and the
imbalance between the sexes. Gender inequality exists because it remains beneficial to a

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence
Domestic violence has been and will always be an unacceptable, global contention unless the church
and government work together to create a life–giving environment for which our nation can reside.
Domestic violence can include abusive behavior, psychological and emotional misconduct, and the
issue of control. The United States Government can only do so much before the Church has to step
in and provide for the victims of domestic violence. The results of our government's lack of
initiative about domestic violence incorporate varying forms of abuse. The three most frequent
forms of domestic violence include human trafficking, intimate partner abuse, and child abuse.
Between 800,000 and four million people across the globe have been affected by human trafficking,
a thirty–two billion dollar industry. Severe physical spousal abuse affects one in five women and
one in seven men. When a child is domestically abused, they are more likely to experience long and
short term psychological problems such as PTSD. Children who undergo this injustice are six times
more likely to commit suicide and fifty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caitlin Mahserjian, a Law Clerk in the New York City Law Department, argues her point that the
government's "absence of legislation, insufficient legislation, and failure to enforce existing
legislation results in victims being left unprotected at the hands of their government" (1). Even
though the government has organizations available for women and children who have been affected
by domestic violence such as BWJP and The Center of Domestic Violence, records show that most
victims do not receive sufficient treatment. The United States' Constitution has laws regarding
domestic violence; however, statistics show that the percentage of women in the US being held
captive by this crime is the same in other third world countries that do not have these laws in place.

Domestic Violence is a problem sweeping the nation. This problem can affect anyone from
anywhere but is generally acting out upon children and adult women in abusive relationships.
Domestic violence is emotionally and physically scarring for anyone involved, and as a result could
take multiple intervention meetings to begin to understand the issue, alleviate the associated
problems, and to assist the victim in getting back on his or her feet. The consequences of abuse
include anxiety, depression, post–traumatic stress disorder and self–harm. Children may begin to act
differently to their usual behavior – withdrawal is very common, as is self–harming (Khan, 2012).
There are two ways that people can consider interventions for victims of ... Show more content on

The three most common ways to use persuasion to curb domestic violence is to educate, have
nonverbal signals, and to speak out. Educating people will teach people how to deal with anger in a
passive way before turning into an abusive case. Different kinds of people can be shown and given
education on the dangers and signs of domestic violence and can use their knowledge of the issue to
put a stop to it. Nonverbal signals are a good way for people in relationships with anger problems to
control that anger. If there is a nonverbal signal in place, whoever is angry can take the time to walk
away and clear their head before turning to violence during an argument. Last, speaking out is one
of the best ways to put a stop to domestic violence. Calling the authorities when he or she see or
hear something can save someone's life. Take the necessary steps when something first happens
rather than later, when it gets out of hand. Domestic violence is a crime, and there are almost always
victims that come out of it damaged. Persuading people to do these things could very well curb
domestic violence and help save a life. (2) Social psychology can help to end domestic violence in
many ways. Social Psychology deals with interactions between people. So, in theory, social
psychology could help psychologists study the relationship from parent to abuser, and the

Domestic Violence
The deepest problem with domestic violence is that some cultures do not believe there is such a
thing. Domestic violence can be perpetrated in many ways such as sexual abuse, psychological
abuse, social abuse, economic abuse and spiritual abuse. Abusers who commit domestic violence do
so to control their victim, and maintain that control by threatening the victim's safety and/or that of
people they love. Punishment for cases of domestic violence should be taken into consideration.
However, most governments do not consider the cultural background of couples when deciding
whether to prosecute reported cases of domestic violence. Furthermore, ... Show more content on

It is most common in Louisiana because it's the most disruptive state of violence. Among female
victims of contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner, an
estimated 71.1% first experienced these or other forms of intimate partner violence before age 25
years, with an estimated 23.2% having first experienced this before age 18 years. (Matthew J.
Breiding) Among male victims of contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an
intimate partner, an estimated 58.2% first experienced these or other forms of intimate partner
violence before age 25 years, with an estimated 14.1% having first experienced this before age 18

and proportion of female and male U.S. adults have experienced sexual violence, stalking, or
intimate partner violence during their lifetimes or in the 12 months preceding the 2011 survey.
Because of the broad range of short– and long–term consequences associated with these forms of
violence, the public health burden of sexual violence, stalking, and intimate partner violence is
substantial. Despite frequent depictions in the media of sexual violence and stalking perpetrated by
strangers (15,16), strangers were reported as the perpetrator by less than one–fourth of stalking
victims and by less than one–fourth of victims of each form of sexual violence except noncontact
unwanted sexual experience mentions Breiding

Domestic Violence Affects Children 's Development
Introduction
Thesis: Domestic violence can negatively affect children 's development. (make more persuasive)
Children all around the world witness domestic violence. Whether it 's between parents, partners or
even the elder. Does the parents, partners, or elder realize the affects that happen to their children?
Witnessing domestic violence, children become fearful and anxious. They become this way because
they never know when the next event may happen, fearing for themselves, mom or dad, and
siblings. Also becoming worthless and powerless, feeling the need to keep their family a secret
and/or not being able to talk to their own family about the abuse. Sometimes they feel like they are
the reason why there is domestic violence in their home. If they look fine to you or others in the
world that don't know about their family, they truly may not be fine at all inside. As reading it doesn
't seem that the children are being hit in any of the domestic violence, but the parent that is being hit
from their partner fear for the child/children. Domestic violence, can negatively affect children 's
development. (try to make more persuasive)

(1) Attention Getting Device: According to an article titled "Don't Believe in the War On Women?
Would a Body Count Change Your Mind?", since September 11, 2001 more American women were
killed by an intimate partner than all of the victims of 9/11 and all of the American military fatalities
in Iraq and Afghanistan combined (Gidfar, 2012). One woman is fatally shot by a spouse, ex–spouse
or dating partner every 14 hours, states Wright (2016) from the U.S. Department of Defense, and
these are just the statistics for women, but domestic violence happens to men, as well, but less often.
(2) Thesis Statement: Everyone in this room has a voice. We can take a stand and use our voice to
educate ourselves and others on healthy relationships and decrease the number of women and men
who are victims of domestic violence.
(3) Justification: "It does not just happen to "other people" or "certain kinds of people" (Day, 2016).
It can happen to our sisters. It can happen to our brothers. It can happen to our friends. It can happen
to our peers. It can happen to people we love (Repetition). Nearly three–fourths of Americans know

Domestic Violence Persuasive Speech
On behalf of Christians, I am here today to represent the values, attitudes and beliefs of Christianity
on the topic of domestic violence. Unfortunately, domestic violence is a widespread issue that is
common throughout the households of not just Australia but the rest of the world. Throughout
biblical scripture it is evident that domestic violence starkly opposes God's plan for families and this
is particularly seen in Genesis 1 and 2 which depict marriage as a one–flesh, helping relationship
and Ephesians 5:21 talks about mutual submission. (Got Questions Ministries, n.d.). Furthermore,
Verses 25–33 talk about a husband's self–sacrificial love for his wife which is further supported by
First Peter 3:1–7 as it gives similar instructions (Got Questions Ministries, n.d.). Additionally, First
Corinthian 7:4 states "The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the article Julia draws a causal link between Christian views on marriage and domestic
violence in which she blames Christians practice and beliefs for this social evil. Initially, it seems
she has a watertight case as she brings to our attention pastors who supposedly promote and
condone abuse in the line "Reverend Peter Catt... says: "I have heard pastors...tell people...that they
have to stay in situations of abuse because they are under the headship of the male." However, Julia
has only found church leaders who make claims about situations they have heard with no details or
names. Even the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Glenn Davies, who Julia stresses "is known for its
emphasis on headship", says that "headship is not domination" and "if a woman's life is in danger
she should leave, even though that would mean 'disobeying her husband'". This is evidence hardly
supports Julia's argument about endorsement of male dominance and domestic violence by the

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence
Today, at this very moment, we are living in a world plagued with domestic violence. We are living
in a world in which people are scared of being physically, sexually or emotionally abused by
someone they love; their partner, their parent or any other member of their family. This is one of the
most aggressive, personal forms of violence and sadly, it's also one of the most common. Australians
are more likely to be abused or even killed by someone known to them, than anyone else. We are
most likely to be hurt by those we love. We are more likely to be abused in our own homes, the
place that should act as a haven, the one place we should feel safe and loved, than anywhere else.
This war happening within our homes, is a war that is being fought silently. We, as Australians, have
so much further to go on the epidemic of domestic violence, and we have so much more to do if we
ever dream of eliminating it. Perhaps you are thinking that this is simply a craze, a problem that has
been exaggerated and amplified by the media, a problem that will eventually die out when the
spotlight is taken off it. In all honesty, this isn't a completely illogical conclusion to reach, for so
long this war on domestic violence has been swept under the rug; hidden from judgemental eyes.
Sadly, even though this fight has been hidden, it has been evident in this "lucky country" for
generations. In 1996, 7.1% of women in Australia, or 490,400 individuals, had experienced some

Gender Profiling : Domestic Violence

Don't talk with your hands, silence hides violence : Domestic violence happens to men and women
"Don't touch me" she said when he pushed her . "I'm going to die from stress" she felt helpless, until
one night she called the police after being yelled at and pushed by the father of her baby. They came
immediately, we were scared of what he would do. They got our statement and took us to the
magistrate to file for a restraining order. We didn't want it to happen again, no one wants to go
through this. Even though we had a restraining order it didn't help, he came back and broke down
the door in force to come for my mother. She was frightened and didn't know what to do, she
became more cautious than usual. Domestic violence is a form of abuse, it takes over your life and
self worth.
Domestic violence should be considered for both parties because if a man can do it a women can do
it. Gender profiling is a substantial problem with domestic violence and how the different genders
are dealt with." Gender profiling is a big one because everyone automatically thinks men are the
abusers. "Domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of race, gender, religion, or sexual
orientation" (Domestic Violence 1). No matter what you are and how you look it's still domestic
violence. The percentage of 4% of men and 8.2% of women were estimated to have experienced
domestic abuse in 2014/2015. Gender profiling leads to race religion and sexual orientation.

The abuser sometimes uses this tactic as a punishment. "Financial abuse is the use or misuse,
without the partner's freely given consent, of the financial or other monetary resources of the partner
or of the partnership." (Types of Domestic Abuse). The abuser will keep the victim(s) away from
their jobs, which will cause them to lose money and eventually get fired. The abuser will also create
conflict with the victim's coworkers. They will also take the victim's credit cards and will also take
control of their bank account(s) and control their spending. "Identity abuse is using personal
characteristics to demean, manipulate and control the partner...tactics overlap with other forms of
abuse, particularly emotional abuse...comprised of the social "isms", including racism, sexism,
ageism, able–ism, beauty–ism, as well as homophobia." (Type of Domestic Abuse). The abuser will

Problem, Solution and Barriers Paper
Problem
Social workers have explained the situation an abused victim of family violence is in as high cost
and low reward (Griffin, 2015). This is because despite feeling anguish the individual is trapped in
the plight because the fear of being alone in the world is a worse alternative (Griffin, 2015).
Individuals in such situations do not depart until an outside alternative promises them a better life
(Griffin, 2015).
The problem I am addressing in my paper is the unawareness of domestic abuse and the prevalence
of intimate partner violence. Many people may not comprehend the existence of domestic abuse
because it is seldom spoken of but the problem exists in many forms nonetheless. The following are
statistics meaningful in expressing the existence and magnitude of domestic abuse in Ohio.
According to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there were 678,810 child cases of
maltreatment; among which 78% experienced neglect, 18% experienced physical abuse, 9%
experienced sexual abuse and 11% experienced another form of maltreatment in 2012 (Honor,
2015). The National Network to End Violence conducted a single day report on September 16, that
said there were 2,047 adult and children victims of domestic abuse served in Ohio 2015

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence
Domestic violence: a taboo issue in our society, where the discussion is shut down by fear of
instability or vulnerability. A crime, hidden from plain view, behind closed doors, that harms up to
half a million innocent individuals every year. Someone is experiencing some form of domestic
violence as we speak as for every 15 seconds there is a woman beaten around the world, and for
every hour as many as 115 children are abused. Domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, is a
violation of human rights. It involves violent, abusive or intimidating behaviour carried out by an
adult against a partner or former partner to control and dominate that person. Violence of any form
should not be accepted in our modern society it nurtures fear and hatred, and it should not be locked
away as an allowable social norm. We should be better than that.
Violence affects a healthy family's relationship, state of mind and well–being, in other words, it's
normal functions. Because of violence, children are forced to endure and cope with mental, physical
and emotional trauma leading to a display of impacts on health, development, and wellbeing. The
effects build up over time and can impact on every aspect of their life. How many children and
innocent lives must suffer from something unnecessary? Imagine walking into a home late at night
to find a child hiding in a corner, with a bloody face and cuts all around their body saying they were
self–inflicted or making up other silly excuses like falling down the stairs out of extreme fear. Up to
75% of all acts of domestic violence occurs between the ages 18–24. No child should ever see
domestic violence as normal because the moment that happens a future perpetrator has been born.
We need to take a stand and refuse to let domestic violence become something we ignore.
According to ourwatch.org, 90% of children from violent homes witness their fathers beating their
mothers, in that same category, 63% of all boys aged 11–22 commit crimes and kill the man who
abuses their mother. Statistics from Australian bureau of statistics show that abused children or
children living in violent homes are arrested four times more often than non–abused or less violent
families. Child victims of

Making An Initial Visit After Receiving A Referral Within...
Summary The aim of this session was to introduce us to the process of making an initial visit after
receiving a referral within the role of a social worker. This was done with a small group exercise
involving role play. We were placed into groups of four and once in our groups we had to divide
ourselves into roles. There were three roles consisting of Service user, Social worker and observer.
We were then taken to one side with people from other groups whom had be given the same role as
ourselves and briefed on what it was we had to do. I was given the role of social worker, therefore i
was told that I had to plan and undertake an initial visit and given the receipt of a referral. The
referral consisted of concerns regarding a young boy, Max aged 2. The referral was made by the
child's nursery. They had concerns about his behavior and presentation, for example, Max is often
very tired, wears the same clothes for a number of consecutive days, is greedy when given food and
aggressive towards his peers. Alongside this, questions regarding his mother, sally, were also raised.
When staff at the nursery had spoken to her she seemed to show littler concern regarding her son's
behavior, she often smells strongly of alcohol and bruises have been seen on her face. It was
therefore my responsibility to take this information from this receipt of referral on board before then
undertaking my role within the role play of a social worker making an initial visit. Initial Response

Domestic Violence Among Black And Blue
"Why is it So Hard to See Black and Blue"? According to the Salvation Army and Care Haven, it is
"Hard to See Black and Blue" on a White upper–class woman because viewers focus on her gold
and white dress, rather than on the bruises that cover her body. The sponsors of the public service
announcement put a gold and white dress on a battered woman to incorporate a popular
phenomenon with something serious: domestic violence. Within the last decade, there has been an
increase in reported incidents of domestic violence among upper–class renowned Americans males.
Martha Ross, a reporter, interviewed a few of these men. All of them blamed their actions on
"accidents" or the woman ("Charlie Sheen?"). Despite these men's excuses, they still gain support;
instead of taking the abuser's side people need to protect women. One group that understands the
need to protect women from these types of men is the Salvation Army; they have a division called
CareHaven that specializes in sheltering women and their children who have experienced domestic
abuse (Salvation Army's CareHaven). In the advertisement on the previous page, CareHaven appeals
to viewers' sense of logic and emotion by using a woman, text, and an illusion to persuade people to
report and, thus, stop abuse against women.

to lessen violence against women. She is Caucasian, blonde, well–dressed in a gold and white

Crime : Are We Becoming Too Sensitive?
Crimes; Are we becoming too Sensitive? As an ever growing nation many of our cultures are
expanding to fit in with the new trends. However, with these new trends are we becoming too
sensitive to different matters such as what we consider to be a crime or violent? According to Janne
Kivivuori's article Understanding Trends in Personal Violence: Does Cultural Sensitivity Matter he
discusses how we, as a society, have become more sensitive to what is defined as being violent or a
criminal act. In one of his opening lines he quoted Emile Durkheim as saying that as the crime rates
decrease people adjust their views to make room for alternative crimes; He believes that society
needs a certain amount of crime in order to remain balanced. In Kivivuori's article he explains how
different nations react to crimes such as domestic abuse, and public disorder, as well as how likely
someone is to report propensity; then finally how they relate to the different cultural changes.
Although it proved difficult to find anything about this author he is a research director at the
Institute of Criminology and Legal Policies; he is a sociologist, and criminologist as well as being

ONE STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE:
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation of
humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a great threat endangering the lives of thousands of
women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We live
in a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn't be let out.
We know it's happening, and even hear or see the events. But who's taking action?
I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic? Sadly
enough, people look at this endless crime as just a figure or percentage, we're shocked at first but
nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the struggle,
and a step to save our nation.
And yes, I'm not anyone special, I don't study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence
myself. But I'm here to tell a story. I'm here to make a change. And I'm here to encourage all of you
to do the same.
I'm going to share an experience I had. Something that I've regretted and hated myself for since,
knowing that help could've been sought earlier. A few years back, I was catching up with a family
member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened but she just
brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the bruises became
worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she still seemed the happy go–lucky girl I knew and
loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you, sometimes the people who seem
happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the case. Flashforward a few months,
and her partner was being trialled and charged under the case of domestic abuse.
Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself.
Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this day, I still can't even begin the fathom how
anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant
other and act like everything is fine. And to the victims who have to live

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence Programs
Domestic violence can be found everywhere in classrooms, social work and neighborhoods affecting
the people in it. In some cases it can cause a long term depression or potentially cause suicide which
is not a topic to be joking about, so the government creates programs to help the needed in recovery
and thus come the question that has wandered us all "Are these programs having their intended
effect? Are they working to curb domestic violence?" As surprising as it sounds there is a lot of
argument on these programs not working, and do not show promising results on the recovery of
patients. When reading reports on patients with statements on domestic violence program failures
and talks about abuse in them thus, comes the development of the matter that domestic violence
helping programs are not effective in recovering patients. Abuse seems to be the most reported issue
in the programs, but what effects do they have on their patient's? Abuse can come in different forms
for example in "Domestic Violence Programs Are Ineffective and Sometimes Harmful," the article
clarifies that "domestic violence treatment standards often discourage family therapy. In 30 states
that have implemented standards for offender treatment programs, 42% of those states prohibit
couples counseling." When a patient is in need of help the best help comes from their friends or
family members, not meeting those needs is considered abuse. Yet these programs deny any
possibilities that there are any type of

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence
Why is love so profoundly fascinating and significant a theme for us? Maybe because it makes
people act out and cause their significant other emotional and/or physical pain.
But why do the ones getting hurt by this form of love stay? It's because the love they have for their
significant other (or others involved) is what makes them want to stay. Simply, we find Domestic
Violence such a fascinating form of love because the love that the victim feels, makes them stay in
such horrible situations and the actions of the abuser draw in an interest into this unique
manifestation of love.
There are many reason why people would stay in a domestic violence relationship– be it fear,
dependency, cultural/religious beliefs or even just love for the abusive partner. However, on average,
at least one woman dies a week in Australia due to domestic violence
(www.domesticviolence.com.au).
Shouldn't this be a sign to people in a domestic violence relationship?
On many accounts, the victim of a domestic violence relationship believes that they have done
something to deserve the violence used against them, or they believe that they can help/change the
abuser. The love that they hold for the person hurting them makes them want to stay and help them,
even if it means risking their own safety.

Domestic Violence occurs more often than humans think."More than 1 in 3 women have
experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime". In the
past it was aloud in many counties. Now, it is handled by the law; the abuser will be punished.
People never think they could be a victim. Most people look passed the signs. It is about so much
more than getting angry at someone. Our partners are more common to hurt them and they are to
scared to fight for themselves most of the time. Sadly, it can be about race, religion, age, sexualalty,
and some much more. The abuser may want a challenge or want someone easier to hurt. When
victims are abused, they are damaged by domestic violence, and they need to seek help. There is
safety plans and people that will help the victims. Domestic violence is a massive problem, and it
has vast effects.
First of all, Everyone needs to know what domestic violence is because it happens to more people
than realized. Domestic violence is dangerous to deal with but most do it alone. No person deserves
the pain it causes. Physical pain is probably the most common thing in domestic violence. Physical
violence would be hitting, kicking, rape, choking, and dragging; any touching of the victim is
thought of physical violence because it can be seen. The bruises and the cuts start small and than
become an emergency room visits. Hopefully, by then the victims realizes to leave. Than sometimes

In New York today, there are many social issues occurring. Racism, discrimination against religions,
the LGBTQ community, and more. A major issue we have in this state, that not many people

between two people in a relationship. Domestic violence is a relevant social issue occurring in New
York, but my community and I have ways to put it to an end. Being a woman, I am more endangered
of domestic violence than anyone else, a way that I can help stop domestic violence is saying

A significant way that I can help put an end to domestic violence, is by doing something when I see
the problem occur. In the past, I have seen domestic violence happen, but I said nothing. As a
community, we can stop domestic violence by spreading the word and educating people about the
issue. Looking in the future, I see change happening. Although there are some faults as to why
domestic violence can not be stopped, I believe it is possible if we work together as a whole.
In chapter 6: considering my role in the world, I used the element of information, and the standard

Another pair that I used in my essay, was point of view and accuracy. I used this pair in my

abuser who has their own significant reasons for initially doing what they do. This pair goes well

Audrey Mullender's Rethinking Domestic Violence
A common excuse among men who abuse women is "I had no control over myself." In Audrey
Mullender's book Rethinking Domestic Violence: The Social Work and Probation Response 1996,
she states that this and excuses like it have the tendency to defer the responsibility from the abuser
to an obstacle from their past that impacted them negatively (231–32). Mullender is on to something
because within the last decade there has been an increase of domestic violence by known
figureheads. These incidents have been conducted by artists, celebrities and athletes. According to a
reporter who has interviewed a couple of these men, all of them blame their actions on "accidents",
the woman or due losing consciousness (Ross). None of these excuses hold any leverage ... Show

Even though most acts of domestic violence are not seen, the United States Department of Justice
reports that they make up 21% of violent crimes (Truman). This issue is nothing to take lightly just
because it is not presented as much as other crimes. The Salvation Army believe so too, which is
why they created this ad that incorporates a viral "controversy" with the actual controversy of
domestic violence. They are subliminally sending the message that although, this dress caused
commotion it was not important. What is important is that women are getting abused daily without a
blink of an eye. There needs to be a change in the society to cause an uproar over events or
movements that can protect a life or make the world better, not for an article of clothing that perhaps
one person owns and decided to luckily place the right camera filter on at the right time. Society
needs to get its priorities in order before some truly horrifying event happens that shakes the world

Domestic violence can be found in houses around the United States, affecting the people in it. In
some cases it can cause a long term depression or potentially cause suicide, which is not a topic to
be joking about, so the government creates programs to help the needed in their recovery and thus
come the question that has wandered us all "Are these programs having their intended effect? Are
they working to curb domestic violence?" As surprising as it sounds, there is a lot of argument on

A Review of Evan Stark's Coercive Control Doctor Evan Stark began writing his book Coercive
Control: How Men Entrap Women in Personal Life in 1995. Unquestionably so, completing this
book was an extensive undertaking. His entrenchment and immersion in the field of domestic
violence relating to social work, legal/policy and research, spans far greater than the twelve years it
took him to complete this book in 2007. Stark draws from, and acknowledges, colleagues as well
friendships that have provided him with the knowledge base necessary to complete such an
exhaustive work. Dr. Stark's credentials in the area of violence against women developed through

Stark explains that where women are already subordinate, wife beating is supported by the
patriarchy and is a function of specific factors. Under the law women were not equal citizens to
men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck.
Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women's work)
and wage labour (men's work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered 'real' work. In
tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of women
participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of social
organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private sphere, violence
was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark explains that this was
because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and the illogical privilege
based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and men began using a range
of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not specifically written about before
the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. "Each household governed by coercive control,
each relationship, becomes patriarchy in miniature" (p. 194). Stark concludes this section by

this. Due to the fact,"3–4 million children between 3–17 age are at risk of exposure to domestic

A person has never understood how you could abuse the person you love. Some people find it
amusing to hit on someone that will always be by their side. Who would take their anger out on
someone so innocent that hasn't done anything wrong? It's a question no one can really answer, but
hopefully people will learn a lot from this paper. Anyone's cry for help, is not a laughing matter
because they seriously could be in danger. Domestic Violence is a very touchy subject for anyone,
whether you are a victim or a witness. According to www.merriam–webster.com, domestic violence
is the inflicting of physical injury by one family or household member on another; also, a repeated
or habitual pattern of such behavior. One in three women will experience domestic violence at some
point in their lifetime. According to the Violence Policy Center, 1,388 women were murdered by
men they knew in 2014, and 870 of those murders were committed by an intimate partner of the
victim. (www.domesticshelters.org Abusive Red Flags Everyone Should Know). Also,
www.domesticshelters.org states, if your partner has a violent temper and quickly changes moods,
pressures you to move fast in a relationship, or pushes for immediate commitment, is continuously
jealous and possessive, then he or she is most likely abusive. Domestic violence is the most
overlooked, misunderstood offense. Anyone can go through it, but many can't endure the pain it
brings. According to (www.helpguide.org), people whose partners abuse them physically and
sexually are at a higher risk of being seriously injured or killed. Most people wonder why doesn't
the victim leave the relationship, well it is not that easy. "The question, 'Why does she stay?' is code
for some people for, it's her fault for staying,' as if domestic violence victims intentionally choose to
fall in love with men intent upon destroying us" –Leslie Morgan Steiner (www.azquotes.com). An
abuser will do anything and everything he or she can to make you feel bad about yourself or

There are many topics that people do not like to talk about, topics that cause discomfort or are seen
as taboo. However, as much as people wish to not talk about it, it doesn't mean the topic doesn't
exist. Domestic violence is one of the worst things committed on a daily basis, yet is only seen
behind closed doors. In the public service announcement against domestic violence, "It Rarely
Stops" presented by the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the organization's use of pathos is
more clearly established than ethos or logos. The ad is much less than informative than others, but it
sends a clear message and provides a solution to the problem that is abusive relationships. Although
there isn't much, the public service announcement does present some sort of appeal to ethos. By the
National Domestic Violence Hotline presenting an announcement over the topic of domestic
violence, it deems them a legitimate source. Not only has the hotline received calls from over 2
million victims or observers of abusive relationships, but they have gathered information on what
the first signs of domestic violence looks like, which is the focus of the announcement. If another
organization such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline created an ad on domestic violence, it
might send a good message, but their evidence could be incorrect, and viewers might not take them
seriously since the ad is not in the focus of their organization. The National Domestic Violence
Hotline presents an ad that

Their inadequacies are, however, themselves reflections of economic and related social
circumstances that determine opportunities, influence motives, help shape attitudes, and fix the daily
prospects for health and well–being. A person may experience internal conflict in trying to decide
which set of values, attitudes, and codes of behavior to accept and internalize. For example, to a kid
living in a neighborhood that has many criminal types, these people may be symbols of economic
and social success because they have money, expensive clothes, fancy cars, and other material
possessions that inspire respect and jealousy. The kids may draw to the criminal life–style of these
people because they want the same symbols of success for themselves. At the same time, several
youths in the neighborhood may have good relationships with parents or other adults who are
noncriminal in their life–styles and who try to instill non–delinquent values in them. A young person
exposed to both types of influences must balance out their merits and decide whether to accept the
values of one set of associates or those of the other. Between 1990 and 2002 there were 13,504

Domestic Violence. What is it and What can be done about it?
According to John Thawley, "domestic violence, or domestic abuse, is a systematic pattern of
intentional intimidation that is reinforced by violence or the threat of violence, for the purpose of
gaining or maintaining power and control over one's partner." Many people feel the need to act in a
way that will intimidate their partner for numerous reasons. The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica
state, the abuser might feel stressed or might have a lot on their plate and not know how to cope
with it. Another reason, according to Encyclopedia.com, could be, as a child the abuser witnessed
their parents go through domestic violence and it stuck with them as something that is normal or
justifiable. Although, there is no justification for violence within a household. Many victims of
domestic violence in the Hispanic community do not seek help because they do not understand the
law and are afraid to call the police. Victims need to understand that, in the city of Houston, there
are laws set in place to help them; regardless of what their cultural upbringing was, it should not
justify their partner abusing them; and if their partner went through a challenging time as a child,
they need to get help.
Due to cultural upbringings, most Hispanic women are expected to live with their husband

Lots of people, abuser and non–abusers blame alcohol and substance for their violent actions. While
this may be true it's not right to say flat out. Yes 93% of the persons causing violence on their
spouses were alcoholics (Roleff, Tamara). Alcohol and drugs are in hankers but never and excuse
and/or cause. Abuse is a choice (Introduction). Being a society of people who find it the easiest way
to get out of a situation is blaming something on another thing. Substance abuse seems pretty
common and generic. There are a lot of things that go into abuse before alcohol is brought into the
picture. The fact that a spouse is jealous or controlling even just angry is magnified by the effect of
alcohol (Roleff, Tamara) it makes everything a whole lot worse. The abuser being affected by
alcohol is also a way so the abuser and the person being abused have something to blame it on
(Roleff, Tamara). As stated before we are a society of giving out blame.
It is also stereotyped that a man is the one to be the abuser. This is not true. Men are almost equally
abused or taken advantage of. "Historically there has been a culture of permission that accepts and
condones violence against women" (Dr. Jerkins, White, Joseph). As a society we live by this.

Kids nowadays know more about the Internet than you could imagine.
Parents should learn to take the time to monitor what their kids go on, take the time to learn what is
appropriate and what is not. Learn how to avoid seeing or sharing violent messages and images.
Knowledge is they key to power. "You should always know what's going on in someone's life,
especially if it involves them or anybody else". (Youth Engage 2014) Many parents have no idea
what goes on when their kids go upstairs or go into a different room. Children could be getting

The Lecture On Domestic Violence Essay
The Lecture taken by 'Shine' explored the changes and influences of the Domestic Protection Act,
1982 and the Domestic Violence Act, 1996. The presentation put emphasis on the law and systems
in dealing with domestic violence. Included also in the lecture, was the analysis of protection orders
and police interference. Protection orders are in practice for the urgent safety of the victims of
domestic violence. They are applied for through the family court with evidence of domestic violence
or potential danger (Morden, 2016). The lecture also demonstrated that the law does not tolerate
even single acts of abuse and takes procedures very seriously. The various acts are in place and are
continually improving to protect New Zealanders that may be in danger of abuse.
The first reading, 'Gender bias, fathers' rights, domestic violence and the Family court', argues that
laws regarding domestic violence are bias towards men. This accusation is supported by the
accessibility that women have to use or misuse protection orders. The law gives women the
opportunity to give themselves immediate custody over their children and property (Davis &
Powell, 2004). The gender bias against men is also given credibility by the large proportion of
fathers denied access to their children at all. However, this legislation has proved to be positive as
the majority of cases prove that danger is most prominent when the partner leaves the abuser. The
question of whether the law is beneficial for the

The Global Epidemic Of Elder Abuse Essay
"Evidence suggests that one in 10 older adults experiences some form of elder abuse, but only one
in 25 cases is reported to social services agencies" (Dong, 2012, p. 2151). Elder mistreatment can
occur in a variety of settings including domestic and assisted living. Elder abuse includes
psychological, physical, and sexual abuse; neglect to include both caregiver and self–neglect; and
financial exploitation. With the vast explosion of the aging population in today's society elder abuse
can no longer loom in the shadows.
Literature Review After many years, the global epidemic of elder abuse is beginning to receive the
public attention it desperately needs. Forty years after child abuse and domestic violence first
entered mainstream of the publics' eye, elder abuse, which attacks all demographic, geographic, and
economic populations on earth is finally making headway. Studies have shown that elder abuse is
severely underreported with about 10% of all elderly being subjected to some form of abuse and an
estimated less than half of these cases ever get reported (B. J., & Holroyd–Leduc, 2012). The
American dreams includes that we believe in the right to live free of abuse, neglect and exploitation
and violence regardless of age, gender, race and economic standing.

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence
Domestic violence occurs in general when a current or former intimate partners exerts dominance
and control in a relationship through physical, sexual, or emotional trauma to the victims. Domestic
violence exists in all cultures, ethnicities, faiths, age, group. Domestic violence can occur in many
situations, like between married couples, or unmarried couples; between couples who live in rural
areas or urban areas. Sometimes these victims have experienced both physical and sexual abuse that
are damaging their life's. These abuses can have long lasting effects that not only harm the
individual but the family and friend who loves them. Women, children and sometimes men go
through these traumatic experiences and physiological consequences that may lead to years of drug,
mental illness or even death. Local, State, and the Federal government should help stop domestic
violence by making stronger laws, helping to solve the different kind of abuse that occur, and
providing good education to people living in poverty.
Although domestic violence affects many people, it's a big issue across all over the world. These
victims are sexually, physically, and physiologically abused by their partners or ex–partners. These
victims sometimes submit to this kind of situation when they could not defend themselves or they
are scared telling people about the life they are living. Each type of abuse is discussed below.

  • 1. The Eyes Of Feminism By Simone De Beauvoir Of the first person to attempt to view history through the eyes of feminism, Simone de Beauvoir asserts that man is the great subject and woman is the other – man is seen as essential, woman is not. Her primary argument is that men fundamentally oppress women by characterizing them as the 'other'. The author also believes that women's inferiority in society is not a result of natural, sexual differences but rather of differences in the societal development of men and women. She argues that women are not born passive; rather, "kept in a situation of inferiority", one becomes used to the fact that she "is inferior" (xxiv). Sex is a fixed physiological difference between males and females, usually assigned at birth. Gender, on the other hand, refers to the differences of a man and a woman determined by a particular culture and society that the individual belongs to. Socially constructed responsibilities, behaviors, and attributes for men and women are considered gender roles. According to Joan W. Scott, gender is "used to designate social relations between the sexes" (Joan Scott 1056). While aspects of biological sex are similar across different countries and cultures, aspects of gender and how ominously gender roles are emphasized may be different. In these manners, gender inequality refers to the unfair treatment and discrimination against individuals based on their gender and the imbalance between the sexes. Gender inequality exists because it remains beneficial to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence Domestic violence has been and will always be an unacceptable, global contention unless the church and government work together to create a life–giving environment for which our nation can reside. Domestic violence can include abusive behavior, psychological and emotional misconduct, and the issue of control. The United States Government can only do so much before the Church has to step in and provide for the victims of domestic violence. The results of our government's lack of initiative about domestic violence incorporate varying forms of abuse. The three most frequent forms of domestic violence include human trafficking, intimate partner abuse, and child abuse. Between 800,000 and four million people across the globe have been affected by human trafficking, a thirty–two billion dollar industry. Severe physical spousal abuse affects one in five women and one in seven men. When a child is domestically abused, they are more likely to experience long and short term psychological problems such as PTSD. Children who undergo this injustice are six times more likely to commit suicide and fifty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Caitlin Mahserjian, a Law Clerk in the New York City Law Department, argues her point that the government's "absence of legislation, insufficient legislation, and failure to enforce existing legislation results in victims being left unprotected at the hands of their government" (1). Even though the government has organizations available for women and children who have been affected by domestic violence such as BWJP and The Center of Domestic Violence, records show that most victims do not receive sufficient treatment. The United States' Constitution has laws regarding domestic violence; however, statistics show that the percentage of women in the US being held captive by this crime is the same in other third world countries that do not have these laws in place. ... • 5. Domestic Violence Domestic Violence is a problem sweeping the nation. This problem can affect anyone from anywhere but is generally acting out upon children and adult women in abusive relationships. Domestic violence is emotionally and physically scarring for anyone involved, and as a result could take multiple intervention meetings to begin to understand the issue, alleviate the associated problems, and to assist the victim in getting back on his or her feet. The consequences of abuse include anxiety, depression, post–traumatic stress disorder and self–harm. Children may begin to act differently to their usual behavior – withdrawal is very common, as is self–harming (Khan, 2012). There are two ways that people can consider interventions for victims of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three most common ways to use persuasion to curb domestic violence is to educate, have nonverbal signals, and to speak out. Educating people will teach people how to deal with anger in a passive way before turning into an abusive case. Different kinds of people can be shown and given education on the dangers and signs of domestic violence and can use their knowledge of the issue to put a stop to it. Nonverbal signals are a good way for people in relationships with anger problems to control that anger. If there is a nonverbal signal in place, whoever is angry can take the time to walk away and clear their head before turning to violence during an argument. Last, speaking out is one of the best ways to put a stop to domestic violence. Calling the authorities when he or she see or hear something can save someone's life. Take the necessary steps when something first happens rather than later, when it gets out of hand. Domestic violence is a crime, and there are almost always victims that come out of it damaged. Persuading people to do these things could very well curb domestic violence and help save a life. (2) Social psychology can help to end domestic violence in many ways. Social Psychology deals with interactions between people. So, in theory, social psychology could help psychologists study the relationship from parent to abuser, and the relationship from ... • 7. Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence Barnes, Iesha LA Delta Student Final Draft 4/26/16 Domestic Violence The deepest problem with domestic violence is that some cultures do not believe there is such a thing. Domestic violence can be perpetrated in many ways such as sexual abuse, psychological abuse, social abuse, economic abuse and spiritual abuse. Abusers who commit domestic violence do so to control their victim, and maintain that control by threatening the victim's safety and/or that of people they love. Punishment for cases of domestic violence should be taken into consideration. However, most governments do not consider the cultural background of couples when deciding whether to prosecute reported cases of domestic violence. Furthermore, ... Among female victims of contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner, an estimated 71.1% first experienced these or other forms of intimate partner violence before age 25 years, with an estimated 23.2% having first experienced this before age 18 years. (Matthew J. (Matthew J. Breiding) The results presented in this report indicate that a significant number and proportion of female and male U.S. adults have experienced sexual violence, stalking, or intimate partner violence during their lifetimes or in the 12 months preceding the 2011 survey. Because of the broad range of short– and long–term consequences associated with these forms of violence, the public health burden of sexual violence, stalking, and intimate partner violence is substantial. Despite frequent depictions in the media of sexual violence and stalking perpetrated by strangers (15,16), strangers were reported as the perpetrator by less than one–fourth of stalking victims and by less than one–fourth of victims of each form of sexual violence except noncontact unwanted sexual experience mentions Breiding ... • 9. Domestic Violence Affects Children 's Development Introduction Thesis: Domestic violence can negatively affect children 's development. (make more persuasive) Children all around the world witness domestic violence. Whether it 's between parents, partners or even the elder. Does the parents, partners, or elder realize the affects that happen to their children? Witnessing domestic violence, children become fearful and anxious. They become this way because they never know when the next event may happen, fearing for themselves, mom or dad, and siblings. Also becoming worthless and powerless, feeling the need to keep their family a secret and/or not being able to talk to their own family about the abuse. Sometimes they feel like they are the reason why there is domestic violence in their home. If they look fine to you or others in the world that don't know about their family, they truly may not be fine at all inside. As reading it doesn 't seem that the children are being hit in any of the domestic violence, but the parent that is being hit from their partner fear for the child/children. Domestic violence, can negatively affect children 's development. (try to make more persuasive) General information about domestic violence Body Paragraph 1: By being in a domestic relationship, you would be cautious on what you say and do. Examples Of Persuasive Speech On Domestic Violence Awareness The Persuasive Speech Name: Jessica Baeza Section: COMM 101–111 Speech Title: Love Should Not Hurt: Domestic Violence Awareness General Purpose: To persuade Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to increase domestic violence awareness Organizational Pattern: Monroe's Motivated Sequence INTRODUCTION: (1) Attention Getting Device: According to an article titled "Don't Believe in the War On Women? Would a Body Count Change Your Mind?", since September 11, 2001 more American women were killed by an intimate partner than all of the victims of 9/11 and all of the American military fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan combined (Gidfar, 2012). One woman is fatally shot by a spouse, ex–spouse or dating partner every 14 hours, states Wright (2016) from the U.S. Department of Defense, and these are just the statistics for women, but domestic violence happens to men, as well, but less often. (2) Thesis Statement: Everyone in this room has a voice. We can take a stand and use our voice to educate ourselves and others on healthy relationships and decrease the number of women and men who are victims of domestic violence. (3) Justification: "It does not just happen to "other people" or "certain kinds of people" (Day, 2016). It can happen to our sisters. It can happen to our brothers. It can happen to our friends. It can happen to our peers. It can happen to people we love (Repetition). Nearly three–fourths of Americans know a victim of domestic violence personally (Wright, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Domestic Violence Persuasive Speech On behalf of Christians, I am here today to represent the values, attitudes and beliefs of Christianity on the topic of domestic violence. Unfortunately, domestic violence is a widespread issue that is common throughout the households of not just Australia but the rest of the world. Throughout biblical scripture it is evident that domestic violence starkly opposes God's plan for families and this is particularly seen in Genesis 1 and 2 which depict marriage as a one–flesh, helping relationship and Ephesians 5:21 talks about mutual submission. (Got Questions Ministries, n.d.). Furthermore, Verses 25–33 talk about a husband's self–sacrificial love for his wife which is further supported by First Peter 3:1–7 as it gives similar instructions (Got Questions Ministries, n.d.). Additionally, First Corinthian 7:4 states "The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the article Julia draws a causal link between Christian views on marriage and domestic violence in which she blames Christians practice and beliefs for this social evil. Initially, it seems she has a watertight case as she brings to our attention pastors who supposedly promote and condone abuse in the line "Reverend Peter Catt... says: "I have heard pastors...tell people...that they have to stay in situations of abuse because they are under the headship of the male." However, Julia has only found church leaders who make claims about situations they have heard with no details or names. Even the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Glenn Davies, who Julia stresses "is known for its emphasis on headship", says that "headship is not domination" and "if a woman's life is in danger she should leave, even though that would mean 'disobeying her husband'". This is evidence hardly supports Julia's argument about endorsement of male dominance and domestic violence by the Christian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence Today, at this very moment, we are living in a world plagued with domestic violence. We are living in a world in which people are scared of being physically, sexually or emotionally abused by someone they love; their partner, their parent or any other member of their family. This is one of the most aggressive, personal forms of violence and sadly, it's also one of the most common. Australians are more likely to be abused or even killed by someone known to them, than anyone else. We are most likely to be hurt by those we love. We are more likely to be abused in our own homes, the place that should act as a haven, the one place we should feel safe and loved, than anywhere else. This war happening within our homes, is a war that is being fought silently. We, as Australians, have so much further to go on the epidemic of domestic violence, and we have so much more to do if we ever dream of eliminating it. Perhaps you are thinking that this is simply a craze, a problem that has been exaggerated and amplified by the media, a problem that will eventually die out when the spotlight is taken off it. In all honesty, this isn't a completely illogical conclusion to reach, for so long this war on domestic violence has been swept under the rug; hidden from judgemental eyes. Sadly, even though this fight has been hidden, it has been evident in this "lucky country" for generations. In 1996, 7.1% of women in Australia, or 490,400 individuals, had experienced some form of domestic violence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We didn't want it to happen again, no one wants to go through this. Even though we had a restraining order it didn't help, he came back and broke down the door in force to come for my mother. She was frightened and didn't know what to do, she became more cautious than usual. Domestic violence is a form of abuse, it takes over your life and self worth. Domestic violence should be considered for both parties because if a man can do it a women can do it. Gender profiling is a substantial problem with domestic violence and how the different genders are dealt with." Gender profiling is a big one because everyone automatically thinks men are the abusers. "Domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation" (Domestic Violence 1). No matter what you are and how you look it's still domestic violence. Crisis Support : Domestic Abuse Essay Crisis Support: Domestic Abuse Problem, Solution and Barriers Paper Eric Ross COMM 2367: Persuasive Communication TR 2:20–3:40 Kristie Sigler 1 October 2016 Crisis Support: Domestic Abuse Problem, Solution and Barriers Paper Problem Social workers have explained the situation an abused victim of family violence is in as high cost and low reward (Griffin, 2015). This is because despite feeling anguish the individual is trapped in the plight because the fear of being alone in the world is a worse alternative (Griffin, 2015). Individuals in such situations do not depart until an outside alternative promises them a better life (Griffin, 2015). The problem I am addressing in my paper is the unawareness of domestic abuse and the prevalence of intimate partner violence. Many people may not comprehend the existence of domestic abuse because it is seldom spoken of but the problem exists in many forms nonetheless. The following are statistics meaningful in expressing the existence and magnitude of domestic abuse in Ohio. According to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there were 678,810 child cases of maltreatment; among which 78% experienced neglect, 18% experienced physical abuse, 9% experienced sexual abuse and 11% experienced another form of maltreatment in 2012 (Honor, 2015). The National Network to End Violence conducted a single day report on September 16, that said there were 2,047 adult and children victims of domestic abuse served in Ohio 2015 ... • 28. Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence Domestic violence: a taboo issue in our society, where the discussion is shut down by fear of instability or vulnerability. A crime, hidden from plain view, behind closed doors, that harms up to half a million innocent individuals every year. Someone is experiencing some form of domestic violence as we speak as for every 15 seconds there is a woman beaten around the world, and for every hour as many as 115 children are abused. Domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, is a violation of human rights. It involves violent, abusive or intimidating behaviour carried out by an adult against a partner or former partner to control and dominate that person. Violence of any form should not be accepted in our modern society it nurtures fear and hatred, and it should not be locked away as an allowable social norm. We should be better than that. Violence affects a healthy family's relationship, state of mind and well–being, in other words, it's normal functions. Because of violence, children are forced to endure and cope with mental, physical and emotional trauma leading to a display of impacts on health, development, and wellbeing. The effects build up over time and can impact on every aspect of their life. How many children and innocent lives must suffer from something unnecessary? Imagine walking into a home late at night to find a child hiding in a corner, with a bloody face and cuts all around their body saying they were self–inflicted or making up other silly excuses like falling down the stairs out of extreme fear. Up to 75% of all acts of domestic violence occurs between the ages 18–24. No child should ever see domestic violence as normal because the moment that happens a future perpetrator has been born. We need to take a stand and refuse to let domestic violence become something we ignore. According to ourwatch.org, 90% of children from violent homes witness their fathers beating their mothers, in that same category, 63% of all boys aged 11–22 commit crimes and kill the man who abuses their mother. Statistics from Australian bureau of statistics show that abused children or children living in violent homes are arrested four times more often than non–abused or less violent families. Summary The aim of this session was to introduce us to the process of making an initial visit after receiving a referral within the role of a social worker. This was done with a small group exercise involving role play. We were placed into groups of four and once in our groups we had to divide ourselves into roles. There were three roles consisting of Service user, Social worker and observer. We were then taken to one side with people from other groups whom had be given the same role as ourselves and briefed on what it was we had to do. I was given the role of social worker, therefore i was told that I had to plan and undertake an initial visit and given the receipt of a referral. The referral consisted of concerns regarding a young boy, Max aged 2. The referral was made by the child's nursery. They had concerns about his behavior and presentation, for example, Max is often very tired, wears the same clothes for a number of consecutive days, is greedy when given food and aggressive towards his peers. Alongside this, questions regarding his mother, sally, were also raised. When staff at the nursery had spoken to her she seemed to show littler concern regarding her son's behavior, she often smells strongly of alcohol and bruises have been seen on her face. It was therefore my responsibility to take this information from this receipt of referral on board before then undertaking my role within the role play of a social worker making an initial visit. According to the Salvation Army and Care Haven, it is "Hard to See Black and Blue" on a White upper–class woman because viewers focus on her gold and white dress, rather than on the bruises that cover her body. The sponsors of the public service announcement put a gold and white dress on a battered woman to incorporate a popular phenomenon with something serious: domestic violence. Within the last decade, there has been an increase in reported incidents of domestic violence among upper–class renowned Americans males. Martha Ross, a reporter, interviewed a few of these men. All of them blamed their actions on "accidents" or the woman ("Charlie Sheen?"). Despite these men's excuses, they still gain support; instead of taking the abuser's side people need to protect women. One group that understands the need to protect women from these types of men is the Salvation Army; they have a division called CareHaven that specializes in sheltering women and their children who have experienced domestic abuse (Salvation Army's CareHaven). In the advertisement on the previous page, CareHaven appeals to viewers' sense of logic and emotion by using a woman, text, and an illusion to persuade people to report and, thus, stop abuse against women. CareHaven's use of the Caucasian woman is their strongest attribute in this ad to support their effort to lessen violence against women. She is Caucasian, blonde, well–dressed in a gold and white ... However, with these new trends are we becoming too sensitive to different matters such as what we consider to be a crime or violent? According to Janne Kivivuori's article Understanding Trends in Personal Violence: Does Cultural Sensitivity Matter he discusses how we, as a society, have become more sensitive to what is defined as being violent or a criminal act. In one of his opening lines he quoted Emile Durkheim as saying that as the crime rates decrease people adjust their views to make room for alternative crimes; He believes that society needs a certain amount of crime in order to remain balanced. In Kivivuori's article he explains how different nations react to crimes such as domestic abuse, and public disorder, as well as how likely someone is to report propensity; then finally how they relate to the different cultural changes. Although it proved difficult to find anything about this author he is a research director at the Institute of Criminology and Legal Policies; he is a sociologist, and criminologist as well as being an author (Twitter). Most of his books are written in other languages; presumably Finnish. • 36. Persuasive Speech On Domestic Violence ONE STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation of humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a great threat endangering the lives of thousands of women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We live in a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn't be let out. We know it's happening, and even hear or see the events. But who's taking action? I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic? Sadly enough, people look at this endless crime as just a figure or percentage, we're shocked at first but nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the struggle, and a step to save our nation. And yes, I'm not anyone special, I don't study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence myself. But I'm here to tell a story. I'm here to make a change. And I'm here to encourage all of you to do the same. I'm going to share an experience I had. Something that I've regretted and hated myself for since, knowing that help could've been sought earlier. A few years back, I was catching up with a family member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened but she just brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the bruises became worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she still seemed the happy go–lucky girl I knew and loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you, sometimes the people who seem happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the case. Flashforward a few months, and her partner was being trialled and charged under the case of domestic abuse. Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself. Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this day, I still can't even begin the fathom how anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant other and act like everything is fine. • 42. Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence Why is love so profoundly fascinating and significant a theme for us? Maybe because it makes people act out and cause their significant other emotional and/or physical pain. But why do the ones getting hurt by this form of love stay? It's because the love they have for their significant other (or others involved) is what makes them want to stay. Simply, we find Domestic Violence such a fascinating form of love because the love that the victim feels, makes them stay in such horrible situations and the actions of the abuser draw in an interest into this unique manifestation of love. There are many reason why people would stay in a domestic violence relationship– be it fear, dependency, cultural/religious beliefs or even just love for the abusive partner. However, on average, at least one woman dies a week in Australia due to domestic violence (www.domesticviolence.com.au). Shouldn't this be a sign to people in a domestic violence relationship? On many accounts, the victim of a domestic violence relationship believes that they have done something to deserve the violence used against them, or they believe that they can help/change the abuser. The love that they hold for the person hurting them makes them want to stay and help them, even if it means risking their own safety. Unquestionably so, completing this book was an extensive undertaking. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stark explains that where women are already subordinate, wife beating is supported by the patriarchy and is a function of specific factors. Under the law women were not equal citizens to men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck. Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women's work) and wage labour (men's work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered 'real' work. In tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of women participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of social organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark explains that this was because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. "Each household governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in miniature" (p. 194). Stark concludes this section by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence A person has never understood how you could abuse the person you love. Some people find it amusing to hit on someone that will always be by their side. Who would take their anger out on someone so innocent that hasn't done anything wrong? It's a question no one can really answer, but hopefully people will learn a lot from this paper. Anyone's cry for help, is not a laughing matter because they seriously could be in danger. Domestic Violence is a very touchy subject for anyone, whether you are a victim or a witness. According to www.merriam–webster.com, domestic violence is the inflicting of physical injury by one family or household member on another; also, a repeated or habitual pattern of such behavior. One in three women will experience domestic violence at some point in their lifetime. (www.domesticshelters.org Abusive Red Flags Everyone Should Know). Also, www.domesticshelters.org states, if your partner has a violent temper and quickly changes moods, pressures you to move fast in a relationship, or pushes for immediate commitment, is continuously jealous and possessive, then he or she is most likely abusive. Domestic violence is the most overlooked, misunderstood offense. Anyone can go through it, but many can't endure the pain it brings. According to (www.helpguide.org), people whose partners abuse them physically and sexually are at a higher risk of being seriously injured or killed. Most people wonder why doesn't the victim leave the relationship, well it is not that easy. "The question, 'Why does she stay?' is code for some people for, it's her fault for staying,' as if domestic violence victims intentionally choose to fall in love with men intent upon destroying us" –Leslie Morgan Steiner (www.azquotes.com). An abuser will do anything and everything he or she can to make you feel bad about yourself or defective in some way (www.helpguide.org). • 62. Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence There are many topics that people do not like to talk about, topics that cause discomfort or are seen as taboo. However, as much as people wish to not talk about it, it doesn't mean the topic doesn't exist. Domestic violence is one of the worst things committed on a daily basis, yet is only seen behind closed doors. In the public service announcement against domestic violence, "It Rarely Stops" presented by the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the organization's use of pathos is more clearly established than ethos or logos. The ad is much less than informative than others, but it sends a clear message and provides a solution to the problem that is abusive relationships. Although there isn't much, the public service announcement does present some sort of appeal to ethos. By the National Domestic Violence Hotline presenting an announcement over the topic of domestic violence, it deems them a legitimate source. Not only has the hotline received calls from over 2 million victims or observers of abusive relationships, but they have gathered information on what the first signs of domestic violence looks like, which is the focus of the announcement. If another organization such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline created an ad on domestic violence, it might send a good message, but their evidence could be incorrect, and viewers might not take them seriously since the ad is not in the focus of their organization. Their inadequacies are, however, themselves reflections of economic and related social circumstances that determine opportunities, influence motives, help shape attitudes, and fix the daily prospects for health and well–being. A person may experience internal conflict in trying to decide which set of values, attitudes, and codes of behavior to accept and internalize. For example, to a kid living in a neighborhood that has many criminal types, these people may be symbols of economic and social success because they have money, expensive clothes, fancy cars, and other material possessions that inspire respect and jealousy. The kids may draw to the criminal life–style of these people because they want the same symbols of success for themselves. At the same time, several youths in the neighborhood may have good relationships with parents or other adults who are noncriminal in their life–styles and who try to instill non–delinquent values in them. A young person exposed to both types of influences must balance out their merits and decide whether to accept the values of one set of associates or those of the other. Between 1990 and 2002 there were 13,504 males and 3,168 females who died as a result of homicide. This showed that males, ages 12 through 17, were four times more likely than females to be murdered. According to John Thawley, "domestic violence, or domestic abuse, is a systematic pattern of intentional intimidation that is reinforced by violence or the threat of violence, for the purpose of gaining or maintaining power and control over one's partner." Alcohol and drugs are in hankers but never and excuse and/or cause. Abuse is a choice (Introduction). Being a society of people who find it the easiest way to get out of a situation is blaming something on another thing. Substance abuse seems pretty common and generic. There are a lot of things that go into abuse before alcohol is brought into the picture. The fact that a spouse is jealous or controlling even just angry is magnified by the effect of alcohol (Roleff, Tamara) it makes everything a whole lot worse. The abuser being affected by alcohol is also a way so the abuser and the person being abused have something to blame it on (Roleff, Tamara). As stated before we are a society of giving out blame. It is also stereotyped that a man is the one to be the abuser. This is not true. Men are almost equally abused or taken advantage of. • 74. The Lecture On Domestic Violence Essay The Lecture taken by 'Shine' explored the changes and influences of the Domestic Protection Act, 1982 and the Domestic Violence Act, 1996. The presentation put emphasis on the law and systems in dealing with domestic violence. Included also in the lecture, was the analysis of protection orders and police interference. Protection orders are in practice for the urgent safety of the victims of domestic violence. They are applied for through the family court with evidence of domestic violence or potential danger (Morden, 2016). The lecture also demonstrated that the law does not tolerate even single acts of abuse and takes procedures very seriously. The various acts are in place and are continually improving to protect New Zealanders that may be in danger of abuse. The first reading, 'Gender bias, fathers' rights, domestic violence and the Family court', argues that laws regarding domestic violence are bias towards men. This accusation is supported by the accessibility that women have to use or misuse protection orders. The law gives women the opportunity to give themselves immediate custody over their children and property (Davis & Powell, 2004). The gender bias against men is also given credibility by the large proportion of fathers denied access to their children at all. However, this legislation has proved to be positive as the majority of cases prove that danger is most prominent when the partner leaves the abuser.
