Reflect on the bullying video and write out your thoughts:
This video showed how someone’s life can change because of Cyber
Bullying. I felt terrible for the poor kid because he felt like there was no
way out of it. I don’t know how I would manage the situation but I would
try and contact a teacher or parent to make it end. If I were any of his
friends I would have really tried to help him or to at least make him feel
better. One of the reasons that he was so miserable was because he
felt really lonely. I really don’t want to judge this kid because I’ve never
been in his place and I’m sure that it’s not very nice to be bullied. I hope
to never be bullied or to be a witness of it. Why bully? I would never
bully someone! If they do or say something to you then don’t bother
answering them. Remember, violence is never the right answer.
Reflect on the five reactions and write out your thoughts:
I think that the bully’s reaction was not the one that she was supposed
to have. Maybe she felt it was only a game but for the victim it was seen
as threats and bullying. She should be more consent of what she does
and says to the poor kid.
The mom’s opinion was totally expected. As the mother I’m sure she felt
really sad and scared of what was going on with her son. If I were in her
place I would have done the same thing, I wouldn’t stand to see my boy
suffer more. She did what was right and I totally support it.
The teacher only explained what she saw and how she tried to help.
She was doing the correct thing because that was part of her job at
school, to make students feel better.
Rob talked of how he changed his mind about bullying his friend. He
acted correctly when realizing the mistake but he should have stopped
Kim or at least tell her something about it. In general he did the correct
but could have done much better to solve the problem faster.
Finally we have Joe. He explains how hard it was to tell these things to
anyone else. He seemed very sad and scared about what might happen
in the future. I’m glad the school controlled all this because it must have
been horrible for him to live this.
2. Questions to support reflection:
Does any of this happen at school?
A: I don’t see these kinds of problem at my school. If I see theme they
would be very insignificant and not such a big deal. Yet if I see it very
continuously I would start to get worried.
If you ignore it - simply don't participate - is that ok?
A: It is actually bad to not say anything because then it would all stay as
a secret and the bullying wouldn’t stop. Sometimes people stay quiet to
prevent troubles but the truth is that it’s better to tell on the bully.
How is Cyber Bullying different than in person?
A: Cyber Bullying is when all the threats are done through technological
devices and not face to face.
Imagine Kim - from the reactions - was your "friend" one day but
something came between you!
A: I would do my best to ignore her and not to hear her comments. If
she keep bugging me I would tell someone about it so the problem can
be solved fast.
If you know someone is being bullied right now - at CIPLC - who
could/would you go to for help?
A: I would definitely go to the school consoler so he could take charge
in this problem. If the person who is being bullied is a close friend of
mine then I would talk to them about it first to see what I can do about it.
