Virgin Island Vacation Research Paper
I am so excited to go to the Virgin Islands for vacation this year! Every summer, my family and I go
to a new place for vacation. This year it's the Virgin Islands! I was looking forward to going since
last month because I told my mom we should go somewhere tropical and warm, and that's when we
both thought of the idea to go to the Virgin Islands. The Virgin Islands is in St. John and we are
going to camp at cinnamon bay. My mom said cinnamon bay is one of the best beaches in the world.
We are leaving tomorrow, early in the morning.
When we got on the plane, I thoughtt of what we would do there? Would we go snorkeling, hiking,
camping, scuba diving, and swimming. Then I though of going camping! That's why my mom made

When we were hiking we saw lots of animals like donkeys, deer, mongoose, bats, pigs, birds, and
frogs. I never seen a mongoose before. A mongoose is a weasel–like, slender animal with short legs
and small rounded ears. There about 1.5 feet to 3.5 feet. They have short, dark brown fur. My
favorite animal was the birds because the bird was an Antillean Crested Hummingbird and I love
hummingbirds. I also like them because there feathers are usually blue, green, light, green, and
black. Then we saw many bright and colorful flowers, along the path. We also saw many tall trees.
After we took a trail around our a campsite, we started to head

The Giving Tree Book Report
" The Giving Tree" is a book written by Shel Silverstein about a relationship between a boy and a
tree. As a young boy, the tree allowed him to swing on her branches, eat apples that she grew, and
they would play hide and seek together. Every few days the boy would come back and ask for
certain things, and the tree would always try to give him what he wanted because she loved the boy
so much. Throughout the story, as the boy gets older he spends less time with the tree but continues
to request things from her.
The theme of this story is that it is better to give than to receive. The tree gives freely to the boy
throughout the story without wanting anything in return. The boy receives different things from the
tree as he gets older. She enjoys spending time with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tree never got upset with the boy if he asked for anything that she had. She didn't want the boy
to be sad because that would make her sad. When the tree knew that the boy needed something, she
always tried to give him the things that she had without any argument.
At the end of the book the tree apologizes to the boy because she can't give anything else away
because she already let the boy take her apples, her branches, and her leaves. The book proves that
the tree was sad because she had nothing left for the boy to take.
Instead of letting the boy suffer, the tree made the boy's life a little simpler by giving things. When
the boy needed a house the tree said "I have no house,". "The forest is my house, but you may cut
off my branches and build a house. Then you will be happy." Since the tree couldn't give the forest
to the boy, she gave him pieces of herself so that the boy could have a house to keep him warm. The
boy stayed away from the tree for a long time but the tree didn't care as long as the boy was happy.
I feel that it is more important to give than to receive because it is a way to help the

Essay about The Virgin by Sappho
Critical Analysis: "The Virgin," by Sappho
Bearing a child is the biggest responsibility that will happen in life. Providing time and protection of
the child is a major part. But the most important thing is that they do not become lonely and
forgotten. When being a parent, this is their job, to keep them welcomed and to never forget about
them. In the fragment titled, "The Virgin," Sappho uses vivid imagery to show how an apple tree has
a relationship like mother and child. How the tree would be the mother, and the child would be the
apple. Like a mother and child, it is the responsibility of the tree to hold on to the apple and make
sure it gets taken care of, no matter what. Sappho uses imagery right away when she uses the words,

"Like a sweet apple ripening" in line 1. It is saying that since the apple is ripening, it is then growing
like a child does. How in the beginning of life it goes through changes in its appearance and size and
grows out to who they are today, and become more mature as time goes on. They become a
delightful blessing as they come into the world and grow up.
In line 1, when Sappho uses the words, "on a high branch," it is showing that the apple may be
forgotten about because it can be hard to see, since it is so high. It will especially be forgotten when
people from below see the tree. They will not notice it sitting there. Also, in line 2, when Sappho
uses the words, "on the tip of the topmost branch and forgotten," since it is on the tip of

Personal Narrative Essay : My Mother's Apple Tree
I saw the tree as I rounded the corner of the street, my mother's apple tree, with its boughs stooping
low and leaves twirling in the light autumn breeze. It was shorter than I remembered, its branches no
longer reached towards the stars, nor did its roots stretch beyond horizons. Instead it was like any
other old tree, confined to the tiny front yard of my mother's antiquated Victorian cottage, trapped
between the cobbled footpath and the peeling picket fences.
Once upon a time a swing swayed from its branches, I remember painting the seat green in spring
and red in autumn, to match the apples. In those years long gone, my mother and I would drag out
that rickety stool and take turns picking the delicious fruits, scrambling to savour their sweetness
before the birds got ahead. Yet I don't quite remember which year it was the tree stopped flowering –
ten or fifteen years ago? Perhaps even longer than that.
Now, with its barren branches overhanging at peculiar angles, it looked as though it could no longer
bear its own weight. Now, without its luscious green foliage and abounding fruit, it had no more to
give.
Shame my mother would never let me cut it down.
Emptying her letterbox on my way to the front door, I tossed out the stack of obnoxiously colourful
advertisements and open the only piece of official correspondence. Another invitation, this time
requesting Professor Silverstein's presence at the International Conference on Psychology and
Language Research. Little

I weave in and out of the last of the summer apple trees, beside the deep pool, the weeping willows
cry out as the wind rattles their bones. The howling tempestuous wind carries me into a clearing
where a little girl, with her hair like an inferno splayed around her head like a delicate band, lies
asleep in the silvery moonlight. I fly right up to her and land on her chest, where a scarlet black rose
lies dead upon her breast. I wake up. I don't know where I am. My vision is blurred. I can just make
out that it's dark and that I am lying on my back among the late autumn leaves. As I blink again a
little bit more comes in to my view, laying on my chest is a dead rose of blackened rouge; just lying
on top of one of the petals was a little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I should head to the pond again, something new may have appeared. I race there, tripping and
ripping my dress so just a modest amount remains, my shoes have fallen off; lost to the monster that
is the forest. I clutch the dying rose to my chest; its thorns cutting into my skin, hoping what little
warmth I can give suffices to keep it alive for a little longer. I amble around the boundary of the
pond, looking in every nook and cranny, all I find is a dead pearl white rabbit and a few rotten bones
and coins. I sit in the mauled root of the shrinking willow tree that I tripped over previously; as I sit
there I feel my eyelids getting heavier and heavier. My head throbs with pain, there is no
comparison possible in the world. I take the rose away from my chest: to see only one petal left. I
now understand that it is my life. When it dies, I die. I've never been much of a horticulturist, always
killing plants, funny that when it matter's, it still doesn't matter. He comes back up to me; my fox,
licking my face from chin to temple. It backs away leaving little to none room left between our

The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein
What is unconditional love? According, to the children's poet Shel Silverstein it can be understood
through his book The Giving Tree that was written approximately fifty years ago.
Unconditional love is known as affection without any limitations or without conditions. Since the
book was first published, over 5 million books have been sold worldwide and over 10 million in
print.
Repeatedly throughout this book the boy takes things from the tree, but never gives back. The tree
only wanted the boy to be happy and she would do anything to ensure the boys happiness at any cost
to the tree herself. The tree consistently displayed examples of unconditional love. The boy would
always come back throughout the years with something else he wanted or needed from the tree. The

He collected the apples and took them to the city to sell. Again, he leaves without giving the tree
what she wants or needs.
Later, the boy returns wanting a family and a house. Again, the tree gave what she could. She gave
him her beautiful branches that he use to swing on to build his house with. The boy leaves again
without filling the tree's needs.
Time goes by and the boy returns once more wanting a boat. The tree offered her trunk to the boy, so
he could build his boat that he so desired. Again, the boy takes her sturdy trunk to build his boat, but
does not give back to the tree.
After a long time, the boy returned to visit the tree and surprisingly he did not want anything except
for a place to sit and rest. The tree after giving all she had was still able to give the boy one last
thing, a comfortable stump to rest on. Throughout the story, the tree consistently showed the boy
unconditional love through her generous acts of kindness, but the boy in return did not show the
same kindness throughout his life. Was is it right for the boy to just keep taking from the tree

The Importance Of A Seed Growing Like A Little Me
When I was a young girl, I cherished the moments my family and I had while we were outside
during the summer. Usually going outside consisted of me riding my newly bought, white and pink
bike that I still wobbled on because it was too big for me or climbing the apple tree in the front yard,
but this time, my parents wanted my brother and I to help garden. The dreadful thing of planting a
beautiful flower in the mucky dirt, left my hands and feet soiled in a dark substance. I never liked
gardening and I hated when I saw the neighborhood children enjoying the "activity", but I always
did what my parents told me. Now, as I look back into the life of the young Brittney, I realize that
the only thing that I didn't like about it was the dirt. Did I not understand what putting the root into
the soil meant, or was I just too childish to remark the significance of a seed growing like a little
me? Never did "gardening" come across me as "fun"! Who wanted dirt stuck under their finger and
toenails and who wanted pretty pink clothes ruined with soil? Not me and at that time, I could
guarantee no other girl would want this either! "Fun" came to me as climbing a tree on a hot and
humid day, not gardening. Riding a bike up and down ramps, singing little tunes, and even playing
house left me happier than the dirty, disgusting job of gardening. Don't get me wrong, I loved the
smell of flowers and I loved the little bugs that flew or crawled around, but something about that dirt

Who Is The Old Apple Tree In Purdy's Detail
Purdy's "Detail" delineates an old apple tree grown near a ruined stone house, with descriptive
details that capture the tree's symbolic meaning of nature's durability. This symbolism is exhibited in
the tree's endurance to the winter storm, its apple's durability, and its progress deprived of human
care. The apple tree endures the harsh upbringing of the winter storm, withstanding the harsh
elements of nature against its own nature roots. The polarization of the durability of artificial and
natural substances is expressed, as "in spite of hurricane winds," the apple tree still produced "little
golden bells" and are "perhaps none of the other" varieties of apples raised in a "civil" environment.

Individuality In The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein
One similarity that subsists between humans and trees is that of their sense of individuality. In
diverse ways, each human and tree display their unique sense of character. No two trees display the
same characteristics, just as no two humans ever display the same personality. Both humans and
trees are a source of their roots. However, the branch of similarity between humans and trees doesn't
only extend between their source of individuality. Throughout the story The Giving Tree, written by
Shel Silverstein, both a human and a tree display similarity as they neglect the Categorical
Imperative devised by Immanuel Kant.
Within Kant's Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, the Categorical Imperative states that

Summary Of The Story Of The Three Little Pigs
In England, 1890 there was a tale named "The Story of the Three Little Pigs". In this tale, an old
sow sends her three little pigs into the world to seek their fortune. The pig's meet a man; he supplies
them with building materials such as: straws, sticks, and bricks. Each pig uses one of the materials
to build their house with. The first pig builds his house with straws and the second with sticks; only
to get devoured by a hungry wolf who "huffed and puffed" and blew their houses down. However,
the third pig who built his house with bricks survived the mischievous wolf. The wolf thought to
himself, "Well! If I can't get to him, then I'll have to find a way to bring him to me". So, the wolf
tried to lure the pig out of his home. He tried three various places the: turnip field, apple tree, and
fair. But, the pig outsmarted him by going one hour earlier. The wolf was angry and decided to
climb down the pig's chimney. Subsequently, the wolf was unaware of what the pig had in store for
him on the other side; a big pot of scorching water. The pig celebrated his victory by eating the wolf
for dinner. Throughout "The Story of the Three Little Pigs" the third little pig outwitted his brothers
by exemplifying astute qualities that allowed him to further his quest against the wolf. There was a
plethora of different events that showcased the third pig's intelligence. To name a few: building his
house with bricks, surviving the apple tree incident, the fair and cooking the wolf

Descriptive Essay About A Glass Island
Looking around me, I see an abundant amount of green plants and sand. I felt the micro grainy sand
between my toes. Realizing that I'm not in my cozy bed, I start panicking, trying to remember what
happened. All I remember is that it was a devastating shipwreck. I woke up here not knowing what
happen for I blacked out after the ship had crash into something. I sigh knowing that there's nothing
I could do except sit there and wait for help. Nevertheless, I decided to wander around.
There were so many things surrounding me I didn't even know where to begin. I started by taking in
a deep breath and smelled the salty scent of the sea. Before I could focus on what's around me, I felt
the scorching heat from the sun beaming on my skin. In contrast to the heat, I felt the subtle cool
breeze blowing through my hair.
Bringing my attention to what's ahead of me, I hear the sea crawling onto the shore. I walked
towards the crystal clear water hoping that by putting my feet in it would help me cool off. Although
it was hot, the water was unexpectedly cold. Taking my feet out, I started making my way towards
the green scenery. I hear birds chirping and faint sounds of trees rustling from the light breeze as I
was walking. The first thing I noticed was the sign that said "Glass Island" and the bushes
surrounding it. I bent down to touch the pieces of tree trunk scattered on the ground. The tree trunk
left my fingers fascinated, for it was a texture I've never felt before. Squinting my

Part 1, Task 1: The Apple Trees
Final Exam Part 1, Task 1: The Apple Trees There were two very competitive twin brothers who
always liked to out do the other in order to prove their superiority. One day while eating apples the
two brothers devised a wager after the first brother, Ollie, claimed he could grow the best apple tree,
and the other brother, Andy, disagreed claiming his tree would clearly be better since he is the best
twin. So they both set off to grow the best apple tree they could. Ollie and Andy decided who ever
had the best sprout in one months time would win. Ollie planted his apple seed outside in the dirt
where it would get twelve hours of sun a day and he planed on watering it once a day. Andy,
determined to beat his brother decided to do a lot of research in order to build a small hydroponic
agricultural rig in his closet. Because the research and building of the rig took a week he wanted to
be sure his plant would be able to catch up and surpass Ollie's by the month's end. Andy planted the
seed in a pot of fertilizer and because he could control the amount of light it would get he made sure

Task 2
I wrote this story to relate to the idea of happiness. In order for happiness to flourish it must be
nurtured. Too much of any good thing is a bad thing, because Andy was so concerned with making
sure the plant had every thing it needed to grow at once he smothered it to death by over exposing it
to sunlight while siamotainously over watering it. Another mistake Andy made was that he wanted
the plant to grow just to beat his brother, instead of wanting the plant to go so one day it may indeed
harvest fruit. You can't force happiness, nor can it be manufactured.

What Is The Story Of The Boogey Man Short Story
The Boogey Man
It was 5:00 in the morning when Andre's boat was ready to go to from New York to California so
Andre could go visit a friend who is very sick. Andre heard the ship's whistle. He knew he had to
run to the ship as fast as he could or else he would miss the boat. He reached the boat.. It was
starting to move... he had to make a long jump onto the boat..."Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh".... And he made it
onto the boat, Just barely. The boat was called The Thrasher.
There were only 5 passengers on the boat. Andre was walking across the aisle... The lights on the
Thrasher are flickering... Andre goes up to the helm of the boat to ask the captain what's going on.
On Andre's way to the boat, the boat starts jerking, left and right. Andre balances himself on the
railing.... Slowly and steadily he moves forward to the helm.
"Captain, are you there?"... No response... "Captain?".. Still no response, I go to his chair to see if
he's there. "AHHHHHHHHHH!" Andre screams at what he sees. He then runs dashing through the
aisles looking for the rest of the 5 passengers that he saw aboard The Thrasher.
As Andre is running through every place in the boat looking for the people who got onto this boat he
hears a creak.... "Who's there?" Andre says hastily. The lights still flickering, and suddenly they all
turn off. Its pitch black. Andre is has now completely stopped. "Hello?" Andre says. His heart is now

Scrubby Flatwood Background
Sandhill
Sandhill occurs in the uplands on crests and ridges of gently rolling topography. Sandhill is
characterized by an open overstory of widely–spaced longleaf pine (Pinus palustris), sparse
understory of fire–suppressed deciduous scrub oaks and a diverse groundcover of grasses, forbs and
low growing shrubs. Soil is deep, excessively drained, marine–deposited sand of the Lakeland
series. Rapid permeability allows for expeditious aquifer recharge with little to no runoff, however,
nutrients are easily leached, hence soils are generally infertile. In order to maintain open structure,
this xeric upland habitat requires frequent (3 to 5 years), low–intensity, growing season fire.

poem's central assertion is remembrance and honoring of the dead with the family and rebirth. The
poem is about the a father that plants a sequoia tree in honor of his recently deceased infant son.
Gioia uses imagery in the first few stanzas to emphasize the severity of the father and his families'
grief and despair. In these sections he also reveals the setting of the poem which is Sicily and the
reason he chose a sequoia tree. The very first stanza of the Gioia's poem sets the tone for the poem,

This is significant because it emphasizes the melancholy and mournfulness that he depicts with
imagery in the first stanza. Later on in the second stanza, he author describes the tree the narrator
would have planted as a "green sapling rising among the twisted apple boughs". The author uses
visual color imagery of the color green to describe the sapling in order to emphasize just how young
the newborn was when he died. Later on in the poem, the narrator speaks of himself and his brothers
kneeling in front of the newly plated tree. The fact that they are kneeling represents respect for the
deceased. When the narrator mentions that the weather is cold it is a reference back to the first
stanza when he says "of an old year coming to an end". Later on in the third stanza the author writes
"all that remains above earth of a first born son" which means that the deceased child has been
buried. They also compare the child to the size of "a few stray atoms" to emphasize that he was an
infant. All of these symbols and comparisons to are significant because they are tied to the central
assertion of remembrance and honoring of the dead with the family and rebirth. Furthermore, the
last two stanzas are more personal in the sense of how the narrator speaks. The word "we" is used
many times in these last two stanzas, more than the first three. In all five of the stanzas, the word
"we" was used as the authors way of

William Faulkner's The Giving Tree
The Giving tree is about how a little boy would come to this tree so he could have some fun. The
little boy loved the tree and the tree loved the boy as well. But as the boy grew older he "needed" the
tree more and more. The boy wanted some money so he asked the tree for some money but she
didn't have any, so she offered him her apples for him to sell. The boy/man would always come to
the tree for help, but he would never give the tree anything.
The main idea is that the boy is selfish. The tree represents a parent and how the boy would go to his
parents for help and the parent does anything in their power to help. The boy wanted a house but the

Induction Of Decision Trees : Analysis
The paper, Induction of Decision Trees, briefly discusses the history of machine learning algorithms,
the decision tree family of algorithms and their various use cases before giving an in depth
explanation of the ID3 algorithm. This essay focuses on a couple of central ideas behind induction
on decision trees. The first section will contain general background information and context leading
up to the creation of decision trees. Once the context is established, there will be a quick
introduction into the ID3 algorithm. This will be followed by a more rigorous discussion of the
concepts of shannon's entropy and information gain. Following the discussion on entropy there will
be a quick overview on the proposed methods of handling noisy data. The last section will contain a

The field of artificial intelligence gained in popularity during the twentieth century, accompanying
the rise in ubiquity of computers. During this time, the main goal of research was to use computers
to solve problems in an intelligent manner. In other words, researchers sought to develop algorithms
that learn how to solve problems. Quinlan mentions that one group of researchers focused on
creating programs that learn through a feedback cycle of self–testing and "adjusting internal
parameters." A good example of this would be a program written to play checkers against itself
many thousands of times. Each time a sequences of moves produces a winning result, that sequence

Baron in the Trees Essay
The book "The Baron in the Trees," by Italo Calvino is about the Baron Cosimo Piovasco di
Rondò, or simply known as Cosimo, spent almost all of his life living up in the trees of
Ombrosa after refusing to eat the disgusting plate of snails that his sister had made for the family
dinner one night when he was twelve. Cosimo kept to his word "I'll never come down again!"
(Calvino 13) and he never set foot on the ground again. Cosimo was not bound to one tree though;
he was able to travel to many parts of Ombrosa by tree, and lead a very adventurous and full life.
The main point of my essay is to discuss the ongoing relationship between Cosimo and the

During the eighteenth century, due to the industrial revolution and the advent of steam power and
other modern devices the once lush and plentiful trees of Italy had, were cut down in order to fuel
the fires, create more power, and drive the revolution. In the closing paragraphs Biagio states "trees
seem almost to have no right here since my brother left or since they have been swept by this frenzy
for the ax." (Calvino 217) And that the arrival of the French and Napoleon's army, the chopping of
the trees went on. There are very few forests left in Lombardy as they were described as in the book,
if any. According to The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia Lombardy is now "the chief
commercial, industrial, and financial center in Italy, and Lombardy is the country's leading industrial
region." This would explain why people decided to cut down the trees in order to help make way for
the growing economy.
Cosimo's relationship with the trees was not just a place to live, but more than that. He cared for the
trees and protected them as much as he possibly could, as if he were defending a friend or family
member. He and the Abbé constructed an irrigation system in order to put out the forest fires
if they broke out. He also told the French army where they could build new roads, "Cosimo

Espalier Training
Espalier is the art of training a tree or shrub to grow so that its trunk and branches grow flat against
a support, such a trellis, fence or wall. Fruit trees, such as apples, pears and figs are often grown in
this fashion, as are ornamental tree and shrubs.
Espalier training is idea for homeowners who have limited space, or as a method of marking
boundary lines. Success with espalier pruning and training depends greatly on the care of the tree
and providing the proper support.
Choosing Trees
Those new to espalier can benefit from buying trees with a framework of branches already shaped
and formed by professionals. If you wish to espalier fruit trees, always choose those grown on
dwarfing root stock. Dwarf root stock fruit trees only grow up to 10 feet tall, making them well–
suited to espalier training. Ornamental trees and shrubs worth growing as espalier include forsythias,
magnolia grandiflora, yews, viburnums, and jasminums. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While many forms exist, beginners may want to start out simple with a horizontal or candelabra
form. Plant trees 6 to 10 inches from the support, and choose two strong branches to begin shaping;
cut off all other shoots and cut the main branch, or leader, to just above the bottom wire.
It can take up to four years of training and pruning to create a good looking design. During the
growing season, gradually tighten ties so that the branches are drawn horizontally against the fence.
At this time the leader sprouts; when the new sprout is long enough, tie it to the second wire.
During the dormant season, prune back the leader to the second wire, and choose two strong
branches to create the second tier, removing any competing shoots. As the tree grows, you will
repeat this process for each tier, keeping the leader upright and attached to a wire as it grows. When
the leader reaches the top of the support, cut it back to just about the top branch.

A Short Story : A Story?
From the top of the Gala tree, they spied a mousy girl with nut–brown hair stumbling her way
through Mr. Simmons' apple orchard. She was, as Oscar presumed, walking home from the Olympia
Preparatory School up Old Mill Road. Alphonse, Oscar's brother, suspected she was a loner, given
her lack of companions. As the girl approached their treetop hideout, it seemed as if she was
magically led through the grassy grove in a series of clumsy zigzags by a silvery, leafless branch
with a fat, red band around the bottom. The afternoon sunlight flickered against a pair of tinted
lenses covering her eyes as she made her advance towards the tree.
"What on earth are those?" questioned Alphonse. "Shields, of course!" explained his brother.
Alphonse continued his interrogation by asking about the "white twig", and why it swung through
the grass, carrying the girl along with it. "That white twig," Oscar corrected, "is a saber. And it's
probably scouting for enemies to eradicate." Alphonse felt crackles of electric anxiety radiate
through his spine, causing the hairs on all six of his stubby green legs to stand on end. "Indeed, the
life of a caterpillar is quite terrifying," he thought to himself.
The girl finally reached the tree, and after a hearty thwack! of her walking stick, Oscar and
Alphonse hit the ground harder than a dozen of eggs dropped on concrete. The girl suddenly cried
out as a ruddy Gala apple struck her on the face and sent her dark glasses spinning into the thick

Tree Thoughts Research Paper
Tree Thoughts In the early 1950s when I was a tyke of five or six, in my backyard with no sand box
or swing set, grew a cherry tree probably planted in the 1930s by our home's first owners. One of its
major limbs had been sawed off. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches of dark green
serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat–roofed garage it stood next to. It
produced an ample crop, maybe twenty–five quarts, of sour cherries which ripened rapidly in the
middle of summer there in Canton, Ohio. Birds liked those red cherries as much as we did. More
often than not we picked them before the robins began snacking on them. My mom had grown up on
a farm about fifty miles east of Canton and knew how to bake a cherry pie. Starting from scratch,
using lard or Crisco in her recipe, guaranteed her crust would be crisp and flaky. My parents grew
up when canning fruits and vegetables was more the norm than not. Their generation valued
thriftiness. As their first–born I was a shy, inquisitive child. My usual summer attire was blue jeans
turned up three or four inches, and a colorful, striped tee–shirt. When I was older I was told, I acted
grown–up because I had a serious air about me. Like trees, though, I thrived in the sunshine. After

that was part of a natural geometric progression that makes sense only from a very, very high

Case Study Of Magners
Magners is the brand owned by Irish drinks company C&C Group and in 2003 they began to look at
the possibility of launching their brand in the UK with an eye on London in particular. Industry
specialists had warned the company that cider was a declining market which had little or no
potential, as cider was viewed as a summer only drink or something that first–time drinkers,
students and alcoholics drank. Magners had other ideas they wanted to create a new premium brand
vintage cider that placed a premium on the idea of 'time' and 'heritage' as well as its unique selling
point, which was its service (a pint of Magners from the bottle was to be poured over ice). This was
used to establish a point of differentiation in the UK cider market. It offered the consumer added
value from both a premium drinking experience as well as a prolonged enjoyment of the beverage.
Creative agency Young Euro RSCG came up with the 'seasons' campaign using the idea of 'time'.
They created the tagline that's now famously associated with Magners – 'nothing added but time' – a
phrase they used to differentiate it from traditional cider to convey a sense of quality ... Show more

Magners had managed not only to enter the UK market, they had rejuvenated the feelings towards
cider, changing a negative into a positive and increasing cider sales by 26% between 2005 and 2007.
In 2006 it was estimated that Magners, the relatively unknown Irish brand of cider, accounted for
75% of the cider sales growth in the UK, becoming the No 1 bottled alcohol brand in the country,
outselling Budweiser, which previously held the title, in as little as 12 months, which was three
years ahead of their target. Somehow the brand had managed to become a trendy drink among
young people. It gave the consumer who was used to being rushed around all day a feeling that they
could take a little time to themselves. They too could enjoy 'lazing on a sunny

Literary Analysis Of After Apple-Picking By Robert Frost
From "After Apple–Picking" by Robert Frost Lines 1–8
"My long two–pointed ladder's sticking through a tree
Toward heaven still,
And there's a barrel that I didn't fill
Beside it, and there may be two or three
Apples I didn't pick upon some bough.
But I am done with apple–picking now.
Essence of winter sleep is on the night,
The scent of apples: I am drowsing off." In the selected lines from Robert Frost's "After Apple–
Picking," Frost creates the setting for the poem through time indicators, while also relaying the idea
that this is not simply a poem about only apple picking, but it is metaphor about life and death where
"apple picking" means collecting and life experiences. Line one states "My long two–pointed
ladder's sticking through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The barrel that is not filled represents the capacity to do things before an end of some kind, and the
space that could occupy the barrel is empty. In other words, the empty barrel represents missed
opportunity: in the case of apple picking, it could be filled with apples, but is not at the end of the
day. When this concept is related the life itself, it means that ones life could be filled with memories
or life experiences, but at the end, they have not occurred. Then Frost tells us, "Beside it, and there
may be two or three– Apples I didn't pick upon some bough"(4–5). With these lines we get more
information relating to the "barrel that is not filled," which says that there is apples to be picked to
fill the barrel but the narrator does not pick them. With the analogy relating the missed apple to
missed life experiences, it can be inferred that there are two or three life experiences that have or
will be missed. The word "bough"(5) literally means the main branch of a tree. The missed apples
while apple picking were not missed because they were on a small limb; they were missed
seemingly on purpose, because if they were on a small hidden limb it would be understandable if
they were missed on accident. This tells us that the theoretical life experiences, represented as
apples, were not small in nature but large. This is a representation of Frost's feelings toward the
ending of life before one is done experiencing normal life steps.

The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein Meaning
The Giving Tree is a sentimental poem by Shel Silverstein. The main lesson of this poem revolves
around absolute selflessness, it's evident. However, despite this essential, meaningful teaching, there
are other underlying themes that are just as influential, if not more. These other lessons, perhaps, are
vital to a happy life. The Giving Tree preaches around ideas like: going barefoot, just being there for
someone, and that happiness is a place between too much and too little. The relevancy of these life
lessons are indescribable.
Firstly, going barefoot might be the way to walk. The meaning of this short phrase conveys that the
stress–free life of a naive child running barefoot in the yard is something taken for granted. People
are too busy pushing kids into their future that they forget, sometimes childhood is what they should
be revisiting. The hardships of life is something only people with a certain maturity can fully effect.

What this quote conveys is that having too little is an evident struggle, financially, support, a home,
a loss is a loss. It's an emptiness that has yet to be filled. It is a place where genuine happiness has a
hard time taking place. However, throughout the poem, throughout the boy's life, he keeps coming
back to the tree asking for things. He picked her apples to receive money. He took her branches to
build himself a house. He cut her down to use her trunk to make himself a boat. He had all these
wonderful things expecting happiness as a result, but still came back to her. Utter happiness is a
great pair with contemptment. Not too much, but not too little. It took the boy years to realize this,

What Does The Giving Tree Mean
The Giving Tree is a poem which entails various meanings and context. Many people dispute about
exactly what it signifies, however, one thing for certain is the demonstration of emotion. The tree's
devotion and affection for the boy. This poem portrays the selfless tree giving all she is able to, not
keeping score, or how the boy focuses more on want than need, and ultimately, how being there for
your loved one can lead to destruction or a long–lasting relationship.
No one could compare to the generosity shown by the tree; being able to give everything and not
asking for anything, but happiness, in return. On many occasions, the boy comes back and tell his
troubles to the tree. Subsequently, the tree volunteers to help assist the boy on every

Literary Analysis of "The Dancing Bear" and "Planting a...
Analysis of William Frederick Witherington's short story The Dancing Bear
1.
The initial impression gathered from the passage is bizarre and very dreamlike, perhaps chiefly
because it is an excerpt from a novel or a larger literary work. Upon further analysis, the passage
develops an eerily violent tone. The events appear to take place in the home of Dieter Bethge, during
a stormy night while he is sleeping. Immediately the rain is described as falling with "sodden fury",
introducing the negative tone. Shortly after this description, Mrs. Hax adopts the persona of an
animal stalking its prey. She "methodically trimmed the glass out of the frame" eerily without
emotion, despite the fact that she is on her way to cause harm to Dieter, as ... Show more content on

Again, after the paragraphs describing Dieters dream end, the passage is written in a dreamlike
manner. It seems that Bethge mistakes Mrs. Hax for the dancing bear, which is strange because her
actions in the first paragraph are nothing like the graceful actions of the bear, and she does not want
to "fold him onto the fragrant, brilliant fur" in a warm embrace but rather harm him.
Analysis of Dana Gioia's Poem Planting a Sequoia 1. (b) The tone of the Planting a Sequoia prose
passage is reflectively melancholy. It is not one of pure agonizing sadness, yet there are underling
depressing qualities to the author's words. The purpose of the passage is to describe the death an
individual, presumably the first born son of the narrator. The narrator is speaking to the Sequoia that
he is planting. Each of the stanzas switch from a mood of death and a mood of life. The "rain
blacken[ing] the horizon", the "dull gray" skies and the "old year coming to an end" all work
together to create the melancholy mood. The following stanza switches to a newer and livelier
mood, including the celebration of the first son's birth, earth having more "life to bear", the
description of a "green sapling rising among the twisted apple boughs" and the "promise of new fruit
in other autumns". The "promise of ne fruit" describes the symbolic purpose of the tree. Although a
life is lost, there is hope for future "fruit", or life in the future. The third stanza begins with the

When a composition is written at the right time its words will be warm and sweet, just like warm
apple pie coming out of the oven. Once the climb is over and the reward has been reached, the essay
is finished. Once an essay is finished it's journey is not done. The essay, if written at the right time,
will provoke different branches of thought and feeling. These deeper feelings are like the leaves on
the tree. They will pull away from the branches, gracefully fall to the ground and feed the roots of
the tree. After the leaves fall, the vicious cycle will repeat. If the reader feels compelled to use the
information in some way it is like the branches and leaves growing on a tree. What determines if it
is the right time to write about a subject? If it is the right time the words will flow onto paper like
the juices of a ripe apple flowing into your mouth after you take a bite. The words will blend
together, telling a story and a message for the reader to take away. If it is truly the right time, then
the essay will take little time to write. However, if it is the wrong time to write, every word put on
the paper can feel like trying to run a marathon with a hundred pound bag of rocks: every step is
slow, stuttered and stilted. When it is the wrong time to write the essay, no matter how carefully
planned and thought out, it will not connect with the reader; thus, not having a deeper

Corporate Social Responsibility ( Csr )
Introduction
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become imperative on business convention nowadays.
"Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and
contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their
families as well as of the local community and society at large" (Holme and Watts, 2000). The term
CSR was appeared in the 1950s, but until 1989, Ben and Jerry's was the first company which truly
publish a social responsibility report (Coles, 2012). In recent years, numerous organizations evaluate
firms on their CSR performance since the society is concerned about the CSR ranking.
Consequently, business managers in various countries may treat CSR as an inevitable priority
(Porter & Kramer, 2006). Nevertheless, CSR is still a controversial issue in the world. Some
businesses are struggling to balance corporate and social aims due to the growing societal attention
in CSR. This essay will compare and contrast arguments in favour of and against CSR from the
perspective of firms.
Main Body
Majority of businesses believed that CSR can improve firm's profitability and value. Companies can
enhance accountability and transparency through CSR. This may lead to improve the reputation of
companies among investors so the businesses can gain investment capital more easily (Kielmas,
2011). Edwards's (2011) mentioned that Image Microsystems (IM) is an example of company that

Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree
Have you ever thought about what love means to you? Love is different for everyone. The story I
read shows us several different ways of what love is and how to show it.The tree had many different
types of love for the boy.In The Giving Tree, Shel Silverstein uses the characters of the tree and the
boy to explain the themes of love and happiness.
There are thousands of ways to show love.In the book, The Giving Tree, the tree shows its love for
the boy through the act of giving."But I have no money. I have only leaves and apples. Take my
apples, Boy, and sell them in the city. Then you will have money and you will be happy." "I wish
that I could give you something. But I have nothing left. I am just an old stump.I am sorry..." "Well,"

The tree gets its happiness when he makes the boy happy. "Cut down my trunk and make a boat,"
said the tree. "Then you can sail away... and be happy." "I have no house," said the tree. "The forest
is my house, but you may cut off my branches and build a house. Then you will be happy."
Everything the tree has, was given to the boy to make him happy. When the boy would come and
plead for supplies, the tree would not think twice about her decisions. If they would hurt her, or
leave her with less, all she would think about was how could I provide for this boy, how can I show
him I love him and want to make him happy.I bet you have someone so special to you, that all you
want to do is make them happy. For most of us, this would be our family. To the tree this was its
family. Can you imagine having family that doesn't love you. I can't. Even though the boy doesn't
show love to the tree, the tree is still willing to make the boy happy. That is true

European Crab Apple Tree Research Paper
European Crab Apple: The native Crab Apple is occasional in southern Illinois, yet uncommon or

Each medium–green leaf is deeply cut with five–pointed lobes. As the trade name suggests, the

the continued existence of honey bees. The bees depend largely on this pollen. In addition to
supporting honey bees, maple trees also support pancake lovers across the continent. The ratio of
sap to syrup is rather surprising; sometimes, it can take up to 30 gallons of sap to produce only 1
gallon of syrup. The sugary sap is also used to produce maple taffy, maple cream, and maple sugar.
The biggest issue for maples is spacing. Fortunately, these trees are not as picky about sunlight and
can successfully grow in both sunny and shady spots. Partial shade may be preferable to full sun or
full shade, however. They need a thorough soaking as soon as the soil starts going dry. Fertilizer is

states that kids are like their parents. This theme is utilized very strongly in the novel Frankenstein.
In this case, however, the creature is very similar to his creator, Victor Frankenstein. For example,
they both have a strong relationship with nature, an undying thirst for revenge, and they are isolated
from the people around them. As the novel progresses, it is apparent that Victor and the creature find
peace in similar things, and struggle with identical problems. At age 15, when Victor sees the

Victor fascinated by nature, but he even takes comfort in it. The creature is also captivated by

Summary Of ' The Tree '
Everyone is capable of being able to give and take, but some do one more than others.Throughout
the story of the giving tree all the boy took everything from the tree, never to give, and vise–versa
for the tree. The unusual part though is when the tree gave to the aging boy. It was happy every time
the boy was, even where there was nothing left of the tree but a stump, the tree gave the boy a place
to rest.Despite all that the tree lost because of the boys selfish attitude he/she somehow still remains
happy. The Tree Symbolizes selflessness because he/she gives everything to the boy.The tree 's
selfless attitude is a good role model for the average person.
As the boy grows older, he started to want more & more from the tree, at first when he was young,

to a parent figure towards the boy, and the boy relates to a child. It also showcases the difference
between selflessness and selfishness. The first example of selfishness and selflessness is when the
boy kept demanding for items from the tree, and the tree simply giving to the boy. The tree and the
boy´s relationship are similar to a child and their parent. A parent is constantly giving and caring for
their children. A child also needs and wants from their caretakers. And as the boy grew older he kept

sticking out of the ground. When she looked up, she saw the evil witch standing in front, looking at
her. The princess quickly ran the opposite direction not knowing what to do, she knew the witch
wanted to kill her. She kept running until she climbed up a rocky mountain and hid under a huge
pine tree. She heard light footsteps coming near the tree as she peaked around the thick trunk of the
tree when all of the sudden a pair of dry skeleton like hands grabbed her ankles and dragged her out.
When she turned around, she saw a giant knife aimed towards her heart, behind the knife was the
evil witch. The princess kicked the witch in her stomach, causing the witch to drop the knife and
stumble back. The princess watched as the witch stepped on a loose rock over the edge of the
mountain and fell back landing on a roughly cut tree with sharp branches sticking out stabbing
through her

Personification In The Giving Tree
Have you ever had someone take your kindness for weakness? Have you ever had someone use you
for your money and good fortune? There is a boy in the giving tree that is doing all of this to
something who loves this boy. the boy keeps taking advantage of all the trees stuff and resources. In
the Giving Tree, Shel Silverstein uses personification to show the relationship of the tree and they
boy, and how the tree has feelings. Shel Silverstein used personification to make the tree into a
person and how the tree can show love to the boy and how it can do all this stuff just for the boy to
spend time with have you ever had someone take your kindness for weakness? Have you ever had
someone use you for your money and good fortune? The tree waits and waits for the boy and the
boy only comes every once and a while and when he comes it's only using the tree for its resources
and money. "i am too big to play, i want to buy things and have fun." ... Show more content on

The boy never slows down and enjoys time with people. the boy just wants what the tree has, and is
taking advantage of the tree's stuff. I think the tree does too much for the boy and the boy gives
nothing in return. The tree always gives the boy anything he needs and the boy never even says
thank you or anything. The boy always gets what he wants, and the tree always gives it to him. The
boy is all " i want this, and i want that." "i want a house, i want a family."
"I want a boat that will take me far away from here." The boy never stops wanting and never says
thank you or shows any kind of sympathy towards the tree, it's a one way love. The boy is so selfish,
he only wants what's good for himself and does not care about the people who have been there for

Virgin Island Vacation Research Paper

  • 1. Virgin Island Vacation Research Paper I am so excited to go to the Virgin Islands for vacation this year! Every summer, my family and I go to a new place for vacation. This year it's the Virgin Islands! I was looking forward to going since last month because I told my mom we should go somewhere tropical and warm, and that's when we both thought of the idea to go to the Virgin Islands. The Virgin Islands is in St. John and we are going to camp at cinnamon bay. My mom said cinnamon bay is one of the best beaches in the world. We are leaving tomorrow, early in the morning. When we got on the plane, I thoughtt of what we would do there? Would we go snorkeling, hiking, camping, scuba diving, and swimming. Then I though of going camping! That's why my mom made me bring my sleeping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we were hiking we saw lots of animals like donkeys, deer, mongoose, bats, pigs, birds, and frogs. I never seen a mongoose before. A mongoose is a weasel–like, slender animal with short legs and small rounded ears. There about 1.5 feet to 3.5 feet. They have short, dark brown fur. My favorite animal was the birds because the bird was an Antillean Crested Hummingbird and I love hummingbirds. I also like them because there feathers are usually blue, green, light, green, and black. Then we saw many bright and colorful flowers, along the path. We also saw many tall trees. After we took a trail around our a campsite, we started to head ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Giving Tree Book Report " The Giving Tree" is a book written by Shel Silverstein about a relationship between a boy and a tree. As a young boy, the tree allowed him to swing on her branches, eat apples that she grew, and they would play hide and seek together. Every few days the boy would come back and ask for certain things, and the tree would always try to give him what he wanted because she loved the boy so much. Throughout the story, as the boy gets older he spends less time with the tree but continues to request things from her. The theme of this story is that it is better to give than to receive. The tree gives freely to the boy throughout the story without wanting anything in return. The boy receives different things from the tree as he gets older. She enjoys spending time with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tree never got upset with the boy if he asked for anything that she had. She didn't want the boy to be sad because that would make her sad. When the tree knew that the boy needed something, she always tried to give him the things that she had without any argument. At the end of the book the tree apologizes to the boy because she can't give anything else away because she already let the boy take her apples, her branches, and her leaves. The book proves that the tree was sad because she had nothing left for the boy to take. Instead of letting the boy suffer, the tree made the boy's life a little simpler by giving things. When the boy needed a house the tree said "I have no house,". "The forest is my house, but you may cut off my branches and build a house. Then you will be happy." Since the tree couldn't give the forest to the boy, she gave him pieces of herself so that the boy could have a house to keep him warm. The boy stayed away from the tree for a long time but the tree didn't care as long as the boy was happy. I feel that it is more important to give than to receive because it is a way to help the ... Providing time and protection of the child is a major part. But the most important thing is that they do not become lonely and forgotten. When being a parent, this is their job, to keep them welcomed and to never forget about them. Like a mother and child, it is the responsibility of the tree to hold on to the apple and make sure it gets taken care of, no matter what. Sappho uses imagery right away when she uses the words, "Like a sweet apple ripening" in line 1. It is saying that since the apple is ripening, it is then growing like a child does. How in the beginning of life it goes through changes in its appearance and size and grows out to who they are today, and become more mature as time goes on. They become a delightful blessing as they come into the world and grow up. In line 1, when Sappho uses the words, "on a high branch," it is showing that the apple may be forgotten about because it can be hard to see, since it is so high. It will especially be forgotten when people from below see the tree. They will not notice it sitting there. • 7. Personal Narrative Essay : My Mother's Apple Tree I saw the tree as I rounded the corner of the street, my mother's apple tree, with its boughs stooping low and leaves twirling in the light autumn breeze. It was shorter than I remembered, its branches no longer reached towards the stars, nor did its roots stretch beyond horizons. Instead it was like any other old tree, confined to the tiny front yard of my mother's antiquated Victorian cottage, trapped between the cobbled footpath and the peeling picket fences. Once upon a time a swing swayed from its branches, I remember painting the seat green in spring and red in autumn, to match the apples. In those years long gone, my mother and I would drag out that rickety stool and take turns picking the delicious fruits, scrambling to savour their sweetness before the birds got ahead. Yet I don't quite remember which year it was the tree stopped flowering – ten or fifteen years ago? Perhaps even longer than that. Now, with its barren branches overhanging at peculiar angles, it looked as though it could no longer bear its own weight. Now, without its luscious green foliage and abounding fruit, it had no more to give. Shame my mother would never let me cut it down. Emptying her letterbox on my way to the front door, I tossed out the stack of obnoxiously colourful advertisements and open the only piece of official correspondence. Another invitation, this time requesting Professor Silverstein's presence at the International Conference on Psychology and Language Research. Little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Frankenstein Creative Writing I weave in and out of the last of the summer apple trees, beside the deep pool, the weeping willows cry out as the wind rattles their bones. The howling tempestuous wind carries me into a clearing where a little girl, with her hair like an inferno splayed around her head like a delicate band, lies asleep in the silvery moonlight. I fly right up to her and land on her chest, where a scarlet black rose lies dead upon her breast. I wake up. I don't know where I am. My vision is blurred. I can just make out that it's dark and that I am lying on my back among the late autumn leaves. As I blink again a little bit more comes in to my view, laying on my chest is a dead rose of blackened rouge; just lying on top of one of the petals was a little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I should head to the pond again, something new may have appeared. I race there, tripping and ripping my dress so just a modest amount remains, my shoes have fallen off; lost to the monster that is the forest. I clutch the dying rose to my chest; its thorns cutting into my skin, hoping what little warmth I can give suffices to keep it alive for a little longer. I amble around the boundary of the pond, looking in every nook and cranny, all I find is a dead pearl white rabbit and a few rotten bones and coins. I sit in the mauled root of the shrinking willow tree that I tripped over previously; as I sit there I feel my eyelids getting heavier and heavier. My head throbs with pain, there is no comparison possible in the world. I take the rose away from my chest: to see only one petal left. I now understand that it is my life. When it dies, I die. I've never been much of a horticulturist, always killing plants, funny that when it matter's, it still doesn't matter. He comes back up to me; my fox, licking my face from chin to temple. It backs away leaving little to none room left between our noses. I feel myself slipping away, the blurriness coming back I can just see the fox and his peaceful summer sunset eyes. • 11. The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein What is unconditional love? According, to the children's poet Shel Silverstein it can be understood through his book The Giving Tree that was written approximately fifty years ago. Unconditional love is known as affection without any limitations or without conditions. Since the book was first published, over 5 million books have been sold worldwide and over 10 million in print. Repeatedly throughout this book the boy takes things from the tree, but never gives back. The tree only wanted the boy to be happy and she would do anything to ensure the boys happiness at any cost to the tree herself. The tree consistently displayed examples of unconditional love. The boy would always come back throughout the years with something else he wanted or needed from the tree. The thesis of this book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, the tree gave what she could. She gave him her beautiful branches that he use to swing on to build his house with. The boy leaves again without filling the tree's needs. Time goes by and the boy returns once more wanting a boat. The tree offered her trunk to the boy, so he could build his boat that he so desired. Again, the boy takes her sturdy trunk to build his boat, but does not give back to the tree. After a long time, the boy returned to visit the tree and surprisingly he did not want anything except for a place to sit and rest. The tree after giving all she had was still able to give the boy one last thing, a comfortable stump to rest on. Throughout the story, the tree consistently showed the boy unconditional love through her generous acts of kindness, but the boy in return did not show the same kindness throughout his life. • 13. The Importance Of A Seed Growing Like A Little Me When I was a young girl, I cherished the moments my family and I had while we were outside during the summer. Usually going outside consisted of me riding my newly bought, white and pink bike that I still wobbled on because it was too big for me or climbing the apple tree in the front yard, but this time, my parents wanted my brother and I to help garden. The dreadful thing of planting a beautiful flower in the mucky dirt, left my hands and feet soiled in a dark substance. I never liked gardening and I hated when I saw the neighborhood children enjoying the "activity", but I always did what my parents told me. Now, as I look back into the life of the young Brittney, I realize that the only thing that I didn't like about it was the dirt. Did I not understand what putting the root into the soil meant, or was I just too childish to remark the significance of a seed growing like a little me? Never did "gardening" come across me as "fun"! Who wanted dirt stuck under their finger and toenails and who wanted pretty pink clothes ruined with soil? Not me and at that time, I could guarantee no other girl would want this either! "Fun" came to me as climbing a tree on a hot and humid day, not gardening. Riding a bike up and down ramps, singing little tunes, and even playing house left me happier than the dirty, disgusting job of gardening. Don't get me wrong, I loved the smell of flowers and I loved the little bugs that flew or crawled around, but something about that dirt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Who Is The Old Apple Tree In Purdy's Detail Purdy's "Detail" delineates an old apple tree grown near a ruined stone house, with descriptive details that capture the tree's symbolic meaning of nature's durability. This symbolism is exhibited in the tree's endurance to the winter storm, its apple's durability, and its progress deprived of human care. The apple tree endures the harsh upbringing of the winter storm, withstanding the harsh elements of nature against its own nature roots. The polarization of the durability of artificial and natural substances is expressed, as "in spite of hurricane winds," the apple tree still produced "little golden bells" and are "perhaps none of the other" varieties of apples raised in a "civil" environment. • 17. Individuality In The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein One similarity that subsists between humans and trees is that of their sense of individuality. In diverse ways, each human and tree display their unique sense of character. No two trees display the same characteristics, just as no two humans ever display the same personality. Both humans and trees are a source of their roots. However, the branch of similarity between humans and trees doesn't only extend between their source of individuality. Throughout the story The Giving Tree, written by Shel Silverstein, both a human and a tree display similarity as they neglect the Categorical Imperative devised by Immanuel Kant. Within Kant's Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, the Categorical Imperative states that rational beings should "Act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Realizing that I'm not in my cozy bed, I start panicking, trying to remember what happened. All I remember is that it was a devastating shipwreck. I woke up here not knowing what happen for I blacked out after the ship had crash into something. I sigh knowing that there's nothing I could do except sit there and wait for help. Nevertheless, I decided to wander around. There were so many things surrounding me I didn't even know where to begin. I started by taking in a deep breath and smelled the salty scent of the sea. Before I could focus on what's around me, I felt the scorching heat from the sun beaming on my skin. In contrast to the heat, I felt the subtle cool breeze blowing through my hair. Bringing my attention to what's ahead of me, I hear the sea crawling onto the shore. I walked towards the crystal clear water hoping that by putting my feet in it would help me cool off. Although it was hot, the water was unexpectedly cold. Taking my feet out, I started making my way towards the green scenery. I hear birds chirping and faint sounds of trees rustling from the light breeze as I was walking. The first thing I noticed was the sign that said "Glass Island" and the bushes surrounding it. I bent down to touch the pieces of tree trunk scattered on the ground. The tree trunk left my fingers fascinated, for it was a texture I've never felt before. Squinting my ... Part 1, Task 1: The Apple Trees Final Exam Part 1, Task 1: The Apple Trees There were two very competitive twin brothers who always liked to out do the other in order to prove their superiority. One day while eating apples the two brothers devised a wager after the first brother, Ollie, claimed he could grow the best apple tree, and the other brother, Andy, disagreed claiming his tree would clearly be better since he is the best twin. So they both set off to grow the best apple tree they could. Ollie and Andy decided who ever had the best sprout in one months time would win. Ollie planted his apple seed outside in the dirt where it would get twelve hours of sun a day and he planed on watering it once a day. Andy, determined to beat his brother decided to do a lot of research in order to build a small hydroponic agricultural rig in his closet. Because the research and building of the rig took a week he wanted to be sure his plant would be able to catch up and surpass Ollie's by the month's end. Sandhill is characterized by an open overstory of widely–spaced longleaf pine (Pinus palustris), sparse understory of fire–suppressed deciduous scrub oaks and a diverse groundcover of grasses, forbs and low growing shrubs. Soil is deep, excessively drained, marine–deposited sand of the Lakeland series. Rapid permeability allows for expeditious aquifer recharge with little to no runoff, however, nutrients are easily leached, hence soils are generally infertile. In order to maintain open structure, this xeric upland habitat requires frequent (3 to 5 years), low–intensity, growing season fire. Species include a canopy of longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) ... This is significant because it emphasizes the melancholy and mournfulness that he depicts with imagery in the first stanza. Later on in the second stanza, he author describes the tree the narrator would have planted as a "green sapling rising among the twisted apple boughs". The author uses visual color imagery of the color green to describe the sapling in order to emphasize just how young the newborn was when he died. Later on in the poem, the narrator speaks of himself and his brothers kneeling in front of the newly plated tree. The fact that they are kneeling represents respect for the deceased. When the narrator mentions that the weather is cold it is a reference back to the first stanza when he says "of an old year coming to an end". Later on in the third stanza the author writes "all that remains above earth of a first born son" which means that the deceased child has been buried. They also compare the child to the size of "a few stray atoms" to emphasize that he was an infant. Induction Of Decision Trees : Analysis The paper, Induction of Decision Trees, briefly discusses the history of machine learning algorithms, the decision tree family of algorithms and their various use cases before giving an in depth explanation of the ID3 algorithm. This essay focuses on a couple of central ideas behind induction on decision trees. The first section will contain general background information and context leading up to the creation of decision trees. Once the context is established, there will be a quick introduction into the ID3 algorithm. This will be followed by a more rigorous discussion of the concepts of shannon's entropy and information gain. Following the discussion on entropy there will be a quick overview on the proposed methods of handling noisy data. The last section will contain a critique of the paper. The field of artificial intelligence gained in popularity during the twentieth century, accompanying the rise in ubiquity of computers. During this time, the main goal of research was to use computers to solve problems in an intelligent manner. In other words, researchers sought to develop algorithms that learn how to solve problems. Quinlan mentions that one group of researchers focused on creating programs that learn through a feedback cycle of self–testing and "adjusting internal parameters." A good example of this would be a program written to play checkers against itself many thousands of times. Each time a sequences of moves produces a winning result, that sequence is given a ... During the eighteenth century, due to the industrial revolution and the advent of steam power and other modern devices the once lush and plentiful trees of Italy had, were cut down in order to fuel the fires, create more power, and drive the revolution. In the closing paragraphs Biagio states "trees seem almost to have no right here since my brother left or since they have been swept by this frenzy for the ax." According to The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia Lombardy is now "the chief commercial, industrial, and financial center in Italy, and Lombardy is the country's leading industrial region." This would explain why people decided to cut down the trees in order to help make way for the growing economy. Cosimo's relationship with the trees was not just a place to live, but more than that. He cared for the trees and protected them as much as he possibly could, as if he were defending a friend or family member. He and the Abbé constructed an irrigation system in order to put out the forest fires if they broke out. He also told the French army where they could build new roads, "Cosimo ... Fruit trees, such as apples, pears and figs are often grown in this fashion, as are ornamental tree and shrubs. Espalier training is idea for homeowners who have limited space, or as a method of marking boundary lines. At this time the leader sprouts; when the new sprout is long enough, tie it to the second wire. As the girl approached their treetop hideout, it seemed as if she was magically led through the grassy grove in a series of clumsy zigzags by a silvery, leafless branch with a fat, red band around the bottom. The afternoon sunlight flickered against a pair of tinted lenses covering her eyes as she made her advance towards the tree. "What on earth are those?" questioned Alphonse. "Shields, of course!" explained his brother. Alphonse continued his interrogation by asking about the "white twig", and why it swung through the grass, carrying the girl along with it. "That white twig," Oscar corrected, "is a saber. And it's probably scouting for enemies to eradicate." Alphonse felt crackles of electric anxiety radiate through his spine, causing the hairs on all six of his stubby green legs to stand on end. "Indeed, the life of a caterpillar is quite terrifying," he thought to himself. Tree Thoughts Research Paper Tree Thoughts In the early 1950s when I was a tyke of five or six, in my backyard with no sand box or swing set, grew a cherry tree probably planted in the 1930s by our home's first owners. One of its major limbs had been sawed off. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches of dark green serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat–roofed garage it stood next to. It produced an ample crop, maybe twenty–five quarts, of sour cherries which ripened rapidly in the middle of summer there in Canton, Ohio. Birds liked those red cherries as much as we did. More often than not we picked them before the robins began snacking on them. My mom had grown up on a farm about fifty miles east of Canton and knew how to bake a cherry pie. Starting from scratch, using lard or Crisco in her recipe, guaranteed her crust would be crisp and flaky. My parents grew up when canning fruits and vegetables was more the norm than not. Their generation valued thriftiness. As their first–born I was a shy, inquisitive child. My usual summer attire was blue jeans turned up three or four inches, and a colorful, striped tee–shirt. Case Study Of Magners Magners is the brand owned by Irish drinks company C&C Group and in 2003 they began to look at the possibility of launching their brand in the UK with an eye on London in particular. Industry specialists had warned the company that cider was a declining market which had little or no potential, as cider was viewed as a summer only drink or something that first–time drinkers, students and alcoholics drank. Magners had other ideas they wanted to create a new premium brand vintage cider that placed a premium on the idea of 'time' and 'heritage' as well as its unique selling point, which was its service (a pint of Magners from the bottle was to be poured over ice). This was used to establish a point of differentiation in the UK cider market. It offered the consumer added value from both a premium drinking experience as well as a prolonged enjoyment of the beverage. Literary Analysis Of After Apple-Picking By Robert Frost From "After Apple–Picking" by Robert Frost Lines 1–8 "My long two–pointed ladder's sticking through a tree Toward heaven still, And there's a barrel that I didn't fill Beside it, and there may be two or three Apples I didn't pick upon some bough. But I am done with apple–picking now. Essence of winter sleep is on the night, The scent of apples: I am drowsing off." In the selected lines from Robert Frost's "After Apple– Picking," Frost creates the setting for the poem through time indicators, while also relaying the idea that this is not simply a poem about only apple picking, but it is metaphor about life and death where "apple picking" means collecting and life experiences. Line one states "My long two–pointed ladder's sticking through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The barrel that is not filled represents the capacity to do things before an end of some kind, and the space that could occupy the barrel is empty. In other words, the empty barrel represents missed opportunity: in the case of apple picking, it could be filled with apples, but is not at the end of the day. When this concept is related the life itself, it means that ones life could be filled with memories or life experiences, but at the end, they have not occurred. Then Frost tells us, "Beside it, and there may be two or three– Apples I didn't pick upon some bough"(4–5). With these lines we get more information relating to the "barrel that is not filled," which says that there is apples to be picked to fill the barrel but the narrator does not pick them. With the analogy relating the missed apple to missed life experiences, it can be inferred that there are two or three life experiences that have or will be missed. The word "bough"(5) literally means the main branch of a tree. The missed apples while apple picking were not missed because they were on a small limb; they were missed seemingly on purpose, because if they were on a small hidden limb it would be understandable if they were missed on accident. This tells us that the theoretical life experiences, represented as apples, were not small in nature but large. This is a representation of Frost's feelings toward the ending of life before one is done experiencing normal life steps. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein Meaning The Giving Tree is a sentimental poem by Shel Silverstein. The main lesson of this poem revolves around absolute selflessness, it's evident. However, despite this essential, meaningful teaching, there are other underlying themes that are just as influential, if not more. These other lessons, perhaps, are vital to a happy life. The Giving Tree preaches around ideas like: going barefoot, just being there for someone, and that happiness is a place between too much and too little. The relevancy of these life lessons are indescribable. Firstly, going barefoot might be the way to walk. The meaning of this short phrase conveys that the stress–free life of a naive child running barefoot in the yard is something taken for granted. People are too busy pushing kids into their future that they forget, sometimes childhood is what they should be revisiting. The hardships of life is something only people with a certain maturity can fully effect. "Once there was a tree....and she loved a little boy. • 55. Literary Analysis of "The Dancing Bear" and "Planting a... Analysis of William Frederick Witherington's short story The Dancing Bear 1. The initial impression gathered from the passage is bizarre and very dreamlike, perhaps chiefly because it is an excerpt from a novel or a larger literary work. Upon further analysis, the passage develops an eerily violent tone. The events appear to take place in the home of Dieter Bethge, during a stormy night while he is sleeping. Immediately the rain is described as falling with "sodden fury", introducing the negative tone. Shortly after this description, Mrs. Hax adopts the persona of an animal stalking its prey. She "methodically trimmed the glass out of the frame" eerily without emotion, despite the fact that she is on her way to cause harm to Dieter, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, after the paragraphs describing Dieters dream end, the passage is written in a dreamlike manner. It seems that Bethge mistakes Mrs. Hax for the dancing bear, which is strange because her actions in the first paragraph are nothing like the graceful actions of the bear, and she does not want to "fold him onto the fragrant, brilliant fur" in a warm embrace but rather harm him. Analysis of Dana Gioia's Poem Planting a Sequoia 1. (b) The tone of the Planting a Sequoia prose passage is reflectively melancholy. It is not one of pure agonizing sadness, yet there are underling depressing qualities to the author's words. The purpose of the passage is to describe the death an individual, presumably the first born son of the narrator. The narrator is speaking to the Sequoia that he is planting. Each of the stanzas switch from a mood of death and a mood of life. The "rain blacken[ing] the horizon", the "dull gray" skies and the "old year coming to an end" all work together to create the melancholy mood. The following stanza switches to a newer and livelier mood, including the celebration of the first son's birth, earth having more "life to bear", the description of a "green sapling rising among the twisted apple boughs" and the "promise of new fruit in other autumns". The "promise of ne fruit" describes the symbolic purpose of the tree. Although a life is lost, there is hope for future "fruit", or life in the future. The third stanza begins with the ... • 57. Fall Traditions Every single fall–either as September is saying goodbye, or as October is saying hello–my family and I go apple picking. This is one of my family's favorite fall traditions. The apple orchard takes me to a place where every burden of the outside world ceases to exist. The sweet smell of apples enters my nose with every gentle breeze. The bite of the cold, harsh fall air on my skin makes my skin tingle. The soft buzz of the bees throughout the orchard sound like a symphony to me. The seemingly endless rows of trees in the beautiful orchard puts a smile onto my face every year. My family and I always pick a bushel of perfect apples. When a composition is written at the right time its words will be warm and sweet, just like warm apple pie coming out of the oven. Once the climb is over and the reward has been reached, the essay is finished. Once an essay is finished it's journey is not done. The essay, if written at the right time, will provoke different branches of thought and feeling. These deeper feelings are like the leaves on the tree. They will pull away from the branches, gracefully fall to the ground and feed the roots of the tree. After the leaves fall, the vicious cycle will repeat. If the reader feels compelled to use the information in some way it is like the branches and leaves growing on a tree. What determines if it is the right time to write about a subject? If it is the right time the words will flow onto paper like the juices of a ripe apple flowing into your mouth after you take a bite. The words will blend together, telling a story and a message for the reader to take away. If it is truly the right time, then the essay will take little time to write. However, if it is the wrong time to write, every word put on the paper can feel like trying to run a marathon with a hundred pound bag of rocks: every step is slow, stuttered and stilted. When it is the wrong time to write the essay, no matter how carefully planned and thought out, it will not connect with the reader; thus, not having a deeper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. Corporate Social Responsibility ( Csr ) Introduction Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become imperative on business convention nowadays. "Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large" (Holme and Watts, 2000). The term CSR was appeared in the 1950s, but until 1989, Ben and Jerry's was the first company which truly publish a social responsibility report (Coles, 2012). In recent years, numerous organizations evaluate firms on their CSR performance since the society is concerned about the CSR ranking. Consequently, business managers in various countries may treat CSR as an inevitable priority (Porter & Kramer, 2006). Nevertheless, CSR is still a controversial issue in the world. Some businesses are struggling to balance corporate and social aims due to the growing societal attention in CSR. This essay will compare and contrast arguments in favour of and against CSR from the perspective of firms. Main Body Majority of businesses believed that CSR can improve firm's profitability and value. Companies can enhance accountability and transparency through CSR. This may lead to improve the reputation of companies among investors so the businesses can gain investment capital more easily (Kielmas, 2011). In addition to supporting honey bees, maple trees also support pancake lovers across the continent. The ratio of sap to syrup is rather surprising; sometimes, it can take up to 30 gallons of sap to produce only 1 gallon of syrup. The sugary sap is also used to produce maple taffy, maple cream, and maple sugar. The biggest issue for maples is spacing. Fortunately, these trees are not as picky about sunlight and can successfully grow in both sunny and shady spots. Partial shade may be preferable to full sun or full shade, however. The Apple Doesn T Fall Too Far From The Tree Analysis Frankenstein Essay "The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree" is a common idiom which basically states that kids are like their parents. This theme is utilized very strongly in the novel Frankenstein. In this case, however, the creature is very similar to his creator, Victor Frankenstein. For example, they both have a strong relationship with nature, an undying thirst for revenge, and they are isolated from the people around them. As the novel progresses, it is apparent that Victor and the creature find peace in similar things, and struggle with identical problems. At age 15, when Victor sees the lightning strike a tree, he becomes fascinated with nature. It was at that moment he desired to study natural philosophy. "The impossibility of remaining on the lake after that hour, had rendered our residence within the walls of Geneva very irksome to me. I was now free. Often, after the rest of the family had retired for the night, I took the boat, and passed many hours upon the water" Not only is Victor fascinated by nature, but he even takes comfort in it. This morning, like all others I can remember, I woke to darkness, crawled from the hill, and made the usual trek to this harsh, gray strip. Everyday, I have to forage for food for the colony. I don't complain, though. Life could be worse. One day, I was scavenging by a red flower bush when a terrible shadow came over me and a massive, white object came down and crushed two legs of one of my co–workers. The white object continued down the sidewalk, alternating with another. They were attached to the bottom of one of the tan beasts we call "hoarders".
