Seeing the Harvest Through the Eyes of the Son!
1.
2. Seeing the Harvest Through
the Eyes of the Son!
Mt 9:36 But when He saw the
multitudes, He was moved with
compassion for them, because
they were weary and scattered,
like sheep having no shepherd.
3. How many of you have had the
opportunity to plant something before?
• How well did it do? Did you reap a good
harvest?
• The term “harvest” implies that
everything else necessary has already
been done!
♦The tilling, planting, watering and waiting
have already taken place!
♦It is now time to reap the reward!
4. The greatest harvest one can
ever take part in!
• Not just corn, cotton, or peas! But we
are dealing with “the souls of men!”
• This is the greatest work that one can
be involved in!
• There is nothing in the world greater
than this harvest!
5. Mt 16:26 “For what
profit is it to a man if he
gains the whole world,
and loses his own
soul? Or what will a
man give in exchange
for his soul?”
6. Learning to see souls in
need of a Savior!
• People are lost without the Son!
• There is no hope outside of Jesus!
♦Act. 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any
other, for there is no other name under
heaven given among men by which we
must be saved."
7. I. The Pity of the Harvest!
(Mt. 9:35-36)
• Mt 9:35-36 Then Jesus went about all the cities
and villages, teaching in their synagogues,
preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing
every sickness and every disease among the
people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was
moved with compassion for them, because they
were weary and scattered, like sheep having no
shepherd.
8. Jesus sees people as they “really are!”
• Everyone we meet is either “saved or
lost” there is no other option!
• Without Jesus one is lost!
♦Eph 2:12 that at that time you were without
Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth
of Israel and strangers from the covenants of
promise, having no hope and without God in
the world.
9. We need direction & protection!
• Sheep are helpless without the shepherd!
• Jesus is the “good Shepherd!”
♦Joh 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The
good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”
• Jesus bring hope for the future!
♦1 Cor. 15:19-20
10. II. The Potential of the Harvest!
(Mt. 9:37)
• Mt 9:37 Then He said to His disciples,
"The harvest truly is plentiful, but the
laborers are few.
• Even though they were sheep without a
shepherd, Jesus saw “potential” in them!
♦ Pol-oos’ = much, plenteous, abundant
♦ Found 365 times in the NT!
11. There are souls that need saving
all around us!
• If you cannot find enough to stay busy as
a Christian, then you are not looking!
• All around us is opportunity!
• When we look out into the world we are in,
do we see the potential in others?
12. III. The Problem of the Harvest!
(Mt. 9:37)
• Mt 9:37 Then He said to His disciples,
"The harvest truly is plentiful, but the
laborers are few.
• Jesus sees the pitiful state of men, He
sees the potential in them, but there is a
problem!
♦ Too few are willing to work for Him!
13. The power to save is
available to everyone, but few
are willing to go and share it!
• Did you know, that we still have this
same problem today?
• There are still many souls that need to
be saved, but someone has to share
Jesus with them!
14. IV. The Power of the Harvest!
(Mt. 9:38)
• Mt 9:38 "Therefore pray the Lord of the
harvest to send out laborers into His
harvest."
• There is “power in prayer!”
♦ Js. 5:15 And the prayer of faith will save the
sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he
has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
15. The “Key” is that we are people
that are willing to go and people
that are willing to pray!
• If only we would learn to take Jesus at
His Word!
• Jesus is big enough for all men’s sins!
♦Past, present and future!
16. Conclusion:
• It is my hope & prayer tonight that we will
learn to “see the harvest through the eyes
of the Son!”
• When we look around us, will we see
souls in need of a Savior? Will we be
willing to reach out and share Jesus with
them?
• “Here am I; send me!” (Is. 6:8)
