Nanotechnology is the manipulation of
matter on a near-atomic scale to produce new
structures, materials and devices. The
technology promises scientific advancement in
many sectors such as medicine, consumer
products, energy, materials and manufacturing.
Nanotechnology refers to engineered structures,
devices, and systems. Nanomaterials have a
length scale between 1 and 100 nanometers. At
this size, materials begin to exhibit unique
properties that affect physical, chemical, and
biological behavior.

INTRODUCTIONS
Nanotechnology deals with the design, manufacturing and applications of
nanostructures in useful nanoscale devices such as electronic circuits and
mechanical devices at the molecular level.
In Nanotechnology, the fundamental properties of materials and machines depend on
their size.
Nanotechnology deals with the fabrication of devices or materials which lie in the
sizes of 1 to 100nm. Nanotechnology produces materials that are built up atom-by-
atom.

The Father of Nanotechnology:-
Nanotechnology was founded by Richard
Feynman. It all began with a talk titled “There's
Plenty of Space at the Bottom” by physicist
Richard Feynman at an American Physical Social
conference on December 29, 1959, long before
the word nanotechnology was used.
Do you know who is the father of nanotechnology?

Nano Science and Technology Initiative (NSTI)
It was set up by the Department of Science and
Technology (DST) in 2001 to focus on issues
related to infrastructure development, research
and application programes related to
nanomaterials including drugs, drug delivery, gene
targeting and DNA chips

Nano Science and Technology Mission (NSTM)
NSTM, launched in 2007, is an umbrella
programe that aims to promote research and
development in nanotechnology. The objectives
include the promotion of research,
infrastructure development to support the
research, develop nanotechnology, human
resources, and international collaborations.

Nanotechnology has greatly contributed to
major advances in computing and electronics,
leading to faster, smaller, and more portable
systems that can manage and store larger and
larger amounts of information.
