2. My name is JanetAldridge. I am a 50 years old African American and
reside inAtlanta,GA. I received my Bachelors of Art in Business
Administration from Ashford University and now pursuing a
Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
I lost my mother and father. I married my sweetheart in 1997.We
have a total of six children together which we love our blended
family. Education has always been on my radar, however, I branched
off and decided to do business. I am striving hard to be able to
maintain the new era.Things has changed in a major way.
3. Family Structures
Family is Love. Growing up as a child, I
learned so much coming from my elders.
My family is very close and we support
each other. It is important to be able to
communicate with family, good or bad.
My family does a Christmas Sunrise
service where we get together on
Christmas Eve and sing praises to our
God.This was started by my great
grandmother in 1972. I have been
attending this sunrise since 1972 until
now. My family means the world to me
and I would not trade them for anything.
Education
Education has always been at the top of
my list, however, I lost sight of that when
I had my first child. I tell my children that
you will never get to old to learn new
things. I love children and want to be
someone that instill life rewards into
them. I have always been told that
knowledge is power, education is
knowledge.
4. Age
I am a 50 year old black female striving to be a better me. 50 is a big milestone
for me. Going to college and being the age of 50 is a lot for me but I am
determined to be great. There are times when I struggle with the new ways of
today, however, I am determined to educate my mind as much as I can. I have
always heard that knowledge is powerful.
5. Born and raised in the small town of DeSoto, GA where love meant so much to the
neighborhood. I was raised around people that showed love for each other and cared
about you as a person, friend and neighbor. I was raised in a Baptist Church around
lots of signing (old hymns). I attended public elementary school (Southeast) in Leslie,
GA from kindergarten where I later went to Junior High (Sumter County
Comprehensive High) in Americus, GA. Junior High was in the same school as the
high school. So yes, I was in Junior-High school with high school students, which was
weird, but good at the same time. I decided to be a cheerleader starting in Junior
High school until High School (senior year). As a senior I was named Miss FFA.
I started in the education field in 1992 but later transitioned to the business field. I
felt as though business would be the thing I would want to do and retire but later on
my mind kept going back to children and education. I have 20 nieces and nephews
and I just love being around them and teaching them new things. I now attend The
University of Arizona Global Campus pursing my Masters in Early Childhood
Education. Teaching children is one of my greatest desires. I desire want to teach
students that there is a better future for them.
6. My family had its own softball team growing up as a young child
(top picture). The players consisted of my mom, great aunts,
cousins, and friends of the family. I would always sit and watch the
game and desired to be on the field with them. As I got older, I
started to play the game.We (the team) had a blast. I played first
base and center field. The coach which was my uncle, called me
duck for some apparent reason. Softball was the go to when I was
growing up.We made it a must have in my family. I (we) were always
excited to play the game. My family played ball Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Saturdays. This is a sport that we really enjoyed.
