In orderfor the Philippines to remain a colony of Spain, the
government must implement reforms that will benefit the
native Filipinos. If ignored, the Filipinos will likely become
Independent after a violent and bloody revolution.

5. His Prediction
In his essay, he predicted that once the Philippines became free
from Spain's colonization, this independence will be short-lived since
USA would probably acquire the country. The prediction became the
truth, since Spain sold the Philippines to America for $20 million.

6. Overall Message of Rizal's essay
Rizal simply only wanted that the
Filipinos were treated as equals to the
colonizers, with basic human rights and
independence as a nation. The reforms he
deviced were his hopes to allow his country
to slowly achieve independence while
making sure his countrymen are equipped
with the skills and knowledge to run an
independent country.
