2. MY CHOSEN GENRE
• The genre I have chosen for my opening sequence is the slasher sub-genre.
I will achieve this by featuring generic conventions generally
associated with the slasher genre such as a young blonde female character
home alone located in an area far away from anywhere, a masked killer
stalking his victim wielding a hunting knife, a telephone in which the killer
taunts his victim over, a kitchen knife and bucket loads of blood.
3. STORYLINE
• The plot follows a young girl, Kris, home alone in the middle of the night following an argument
with her boyfriend. She begins to get strange unknown phone calls and a series of disturbing events
occur which scare her into believing that she is being watched by someone.. Or something. The
power cuts, she drops the telephone, behind her a tall shadowed man standing behind the
curtains. The power suddenly turns back on – a moment of silence. The shadow which was standing
behind her is gone. Growing increasingly anxious Kris walks out of the room but before she can she
is stopped in her tracks when the telephone lying on the floor rings once again, she slowly walks
toward it, picking it up, she answers and listens – heavy breathing can be heard from outside the
window. She pulls open the curtains revealing the tall masked man standing with a bloodied knife.
She screams in terror, running to the back door and locking it. The man realising that the door is
locked smashes the glass, attempting to unlock it. Kris runs into the kitchen grabbing a large knife
from the knife stand sitting on the table to protect herself with. The man is nowhere to be seen.
She slowly walks closer to the front door but is greeted by the same masked man lunging at her
with a knife followed by a thrilling chase scene. Kris locks herself into the bathroom, however
discovers her boyfriend lying down dead, his neck cut. Kris escapes through the window but not
before the man attempts to pull her back inside, stabbing her in the shoulder. Kris lands on the cold
ground below, blood pours from the stab wound. She pulls herself up from the floor and runs
through the garden and towards the back gate. Before she can escape she turns around one last
time dazed and confused, the man has disappeared. She turns around to discover him standing,
blocking her only exit. He grabs her by the neck pushing her to the wall, she fights to escape but is
overcome and stabbed multiple times. Left for dead.
4. DESCRIPTION OF CHARACTERS
• Kris – A young, stereotypical, attractive, blonde girl who is going through a
rough patch with her boyfriend, James. She makes stupid mistakes which
ultimately cause her to lose her life.
• James – Kris’s boyfriend, also young and attractive. Has anger issues and
comes across as aggressive and intimidating.
• The masked killer – wears a transparent mask with a happy facial
expression painted over, his costume is all black to remain his hidden
identity. The weapon he wields is a large hunting knife.
5. LOCATIONS
• I will be using my house as the prime location of my production. The
sequence will take place at night. My target is to create a sense of false
security by using a domestic home as the setting which most people
assume is the safest place. The house is large with many windows giving a
feeling of vulnerability and no privacy. I will be using the exterior of my
house for the second half of my production in which the female character
will be running outside, fleeing from the masked killer.
