2. The opening titles of the 2004 film ‘Dawn of the Dead’ depict a time skip short
version of the events which leading up to and shortly after the zombie apocalypse
started. They start off by using short and loud clips off the first zombies starting to
appear. This is then interrupted by the credits and titles against a black background
which turn into blood which drips away. This sets up the film very well and also
gives the audience context before the beginning of the film so they can understand
the world and the impact the zombie apocalypse has had.
3. The Blair Witch Project
The title sequence of ‘The Blair Witch Project’ is very dramatic and
establishes the theme of the film straight away. The use of the
handheld camera shots and ‘found footage’ camera shots are a good
way to establish the film as the film is told from this perspective.
It also creates a sense of unease and tension early on in the film.
The use of motion blur and haze mixed with a dark and mysterious
setting establishes a creepy setting.
4. World War Z
The titles sequence of World War Z shows a progressive time skip of the events leading up
to the film. The sequence starts with wide long shots which last an average duration of
around 4-5 seconds. However, as the zombie virus starts to spread and make the news
more the intro becomes more hectic and chaotic. In this sound is used very appropriately
and dramatically as it gains speed and becomes louder. This is coincided with a change in
shot types with more close-up shots which last 2 seconds at maximum. All throughout the
titles are written against a black background which fills a section of the screen. The intro
ends with video footage of the news transforming into the title of the film. Whilst this is
happening the music reaching its most powerful point.
