REGIONAL PLANNING AND DEVELOVPMENT • A case study of Damodar valley region • JAGAN.SHETTAR • IDS. MYSORE
Location of damodar river basin It is located in Gangatic plane of north India, covers 25,000 sq. kms between the states of Bihar (now Jharkhand) & West Bengal.
Objectives • Flood control • Promotion and operation of schemes for irrigation • Water supply for industrial and domestic use • Navigation and drainage • Generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy • Promotion of aforestation and control of soil erosion in valley area • Promotion of public health, agriculture, industrial, economic and general well being in Damodar Valley.
