Any FACT that can be recorded
What is a FACT then?
fact - a thing that is known or proved to be true

• Text  Name,address etc
• Numbers Mobileno,Houseno,Idno etc
• Images
• Videos
• Speech
All the above facts when it is recorded it is
called data.

4. What is a Database?
Database is a collection of related Data
or
A database is an organized collection of data,
generally stored and accessed electronically from a
computer system.
Database which holds only :
• Text & Number is called Traditional Database
• Images,Videos,Audios is called Multimedia database.
• Geographic data is called Spatial database
• Online transactional data is called Real time database

(DBMS)?
A set of programs which is used to Define,
Construct and Manipulate the database is
called DBMS
(or)
A software to create databases and to store,
manage, change, search, and extract the
information contained within them is called
DBMS.

Software
Database software used to protect the information
in the database and ensure that it’s both accurate
and consistent.

• A relational database is based on the model
invented by IBM’s E.F. Codd in the 1970s.
• Relational databases, use Structured Querying
Language (SQL).
• They present data in tabular form (i.e. as a
collection of tables with each table consisting
of a set of columns and rows) and provide
relational operators to manipulate data in
tabular form.

• A non-relational database is modeled by means
other than the tabular system used in the
relational database.
• A major advantage of the non-relational

store all kinds of Big Data, including
unstructured and semi-structured data.
