1. Proposal
What is your story ?
My story is “The Dragon Princess”. It tells the tale of a great war between the dragons and
humans, started when the evil king of the dragons steals the emperor of China’s newborn
daughter. The war is long and bloody, the men wiping all dragons from the face of the earth
except one, the dragon king, who retreats underground into hiding with the baby princess. The
Emperor and empress are consumed with sadness and it was too much for the Empress who dies
shortly after believing her daughter was lost forever. In desperation, the king releases word of a
reward for anyone who can rescue his daughter and kill the dragon king, many years later a young
samurai hears of the quest and sets off in search of the dragon realm. Eventually he finds the
entrance, a huge endless hole in the ground, he scales down it and finds the Dragon king’s cavern,
defeating him and rescuing the princess. When they emerge at the surface together the Emperor
and princess are reunited once more. The samurai refuses his money reward and asks for the
princesses’ hand instead. The emperor agrees and they are married, living happily ever after.
What product are you going to make?
I am going top make a graphic novel.
Who is your audience?
My target audience could be anyone over the age of 15 but I believe will largely consist of
people around the age of 15-25. This is because of the form of the publication being a
graphic novel usually read by people of around this age and fans of graphic novels in
general could be interested in my publication. This makes them a good group of people to
target as my audience. People who enjoy Chinese folk tales and legends may be
interested in this type of story and also because I will be gaining some inspiration from
manga and anime animation fans of these genres may have an interest in my graphic
novel.
2. What methods will you use to make the product?
To make this product I am going to mainly illustrate my images as I believe this gives me more
freedom because I am not affected by the constraints of a piece of computer software. The
illustrations may be enough but I ma decide to also scan them onto the computer and enhance the
colour of my images depending on how good this looks.
