Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, By J. K.
As Helen Keller once said, "Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the
light." Friendship is the kindling to the fire of happiness, without it your happiness may diminish. In
the novel, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban authored by J.K. Rowling, the protagonist
Harry Potter, has a very close friend named Ron Weasly. Together, they exhibit the true meaning of
rapport. One case of their association is when, they had their official introductory in their first year
attending, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Since then, both of them have stuck
together through thick and thin and never leave each other's side. Through teamwork and
cooperation they have overcome many unimaginable trials. For example,

The Importance Of Friendship In The School Stories
The school story is an important, recurring sub–genre of children's literature, and is specifically
rooted in British culture, where boarding school are more common and provide an enclosed, secular
setting to the characters' adventures, often becoming a character in its own right, and acting as a
stage for the protagonists to grow, learn, fit in or stand out, deal with and challenge authority. The
hero is rarely alone; surrounded by the opposing and balancing forces of responsible adults and
mischievous peers. From Tyke Tyler's Danny Price to Harry Potter's Hermione Granger and Ron
Weasley, friends in the school story are the centre of the protagonist's world, providers of balance,
perspective, conflict and support. For the young reader, these friendships suggest the need for
company and intimacy in order to succeed at school and in life, and can even be seen as guidelines
showing children how to fit in and strike their own friendships. While this effect on the reader's life
can be seen as positive, providing them with positive role models and examples of kindness and
sharing, literary friendships often reveal, upon closer analysis, some darker and somewhat unhealthy
dynamics. For young readers, stories act as a window to the world, and often an example to follow.
The struggles and successes their characters go through become a way to identify, empathize and
learn. The school story, with its strong representation of friendship and early social life, can thus
help their

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
If someone asked me at the age of five if I liked reading, I would have laughed in their face. I was
like many other kids and only read a book when forced. I had favorites of course, for example
Goosebumps and Junie B. Jones novels were my go to reads for school projects or library reading
contests. If I had no incentive, however, I would not pick up a book for pleasure. This all changed
when I was in the third grade. One night my dad came home from work and he had a surprise for
me. It was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The third book in the Harry Potter series
looked large and seemedaunting. I was used to small books meant for young kids, and this one was
aimed at an older age group. My dad made a deal with me. If I read the book the whole way
through, he would take me to see it in theaters when it came out in 2 months. I had seen the last two
movies and was a fan, but this seemed difficult. In the end I decided to take him up on his challenge
and it was one of the best decisions of my childhood. I read the book and became instantly
enthralled in the story. As soon as I finished the novel I wanted to read more. In no time at all I own
the every released Harry Potter book there was.
From this point until around seventh grade, I would spend most of my free time reading. After
school I would come home, curl up in my bed (usually with a cup of hot, sweetened tea) and dive
into the series. More books were getting released and my addiction to the Harry Potter series

The Chocolate War, By Robert Cormier And Harry Potter And...
The purpose of fiction is not solely enjoyment. Fictional works are falsehoods that reveal truths in a
more entertaining fashion than non–fiction. The reality is that fiction captures people's attention
beyond simply reading, by illustrating disturbing truths. The mystery is solved by playing with the
reader's emotions, leading them to take a different perspective on the view of the world. Three
novels show how easily individual choices made out of fear can lead to a repressive government like
that of Nazi Germany. The first two novels The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier and Harry Potter
and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling, act as a warning, to show the dangers of a repressive
social system and how individuals are conforming out of fear in exchange for stability. The end
result is a world with no individuality and free will, represented in Brave New World, by Aldous
Huxley, the World State has genetically engineered their population and from the birth are being
structured, so only few are capable of free thought, and then peer pressure and soma keep those in
society stability. The common thought during the 1970s, when The Chocolate War was published,
shares logic with psychological experiments that had been conducted – how ordinary people are
capable of evil in certain situations. Psychologist Philip Zimbardo conducted the Stanford Prison
Experiment, where "normal college students were randomly assigned to play the role of guard or
inmate for two weeks in a

Similarities Between Beowulf And Harry Potter
It is truly amazing to compare and contrast literature from today with literature from centuries ago,
and find out just how similar they can be even though they are so different. Two stories that display
this relationship very clearly are The Mwindo Epic and Harry Potter. Both of these stories have
many similar themes such as prophecies of birth, threat at infancy, magic and special abilities, and
so much more. Even though they have so many similarities, these stories have completely different
plots, such as the fact that in The Mwindo Epic, Mwindo's attacker is his own father, while in Harry
Potter, his attacker kills his father, and is a complete stranger. For these stories to be separated by so
many years, it is quite interesting for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nyamwindo, Mwindo's mother, tries to hide her son from Shemwindo for obvious reasons.
Unfortunately, a cricket tells Shemwindo about Mwindo and he decides to kill him. He tries three
times, first by throwing spears at him, then burying him alive, and finally he seals him in a drum and
dumps him into a river. If this isn't bad enough, the river that Mwindo is floating down happens to
lead to the pool of Mukiti, and he eventually ends up there. Mukiti challenges Mwindo, but Iyangura
saves him from the drum. Kasiyembe also attempts to kill Mwindo but is unsuccessful. Mwindo had
a rough infancy where many different people tried to kill him for no reason, much like Harry Potter.
Harry Potter also deals with many different people trying to kill him as a child. The first time this
happened was when he was still an infant and Voldemort kills his mother and father, and ultimately
tries to kill him. Just like Mwindo, Voldemort is unsuccessful, and Harry is safe for many years.
Throughout his childhood he is safe, but when he returns to the wizarding world, he is in constant
danger, and Voldemort, along with his followers, attempt to kill Harry. Both of these characters have
a rough infancy and childhood, constantly having people trying to kill them, and this is just another
similarity these two stories have.
One similarity I find particularly interesting between these stories is the fact that both characters
possess magical abilities, and

Prisoner Of Azkaban Essay
Many characters in Prisoner of Azkaban stand out as father figures to Harry. Each male figure has a
different trait that Harry can look up to or admire. These people teach harry valuable lessons
throughout the book. Sirius Black teaches Harry about devotion and Remus Lupin teaches Harry
about the power of knowledge. Remus Lupin is one of the many father figures harry Potter has in
Prisoner of Azkaban. Lupin shows Harry Potter that knowledge is very important. Lupin says that
with knowledge, comes power. Lupin was bitten by a wolf when he was younger. Each full moon,
Lupin disappears in order to get away from people because he becomes a wolf. He does not want to

It was only fitting to have Black named this. He was the man that ran the show and performed
pranks when he was younger and friends with James Potter. Sirius Black had some trouble when he
was young but it was not because his emotions got out of control. Sirius Black controlled his
emotions very well. Without the superior control of his emotions, Sirius Black would never had
made it out of the prison. The dementors would have sucked the happiness from Sirius Black's life
and made him uncontrollable. But with the devotion Black had to his godfather, Black could control
his emotions and survive the prison. Harry is given a gift of a new broomstick during The Prisoner
of Azkaban, and has no idea who it is from. At the end of the book, it is revealed that Sirius Black
had gifted it to him. This shows the true spirit of devotion. It may be a minor part of the book but it
helped Harry do a lot of things, like win his quidditch matches. At this time also, Sirius invites
Harry to live with him since he is now a free man. Harry is excited to live with his godfather. There
was no way HArry could go back to the Dursley's household. Sirius could help Harry learn more
magic and truly become a father figure for

Book And Movie Comparison: The Prisoner Of Azkaban
I really enjoyed both the movie and the book of the Prisoner of Azkaban, that be said there was quite
a few stuff left out of the film that I would have liked to be include in the film. I really enjoyed the
movie more than the book though. The actors used to portray Ron Hermione and harry were perfect
for the role. Emma Watson did a fantastic job in her acting and her beauty. In the films defense, it is
default to have the books events word for word. It is just too hard to deliver a film in which
someone says reaches their expectations.
In the beginning of the book harry receives a birthday gift, which consist of newspaper clipping
form the Daily Prophet. The daily Prophet is wizard newspaper at Hogwarts. What is even worse is
that in the movie they don't talk about the clipping being at all a birthday present for harry. I find it
weird because it never fails but every year he so sort of gift, like the cloke, and the owl. It takes
away authenticity from the books. It would have made the movie watcher feel more satisfied with
the movie. I find it kind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book they talk about the secret keepers, mostly about James Potter, Sirus Black, Peter
Pettigrew, and Remus Lupin. They were in a group call the marauders. They all had an animagus,
and it explains what each Member transformed into. The book also lets the reader know who the
secret keepers were, and the specific people they held the secrets for. It goes into great detail who
James and Lilly potter's secret keeper was. It talks about how Sirus Black had to give up the role in
fear that voldemort was on to him. He then passes the role onto Peter Pettigrew. The movie does
close to nothing on this topic. It does not talk about the marauders or their origins. This makes the
reader of the book a lot more clearly as far as what is going on. It gives the reader a sense of closure.
They movie leaves the viewer high and dry in certain way, making you feel

Conflict of Ron and Hermione in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
India Afriyie
Conflict and Negotiation is the study of conflicts and how to work through them in a productive
way. These lessons are important in a workplace and in life because it helps you understand how
conflicts are created and how to approach different ones. The value in these lessons is that they can
be used to effectively in interpersonal relationships. In everyday life there are always conflict
between family, friends, and co–workers. With a class in conflict and negotiation you're able to gain
skills and knowledge that help you confidently and effectively solve problems. In our current social
climate there are a lot of clashing opinions and ideas. Without the correct knowledge of how to
handle a conflict we will never be able to come to a consensus on any issue.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K Rowling is the third installment of the worldwide
smash–hit Harry Potter series. In the story many of the characters experience sub–conflicts from the
main conflict. One of the longest running conflicts of the story was between Ron Weasley and
Hermione Granger. Before the conflict between Ron and Hermione begins it is known that they have
a virtue friendship. Aristotle describes a "true friendship/virtue friends as having "mutual affection,
mutual recognition and mutual valuing."(Rocket.csusb.edu, 2017) The adventures that they've been

The Importance Of Animal Rights
Have you ever considered the rights of animals? Do they have any rights?.According to an article
called "Animal Rights" it is proven that if animals had rights there wouldn't be no experiments on
animals, no breeding and killing of animals for food however, all of these examples are sadly used
today that provides evidence to prove that animals do not have rights. To emphasise that animals do
not have rights, it is also proven in the book "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" with
animals such as Crookshanks and Buckbeak that do not have animal rights due to the facts that both
animals are misjudged and automatically assumed guilty when something wrong occurs or when an
accusation is made and both are treated with no respect. Crookshanks and Buckbeak do not have
rights as a result of the two being misjudged and automatically assumed guilty when something goes
wrong, unable to defend themselves they are treated with a punishment or treated unjustly after the
accusation is made. For example in the book "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" Buckbeak
is taken to a lesson with Hagrid and Hagrid clearly states to his students that hippogriffs are easily
offended. When its Malfoy turn, he decides to say that Buckbeak is a "great ugly brute" and
Buckbeak reacts, later Malfoy goes on to fake an injury and tells his father. The situation becomes so
serious that it is taken to the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures where one of the

A Short Story : A Story?
Hermione observed the tiny scene over at the Slytherin table. The teachers did not seem to notice
what was occurring at the moment or maybe they do notice but they want to watch. Harry and Ron
were whispering about how it's early to get engaged. She couldn't agree more. They're in seventh
year. They should at least wait till they have a job to pop the question. Her thoughts were somehow
cut off by Pansy, throwing a tantrum. "I can't believe you, Draco. I loved you, I did everything I can
just to make you happy. This's how you repay me?" Draco shakes his head. "It's not like–" "That's
what they all say." Just then, everyone watched Astoria as she angrily strutted down the table. "If I
were you, I would stay away." Pansy growled. "You can't tell me what to do, Astoria. You certainly
cannot tell me to stay away from my boyfriend!" Draco cleared his throat. "Actually–" "Stay out of
this!" Astoria ordered. She pushed Draco out of the way and, then got close to Pansy's face. "Stay
away!" In one swift movement, Pansy slapped Astoria. Before either one of them can make another
move, the Headmistress arrived at their table. "Miss Parkinson, Miss Greengrass and Mister
Malfoy!" "Y–Yes?" Draco stammered. "Care to explain?" She eyed all three of them before locking
eyes with the pug–faced–girl. "Miss Parkinson, would you care to explain what happened here?"
She nodded nervously. "I heard both of them are getting married," she nudged

Grief In The Book Thief And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
While grief is a central theme to both The Book Thief and The Prisoner of Azkaban, the novels have
a disagreement about what grief looks like. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban supports the
idea of a five stage cycle of grief, as theorized by Kubler and Ross. In contrast, The Book Thief does
not focus on stages of grief. Instead, the novel takes a look at a duo–faceted idea of grief, which are
pain and anger. The two novels are inherently different because of who their narrators are; Death is
the narrator of Zusak's novel, and a Rowling's narrator for the story is a presumably human third
party. Grief in The Book Thief is very atypical to what many describe it as, whereas The Prisoner of
Azkaban shows the grieving process as cyclic as typically theorized.
Grief in The Book Thief has almost an uninvolved view of grief. The novel focuses on the events
that result in grief itself, but do not follow up on grief as a continuing process. In most events within
the novel, Death, the narrator, discusses what happens to Liesel and how she breaks down in that
moment. In the excerpt examined from Part 5, "The Showdown: June 24", Liesel is first described
as feeling extreme pain over her mother being let go by the Mayor and his wife from her clothes
washing services (Zusak, 260). Later on, the narrator says "Her sadness left her and she was
overwhelmed with anger." (261). For the remainder of the chapter, Liesel stays angry, even going as
so far to tell Isla, the mayor's wife, off (262–263). After this point, her anger and grief over her
mother losing her last client (260) is not mentioned again. The grief, in the eyes of the narrator,
seems to stay in that singular moment, and does not impact any future choices. Even later on in the
book, when everyone she loves dies as the result of a bombing, the readers only see her grief in the
moment, and nothing beyond it (538). In contrast, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban shows
grief in a very cyclic and continuing process. The five stages of grief, as theorized by Kubler and
Ross, is as follows: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance (Smaldone and Uzzo,
425). The cycle is more visible when looking at the Harry Potter series as a whole, but cycles

Harry Potter Prisoner Of Azkaban Themes
Major themes in the series Harry Potter are constantly changing throughout the books, and Rowling
does an excellent job of making each blend into the story. In the book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner
of Azkaban, Rowling starts to explore some more unnerving themes such as the gray area between
good and evil. She uses themes in this book to catapult the series from just being another set of 'kids'
books, to a work of art that goes to include ideas of everyday life. Rowling places Harry deep in the
center of a conspiracy between two sides and goes the whole book not knowing the truth until the
end. In chapter seventeen, it is revealed that Scabbers is really Peter Pettigrew which causes Harry
to figure out what really happened and who really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For most of the first part of the book Rowling has us believing that Sirius Black is bad and is trying
to kill Harry. Rowling does a really good job at re–directing the reader's hate towards Black so that
she can blindside them later. This allows Rowling some wiggle room to let her explore more of
Harry's past and how the wizarding world acts. Nearly all of the wizarding world is afraid of Black,
but that is only because they have been fed false information. The knowledge that Black isn't as bad
as everyone says he is comes about in the seventeenth chapter of the book, when Black and our
heroes meet face to face. Rowling doesn't allow Harry to accept that Peter Pettigrew is actually the
one that got his parents killed. Of course Harry doesn't want to believe this as he have just spent the
entire year in fear of Black coming to kill him. Now he is there and is telling Harry not to believe
what everyone is saying. This shows Rowling has been using that area between good and evil; a
naturally occurring feeling of mystery

Did you know that the moon has eight phases every month? It spins around the earth slowly, and the
position that the moon is in and can be seen from is one phase. One of those phases is called the full
moon. That is when the entire illuminated side of the moon is facing Earth. That happens once a
month. As you already know, werewolves are humans that shift into uncontrollable wolves once a
month, during the night of the full moon. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, this happens.
They had developed a potion that a werewolf would take before the full moon, in its human form,
and then when the werewolf turns, it would turn into a lethargic, slumberous, harmless wolf. This

One moral issue found in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban revolves around the Fifth
commandment. The Fifth Commandment is, "You shall not kill"(Saint Mary's Press 185). This
commandment means that Christians should not kill another human(murder, abortion, etc.),
regardless of the matter. Also, any words or actions that can cause harm to another is a violation of
the Fifth commandment(Saint Mary's Press 187). In the Rich Young Man Parable, Jesus emphasizes
the importance of keeping the commandments. He claims that to entire eternal life, people must

However, Bellatrix was a servant who followed around Voldemort all the time and was deeply

four topics that are used in this essay are person v.s nature, person v.s nature, person v.s self, and

there is a troubling conflict between the two or more people involved. The reason why most people

In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling, there is a lot of evidence supporting
the fact that Harry Potter often does things that are risky or could get him in trouble. However, they
tend to work out for him in the end because he has help and resources.
For example, on page 195, Harry Potter goes through the secret passage to Honeydukes, even
though once he is there, there is a high chance that he will get caught. This could get him in trouble
because he is not supposed to go into Hogsmeade because his aunt and uncle did not sign his
permission form. It is also risky to go to Hogsmeade because people believe that Sirius Black is
trying to find and kill Harry.
Another example of this is on page 327 when Harry, Hermione,

serves to accentuate Hagrid's maternal role throughout the series. Hagrid serves not only as a mother
to these dangerous, isolated magical creatures, but he also serves as a maternal figure to Harry who
shows some of the same characteristics. Throughout the series, there are several points where Harry
is seen as dangerous. For example, in The Chamber of Secrets, Harry is suspected to be the heir of
Slytherin because he can speak parseltongue, and everybody thinks he is dangerous. Also, in the
fifth book, The Daily Prophet promotes that Harry and Dumbledore are dangerous and manipulative
because they're trying to draw attention to the fact that Lord Voldemort had returned. The Care of
Magical Creatures class formed many other connections with characters, but it also connects to and
shows several real–world political styles.
It was mentioned earlier that this magical institution connects not only to the characters and events
throughout the Harry Potter series, but also to real–world political styles and lessons. One of the
real–world political styles that the Care of Magical Creatures class exemplifies is that of populism.
The populist political style is exemplified through the intervention of the Ministry of Magic in the
incident between Draco Malfoy and Buckbeak. Normally the Ministry will not interfere if a student
gets injured. For example, when Harry's arm was broken because of his jinxed broom, the Ministry
never jumped in to try and solve what happened or to inflict a

What worse punishment could there be besides Azkaban? Perhaps this one, which I am so
unwillingly partaking in. The Ministry of Magic knows exactly how to agitate me. Apparently I can't
be sent back to Azkaban due to my levels of insanity, which isn't my fault because they LEFT ME
IN THERE FOR FIFTEEN YEARS. They must've realized that locking me up only made me
stronger and my undying loyalty to the Dark Lord would not, nor will ever cease to exist. So, as my
punishment they decide to give me the most wretched, pain–staking, heartless punishment ever
conceived; I have to write a blog. I would rather place the cruciatus curse on myself instead of
participating in this muggle activity. I don't even know what a "blog" is. They tell me to write about
my day as if it's some kind of story?? I WILL NOT BE TAKEN AS SOME SORT OF FAIRYTALE.
My days are nothing more than wishing for Harry Potter to be DEAD – I mean – wishing for the
best of days for everyone. However, seeing as this is my punishment for however long (maybe even
forever), I will give "blogging" a try, though I WILL NOT be acknowledging that it has anything do
with muggles whatsoever. That's something that a mudblood like ... Show more content on

I did, however, leave him with a mess in his trousers and that was plenty fun. I should get the Dark

Determinism And Free Will In Harry Potter And The Prisoner...
The controversy of whether the doctrine of determinism or free will guides us throughout our life is
constantly debated. Is there a superior being that determines everything that occurs, or are humans
free to do whatever they choose? In stories, the collaboration of fate and free will propels the actions
of characters throughout the plot. In J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, there
is a certain fate ordained, but there is free will that brings the characters to their fates. On the
contrary, the chorus of Euripides' Medea states "the gods find a way, against all expectation, to do
what they want...And that is exactly how this case turned out" (Euripides 1467–1469), suggesting
that whatever Medea does is constrained the the fate determined by the gods. That she enacts the
judgement of the gods is what she considers the bindings of fate, but under the lens of Harry Potter,
Rowling would treat this as free will that endows fate.
The notion that there is a superior force that decides fate is present in the novel and the play,
although the extent of this power contrasts. Dumbledore acts as a semi–god figure in Harry Potter,
determining the fates of Buckbeak and Sirius Black by pushing Hermione and Harry to use the Time
Turner. Had he not opened up this possibility to them, the salvation of the doomed characters would
not have been possible. As the events unfold with the time travel, Buckbeak's liberation from
execution leads Dumbledore to remark "How

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry potter and the prisoner of Azkaban is an excellent book. Out of ten stars I would rate this one
an eight because it was to short. Once you get into it and finish it. It seems so short, because it is so
interesting. Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban starts out with a bang. In the beginning Sirius
black a Man accused of thirteen murders in one night escapes from Azkaban.( A wizard prison
guarded to the tee by dementors, deadly spirits that feast on anything happy. Basically they suck the
life out of you slowly until you go mad and lose sanity). Harry runs away on the same night and
crosses the man without realizing it. Since Sirius is an ananamugus he is able to turn into a giant

They then tell Harry to be careful with his actions. Later on in the story Harry and his friends get
lead outside to a secret shack because of a screaming that they hear. In the shack they confront
Sirius the man accused of killing Harry's mom and dad and they try to capture him. Sirius tries to
explain to Harry and the gang the truth but does not get through to them because of Harry's anger
and rage. With a little help from surprise visitors Harry realizes the truth and his judgment changes
toward Sirius. Sirius tells him he was tricked and that he was partly responsible for their death. But
he would do anything to change the past. He was then appointed Harry's stepfather. After another
scuffle Sirius is caught and taken up to Hogwarts dungeon where he was to be executed by a
dementors kiss (in which the soul is sucked out through the mouth). Dumbledore knows the truth
and helps Harry save Sirius. Sirius leaves for a hiding place and their he resides until his death in the
5th book. The conflict in this story was trying to find Sirius and find the truth. It is solved when
Harry finds him and discovers the truth.
The story takes place in Hogwarts School in present time, England.
Question
What character can you relate to and why?
I think I can relate to Harry as well as everyone else can because the author gives Harry problems
and attributes that everyone has. For instant Harry tries to be sneaky many times in the story.

screamed falling onto the cold hard floor. "You know, most people nudge the person they want to

it would be funny. And I was right" Ginny giggled helping Hermione up. Hermione just huffed then
walked away to get ready for the school day. "So what do you think of this new student Rose?"
Hermione asked Ginny walking down the stairs to the common room. "I don 't really know, all I

anxiously asked. "Well we don 't exactly know, this is our first year having one, but I guessing it will
around lunch time," Hermione said, looking at the rest of her friends knowing they know they got
in, "Well we 'll worry about that later, for now let 's get to class before Professor Flitwick has our
heads," Harry chuckled. For Hermione the first few classes dragged on. Flitwick just reviewed what
they already learned from their sixth year. Potions with Slughorn was the same way but they
reviewed safety for when making potions. And Herbology well... It 's Herbology. It was a relief for
her when they were dismissed for lunch. Just as Hermione assumed the list for who was in the Glee
Club was up on the bulletin board outside the great hall. She 's pushed her way through the crowed

Heroism And Villains In Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of...
How Reader Positioning Techniques are used to depict Heroism and Villains in the Children's
Books; 'Matilda' and 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'.
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to determine how reader positioning such as characterisation and point
of view, can help depict heroes and villains within a text. Children's literature includes a variety of
text such as picture books, stories, novels, poems and magazines that are greatly enjoyed by
children. This is generalised through the appropriate genres aimed for younger readers or the
envisioned age range (Lukens et al 2010, p. 6–8).
The influence of literature techniques such as reader positioning plays a massive influence on how
viewers conceive certain characters within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to the overpowering thoughts and feelings of the narrator's broad outlook, narrowing the
experience of the reader. This restriction placed on individuals make it hard to relate and form a
bond with the protagonist, limiting the connection between the narrator and the reader (Papazian. G,
2010). "This can mean pushing certain values or opposing socially dominant ones, depending on the
writer" (Stephens 1992, p.3–9). This is attributable to the impersonal and objective point of view,
making it hard for readers to determine what type of person the character is.
Conclusion
J.K Rowling and Roald Dahl both successfully use literary techniques derived from reader
positioning, expressing to readers on how to identify heroes and villains. This is achieved through
point of view and characterisation of the protagonists and the antagonists. Limitations show that this
can indeed be overlooked and in turn can ultimately backfire on the narrator. This leads to the
speaker being incapable of providing personal information about themselves, making it difficult for
readers to describe what kind of individual the narrator is due to the omniscient and objective

Hermione Granger Research Paper
Hermione Granger Hermione Granger is one of the main characters in the Harry Potter books and
movies. She shows women and girls that it is okay if you're smart and outgoing "Actually I'm highly
logical which allows me to look past extraneous detail and perceive clearly that which others
overlook." (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Rowling). She also shows people she is not
afraid to be herself "Me? Books and cleverness. there are more important things: Friendship and
Bravery." (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Rowling). That is why I think she is one of the
most influential characters in any book or movie. I believe she has been one of the best role models

She is not afraid to help or save a friend that is in danger even if she is risking her own life. This is
what she said to prove to you that she is not afraid to put her life in danger for her friends, "If you
want to kill Harry, you have to kill us too."(Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Rowling).
Another brave thing she said and did was when she said, "You! You foul, loathsome, evil little
cockroach." then punched Draco in the nose (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Rowling). I
thought it was brave because she wasn't worried about the consequences, she just did what she
thought she had to do. This is why I think she is the bravest character in the books and movies.
Hermione is one of the best friends you could ever have. She is loyal, courageous, and just a great
friend in general. She said "We're coming with you, that was decided months ago, years really."
Only a true friend would say that (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Rowling). My favorite
thing she said was "I'll come with you," even though it would mean that she would be sacrificing
herself to be with her best friend (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Rowling). I would say
Hermione Granger is the best friend you could ever

Analysis Of Harry Potter And Dumbledore
In this film critique, I will be analyzing the first half of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. The
film starts out on Privet Drive in the dark of night emphasizing something dark but important is
about to happen. Dumbledore is standing under a street light and is using magic to put the rest of the
street lights out when he notices a cat, who quickly transforms into Professor McGonagall. The
darkness and low voices emphasize danger and suspense. The character who plays Professor
Dumbledore, Richard Harris, is a perfect because of his voice and composure, he goes along
perfectly with the book! His presence demands respect and his composure makes him seem wise.
The same goes for the Dursley family; Aunt Petunia, Fiona Shaw, is a sharp/crinkle nosed, rude
looking skinny woman, Uncle Vernon, Richard Griffiths, is fat and boastful showing he's a horrible
person, Dudley, Harry Melling, is a short, fat and pig like looking boy his dad with the attitude
combination of both parents, creating a monster of a child. Daniel Ratcliffe is perfect for the part of
Harry Potter because he's small, skinny, you would never suspect anything abnormal by just looking
at him.
Harry lives under the stairs at the Dursley with a lock on the outside of the cabinet and slot just big
enough for a dinner plate. This emphasizes the Dursleys feelings about Harry being there. Harry
receives his first letter from Hogwarts, the look on Uncle Vernons face shows deep concern, almost
like frightened.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
Sirius Black was sent to Azkaban in the fall of 1981. The Ministry of Magic had him placed there
with no trial. Did anyone ever ask Sirius if he was innocent. In the young adult novel Harry Potter
and the Prisoner of Azkaban, was there enough evidence to send Sirius Black away for twelve years
without a trial becuase of who his family was, the death of Pettigrew, the death of the twelve
muggles, and his betrayel to the Potters. Sirius Black was born in the autmn of 1959. He was the
eldest son of Orion and Walburga Black. He was heir to Black family fortune (House of Black). He
was also the great–grandson of former Hogwarts Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black. The whole
Black family believed in purfication of wizarding race, pure blood rule, and not allowing muggle
borns in the wizarding race. Like the Lestrange and Malfoy families, the Black family is
synonymous with high status and wealth. The Black family was most affialated with the house of
Slytherin, the exception was Sirius Black. Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor house. Sirius ' cousin,
Bellatrix Black Lestrange was a known supporter of Voldemort. She was a known female
Deatheater, as well as among the most dangerous of Voldemort 's followers. Regulus Black was the
younger brother of Sirus Black. He was also a deatheater in his youth, but he left from the group

Sci Fi And Fantasy Stories Philosophers And Physicists
Time is a complex topic. One that only seems to be tackled by the authors of Sci–Fi and Fantasy
stories philosophers and physicists. Whether it's a book, movie, or show we seem to only be able to
talk and theorize about time in the abstract. Though this idea is less prevalent in the Harry Potter
series, it is still important and raises a lot of questions. Is time simply the ticking hands on the clock
or is it more complicated than that? We go through life talking about time as if it's a simple idea:
there is a cause. which creates an effect and this continues in a never–ending cycle. What if it's not
that simple? If we are working under the belief that time travel is possible, then it would have to be
a little bit more complicated than that. Now granted I have not yet had the honor of going backwards
nor forwards in time. Nor do I know anyone that has moved from their own timeline, but just
because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it's not possible. Remember people also didn't think we
could put a man on the moon, but NASA proved them all wrong. Time Travel may not have
happened yet but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen in the future. Deutsch and Lockwood
explain that time travel is in fact scientifically possible. In the Quantum Physics of Time Travel they
use Einstein's theory of relativity as well as several other theories to explain that time travel is
actually a scientific possibility (Deutsch and Lockwood). Although until it happens there is no way

How Does Astronomy Affect The Prisoner Of Azkaban?
Astronomy plays a huge factor during the Prisoner of Azkaban when when Professor Lupin turns
into a werewolf in front of Harry, Hermione and Ron. It was late a night, the full moon covered by
clouds preventing professor Lupin from transforming. As the clouds disperse and the light from the
full moon hits Lupin the transformation begins. When it comes to lycanthropy the moon plays a
large part into the transformation of the afflicted. If there had not been a full moon durning this
scene than the story line would not have been able to progress in the way it did; there would not
have been that distraction for Peter Pettigrew to run away.
The full moon occurs when the moon is illuminated when seen by the earth. This happens when the
sun is directly

Double In Macbeth
Double, Double
Candles float gracefully above the tables as children sing in a choir as a prelude to a feast. Three
witches dance ominously around a cauldron, conjuring something dark and not of this world. There
is, in fact, a common theme between these two images – the presence of the famed witches' spell
"Double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble" (Shakespeare 4.1.10–11) from The
Tragedy of Macbeth and witchcraft. The singing of the witches' words in Harry Potter and the
Prisoner of Azkaban is a highly ironic statement about perception of witchcraft and provides a
contrast in views of magic.
In the time of Shakespeare, magic, and by extension, witches were inherently evil. Any mention of
witchcraft would immediately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scene most likely would not be remembered at all. Understanding the allusion gives the scene
increased depth and shows the conflicting perceptions of magic. Once it becomes apparent that the
song is from evil witches who were conjuring spirits, the whole scene becomes dark and highly
ironic. These children are singing a song about a dark form of witchcraft in a school dedicated to a
much less harmful version of witchcraft and wizardry. Most of these children, having grown up in
an environment with magic all around them, are now exposed to an outside view of their lifestyle,

his life. Sirius Black decided to sacrifice his life to save Harry Potter, and save his friends from

Comparison Of Harry Potter: The Prisoner Of Azkaban
Many books have been made into movies over the past decades. Sometimes the changes are minor
as the movies typically keep the main aspects of the book such as plot, mood and important
characters. Other times the discrepancy may be major and may take out most, if not all the key
features that made that certain book special. In Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban the movie is
able to keep many features of the book which made it widely popular and loved, but also change a
couple of ideas and add to make the parts of the book have a larger impact to the overall story for
good and worse.
Firstly, the comparisons for both movie and book are countless. The movie maintains the books
major under–lying plot of Harry realizing who truly deceived his parents the night Voldemort
attacked. In addition, the two versions aren't able to fully clear Black's name, nonetheless are still
able to let Harry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book, Sirius and Crookshanks develop a valuable and important relationship. He is able to use
Crookshanks to lure Harry, Hermione and Ron into meeting himself. This is incredibly important to
the overall plot because in this part Harry is able to learn the truth to what really happened to his
parents. In the movie, however, Sirius and Crookshanks never develop a relationship and
Crookshanks is barely mentioned and instead of Crookshanks luring the gang, the black dog quickly
attacks Ron forcing Harry and Hermonie to follow. Furthermore, since Crookshanks is not present,
he/she is unable to calm the Whomping Willow and therefore Harry and Hermonie receive
unnecessary injuries. Also, while Harry plays his Quidditich match Sirius Black never shows up in
the movie unlike in the book. The setting changes massively in the book as Harry is potentially
nervous and scared hence changing the mood from a fun and exciting setting into a dangerous and

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
"Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest
places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around
them. Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can't see them" (Rowling 187). A major factor
driving the action and theme of J.K. Rowling's third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban, is the element of fear represented by the dementors upon the magical community and the
terror felt when witches and wizards were threatened by the Dementor's horrific Kiss. In the scene
(246–248) where Harry Potter and Professor Lupin are having a drink at the "Three Broomsticks"
tavern, Harry decides to ask about the dementors and the Dementor's Kiss. This scene is important
because it ties together all the previous information about the dementors, and emphasizes how
negatively they epitomize the forces of evil in the magical community, in which Harry Potter and
other witches and wizards live. Harry says to Professor Lupin "What is under the dementor's hood?"
(Rowling 246), the professor's answer is both truthful and frightening. Professor Lupin mentions
that the dementors are so evil that even the Muggle community fears their presence, but cannot see
them or know what kind of creatures they really are, and therefore, the Muggle community is only
aware of the strange cold feeling that makes them afraid of unseen entities. However, the wizarding
community whose ability to use magic

Similarities Between Harry Potter And The Prizoner Of Azkaban
An adaptation is the act or process of adapting or being adapted; an alteration or modification.
Movie adaptations are no different as they modify the story of the book. In Harry Potter and the
Prizoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling and the film adaptation by Alfonso Cuaron, the two stories
have their own unique interpretations. Rowling's and Cuaron's Prisoner of Azkaban are similar,
however they differ, and their main themes are exceedingly specialized. An adaptation of any kind
should not be expected to be a precise representation of the original. Though the movie is an
adaptation of the book, there are still a great deal of similarities between the two. "And then the
thing beneath the hood, whatever it was, drew a long, slow, rattling breath, as though it were trying
to suck some–thing more than air from its surrounding. An intense cold swept over them all"
(Rowling 83). In the film adaptation of the book, the dementor enters the doorway, everything
quickly freezes, and it causes Harry to pass out as the air makes a sucking motion. This scene is
important in the book and the movie, as it sets up one of the conflicts of the story. The similarities

J. K. Rowling?s Portrayal of Magical Creatures in the Harry Potter Series as Compared to Creatures
in Ancient Mythology The world famous book series, Harry Potter, has been an instant success
worldwide. This series follows the life of a young boy, Harry Potter, in chronological order from the
beginning to the end of his schooling. Harry Potter is schooled at a magical school somewhere in
England, which is where the majority of the books take place. He is an adventurous boy who
experiences many different quests and journeys with his loyal friends. This book series focuses
mainly on the many magical creatures from many different types of mythology, some even including
stories with Indian, Greek, or Roman backgrounds. J. K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter
series, incorporates these magical animals into the stories? plots and help to convey several
messages about Harry Potter. The mythical creatures that are the most prominent in Rowling?s
series are the dragons and werewolves. The dragon and werewolf both have origins found in
mythology and are crucial to Rowling?s themes in the books Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, furthering the messages that Rowling is trying to portray
to her audience. In the Harry Potter series, written by J. K. Rowling, Rowling uses two specific

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, By J. K.

  • 1. Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, By J. K. As Helen Keller once said, "Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light." Friendship is the kindling to the fire of happiness, without it your happiness may diminish. In the novel, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban authored by J.K. Rowling, the protagonist Harry Potter, has a very close friend named Ron Weasly. Together, they exhibit the true meaning of rapport. One case of their association is when, they had their official introductory in their first year attending, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Since then, both of them have stuck together through thick and thin and never leave each other's side. Through teamwork and cooperation they have overcome many unimaginable trials. For example, ... • 5. The Importance Of Friendship In The School Stories The school story is an important, recurring sub–genre of children's literature, and is specifically rooted in British culture, where boarding school are more common and provide an enclosed, secular setting to the characters' adventures, often becoming a character in its own right, and acting as a stage for the protagonists to grow, learn, fit in or stand out, deal with and challenge authority. The hero is rarely alone; surrounded by the opposing and balancing forces of responsible adults and mischievous peers. From Tyke Tyler's Danny Price to Harry Potter's Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, friends in the school story are the centre of the protagonist's world, providers of balance, perspective, conflict and support. For the young reader, these friendships suggest the need for company and intimacy in order to succeed at school and in life, and can even be seen as guidelines showing children how to fit in and strike their own friendships. While this effect on the reader's life can be seen as positive, providing them with positive role models and examples of kindness and sharing, literary friendships often reveal, upon closer analysis, some darker and somewhat unhealthy dynamics. For young readers, stories act as a window to the world, and often an example to follow. The struggles and successes their characters go through become a way to identify, empathize and learn. The school story, with its strong representation of friendship and early social life, can thus help their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban If someone asked me at the age of five if I liked reading, I would have laughed in their face. I was like many other kids and only read a book when forced. I had favorites of course, for example Goosebumps and Junie B. Jones novels were my go to reads for school projects or library reading contests. If I had no incentive, however, I would not pick up a book for pleasure. This all changed when I was in the third grade. One night my dad came home from work and he had a surprise for me. It was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The third book in the Harry Potter series looked large and seemedaunting. I was used to small books meant for young kids, and this one was aimed at an older age group. My dad made a deal with me. If I read the book the whole way through, he would take me to see it in theaters when it came out in 2 months. I had seen the last two movies and was a fan, but this seemed difficult. In the end I decided to take him up on his challenge and it was one of the best decisions of my childhood. I read the book and became instantly enthralled in the story. As soon as I finished the novel I wanted to read more. In no time at all I own the every released Harry Potter book there was. From this point until around seventh grade, I would spend most of my free time reading. After school I would come home, curl up in my bed (usually with a cup of hot, sweetened tea) and dive into the series. More books were getting released and my addiction to the Harry Potter series ... • 13. The Chocolate War, By Robert Cormier And Harry Potter And... The purpose of fiction is not solely enjoyment. Fictional works are falsehoods that reveal truths in a more entertaining fashion than non–fiction. The reality is that fiction captures people's attention beyond simply reading, by illustrating disturbing truths. The mystery is solved by playing with the reader's emotions, leading them to take a different perspective on the view of the world. Three novels show how easily individual choices made out of fear can lead to a repressive government like that of Nazi Germany. The first two novels The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling, act as a warning, to show the dangers of a repressive social system and how individuals are conforming out of fear in exchange for stability. The end result is a world with no individuality and free will, represented in Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, the World State has genetically engineered their population and from the birth are being structured, so only few are capable of free thought, and then peer pressure and soma keep those in society stability. The common thought during the 1970s, when The Chocolate War was published, shares logic with psychological experiments that had been conducted – how ordinary people are capable of evil in certain situations. Psychologist Philip Zimbardo conducted the Stanford Prison Experiment, where "normal college students were randomly assigned to play the role of guard or inmate for two weeks in a ... • 17. Similarities Between Beowulf And Harry Potter It is truly amazing to compare and contrast literature from today with literature from centuries ago, and find out just how similar they can be even though they are so different. Two stories that display this relationship very clearly are The Mwindo Epic and Harry Potter. Both of these stories have many similar themes such as prophecies of birth, threat at infancy, magic and special abilities, and so much more. Even though they have so many similarities, these stories have completely different plots, such as the fact that in The Mwindo Epic, Mwindo's attacker is his own father, while in Harry Potter, his attacker kills his father, and is a complete stranger. For these stories to be separated by so many years, it is quite interesting for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nyamwindo, Mwindo's mother, tries to hide her son from Shemwindo for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, a cricket tells Shemwindo about Mwindo and he decides to kill him. He tries three times, first by throwing spears at him, then burying him alive, and finally he seals him in a drum and dumps him into a river. If this isn't bad enough, the river that Mwindo is floating down happens to lead to the pool of Mukiti, and he eventually ends up there. Mukiti challenges Mwindo, but Iyangura saves him from the drum. Kasiyembe also attempts to kill Mwindo but is unsuccessful. Mwindo had a rough infancy where many different people tried to kill him for no reason, much like Harry Potter. Harry Potter also deals with many different people trying to kill him as a child. The first time this happened was when he was still an infant and Voldemort kills his mother and father, and ultimately tries to kill him. Just like Mwindo, Voldemort is unsuccessful, and Harry is safe for many years. Throughout his childhood he is safe, but when he returns to the wizarding world, he is in constant danger, and Voldemort, along with his followers, attempt to kill Harry. Both of these characters have a rough infancy and childhood, constantly having people trying to kill them, and this is just another similarity these two stories have. One similarity I find particularly interesting between these stories is the fact that both characters possess magical abilities, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Prisoner Of Azkaban Essay Many characters in Prisoner of Azkaban stand out as father figures to Harry. Each male figure has a different trait that Harry can look up to or admire. These people teach harry valuable lessons throughout the book. Sirius Black teaches Harry about devotion and Remus Lupin teaches Harry about the power of knowledge. Remus Lupin is one of the many father figures harry Potter has in Prisoner of Azkaban. Lupin shows Harry Potter that knowledge is very important. Lupin says that with knowledge, comes power. Lupin was bitten by a wolf when he was younger. Each full moon, Lupin disappears in order to get away from people because he becomes a wolf. He does not want to hurt anybody when he is in this form. Sirius Black had some trouble when he was young but it was not because his emotions got out of control. Sirius Black controlled his emotions very well. Without the superior control of his emotions, Sirius Black would never had made it out of the prison. The dementors would have sucked the happiness from Sirius Black's life and made him uncontrollable. But with the devotion Black had to his godfather, Black could control his emotions and survive the prison. Harry is given a gift of a new broomstick during The Prisoner of Azkaban, and has no idea who it is from. At the end of the book, it is revealed that Sirius Black had gifted it to him. This shows the true spirit of devotion. It may be a minor part of the book but it helped Harry do a lot of things, like win his quidditch matches. At this time also, Sirius invites Harry to live with him since he is now a free man. Harry is excited to live with his godfather. There was no way HArry could go back to the Dursley's household. • 25. Book And Movie Comparison: The Prisoner Of Azkaban I really enjoyed both the movie and the book of the Prisoner of Azkaban, that be said there was quite a few stuff left out of the film that I would have liked to be include in the film. I really enjoyed the movie more than the book though. The actors used to portray Ron Hermione and harry were perfect for the role. Emma Watson did a fantastic job in her acting and her beauty. In the films defense, it is default to have the books events word for word. It is just too hard to deliver a film in which someone says reaches their expectations. In the beginning of the book harry receives a birthday gift, which consist of newspaper clipping form the Daily Prophet. The daily Prophet is wizard newspaper at Hogwarts. What is even worse is that in the movie they don't talk about the clipping being at all a birthday present for harry. I find it weird because it never fails but every year he so sort of gift, like the cloke, and the owl. It takes away authenticity from the books. It would have made the movie watcher feel more satisfied with the movie. I find it kind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book they talk about the secret keepers, mostly about James Potter, Sirus Black, Peter Pettigrew, and Remus Lupin. They were in a group call the marauders. They all had an animagus, and it explains what each Member transformed into. The book also lets the reader know who the secret keepers were, and the specific people they held the secrets for. It goes into great detail who James and Lilly potter's secret keeper was. It talks about how Sirus Black had to give up the role in fear that voldemort was on to him. He then passes the role onto Peter Pettigrew. The movie does close to nothing on this topic. It does not talk about the marauders or their origins. This makes the reader of the book a lot more clearly as far as what is going on. It gives the reader a sense of closure. They movie leaves the viewer high and dry in certain way, making you feel ... • 29. Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban Case Study Conflict of Ron and Hermione in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban India Afriyie Conflict and Negotiation is the study of conflicts and how to work through them in a productive way. These lessons are important in a workplace and in life because it helps you understand how conflicts are created and how to approach different ones. The value in these lessons is that they can be used to effectively in interpersonal relationships. In everyday life there are always conflict between family, friends, and co–workers. With a class in conflict and negotiation you're able to gain skills and knowledge that help you confidently and effectively solve problems. In our current social climate there are a lot of clashing opinions and ideas. Without the correct knowledge of how to handle a conflict we will never be able to come to a consensus on any issue. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K Rowling is the third installment of the worldwide smash–hit Harry Potter series. In the story many of the characters experience sub–conflicts from the main conflict. One of the longest running conflicts of the story was between Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Before the conflict between Ron and Hermione begins it is known that they have a virtue friendship. Aristotle describes a "true friendship/virtue friends as having "mutual affection, mutual recognition and mutual valuing."(Rocket.csusb.edu, 2017) The adventures that they've been through have brought them closer together so their ... • 33. The Importance Of Animal Rights Have you ever considered the rights of animals? Do they have any rights?.According to an article called "Animal Rights" it is proven that if animals had rights there wouldn't be no experiments on animals, no breeding and killing of animals for food however, all of these examples are sadly used today that provides evidence to prove that animals do not have rights. To emphasise that animals do not have rights, it is also proven in the book "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" with animals such as Crookshanks and Buckbeak that do not have animal rights due to the facts that both animals are misjudged and automatically assumed guilty when something wrong occurs or when an accusation is made and both are treated with no respect. Crookshanks and Buckbeak do not have rights as a result of the two being misjudged and automatically assumed guilty when something goes wrong, unable to defend themselves they are treated with a punishment or treated unjustly after the accusation is made. For example in the book "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" Buckbeak is taken to a lesson with Hagrid and Hagrid clearly states to his students that hippogriffs are easily offended. When its Malfoy turn, he decides to say that Buckbeak is a "great ugly brute" and Buckbeak reacts, later Malfoy goes on to fake an injury and tells his father. The situation becomes so serious that it is taken to the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures where one of the members ... • 37. A Short Story : A Story? Hermione observed the tiny scene over at the Slytherin table. The teachers did not seem to notice what was occurring at the moment or maybe they do notice but they want to watch. Harry and Ron were whispering about how it's early to get engaged. She couldn't agree more. They're in seventh year. They should at least wait till they have a job to pop the question. Her thoughts were somehow cut off by Pansy, throwing a tantrum. "I can't believe you, Draco. I loved you, I did everything I can just to make you happy. This's how you repay me?" Draco shakes his head. "It's not like–" "That's what they all say." Just then, everyone watched Astoria as she angrily strutted down the table. "If I were you, I would stay away." Pansy growled. "You can't tell me what to do, Astoria. You certainly cannot tell me to stay away from my boyfriend!" Draco cleared his throat. "Actually–" "Stay out of this!" Astoria ordered. She pushed Draco out of the way and, then got close to Pansy's face. "Stay away!" In one swift movement, Pansy slapped Astoria. Before either one of them can make another move, the Headmistress arrived at their table. "Miss Parkinson, Miss Greengrass and Mister Malfoy!" "Y–Yes?" Draco stammered. "Care to explain?" She eyed all three of them before locking eyes with the pug–faced–girl. "Miss Parkinson, would you care to explain what happened here?" She nodded nervously. • 41. Grief In The Book Thief And The Prisoner Of Azkaban While grief is a central theme to both The Book Thief and The Prisoner of Azkaban, the novels have a disagreement about what grief looks like. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban supports the idea of a five stage cycle of grief, as theorized by Kubler and Ross. In contrast, The Book Thief does not focus on stages of grief. Instead, the novel takes a look at a duo–faceted idea of grief, which are pain and anger. The two novels are inherently different because of who their narrators are; Death is the narrator of Zusak's novel, and a Rowling's narrator for the story is a presumably human third party. Grief in The Book Thief is very atypical to what many describe it as, whereas The Prisoner of Azkaban shows the grieving process as cyclic as typically theorized. Grief in The Book Thief has almost an uninvolved view of grief. The novel focuses on the events that result in grief itself, but do not follow up on grief as a continuing process. In most events within the novel, Death, the narrator, discusses what happens to Liesel and how she breaks down in that moment. In the excerpt examined from Part 5, "The Showdown: June 24", Liesel is first described as feeling extreme pain over her mother being let go by the Mayor and his wife from her clothes washing services (Zusak, 260). Later on, the narrator says "Her sadness left her and she was overwhelmed with anger." (261). For the remainder of the chapter, Liesel stays angry, even going as so far to tell Isla, the mayor's wife, off (262–263). After this point, her anger and grief over her mother losing her last client (260) is not mentioned again. The grief, in the eyes of the narrator, seems to stay in that singular moment, and does not impact any future choices. Even later on in the book, when everyone she loves dies as the result of a bombing, the readers only see her grief in the moment, and nothing beyond it (538). In contrast, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban shows grief in a very cyclic and continuing process. The five stages of grief, as theorized by Kubler and Ross, is as follows: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance (Smaldone and Uzzo, 425). The cycle is more visible when looking at the Harry Potter series as a whole, but cycles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Harry Potter Prisoner Of Azkaban Themes Major themes in the series Harry Potter are constantly changing throughout the books, and Rowling does an excellent job of making each blend into the story. In the book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Rowling starts to explore some more unnerving themes such as the gray area between good and evil. She uses themes in this book to catapult the series from just being another set of 'kids' books, to a work of art that goes to include ideas of everyday life. Rowling places Harry deep in the center of a conspiracy between two sides and goes the whole book not knowing the truth until the end. In chapter seventeen, it is revealed that Scabbers is really Peter Pettigrew which causes Harry to figure out what really happened and who really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For most of the first part of the book Rowling has us believing that Sirius Black is bad and is trying to kill Harry. Rowling does a really good job at re–directing the reader's hate towards Black so that she can blindside them later. This allows Rowling some wiggle room to let her explore more of Harry's past and how the wizarding world acts. Nearly all of the wizarding world is afraid of Black, but that is only because they have been fed false information. The knowledge that Black isn't as bad as everyone says he is comes about in the seventeenth chapter of the book, when Black and our heroes meet face to face. Rowling doesn't allow Harry to accept that Peter Pettigrew is actually the one that got his parents killed. Of course Harry doesn't want to believe this as he have just spent the entire year in fear of Black coming to kill him. Now he is there and is telling Harry not to believe what everyone is saying. This shows Rowling has been using that area between good and evil; a naturally occurring feeling of mystery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It spins around the earth slowly, and the position that the moon is in and can be seen from is one phase. One of those phases is called the full moon. That is when the entire illuminated side of the moon is facing Earth. That happens once a month. As you already know, werewolves are humans that shift into uncontrollable wolves once a month, during the night of the full moon. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, this happens. The Fifth Commandment is, "You shall not kill"(Saint Mary's Press 185). This commandment means that Christians should not kill another human(murder, abortion, etc.), regardless of the matter. Also, any words or actions that can cause harm to another is a violation of the Fifth commandment(Saint Mary's Press 187). My mother turned towards me. "Why are you disturbing us?" She inquired "I have a surprise for you!" I squealed. I ran off towards the shore, the stepping stones seemingly bouncing in my wake. I ran hard, feet hitting the sand with powerful strides, kicking up little clumps of wet sand that soon got all over my face. As soon as she saw it, she started staring blankly in amazement at the masterpiece I had created. "You did this?" She was all zombie–like, apparently in awe of what I had done. Her mouth hung open, and for a while, all she did was stare. "Yes." I told her very confidently, even puffing out my chest a little, to completely convince her that what I told was the truth, and nothing but the truth. People can't be comfortable and free of conflict if people want to change they have to do something and not wait for someone else to do it for them. This essay is about clarification. It's going to explain how different people react to different situations. The people that will be talked about mostly come from the book Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The four topics that are used in this essay are person v.s nature, person v.s nature, person v.s self, and person v.s supernatural. First, there is person v.s person. In the book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban the person v.s person is mostly based on a confrontation between two people. This consist of fighting, ignoring one another, or bullying the other person. When it comes to fighting there is a troubling conflict between the two or more people involved. The reason why most people fight is mostly because you either have lots of power but not enough respect, you don't get enough sleep, you're rational to a fault, too self involved, you're not kind to yourself, or not authentic. Rowling, there is a lot of evidence supporting the fact that Harry Potter often does things that are risky or could get him in trouble. However, they tend to work out for him in the end because he has help and resources. For example, on page 195, Harry Potter goes through the secret passage to Honeydukes, even though once he is there, there is a high chance that he will get caught. This could get him in trouble because he is not supposed to go into Hogsmeade because his aunt and uncle did not sign his permission form. It is also risky to go to Hogsmeade because people believe that Sirius Black is trying to find and kill Harry. Another example of this is on page 327 when Harry, Hermione, ... • 85. Harry Potter Character Analysis serves to accentuate Hagrid's maternal role throughout the series. Hagrid serves not only as a mother to these dangerous, isolated magical creatures, but he also serves as a maternal figure to Harry who shows some of the same characteristics. Throughout the series, there are several points where Harry is seen as dangerous. For example, in The Chamber of Secrets, Harry is suspected to be the heir of Slytherin because he can speak parseltongue, and everybody thinks he is dangerous. Also, in the fifth book, The Daily Prophet promotes that Harry and Dumbledore are dangerous and manipulative because they're trying to draw attention to the fact that Lord Voldemort had returned. The Care of Magical Creatures class formed many other connections with characters, but it also connects to and shows several real–world political styles. It was mentioned earlier that this magical institution connects not only to the characters and events throughout the Harry Potter series, but also to real–world political styles and lessons. One of the real–world political styles that the Care of Magical Creatures class exemplifies is that of populism. The populist political style is exemplified through the intervention of the Ministry of Magic in the incident between Draco Malfoy and Buckbeak. Normally the Ministry will not interfere if a student gets injured. For example, when Harry's arm was broken because of his jinxed broom, the Ministry never jumped in to try and solve what happened or to inflict a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 93. Determinism And Free Will In Harry Potter And The Prisoner... The controversy of whether the doctrine of determinism or free will guides us throughout our life is constantly debated. Is there a superior being that determines everything that occurs, or are humans free to do whatever they choose? In stories, the collaboration of fate and free will propels the actions of characters throughout the plot. In J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, there is a certain fate ordained, but there is free will that brings the characters to their fates. On the contrary, the chorus of Euripides' Medea states "the gods find a way, against all expectation, to do what they want...And that is exactly how this case turned out" (Euripides 1467–1469), suggesting that whatever Medea does is constrained the the fate determined by the gods. That she enacts the judgement of the gods is what she considers the bindings of fate, but under the lens of Harry Potter, Rowling would treat this as free will that endows fate. The notion that there is a superior force that decides fate is present in the novel and the play, although the extent of this power contrasts. Dumbledore acts as a semi–god figure in Harry Potter, determining the fates of Buckbeak and Sirius Black by pushing Hermione and Harry to use the Time Turner. Had he not opened up this possibility to them, the salvation of the doomed characters would not have been possible. How Reader Positioning Techniques are used to depict Heroism and Villains in the Children's Books; 'Matilda' and 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'. Introduction The purpose of this report is to determine how reader positioning such as characterisation and point of view, can help depict heroes and villains within a text. Children's literature includes a variety of text such as picture books, stories, novels, poems and magazines that are greatly enjoyed by children. This is generalised through the appropriate genres aimed for younger readers or the envisioned age range (Lukens et al 2010, p. 6–8). The influence of literature techniques such as reader positioning plays a massive influence on how viewers conceive certain characters within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is due to the overpowering thoughts and feelings of the narrator's broad outlook, narrowing the experience of the reader. This restriction placed on individuals make it hard to relate and form a bond with the protagonist, limiting the connection between the narrator and the reader (Papazian. G, 2010). "This can mean pushing certain values or opposing socially dominant ones, depending on the writer" (Stephens 1992, p.3–9). This is attributable to the impersonal and objective point of view, making it hard for readers to determine what type of person the character is. Conclusion J.K Rowling and Roald Dahl both successfully use literary techniques derived from reader positioning, expressing to readers on how to identify heroes and villains. This is achieved through point of view and characterisation of the protagonists and the antagonists. Limitations show that this can indeed be overlooked and in turn can ultimately backfire on the narrator. This leads to the speaker being incapable of providing personal information about themselves, making it difficult for readers to describe what kind of individual the narrator is due to the omniscient and objective ... • 113. Analysis Of Harry Potter And Dumbledore In this film critique, I will be analyzing the first half of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. The film starts out on Privet Drive in the dark of night emphasizing something dark but important is about to happen. Dumbledore is standing under a street light and is using magic to put the rest of the street lights out when he notices a cat, who quickly transforms into Professor McGonagall. The darkness and low voices emphasize danger and suspense. The character who plays Professor Dumbledore, Richard Harris, is a perfect because of his voice and composure, he goes along perfectly with the book! His presence demands respect and his composure makes him seem wise. The same goes for the Dursley family; Aunt Petunia, Fiona Shaw, is a sharp/crinkle nosed, rude looking skinny woman, Uncle Vernon, Richard Griffiths, is fat and boastful showing he's a horrible person, Dudley, Harry Melling, is a short, fat and pig like looking boy his dad with the attitude combination of both parents, creating a monster of a child. Daniel Ratcliffe is perfect for the part of Harry Potter because he's small, skinny, you would never suspect anything abnormal by just looking at him. Harry lives under the stairs at the Dursley with a lock on the outside of the cabinet and slot just big enough for a dinner plate. This emphasizes the Dursleys feelings about Harry being there. Harry receives his first letter from Hogwarts, the look on Uncle Vernons face shows deep concern, almost like frightened. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 121. Sci Fi And Fantasy Stories Philosophers And Physicists Time is a complex topic. One that only seems to be tackled by the authors of Sci–Fi and Fantasy stories philosophers and physicists. Whether it's a book, movie, or show we seem to only be able to talk and theorize about time in the abstract. Though this idea is less prevalent in the Harry Potter series, it is still important and raises a lot of questions. Is time simply the ticking hands on the clock or is it more complicated than that? We go through life talking about time as if it's a simple idea: there is a cause. which creates an effect and this continues in a never–ending cycle. What if it's not that simple? If we are working under the belief that time travel is possible, then it would have to be a little bit more complicated than that. Now granted I have not yet had the honor of going backwards nor forwards in time. Nor do I know anyone that has moved from their own timeline, but just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it's not possible. Remember people also didn't think we could put a man on the moon, but NASA proved them all wrong. Time Travel may not have happened yet but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen in the future. Deutsch and Lockwood explain that time travel is in fact scientifically possible. In the Quantum Physics of Time Travel they use Einstein's theory of relativity as well as several other theories to explain that time travel is actually a scientific possibility (Deutsch and Lockwood). Although until it happens there is no way to know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 125. How Does Astronomy Affect The Prisoner Of Azkaban? Astronomy plays a huge factor during the Prisoner of Azkaban when when Professor Lupin turns into a werewolf in front of Harry, Hermione and Ron. It was late a night, the full moon covered by clouds preventing professor Lupin from transforming. As the clouds disperse and the light from the full moon hits Lupin the transformation begins. When it comes to lycanthropy the moon plays a large part into the transformation of the afflicted. If there had not been a full moon durning this scene than the story line would not have been able to progress in the way it did; there would not have been that distraction for Peter Pettigrew to run away. The full moon occurs when the moon is illuminated when seen by the earth. This happens when the sun is directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 129. Double In Macbeth Double, Double Candles float gracefully above the tables as children sing in a choir as a prelude to a feast. Three witches dance ominously around a cauldron, conjuring something dark and not of this world. There is, in fact, a common theme between these two images – the presence of the famed witches' spell "Double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble" (Shakespeare 4.1.10–11) from The Tragedy of Macbeth and witchcraft. The singing of the witches' words in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a highly ironic statement about perception of witchcraft and provides a contrast in views of magic. In the time of Shakespeare, magic, and by extension, witches were inherently evil. Any mention of witchcraft would immediately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scene most likely would not be remembered at all. Understanding the allusion gives the scene increased depth and shows the conflicting perceptions of magic. Once it becomes apparent that the song is from evil witches who were conjuring spirits, the whole scene becomes dark and highly ironic. These children are singing a song about a dark form of witchcraft in a school dedicated to a much less harmful version of witchcraft and wizardry. Most of these children, having grown up in an environment with magic all around them, are now exposed to an outside view of their lifestyle, and it is most definitely ... • 133. Comparing Azkaban And The Dark Knight Sirius Black from "The Prisoner of Azkaban" and The Joker from "The Dark Knight" are similar and different in Many ways. Whether it is the goals or individual sacrifices they have or themselves as people. Each character shows that they are both so different but at the same time so similar. The Joker himself is a very odd character as a whole. The Joker proves many times through out the film "The Dark Knight" that he does not care about the sacrifices he has to make or even the consequences simply because he does not believe he will genuinely get any. The list of sacrifices The Joker made includes friends, family, money, his sanity, freedom, and even his own life. The Joker is constantly sacrificing his freedom and life. There fore Sirius Black knows he was not the one to blame but takes the fall and sacrifices his reputation, life, and name to all of Hogwarts, but more importantly Harry Potter. Sirius Black was made out to be the murder of Harrys parents when in reality it was Voldemort. While allowing Harry to believe this Sirius Black sacrifices his relationship and the love, he had for Harry Potter and his family. Sirius Black definitely does show that he is willing to sacrifice so much through out "The Prisoner of Azkaban" but the one thing that does stand out that he chooses to sacrifice, and that is his life. Sirius Black decided to sacrifice his life to save Harry Potter, and save his friends from Lupin who turned into a ware wolf. Although each movie has two different story lines and each character shows that they are, so different they both share so many things because of the sacrifices they made. One character, Harry, sacrificed everything for the love of another human and his family. • 137. Comparison Of Harry Potter: The Prisoner Of Azkaban Many books have been made into movies over the past decades. Sometimes the changes are minor as the movies typically keep the main aspects of the book such as plot, mood and important characters. Other times the discrepancy may be major and may take out most, if not all the key features that made that certain book special. In Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban the movie is able to keep many features of the book which made it widely popular and loved, but also change a couple of ideas and add to make the parts of the book have a larger impact to the overall story for good and worse. Firstly, the comparisons for both movie and book are countless. The movie maintains the books major under–lying plot of Harry realizing who truly deceived his parents the night Voldemort attacked. In addition, the two versions aren't able to fully clear Black's name, nonetheless are still able to let Harry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book, Sirius and Crookshanks develop a valuable and important relationship. He is able to use Crookshanks to lure Harry, Hermione and Ron into meeting himself. This is incredibly important to the overall plot because in this part Harry is able to learn the truth to what really happened to his parents. In the movie, however, Sirius and Crookshanks never develop a relationship and Crookshanks is barely mentioned and instead of Crookshanks luring the gang, the black dog quickly attacks Ron forcing Harry and Hermonie to follow. Furthermore, since Crookshanks is not present, he/she is unable to calm the Whomping Willow and therefore Harry and Hermonie receive unnecessary injuries. Also, while Harry plays his Quidditich match Sirius Black never shows up in the movie unlike in the book. The setting changes massively in the book as Harry is potentially nervous and scared hence changing the mood from a fun and exciting setting into a dangerous and fearful ... • 141. Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban "Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them. Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can't see them" (Rowling 187). A major factor driving the action and theme of J.K. Rowling's third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, is the element of fear represented by the dementors upon the magical community and the terror felt when witches and wizards were threatened by the Dementor's horrific Kiss. In the scene (246–248) where Harry Potter and Professor Lupin are having a drink at the "Three Broomsticks" tavern, Harry decides to ask about the dementors and the Dementor's Kiss. This scene is important because it ties together all the previous information about the dementors, and emphasizes how negatively they epitomize the forces of evil in the magical community, in which Harry Potter and other witches and wizards live. Harry says to Professor Lupin "What is under the dementor's hood?" (Rowling 246), the professor's answer is both truthful and frightening. Professor Lupin mentions that the dementors are so evil that even the Muggle community fears their presence, but cannot see them or know what kind of creatures they really are, and therefore, the Muggle community is only aware of the strange cold feeling that makes them afraid of unseen entities. However, the wizarding community whose ability to use magic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 145. Similarities Between Harry Potter And The Prizoner Of Azkaban An adaptation is the act or process of adapting or being adapted; an alteration or modification. Movie adaptations are no different as they modify the story of the book. In Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling and the film adaptation by Alfonso Cuaron, the two stories have their own unique interpretations. Rowling's and Cuaron's Prisoner of Azkaban are similar, however they differ, and their main themes are exceedingly specialized. An adaptation of any kind should not be expected to be a precise representation of the original. Though the movie is an adaptation of the book, there are still a great deal of similarities between the two. "And then the thing beneath the hood, whatever it was, drew a long, slow, rattling breath, as though it were trying to suck some–thing more than air from its surrounding. An intense cold swept over them all" (Rowling 83). In the film adaptation of the book, the dementor enters the doorway, everything quickly freezes, and it causes Harry to pass out as the air makes a sucking motion. This scene is important in the book and the movie, as it sets up one of the conflicts of the story. The similarities shown throughout the movie that correlate with the book are kept to keep the main story in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
