 Uses ELT (Extract - Load - Transform).
 Uses existing resources (IS – information System resources).
Example: Oracle database/Sql Server/MySql/Access etc) and using native functionality to
achieve ELT in conjunction with KM (Knowledge Modules).
 Large volume of data can be integrated quickly (staging area in 95% of cases is on the
target hence proximity of the data to the target).
 Target should be able to understand RDBMS or simply SQL.

7. Agent

 Is a run time component which manages integration process for ODI.
 It’s a light weight java program that retrieves code from the repository at run time.
 Agent connect to the Data Servers and executes the code using the native functionality
of these Servers.
 Two type of agents : Standalone and Java EE agent
 Java EE agent can be deployed as web application and benefit from the features of the
application server.
 Standalone agent runs in a simple java machine and can be used to achieve integration
flow.

10. Knowledge Modules

It’s a code template containing sequences of commands which accomplish data
integration task.
Different type of KM are:
 LKM Load Knowledge Module
 IKM Integration Knowledge Module
 CKM Check Knowledge Module
 JKM Journalizing Knowledge Module
 SKM Service Knowledge Module
 For example: LKM Load Knowledge Module is used to load data from the source to the
staging area which is separate designated on the target.

11. Similarly IKM integration knowledge module is used to populate the
target tables / datastore from the staging area

CKM check knowledge module:
 Checks whether data in table / datastore conforms to the constraints enforced on the
table / datastore - Static Control.
 Checks data while it is moving from source to target and before the data gets integrated
with the target table / datastore, whether it meets the constraints enforced on the target
table / datastore - Flow Control
RKM – reverse engineering:
 Gets structure of a data model from the database, required for customized reverse
engineering only.
 JKM – Journalizing Knowledge Module for change data capture.
 SKM – Service knowledge module provides access to data in the datastores.
