1. Reflection on preliminary task
Did you manage to fulfil the criteria?
I think that my group and I have successfully managed to fulfil the criteria because
we met our individual and group activity task’s to finish our preliminary task. My
group had included me, Ellie, Ezra and Lauryn.
As a group we managed to plan our preliminary task gradually, we all had different
ideas on what to do for our preliminary task and we combined our idea’s together
and managed to produce our preliminary task video. We as a group took
responsibility to for the representation of our characters, for our characters we took
into consideration of how we want to represent our characters, and we chose to go
with casual outfits for our characters to portray them as normal teenagers in school,
this helped us meet the criteria of representation for our task.
During planning we had to consider shot types and angles. We were set to use shot
reverse shot and match on action, we successfully managed to use shot reverse
shot during Verona’s and Lauryn’s conversation we shot Verona first while her and
Lauryn were having their conversation, then we shot Lauryn only while her and
Verona were having their conversation. and we cut their shots together to create
shot reverse shots successfully.
We chose to do Point Of View shots because we wanted to portray them as having a
normal conversation. We also used match on action shots of Lauryn walking round
the corner to meet Verona this helped give the viewer a sense of the location. Our
location was based typically because we wanted to show the location was in a
school so we simply chose the corridor. Once we had shot and edited our video we
also uploaded our video onto YouTube this helped us finish and meet our criteria for
our preliminary task successfully.
What did you learn during the filming process?
Sound
During the filming process we had learned how sound is very important, we had
some difficulties during filming with sound as we needed our location surrounding s
to be very quiet so when we upload our footage there would be no noise or
disturbance in the background. We also had to make sure we can here our
characters and know what they are saying which we learned how to make higher
and lower when editing.
Organising actors/location
Organising the characters was quite simple to choose because we had Verona
which does drama and fitted the character we wanted to her to represent really well,
also when we have media lessons she had free periods so that benefited our group.
Our other actor was Lauryn and she is already in our group and she contributed
herself to acting for our Preliminary task. We didn't have any difficulties with our
actors. For our location we had chosen the corridor to show that our characters were
in school.
Filming correctly
I think with our filming we had most of our shots correct when we had first attempted
to o our filming for our preliminary task in a classroom it was hard doing a Point of
2. View shot from Verona’s angle the angle and become a slight high angle shot
making our other character look weak and innocent which is not what we were not
trying to represent. While filming we had to make sure we did not break the 180
degree rule as it would make it look like we have changed location ,whichi think we
have successfully managed not to do.
Framing
Framing was really important for our group because each shot or angles we did was
relevant to the way we show our characters also with framing we had to show the
relevance of the mise en scene because the/ mise en scene showed the importance
of where our characters were located and why?.
What did you learn about editing from the process of making the
film.
After filming i learnt how to upload the footage onto the mac and i also learnt how to
cut the beginning or the end of a shot to make the whole film just flow. I benefited
from this as it made the match on action shot and the shot reverse shot look the way
we wanted it to. Also during editing it was helpful as our group knew what would look
better because we had different opinions on what would look better and managed to
come to conclusions for each shot. I also knew how to change the colour and lighting
for a clip because certain areas of our footage would look yellow and this helped
make our film look more clear.
