Brief description: ITV Sport Sting
What do you see? The ball on top of the trophy is formed by liquid which slowly turns solid creating the top of the trophy.
Meanwhile it goes through different angles of the trophy quickly whilst the rings spin round it and move
also in a wave motion. It then pans out from really close up to reveal the full fifa world cup. This pauses for a
few seconds but the rings keep spinning, this allows the itv sport logo to animate on. This tells the viewer
that itv will be broadcasting the world cup all in 10 seconds.
Techniques used: This sting uses motion graphics and we know it does this because the rings and trophy both rotate
Animation, Visual Effects, Colour Rendering, seperately at different speeds. They have used a liquid gold colour effect, this helps distinguish the
Graphics, Movement movements in the animation and adds to making the trophy look more alive and fluid with its movement,
this all makes the sting very eye catching along with the colour gold which makes the sting look grand.
Advanced techniques: The background of this sting is blurred throughout to make the viewer focus more on the main subject
Blur, Sharpen, Distortion, Rotation, Opacity which is the cup, the rings also target the cup which also distinguishes it from everything else. Whilst the
background is blurred the cup and the rings are kept very sharp so the viewer can easily see it. This sting
relies heavily on rotation to add that wow factor to the viewer which makes it memorable. The cup rotates
one way very slow, whereas the rings rotate quickly the other way this all adds to the significance of the
viewer seeing the cup and what the sting is about in such a short space of time.
Technical comments: This sting is High definition there for the aspect ratio is 1080 is 1920 x 1080 meaning 2,073,600 pixels. As
Video Format, Screen Ratio, Resolution, this sting is made for television I am assuming that it must be Standard TV ratio which is 4:3; this means that
Frame rate, Compression for every 4 units wide it is 3 units high. As this sting has been made for an English television channel I would
also assume that the frame rate is PAL which is standard UK TV at 25 frames per second instead of NTSC
which standard US television at 30 frames per second. The only difference between PAL and NTSC is that
with NTSC being 30 frames per second it therefore updates more regularly causing less strobing or jerkiness.
