Ectopic salivary gland tissue developmentally
entrapped within the jaw.
Entrapment of retromolar salivary gland within
the mandible.
Neoplastic transformation of mucous secretary
cells commonly found in epithelial lining of
dentigerous cyst associated with impacted 3rd
molar.

5. Clinical Features
Middle aged persons
Female predilection
Three times more common in mandible
Cortical swelling
Pain, trismus, parasthesia is less

6. Radiographic features
Unilocular or multilocular radiolucency with well
defined borders

7. Acinic Cell Carcinoma
Malignancy of serous acinar cells.
Considered to be a low grade malignancy.

9. Clinical Features
85% in parotid gland as parotid is the largest
gland & is one composed entirely of serous acini
I/O minor gland in buccal mucosa, lip and palate.
2nd to 7th decade of life.
Slow growing mass.
Lesion appears for many months/ years
Asymptomatic
Facial nerve paralysis is infrequent.

10. Closely resembles pleomorphic adenoma in
gross appearance, tending to be encapsulated &
lobulated

11. Well circumscribed & encapsulated.
Cells of varying degrees of differentiation.
Well differentiated – remarkable resemblance to
normal acinar cells.
Less differentiated – embryonic duct and
immature acinar cells
