ICSI versus IVF
IIRRH IVF training institute Page 1
ICSI (Infertility treatment)
The expansion of ICSI is that intracytoplasmic sperm injection. The
process imperatively works as the semen is brought back from the male,
the best sperm selected from it, and then artificially injected into the egg
for fertilization.
IVF with ICSI imply the use of specialized micromanipulation appliance
and equipment and reverse microscopes that enable embryologists to select
and pick up individual sperm in a specially designed ICSI needle.
The needle is carefully new fangled through the outer shell of the egg
and the egg membrane – and the sperm is inoculated into the cytoplasm of
the egg. This generally results in normal fertilization in about 75-85% of eggs

injected with sperm. Howbeit, first the woman must be stimulated with
medications and have an egg retrieval procedure so we can obtain several
eggs for in vitro fertilization and ICSI.
The success rate for ICSI can scale from 80-85%. This says that around 8
eggs out of 10 eggs will fertilize usually.
Reasons why ICSI treatment is undergoing
➢ Serious cases in male infertility that do not want donor sperm
insemination.
➢ Couples with
• Low sperm concentration than 15-20 million per millilitre.
• Slow movement of the sperm-less than 35 percent
• Very poor quality of external features of the sperm.
Process of ICSI treatment.
• Regulation of hormones for the women to produce over one egg a month.
This can be done through injections.
• Egg retrieval from woman's ovaries through minor procedure.
• Sperm retrieval from the male through ejaculation, it is suggestible if
the semen is collected on the day of the procedure so that. The good
sperm is then filtered and selected for the procedure.
• The selected sperm is carefully inoculated into the egg
• The embryo or the fertilized egg is then transplanted into woman's
uterus through catheter.
IVF (Invitro - Fertilization)
IVF is a technique of assisted reproduction in which a man's sperm and a
woman's eggs are fertilized outside of the body in a laboratory dish. One
or more fertilized eggs may be transferred into the woman's uterus, where they
may transplant in the uterine lining and develop.
Many women normally see success rates of 20-35% per cycle, but the
possibility of getting pregnant decreases with each successive round, while the
cost increases. The collective effect of three full cycles of IVF increases the
chances of a successful pregnancy to 45-53%.
Which is better ICSI or IVF ?
ICSI versus IVF

ICSI IVF
ICSI is a infertility treatment in which
microinjection of selected sperm was
done on all of retrieved oocytes.
IVF is a infertility treatment in which
all of retrieved oocytes are made
fertilized with sperms outside the
mother's body.
ICSI implantation and fertilization
rates are significantly lower.
(57.46percent and 11.17percent).
IVF implantation and fertilization rates
are significantly higher.
(66.22percent and 16.67percent).
Chemical and clinical pregnancy rate
is 35.7percent vs.21.5 percent.
Chemical and clinical pregnancy rate
is 42.9 percent vs. 27.3percent.
Some studies tells that ICSI treated
Childs might have chromosomal
abnormalities, autism, intellectual
disabilities and birth defects.
Although some studies told IVF
treated Childs also have problems,
but the cases are very lower than
ICSI.
The cost of ICSI in India ranges from
1,06,068 to 1,51,540.
The cost of IVF in India ranges from
9,09,667 to 11,35,983.
Though the cost of IVF is larger than ICSI, IVF might give better results
than ICSI.
The assurance of ICSI is still unknown and the non-essential ICSI appears to
make higher cost, increased time and unethical method, howbeit, ICSI is very
successful in treatment of severe male infertility.
According to many studies, the routine use of ICSI is not improved
fertilization, implantation and chemical pregnancy rates and is not
recommended in non-male factor, normozoospermic patients.
IIRRH - Leading IVF training institute in India invented for the
betterment of patient care
This Erudition Institution was found with the mission to train clinicians
and scientists in the interest of advancing the comprehending of human
reproduction, infertility and feto maternal medicine.
IIRRH is identified as one of the few institutes offering the IVF training in
India, determining to cover the fundamentals of IVF procedure as well as
the beginning of setting up of an IVF lab. The intention of IVF training
courses for clinicians is to impart in-depth explanation of all aspects of
an IVF cycle including pre-treatment evaluation and testing, keeping in

mind the moral and provident implications of the treatment. IIRRH offers
different ART courses characterising hands-on IVF training as well as
fellowship programs in Reproductive Medicine for post graduate doctors.
Constituted with the mission to train clinicians and scientists in maternal
fetal medicine and infertility, International Institute for Training &
Research in Reproductive Health, provides, post-doctoral fellowship
programs in Reproductive Medicine and Maternal Fetal Medicine. Lead by
the eminent clinician, researcher and academician, Dr. Kamini Rao, IIRRH
has been training the future ART & OBG clinicians and scientists
embryologists, andrologists, while at the same time reaching out to
amending our understanding of the leading improvements in the field of
reproductive medicine.
IIRRH is one of the few educational institutes to afford PhD programs in
Reproductive Biology, in addition to short and medium-term training
programs for clinicians and scientists. The organization is incorporated to
VIT University, NITTE University as well as Bangalore University for
PhD in Reproductive Biology. Accredition Courses and short term training
courses in Clinical ART, Embryology and Obstetric Ultrasound cater to the
needs of the busy interpreter.
The catalogue of facilities at IIRRH include medical training & education,
clinical trials and medical publications that are focused on women’s health
and reproductive medicine.
