Center for Basque Studies
Faculty Seminar Series: Fall 2008
Igor Calzada, visiting researcher at the
Center for Basque Studies and Project
Director at Mondragón University/Eteo-
MCC will present the third talk in the
series entitled “To a Basque City” on
December 2.
Is the idea of the Basque City real? Could we imagine and put
this idea into practice during the next twenty years? The
speaker will provide a view of the future from the perspective
of social innovation as a research discipline. He will focus on
the possibility of creating a Basque City by means of a
Basque “net society.” Putting such an idea into practice has
many implications for urbanism, digital networks, the Basque
language, politics, social structure, immigration and core
competitive economic sectors in Basque society. The
speaker’s multi-disciplinary research draws upon sociology,
macroeconomics, cyber-culture, anthropology, political
science, environmental science, and business studies.
The Faculty Seminar Series enables UNR faculty and visiting
scholars to discuss research in progress with colleagues in the
academic and local communities. CBS faculty seminars are open to
members of the public.
