Abstract
The women are the soul of our community. They are the self
build and self trained humans responsible for the morale
development of their children, inspiration for the family
and an example for the community to follow.
Government/NGO/entrepreneur groups should work towards
inspiring women community. And, such groups should help
women community to make themselves more resourceful and
culturally educated so that, they can pass on the same
education to their children, family members and community.
This will lay the strong framework for any society for the
balanced and happy progress. But, this is not happening.
Nowadays, women community is struggling in employment
industry to compete with man. It is the competition that
needs not to exist. In this paper we will evaluate various
factors that provide the proof of importance of the woman
as a best friend, best family manager, and inspiration for
community and caretaker of morale values which are the
irreplaceable framework of any developing community or
country.

Women: Self build pillars of individual, family and
community
Women are the teachers of society. They are not
competitors. “Woman as a mother is the best friend and
teacher for the child, especially girl child (Firestone,
Catlett, 1993, The Mother-Daughter Bond)”. Woman as friend
is an inspiring support for any task. Woman as wife is a
best friend and supportive partner for the husband. Woman
as a family member is a best family manager and care taker
of family values and traditions. Woman as a community
member is an example of love, friendliness, inspiration and
the best worker. These are the normal roles and
responsibilities performed by the women community around
the world. And, these roles and responsibilities are the
base of the successful families and hence communities. So,
why does the general thinking interprets woman as a
competitor? They are more of a supportive friend than a
competitor. The paper is about realizing this potential of
the woman community in the combined development of family,
community and country.
Though, the truth is that woman can change the way the
family approaches to solve the problem, the fact remains
that woman is not given that respect and appreciation. It
should be surprising to find that even most of the women
3

are unaware of their potential in the development of their
families and community. They are also unaware of their
indirect but, involved participation in the same.
The paper is about the respect that people should have
towards women community and approach that needs to be taken
to make women community educated and resourceful in real
sense.
Women as a self built pillar for her child and husband!
Woman as an individual are irreplaceable member of the
family and community. She is the first teacher of her
child. She passes her knowledge of cultural education and
family traditions to her child. She is the person with whom
her husband shares his views and feelings. The study shows
that most of the children share their views/thoughts with
their mother. If the mother is educated and resourceful
enough to interpret the real meaning of the words spoken by
her child, then she can always guide her child to take
better decisions. It is fact that framework of the morale
values and thinking pattern of an individual is laid in the
childhood. It depends on this framework that decides the
way child will interpret various situations that he/she is
going to face in future. Healthy framework will lead to a
safe and optimistic future.
One woman stated:

Perhaps the most beautiful, and most
challenging, part about motherhood is how wise
children really are. What children most grasp
and most learn from is what is very deep within
you. So you have to be genuine with them.
(“Being genuine with your children”,
http://health.yahoo.com/intlwomen/intlwomen/3779
/being-genuine-with-your-children)
As a wife, woman is his best friend and inspiration.
The history conveys that, “Each successful man has an
inspiring woman responsible for success”. The study shows
that husband always feels more comfortable discussing
various problems and concerns with his wife. Now, it is
wife who can inspire her husband to move ahead smartly in
spite of the roadblocks. It is also said that source of
strength for an individual is to have the person who can
support his thinking and support him morally and
emotionally. Rest of the performance can be left to his
professionalism. Thus, performance of an individual as a
professional will surely improve if his wife is his best
friend.
If we visualize the large picture wherein each woman
performs her duties with support from her husband, then
such family is bound to move ahead in the path to progress.

Family
Woman is an all-round player in the game where,
playground is ‘family’. The only difference is that, woman
is an all-round player at almost all such playgrounds
around the world. In family, woman is an excellent manager
cum worker. She works hard to fine tune the routine events
of the family irrespective of the availability or
limitation of the resources. Some of them are also
efficient enough to manage family along with their
professional lives. They participate as a leader in every
family event; from kitchen work to any traditional family
event. It is not an easy task at all as she is alone and
she competes and participates smartly in all these events.
Managing the family, self-development and
external family events single handedly can be done only by
the person with art of co-ordination and strong social
management skill. It must be noted that most of them do not
attend any school to learn these skills. They learn it on
their own. She is the one place to reach for all kinds of
family solutions. She is a source of bond to maintain a
united family. And, united families progress much faster
than divided families.
In such scenario, common in all families, it is
important for woman to be more resourceful in terms of
6

knowledge and solution finding skills. The concern is about
making her aware of her importance in development of her
family. It is about providing her with enough of resources
so that she can educate herself and hence educate her
family and community at large.
For example, take the case of global maternal health.
Every year, 14.4 million mothers and infants die from
complications of pregnancy and childbirth. That’s close to
40,000 deaths per day - over 1600 an hour, and more than 26
per minute. All such deaths can be prevented by educating a
woman about the measures that she can follow to maintain
her health as well as that of her child during the state of
pregnancy.
What can we do to make the woman more resourceful as a
family member? The answer will be “educate her”, with
cultural education, traditional values, and about the way
she can pursue her hobby/career. She should be confident
about herself and should have the feeling of support from
her family. It is like, “you also live, let me live and we
both live…”
Japan’s Prime Minister told 1990 World Summit for
children:
Policy of promoting education constituted the
very foundation of Japan’s development. Education

is the fundamental to development. Japan,
Singapore and Republic of Korea are the
sufficient evidence”
Community
If we visualize the multiple views of the, woman from
various families working for her children, family and
herself; we will find that there are several women working
for the development of their respective families. In broad
sense, they are working for combined development of the
community in which they live because; community is the
united form of varied families. Woman is never appreciated
for her indirect participation in this strong development
and in the progress of her children, family or external
community. She can be said as a silent and selfless leader.
We take woman as a strong pillar on which the progress
of the family and community depends. If she is educated
enough to utilize and manage the family resources in smart
manner, and every women does so, than such community will
definitely progress irrespective of the variations in the
religion, tradition, culture and financial background that
are present in any community around the world.

Circumstances that prevent pillar from becoming strong!
There can be many circumstances that can prevent woman
from performing at her best. It can be lack of peer
support, illiteracy, lack of knowledge, lack of resources
or lack inspiration to name few.
The most important being the absence of active groups
whose task is to help women make them selves more
resourceful by educating themselves. There are groups which
work for the welfare of women community but none is there
which works for the women to educate her self so that she
can educate others, fight her own war, pursue her hobbies,
profession, and participate in her family progress and
community events more smartly. There can be other
circumstance like weak financial background, but, women do
have the attitude of adapting to the available resources.
So, weak financial background cannot be the base cause that
prevents women community to be more resourceful and
educated.
The base cause is the lack of inspiration. The study
states that women community is strong enough to solve any
problem coming in their way if they are inspired and guided
about the path and approach towards the solution. Sandra
Turner, a professor of educational studies at Ohio
University and lead author of the study “Portrait of Women
9
10. Women: Self Build Pillars
in Technology Career” states that, “If you want to get more
women involved in this field, talking about the money is
not going to do it. A love of problem solving, a love of
the challenge really came across and it attracts most of
women in technology arena.”
This approach is lacking in the women-help groups. The
approach of these groups is to help woman as if she is less
strong member of the society. If she is less strong, then
how is she able to perform as an all-rounder in the
progress of family? And, how is she able to manage both,
her professional and family responsibilities? It must be
noted that women community is not less strong but needs
inspiration to work efficiently and in sync with other
members. She needs to be trained to work in a smart manner.
Such training can be given by the higher education classes.
Shanta Pandey, Ph.D., associate professor at
Washington University's Brown School of Social Work states:
While our study provides additional evidence that
a bachelor's degree will help lift mothers out of
poverty; it also shows that there aren't
sufficient social programs and tax incentives
that encourage post-secondary education. Even
minor federal efforts to promote education of
poor women with children may have broad impacts."

What can be done to support women to make them selves more
resourceful?
“Inspiration, path & guidance” is a 3 word solution to
all the concerns that women community from different
background face in their routine lives. They can
participate in continuous education programs. Expert groups
consisting of researchers, psychologists, sociologists,
doctors and manager can be formed so as to answer the
queries of various women. Such programs can be sponsored by
big business groups and transmitted live in media. Public
conferences backed by government policies can be planned at
various places where in women can be educated about the
clever use of resources that they already possess. Most
important being that, making the woman and other members of
the community aware of her potential in the progress of her
family in terms of finance, tradition, health, and culture.
“Women’s empowerment and gender mainstreaming is key to
tackling challenges, such as poverty, discrimination,
educational gaps, high maternal mortality, disease and
other ills (UN News Centre, March 01, 2007)

Where does this strategy take the individual, family and
community?
Inspiring a woman to educate herself and her family is
like taking first strong step towards removing the root
cause of misery from the family and community at large.
This is a long term strategy. This strategy will make good
citizens working in sync with each other. This strategy is
about taking the help of women in eradicating the root
cause of the reasons which bring misery to family and
community.
The future holds prosperity for them who support women
educate them selves!
In spite of the fact that women can be powerful enough
to take the charge of leading a family and community, it
should be noted that it is not a one-man show. Every member
has to participate for this strategy to be successful.
Every member of the community has to co-operate with only
difference that women is leading the play by pursuing
various responsibilities, gaining knowledge, executing
family management skills, and inspiring her surroundings by
her work.
Conclusion
This is un-ending and ever-evolving process and every
one plays a role in it. Each member’s participation keeps

value and should be backed by the support from the
government authorities and big business groups. “Women as a
self build pillar of individual, family and community” is
the part of the strategy whose approach is to remove the
root cause of the misery from the family and community by
making woman community more resourceful by providing them
easy access to, “Inspiration, path & guidance” to decide
their own path of progress.
