2. The Godfather is a 1972 American crime film
directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced
by Albert S. Ruddy from a screenplay by Mario
Puzo and Coppola. Starring Marlon Brando and Al
Pacino as the leaders of the fictional Corleone
New York crime family, the story spans the years
1945-55, concentrating on the transformation of
Michael Corleone from reluctant family outsider
to ruthless Mafia boss while chronicling the
family under the patriarch Vito.
3. PLOT
The Godfather "Don" Vito Corleone is the head of the
Corleone mafia family in New York. He is at the event of his
daughter's wedding. Micheal, Vito's youngest son and a
decorated WW II Marine is also present at the wedding.
Micheal seems to be uninterested in being a part of the
family business. Vito is a powerful man, and is kind to all
those who give him respect but is ruthless against those
who do not. But when a powerful and treacherous rival
wants to sell drugs and needs the Don's influence for the
same, Vito refuses to do it. What follows is a clash between
Vito's fading old values and the new ways which may cause
Micheal to do the thing he was most reluctant in doing and
wage a mob war against all the other mafia families which
could tear the Corleone family apart.
4. CODES AND CONVENTIONS
Although codes and conventions change all the time. But we can easily say that The
Godfather has set a foundation of gangster/Mafia genre movies.
Just like any other Mafia movie nowadays, The Godfather incules a lot of blood shed.
And generally the Mise en scenes are kept very dark to give the movie that Mafia
kind of look.
5. Another Code that has been followed in this
movie is, showing wealth. Since Mafias are
shown are involved in a lot of black and illegal
work, Mafias are tend to be shown very rich to
show them more influential.
6. And as we all know when we talk about Mafia,
the first thing that comes to our minds are
guns and bullets. This movie contains a lot of
gun fires and bloodshed
7. Another important thing is the dress up. As we
imagine and think about the dress up of old
Mafias, the thing that comes to our mind is
fierce men in black well suited coats and a
retro hairstyle. But guess what? As I said
earlier, The God Father set this foundation of
creating such amazing types of styles. And
that’s the reason why even in recent movies
mafias are shown like this.
8. “Never hate your enemies. It affects your
judgment.” – The Godfather
These catchy dialogues play a very vital role in
attracting audience towards an action thriller.
And this movie is filled with such breath taking
dialogues.
9. BOOM!
Gun fires! How can you not talk about the gunfires
when it comes to the action genre? The God Father
has plenty of scenes that has gun fires in them. And
basically that’s the most important ingredient in the
recipe when you talk about Action thrillers. The
Godfather is the best example of it.
