1) The document describes an oil recovery system that separates oil from an oil-water mixture in drainage pits.
2) The system uses a boiler, pumps, settling tank, and hoses to heat the mixture and pump it to the tank where the oil and water separate due to differences in density.
3) The document outlines the process steps, daily operations on different dates, problems encountered, and suggested solutions to improve the efficiency and monitoring of the system.
4. Goal
Recovering the oil from the oil-water mixture
that is exist inside drain pit and pumping it to
the oil line or vacuum truck with minimum cot
,minimum time and minimum consumption for
machines and equipments.
5. Machines and
equipments
1-Boiler (2 ton vapor / hour)
2-Pumps (quantity=2)
3-Settling Tank (10 cubic meter)
4-Solar Tank+ water tank
5-Hoses and cables.

7. Process steps
1-operate the generator, then ,operate the boiler to
increase the temperature of the water.
2-In the same time operate the pump to make
circulation of the oil-water mixture by using the
water in the bottom
3-After approximately 40min the pressure of the
vapor become 5 bar, immerse the vapor hose
inside the drain pit then open the output valve of
the vapor.
This action has two advantages:
First: increase the viscosity
8. Process steps(continue)
4-Move the suction hose of the pump to high
point to pump low viscosity oil-water mixture to
the tank
5-fill the tank, wait to settle the water in the
bottom then open the drain valve.
6-Repeat 4 and 5 until filling the tank with the oil
7-Add the chemical
8-Pump the oil through the oil line or to the
vaccum truck
9. Daily works
Sunday(3/2/2013)
1-Circulation for 3hours.
2-Filling the 10 cubic meter tank.
3-Adding the chemical.
4-Settling and drain the water.
5-Adding another amount of sludge and
repeating step 4 until exiting the oil through the
drain.
10. Daily works(continue)
6-Taking three samples at the upper, middle and
the bottom of the tank.
7-Pumping the sludge into the vacuum truck.
8-Pumping another amount of sludge directly.
from the drain pit.
11. Observations
1-Heating of the oil-water mixture in drain pit is
not done
2-One cubic meter=6.89barrel
3-Volume of vacuum truck=136 barrel
4-Samples of mixture at different points of the
tank cannot convey about the exact volume of
the raw oil, the number of raw oil barrels is
calculated roughly.
5-The vacuum truck doesn’t has certain time to
com.
12. Daily works(continue)
Monday
1-circulation and heating for 3 hours.
2-Filling the tank, settling then draining.
3-Repeating step 2 until filling the tank with oil.
4-At 4:00pm ,we took three samples and the results
of the chemical laboratory were 86%,26% and50%
.The average was 54%=4.6 cubic meter.
5-Filling the tank with oil-water mixture from the drain
pit.
6-leaving the site.
15. Problem suggestion
1-The oil-water mixture has unknown
viscosity and contains sand affects on
the pump , the pump works at certain
viscosity and temperature.
1-insturment to measure the viscosity
and thermometer
2-we have not any instrument to
measure the alignment of the pump
2-Dial gauge.
3-unknown amount of oil-water
mixture is pumped through the oil line.
3-we need to flow meter to calculate
the pumped oil where
4-Bearings or mechanical seal may
has failure at any time.
4- spare parts to replacement the
defective parts of the pumps.
5-The tank is the bottle neck of the oil
recovering process.
5-we need to large tank to increase
the amount of recovering oil with
respect to time.
16. Problem suggestion
6- clogging the hoses and pipes. 6-washing process by water must be
done after finishing the work every
day.
7-The pump1 has defective built-in
safety valve.
7-Repair it or purchasing built-out
safety valve to protect the pump.
8-Driver of the vacuum truck said the
volume of the tank is 136 barrel but
another driver said the volume is 132
barrel.
8-Measuring the volume of the tank
but we had not any instruments to
measure the lengths.
9-The previous problem with
converting the volume units, cubic
meter and barrel.
9-putting the used units and
conversions inside the contract.
10-Some times, we calculate the
volume of the oil inside the tank
roughly, where no tool to measure the
volume.
10-Ensuring that the tank is full.
11-
17. Informations
1-Immersion is the reaction between oil and
water, we have two types.
light immersion
We can separate the reaction by vibration or
heating.
heavy immersion
Chemical material will add to separate them.
2-Boiler has setup time to heating the water
approximately 40min.
18. Informations
3-we open the steam valve at 5bar.
4-Boiler operates between 6 bar and 9 bar.
5-1cubic meter=6.82 barrel.
