2. SCIENTIFIC CONCEPT
Exposure of our body to high temperature
can lead to an increase in body temperature.
Blood vessels near the skin’s surface
dissipate heat well. Therefore, blood flow in
the skin rises in cases of increased body
temperature. To help heat dissipation, sweat
production increases significantly. This is
done by over three million sweat glands
spread throughout the skin. Sweat production
and evaporation is essential to keeping body
temperature but it can lead to dehydration if
water loss is not replaced by drinking.
3. ENGAGE
Figure 1 show a man suffer
from fever. He started
sweating after taking
medicines. Why?
FIGURE

4. Answer :
- This is how our body cools down from
the fever and gets rid of the extra
heat.
9. 1. Place a clay jug in a plastic bag. Put a
humidity sensor beside it, in the plastic
bag.
2. Insert a temperature sensor in each
clay jug, through the hole in the cover.
Put humidity sensor beside the jug left in
the open air.
3. Start the discovery.
4. Pour hot water to the jugs ( about 200
ml to each one )
5. Tie the plastic bag, covering one of the
jugs.
10. 6. Run the experiment for 10 minutes
and follow changes in humidity in the
room and in the plastic bag. Follow the
temperature changes in the two jugs.
7. After 10 minutes, remove the plastic
bags covering one of the jugs.
8. Follow changes in humidity and
temperature for an additional 10 – 15
minutes.

DISCUSSIONS
1. What is the effect of covering the jug
with a plastic bag :
a) on the humidity measured in the
bag
Answer: not change
b) on the temperature change of
the water in the jug
Answer: increase
14. 2. Compare the changes in
temperature and humidity in the two
jugs
- Temperature of covered jug is slightly
increase but temperature of
uncovered jug increase drastically.
- Humidity of covered jug is does not
change and humidity of uncovered jug
slightly decrease.
15. 3) Is the humidity change after plastic
bag was removed?
- Humidity decrease immediately after
remove the plastic bag.
16. 4) During the experiment, the jug walls
are wet. Why?
- In this experiment, the jug wall
represent our body. The jug wall are
wet in order to lower water
temperature inside the jug.
17. 5) What is the real phenomenon
regarding the process of heat loss
from the jugs?
- Sweating
18. ENHANCE
Based on the both phenomena, what are the
differences of sweat production between this two
people? Explain why?
19. Answer
- sweat production of people in left
picture is less active than people in
right picture.
- this is because in hot area, people
normally sweating actively for
regulation of body temperature as
when sweat is produce, it will
evaporate and cool down our body
temperature.
20. UNIQUE FEATURES
1. Real-time measurements of the
process.
2. Concomitant measurement of various
factors affecting the process: water
temperature, difference between water
temperature and humidity.
3. Use of a model system to improve the
comprehension of the process of heat
loss, by separating the stage of water
accumulation from the stage of water
evaporation.
4. Better understanding the connection
between heat loss and humidity.
