Rachels Challenge Program
Introduction
Bullying is the number one concern in many schools today. Its an issue that affects millions of
students from all races in grades K–12. Nationwide, 1 out of 4 kids is bullied or has experienced
bullying, such as: aggressive behavior that involves making threats, spreading rumors, attacking
someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. Now that
technology is a huge part of this generation's lives, it has caused cyberbullying to increase in our
country. However, awareness on the topic is growing by the use of ads, commercials, and different
programs put into schools. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, also known as
OJJDP, is known to stop and respond to juvenile delinquency...show more content...
The Bullying Policy has been introduced around the world which, according to the 2014
observations , rates of bullying vary across studies from 9% to 98%. An observation of 80 studies
analyzing bullying involvement rates for both bullying others and being bullied for 12–18 year old
students reported an estimate rate of 35% for traditional bullying involvement and 15% for
cyberbullying involvement (Modecki, Minchin, Harbaugh, Guerra, & Runions, 2014). This means
the Bullying Prevention Policy affects million of students nationwide due to the programs created.
More specifically, females face a higher indication of bullying victimization than males do. To
explain, high percentages of each gender are faced with the aggressive acts of violence, making it
extremely hard to perform well in the school environment. Furthermore, as many as 93 percent of
students hear derogatory words about sexual orientation at least once every day at school or in their
community (violencepreventionworks). Negative name calling and harassment about sexual
orientation can be disrespectful to all students. For an example, 3 out of 4 students who are bullied
/harassed with such remarks are not identified as lesbian, gay,

Rachel's Monologue
I sit in my house with guilt rushing through my blood. How could I do this to Rachel? How could
I trick her into marrying me? Why have I focused my life on money instead of love? Why have I
betrayed her? She sits quietly. Eating two meals at once like a great white shark devouring a fish.
She concentrates on every little thing she does. For just a second I focus on her. Then my mind
clouds, and one image has appeared. Vanessa. As if she controlled my mind and altered what
thoughts I had. I have been having an affair with Vanessa, Rachel's neighbor, for a little while now.
She is as beautiful as a diamond in the sunshine. Her jet black hair falls perfectly to her shoulders,
and her bright green eyes seem as though they look into her soul. Her...show more content...
I'm so excited," I lie again. When will the truth ever escape my lips? I walk to Rachel's house
stunned. I hear the screaming even before I put my hand on the door handle. I bolt into the mansion,
frantically looking for my wife. The screaming worsens, impairing my hearing, like knives being
thrown at my head. The noise is coming from upstairs. In a panic, I sprint up to our room. As
soon as a come to the doorway, a pungent odor hits my nose. A turn my head to the left. There, I
see Rachel. Crumpled on the bathroom floor, like a used piece of paper. Blood covers the
bathroom floor, looking like a red swamp. The blue tiles are masked by the sea of red. I walk over
to her tentatively. I examine the bathroom. My eardrums feel as though they are about to burst.
My eyes meet the toilet. There's something in it. The white basin is white no more. Something is
floating in the toilet. I realize what it is. I reach for the phone as quick as lightning. I practically
punch the buttons in the phone to call the doctor. "Doctor! Doctor! You need to come to our
house right now! My wife is losing blood and my baby, my baby!" I scream into the phone. The
doctor attempts to calm me down, but it is no use. He will come as soon as possible. Rachel
looks beaten, all of the energy and power taken out of her. I dare to cross the bathroom floor to
Rachel. My tennis shoes stick to the floor like glue. I tenderly touch her. I carry her to the bath to
wash her off. The

TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature
Ellen Bayer
Conversation Essay
As reading this "journal" the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these "nature
writers" are looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts
journals are looking at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short
"The Marginal World written byRachel Carson she portrays ""The Shore is an ancient world, for as
long as there has been an earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water.
Yet it is a world that keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life.
Each time that I enter it, I gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings, sensing
that intricate fabric of life by which one creature is linked with another, and each with its
surroundings."(481). Based off this quote, we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see
nature as something that could be touched, but rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the
title "The Marginal World" was clarified in the first part of theessay by the historic war even
between both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed both landscapes as both spiritual entities.
When she talks about how the waves would always withdrawal, but never gave up, how the
boundary of the sea was indescribable, this showed us how much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. It

Essay about Biography of Rachel Carson
Biography of Rachel Carson
Rachel Carson is considered one of America's finest science and nature writers. She is best known
for her 1962 book, Silent Spring, which is often credited with beginning the environmental
movement in the United States. The book focussed on the uncontrolled and often indiscriminate use
of pesticides, especially dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (commonly known as DDT), and the
irreparable environmental damage caused by these chemicals. The public outcry Carson generated
by the book motivated the U.S. Senate to form a committee to investigate pesticide use. Her eloquent
testimony before the committee altered the views of many government officials and helped lead to
the creation of the Environmental Protection...show more content...
Carson planned to pursue a career as a writer when she received a four–year scholarship in 1925
from the Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham College, in Pittsburgh. Here she fell
under the influence of Mary Scott Skinker, whose freshman biology course altered her career
plans. In the middle of her junior year, Carson switched her major from English to zoology, and in
1928 she graduated magnum cum laude."Biology has given me something to write about," she
wrote to a friend, as quoted in Carnegie magazine. "I will try in my writing to make animals in the
woods or waters, where they live, as alive to others as they are to me."
With Skinker's help, Carson obtained first a summer fellowship at the Marine Biology Laboratory at
Woods Hole in Massachusetts and then a one–year scholarship from the Johns Hopkins University in
Baltimore. While at Woods Hole over the summer, she saw the ocean for the first time and
encountered her first exotic sea creatures, including sea anemones and sea urchins. At Johns
Hopkins, she studied zoology and genetics. Graduate school did not proceed smoothly; she
encountered financial problems and experimental difficulties but eventually managed to finish her
highly detailed master's dissertation, "The Development of the Pronephoros during the Embryonic
and Early Larval Life of the Catfish." In June 1932, she received her master's degree.
Carson was entering the job market at the height of the Great Depression. Her parents

Imagine a mother waiting for her daughter to return from school, imagine a father watching other
families reunite, and imagine a brother searching for his sister. The sound of opened gunfire rang
out loud enough to echo the hall of every high school in the United States. A mass murder of 15
people and 24 injured, one of the worst school shootings in history, left a nation shocked and
parents devastated. In less than an hour millions of families lives were altered forever. One
family in particular is the Scott family whose youngest child, Rachel Joy Scott, was shot and
killed in the Columbine High School shooting. Rachel was a young woman who spent her 17
years of life trying to have an impact on the world. She went out of her way to make other
students feel safe and included. Just the simple act of inviting someone to sit at her lunch table or
stopping an act of bullying made the day of those around her. Rachel believed that her hands,
"...will someday touch millions of people's hearts," and in her honor, the Rachel's Challenge
organization was founded. At my former high school, Winslow Township High School (WTHS),
the Rachel's Challenge program was run by Ms. Chantel Smith and a major part of this club was
an event in the gymnasium every other year called "Chain Reaction." In my junior year I was
invited to go to the event and it transformed my life for the better. I learned a lot in high school,

Hi I Am Rachel Analysis
Hi, I'm Rachel. I've been writing since I was seven years old, and mainly focus on short stories on
numerous topics. The reason why I've joined this class was to sharpen, and home my current
writing skills, and to be able to grasp a more intuitive inspiration for my ideas.
My writing is usually somewhat melancholy, as I try to look into the life a person through troubling
times, and often I try to create and compound different elements, to create as vivid of a world as I
can.
I usually just let realism and perception control my writing, which often leads to scenarios that look
into simpler ideas. Often times these ideas revolve around deep description in thoughts, and
expressions in my drafts.
I hope to improve my skills, with elements of

Analysis Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty cannot be judged objectively because what one finds
beautiful or admirable may not appeal to another. In Rachel Carson's essay "The Marginal World",
and in Scott Russell Sanders's essay, "Buckeye", both authors explore the environment around them
and focus on the beauty found in areas hidden in the simplest of landscapes; despite how Carson
finds beauty in places untouched, while Sanders finds beauty in places taunted by human touch. The
sea and the shoreline have captivated Rachel Carson, in her essay, "The Marginal World", where she
writes about the spectacles found on beaches. Along where the sea and land meet, there will be
bright–colored trash and sometimes treasures found. Carson looks past the trash and is willing to
dig for her treasure in between the land and sea. Carson states that the treasure is "half hidden,
descends into fissures and crevices, or hides under boulders." (Pg.536, para.3). The shore, the
place where sea and land coexist, hides many surprises and creates a world where Carson, as she
visits the shoreline, "gains some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meaning" (Pg.537,
para.4). She mentions how this plethora of life creates a world, which she continues to learn more
about every time she enters the "world". Another location by the beach where Carson considers it
to have "a revelation of exquisite beauty" (Pg.537, para.5) is a pool hidden beneath a cave. Hidden
by the sea and rocks, and only

Rachels And Ethics
In chapter two of the book "Problems from Philosophy", by James Rachels, the author guided us
through the process in which the topic of "Ethics and Objectivity" was discussed and argued.
Throughout the chapter, Rachels explores this topic, by discussing several philosophical discussions,
regarding ethics, and how it can change our objectivity. Rachels provides us with the following
discussions, Thrasymachus's Challenge, Is Ethics Just a Matter of Social Conventions? Ethics and
Science, and The Importance of Human Interests.
Rachels provided us with several scenarios in which our ethical opinions regarding the matter
cannot be justified or even regarded as right or wrong, because we are not to focus on morality and
our criticism of other cutlers to be respectful, and not judging. The Thrasymachus Challenge was
upheld by a sophist known as Thrasymachus, he believed that ethics were just a matter of one's
opinion, he concludes that the rules of society are playing the weak, and consumed by the societies
powerful members and used to their own advantage. Ethics and whether it was a matter of social
conventions implied that we should not think that our way of thinking is right, and...show more

I did not agree with the punishments that affected Amina Lawal, and Mukhtar Mai, but I have to
be respectful toward cultural flaws such as these. I connected with this reading, because I have
always tried to convince people to believe in what I think is true, because my way is right, and
their way is wrong. I now realize that ethics really are a matter of personal opinion. No matter how
hard I try to convince these people, most of the time it's impossible, because they have an opinion
that they will not change, because I tell them that my opinion is

Response To Rachel Thesis
While reading Rachel essay, what I really enjoy from her paper was the way she wove in her
quotes. The way she wove in her quotes through her sentences gave her to more structure as well
strong evidence to back up her claim agreeing with the sources for her research. I would like to use
that method into my writing because not only does it help your structure and seem easier to read
when reading the argument, it flows with her writing, that is something I would like to implement
into my essay. Rachel thesis was stated very clearly in her introduction which make it easier to

quote but I had no idea where it was starting from and where the research was coming from as well,
since there was only numbers and not an author's name. I think just going back and clearly that
confusing that make the introduction have more structure and be a strong intro because the rest of
the introduction was good in detail. I think the points in Rachel documented argument is being
clear, the only trouble I had throughout the essay was she put little reminder like the end of her
introduction "I decided not to ask for a full program, because there would be many more factors."
This sentence weakens her argument, because Rachel was a full program and

`` Fight Song `` By Rachel Platten
Everyone has one or two songs that really speak to them. A song that gives them hope, or impacts
them in a good or bad way. Personally, I have an abundance of songs that have impacted me. I am
always turning to music, whether I am in a good mood, bad mood, or I just want to dance. Music
is a way for people to express their ideas, emotions, and beliefs. Rachel Platten conveys these
feelings and emotions in all of her songs, including "Fight Song". Rachel was born on May 20, 1981
in New York City, but grew up in Massachusetts. Platten began her musical career on the classical
piano at the age of five. She expanded her musical abilities in high school by singing and playing
guitar. In college, Rachel continued singing by joining an all–female a cappella group. While in
college, Rachel also participated in a study abroad program to Trinidad for an internship in a
diplomat's office and at a record label. During this trip, she sang backup for a band at the
International Soca Monarch finals in 2002. This was the moment Rachel knew she wanted to pursue
music full–time.
Rachel soon graduated from Trinity College with a degree in international relations. Later she
joined a cover band called Dayz of Wild. Rachel began performing solo gigs and eventually began
touring the country. Now with four albums, and almost 30 songs, Rachel has become well–known in
her career.
"Fight Song" was released as a single by Columbia Records on February 19, 2015. The song also

Essay On Rachel's Code Of Ethics
Has anyone ever been a leader? If they have then they are an inspiration because people count on

the student's and teachers' family. She was forgiving, loving, helping, leading, and showing mercy.

because if their ideas are really good then they can use them. Even if they are bad ideas the leaders
will still care about them. Also the ideas would be about how to help make other people become
leaders. However, many believe that leading is not the most important ethics in Rachel's Code of
Ethics. They believe that it is easy to lead and that not everyone who was a leader has been a good
one. They think that leading is sometimes bad because people can be a leader but they could be a
bad leader. But actually leading is good because a lot more leaders are good ones than leader who

Rachel Scott Essay

  • 1. Rachels Challenge Program Introduction Bullying is the number one concern in many schools today. Its an issue that affects millions of students from all races in grades K–12. Nationwide, 1 out of 4 kids is bullied or has experienced bullying, such as: aggressive behavior that involves making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. Now that technology is a huge part of this generation's lives, it has caused cyberbullying to increase in our country. However, awareness on the topic is growing by the use of ads, commercials, and different programs put into schools. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, also known as OJJDP, is known to stop and respond to juvenile delinquency...show more content... The Bullying Policy has been introduced around the world which, according to the 2014 observations , rates of bullying vary across studies from 9% to 98%. An observation of 80 studies analyzing bullying involvement rates for both bullying others and being bullied for 12–18 year old students reported an estimate rate of 35% for traditional bullying involvement and 15% for cyberbullying involvement (Modecki, Minchin, Harbaugh, Guerra, & Runions, 2014). This means the Bullying Prevention Policy affects million of students nationwide due to the programs created. More specifically, females face a higher indication of bullying victimization than males do. To explain, high percentages of each gender are faced with the aggressive acts of violence, making it extremely hard to perform well in the school environment. Furthermore, as many as 93 percent of students hear derogatory words about sexual orientation at least once every day at school or in their community (violencepreventionworks). Negative name calling and harassment about sexual orientation can be disrespectful to all students. For an example, 3 out of 4 students who are bullied /harassed with such remarks are not identified as lesbian, gay, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Rachel's Monologue I sit in my house with guilt rushing through my blood. How could I do this to Rachel? How could I trick her into marrying me? Why have I focused my life on money instead of love? Why have I betrayed her? She sits quietly. Eating two meals at once like a great white shark devouring a fish. She concentrates on every little thing she does. For just a second I focus on her. Then my mind clouds, and one image has appeared. Vanessa. As if she controlled my mind and altered what thoughts I had. I have been having an affair with Vanessa, Rachel's neighbor, for a little while now. She is as beautiful as a diamond in the sunshine. Her jet black hair falls perfectly to her shoulders, and her bright green eyes seem as though they look into her soul. Her...show more content... I'm so excited," I lie again. When will the truth ever escape my lips? I walk to Rachel's house stunned. I hear the screaming even before I put my hand on the door handle. I bolt into the mansion, frantically looking for my wife. The screaming worsens, impairing my hearing, like knives being thrown at my head. The noise is coming from upstairs. In a panic, I sprint up to our room. As soon as a come to the doorway, a pungent odor hits my nose. A turn my head to the left. There, I see Rachel. Crumpled on the bathroom floor, like a used piece of paper. Blood covers the bathroom floor, looking like a red swamp. The blue tiles are masked by the sea of red. I walk over to her tentatively. I examine the bathroom. My eardrums feel as though they are about to burst. My eyes meet the toilet. There's something in it. The white basin is white no more. Something is floating in the toilet. I realize what it is. I reach for the phone as quick as lightning. I practically punch the buttons in the phone to call the doctor. "Doctor! Doctor! You need to come to our house right now! My wife is losing blood and my baby, my baby!" I scream into the phone. The doctor attempts to calm me down, but it is no use. He will come as soon as possible. Rachel looks beaten, all of the energy and power taken out of her. I dare to cross the bathroom floor to Rachel. My tennis shoes stick to the floor like glue. I tenderly touch her. I carry her to the bath to wash her off. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Andrew Han 10/24/2015 TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature Ellen Bayer Conversation Essay As reading this "journal" the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these "nature writers" are looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts journals are looking at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short "The Marginal World written byRachel Carson she portrays ""The Shore is an ancient world, for as long as there has been an earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life. Each time that I enter it, I gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings, sensing that intricate fabric of life by which one creature is linked with another, and each with its surroundings."(481). Based off this quote, we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see nature as something that could be touched, but rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the title "The Marginal World" was clarified in the first part of theessay by the historic war even between both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed both landscapes as both spiritual entities. When she talks about how the waves would always withdrawal, but never gave up, how the boundary of the sea was indescribable, this showed us how much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. • 4. Essay about Biography of Rachel Carson Biography of Rachel Carson Rachel Carson is considered one of America's finest science and nature writers. She is best known for her 1962 book, Silent Spring, which is often credited with beginning the environmental movement in the United States. The book focussed on the uncontrolled and often indiscriminate use of pesticides, especially dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (commonly known as DDT), and the irreparable environmental damage caused by these chemicals. The public outcry Carson generated by the book motivated the U.S. Senate to form a committee to investigate pesticide use. Her eloquent testimony before the committee altered the views of many government officials and helped lead to the creation of the Environmental Protection...show more content... Carson planned to pursue a career as a writer when she received a four–year scholarship in 1925 from the Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham College, in Pittsburgh. Here she fell under the influence of Mary Scott Skinker, whose freshman biology course altered her career plans. In the middle of her junior year, Carson switched her major from English to zoology, and in 1928 she graduated magnum cum laude."Biology has given me something to write about," she wrote to a friend, as quoted in Carnegie magazine. "I will try in my writing to make animals in the woods or waters, where they live, as alive to others as they are to me." With Skinker's help, Carson obtained first a summer fellowship at the Marine Biology Laboratory at Woods Hole in Massachusetts and then a one–year scholarship from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. While at Woods Hole over the summer, she saw the ocean for the first time and encountered her first exotic sea creatures, including sea anemones and sea urchins. At Johns Hopkins, she studied zoology and genetics. Graduate school did not proceed smoothly; she encountered financial problems and experimental difficulties but eventually managed to finish her highly detailed master's dissertation, "The Development of the Pronephoros during the Embryonic and Early Larval Life of the Catfish." In June 1932, she received her master's degree. Carson was entering the job market at the height of the Great Depression. Her parents Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Imagine a mother waiting for her daughter to return from school, imagine a father watching other families reunite, and imagine a brother searching for his sister. The sound of opened gunfire rang out loud enough to echo the hall of every high school in the United States. A mass murder of 15 people and 24 injured, one of the worst school shootings in history, left a nation shocked and parents devastated. In less than an hour millions of families lives were altered forever. One family in particular is the Scott family whose youngest child, Rachel Joy Scott, was shot and killed in the Columbine High School shooting. Rachel was a young woman who spent her 17 years of life trying to have an impact on the world. She went out of her way to make other students feel safe and included. Just the simple act of inviting someone to sit at her lunch table or stopping an act of bullying made the day of those around her. Rachel believed that her hands, "...will someday touch millions of people's hearts," and in her honor, the Rachel's Challenge organization was founded. At my former high school, Winslow Township High School (WTHS), the Rachel's Challenge program was run by Ms. Chantel Smith and a major part of this club was an event in the gymnasium every other year called "Chain Reaction." In my junior year I was invited to go to the event and it transformed my life for the better. I learned a lot in high school, however the most important thing may have been the lesson in compassion I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Hi I Am Rachel Analysis Hi, I'm Rachel. I've been writing since I was seven years old, and mainly focus on short stories on numerous topics. The reason why I've joined this class was to sharpen, and home my current writing skills, and to be able to grasp a more intuitive inspiration for my ideas. My writing is usually somewhat melancholy, as I try to look into the life a person through troubling times, and often I try to create and compound different elements, to create as vivid of a world as I can. I usually just let realism and perception control my writing, which often leads to scenarios that look into simpler ideas. Often times these ideas revolve around deep description in thoughts, and expressions in my drafts. I hope to improve my skills, with elements of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. Analysis Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty cannot be judged objectively because what one finds beautiful or admirable may not appeal to another. In Rachel Carson's essay "The Marginal World", and in Scott Russell Sanders's essay, "Buckeye", both authors explore the environment around them and focus on the beauty found in areas hidden in the simplest of landscapes; despite how Carson finds beauty in places untouched, while Sanders finds beauty in places taunted by human touch. The sea and the shoreline have captivated Rachel Carson, in her essay, "The Marginal World", where she writes about the spectacles found on beaches. Along where the sea and land meet, there will be bright–colored trash and sometimes treasures found. Carson looks past the trash and is willing to dig for her treasure in between the land and sea. Carson states that the treasure is "half hidden, descends into fissures and crevices, or hides under boulders." (Pg.536, para.3). The shore, the place where sea and land coexist, hides many surprises and creates a world where Carson, as she visits the shoreline, "gains some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meaning" (Pg.537, para.4). She mentions how this plethora of life creates a world, which she continues to learn more about every time she enters the "world". Another location by the beach where Carson considers it to have "a revelation of exquisite beauty" (Pg.537, para.5) is a pool hidden beneath a cave. • 9. Rachels And Ethics In chapter two of the book "Problems from Philosophy", by James Rachels, the author guided us through the process in which the topic of "Ethics and Objectivity" was discussed and argued. Throughout the chapter, Rachels explores this topic, by discussing several philosophical discussions, regarding ethics, and how it can change our objectivity. Rachels provides us with the following discussions, Thrasymachus's Challenge, Is Ethics Just a Matter of Social Conventions? Ethics and Science, and The Importance of Human Interests. Rachels provided us with several scenarios in which our ethical opinions regarding the matter cannot be justified or even regarded as right or wrong, because we are not to focus on morality and our criticism of other cutlers to be respectful, and not judging. The Thrasymachus Challenge was upheld by a sophist known as Thrasymachus, he believed that ethics were just a matter of one's opinion, he concludes that the rules of society are playing the weak, and consumed by the societies powerful members and used to their own advantage. Ethics and whether it was a matter of social conventions implied that we should not think that our way of thinking is right, and...show more content... The way she wove in her quotes through her sentences gave her to more structure as well strong evidence to back up her claim agreeing with the sources for her research. I would like to use that method into my writing because not only does it help your structure and seem easier to read when reading the argument, it flows with her writing, that is something I would like to implement into my essay. • 18. Essay On Rachel's Code Of Ethics Has anyone ever been a leader? If they have then they are an inspiration because people count on them. Rachel Scott was a really inspiring and loving person, because she always made a difference and she was a leader. She went to Columbine High School and there was a shooting there on April 20th, 1999.
