The Detonators is a nonfiction audiobook that tells the story of the 1916 Black Tom Island explosion in New York Harbor caused by German saboteurs during World War I. It follows three lawyers, John McCloy, Peaslee, and Martin, who made it their mission to solve the mystery of the attack and hold Germany responsible, which they barely accomplished before World War II. The book also portrays this time period when the rising American establishment engaged more with the world, and is a love story between John and Ellen McCloy. It provides the first full account of the attack and cover-up, which still resonates in a post-9/11 America.
