World War 2 Essay
World War II was one of the deadliest wars in history lasting from September 1, 1939 until September 2, 1945 and left over 60 million civilians and
military personnel dead (HistoryNet). World War II took the lives of many innocent civilians but it would lead to very important advances in the
culture. This war was fought between the Allies and the Axis powers, the Allies had generals Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill while the Axis powers
were lead by Hitler, Hirohito and Mussolini (HistoryNet). The start of World War II was Hitler's invasion of Poland, this would cause Poland's allies
to declare war against German (HistoryNet). The Battle of Britain, Pearl Harbor, The Battle at Midway and Normandy would each shape the outcome

Nimitz had told his men to stay back in order to allow the Japanese to attack first, then the rest of the United States ships would come into attack,
by the end of the battle, "Four Japanese aircraft carriers and 332 Japanese planes were drowned. About 5,000 Japanese killed" (Simnjanovski). Part
of the significance of this battle was for United States moral, this victory showed citizens that the United States was fighting back against Japanese
forces and winning (Till). This battle gave the United States its decisive strategic advantage, and showed how much how a global superpower the
country had become (Mason). The battle slowed down the Japanese expansion and sped up the United States, "For each major warship the Japanese
built after Midway, the Americans built 16, The Japanese built another seven carriers before the war ended; the Americans more than 100"(Till). This
battle really exposed the Japanese's ability to fight a war, it showed they lacked in industrial ability and their readiness to utilize war Intel, the Battle of
Midway just showed the Japanese were over matched (Till). Midway positioned the United States to continue their push for control of the South Pacific
and severely damaged the Japanese attacking forces (Mason). The main significance of the

The Causes of World War II Essay
The Causes of World War II At the end of the First World War all the different countries such as France, United

thought that the peace would last forever. However, as we have seen, they were terribly wrong… In 1939 a more violent and destructive war
began. This time people fought all over the world, in Asia, Europe and also in the United–States (Pearl–harbour). I shall now explain what the main
causes of the war were. The aggression began at the end of the First World War, when the Treaty of Versailles was signed and Germany was forced to
pay a lot of money to France for the reparations of the obliterated cities. Their country (Germany) had to be divided...show more content...
He wanted living space in the east and he wanted the destruction of communism. He also wanted to expand the German ideology all over Europe.
Another long–term cause was the weakness of the League of Nations. It was clearly not bound together by the strong bonds that it needed… For a
start the main super powers of the world were not in it, especially USA, and USA did begin the League of Nations. There was clearly no chance of
peace with the League of Nations, as Hitler quite easily backed out without much question! It was far too casual for it to be a success. During 1936 to
1939, Hitler was annexing different countries, like Austria and Czechoslovakia. Churchill was the prime minister of the English government at the
time, and he along with the French government decided not to react, they thought that Hitler was a "gentlemen" (this was in fact the exact word
Churchill used at this time…!) and that he will not expand to more countries… however they were very wrong! An important factor
displayed here is that the French and English didn't want to fight again; the effects of First World War were still on their mindГ
ўв‚¬В¦ they did not
want more destruction than there already had been. At the same time Hitler was taking over more and more countries (not entire countries but parts of
them… he was using a technique he called

World War II: A Short Story
Out of the 20 million Germans living in Germany, only 3 million survived World War II, and I was one of them. I was only 8 when the war began. I
had to leave my best friend at the age of 11, to move westward to my grandparents' house since our part of Germany was getting bombed. I never
heard from my father during the war, since he was at the only hospital in Germany, treating wounded soldiers miles away from my family. After the
war, when we returned, nothing was the same. It was just a normal day, September 1, 1939, to be exact when my life would forever change. My best
friend Christel and I were playing hopscotch outside when we heard a rumbling overhead. Since we were too young to understand what was
happening, we had no idea that our beloved country would soon become the main target of WWII. The noise was coming from an aircraft coming to

solve the starvation problem, whenever it was safe, we would go outside by the mountains, since we lived right next to them, picked daffodils, and
eat them. Whenever we went to the mountains my cousin and I were extremely scared of cows because we didn't know what they were capable of.
As a result, when we saw them we either ran home or stood still. I specifically remember one day because I had gone to the bakery for bread since
they were giving it out when an aircraft flew extremely close to the ground. I had to jump into a ditch on the side of the road, lay flat on my back,
and not make a sound, otherwise, I would've gotten shot. To make things better, the bakery only gave bread to adults, so I ended up putting myself in
danger for nothing. To try and prevent home invasions, there were metal pot lids on my nightstand that we would bang in the night if we ever heard or
saw anything or anyone that wasn't

Essay about World War II as a Good War
World War II as a Good War
The vast majority of Americans supported World War II (WWII) after Pearl Harbor was bombed, recognizing a fascist threat to Western democracy.
WWII was a good war. It had the ability to unite America. They united against Nazism and fascism. But even a good War has its bad times. If you
look behind what you think happened at what really happened in WWII it becomes clear that the U.S. has nothing to be proud about. WWII evolved
the entire globe, putting the world's largest economic and military powers against each other: the AXIS powers Germany, Japan and Italy against the

of the most well known attacks on the Jews was known as Night of Broken Glass. On the November 9, 1938, violence against Jews broke out

Why Do We Learn About The Holocaust
There are a lot of things that people should know about the worlds past. One of the most important though, in my opinion, is the Holocaust. The
Holocaust, WWII, was really a time of shame for the whole world at some point. Approximetly 78 contries were involved but all contries were
effect. For most people, the Holocaust is a more "touchy" subject. Noone really wants to face the fact that it happened but, we have to for the sake
of the future of the world. Some people might as "Why do we learn about the Holocaust?" or "Do we really have to bring back the terror and anguish
in the memories it brings back?" For me, the answer is clear. As humans, we must learn from our mistakes. Adolf Hitler rose to power in 1933. This

winning the war sooner if we had tactics and more men but instead, they were at work camps. Yes, the did help the war effort by building machines
and bullets, etc. but they were treated unfairly, life African Americans at this time. Blacks in America were always given the shaft. The Tuskegee
Airmen were all black fighter pilets. They were some of the best fighters the world has every seen. Most of the world does not even know about

graditude. No one should have been more proud of themselves as them. Americans were blind to what was truely happening in the East as this time.
Until soldiers liberated the camps, they didn't realize how much terror it really was. When soldiers entered the camps, people were truely living
anyones worst nightmare. People resembled skeletons. They had no food, no water, some had no family, not love. They were not living and were barely

The War I And World War II Essay
The "Thirty Years War"
World War I and World War II are the largest military conflicts in history. In 1919, Europe attempted to reconstruct the damage left by WWI. After
WWI, with the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was left destroyed and destabilized, which eventually laid out the foundation for WWII. The harsh terms
of the Treaty of Versaillesled to the aggression of Germany. The Treaty of Versailles was supposed to bring about peace, but Marshall Foch,
generalissimo of the Allied Armies in France believed that instead, it was an armistice for twenty years. The causes of WWII can easily be traced
back to the unresolved issues of WWI, thus bringing about the idea of the "Thirty Years War." WWII is the second half of a longer "Thirty Years War
because the first half, or WWI, caused economic instability, disintegration of the European order, political and social unrest and psychological damage.
The causes of WWII were aggression of Germany and the appeasement that attempted to deal with the aggression, failure of the League of Nations,
collapse of three major Empires, Germany's repudiation of the Treaty of Versailles, and the Great Depression. Ultimately, these causes can be traced
back to the unresolved issues of WWI.
The first direct cause of WWII that stemmed from WWI was the collapse of three major empires and the failure of the League of Nations. After WWI,
no government was in the same shape before the war. The empires and dynasties of the Romanovs in Russia, the

audience who can accurately comment is surely small.
What is abundantly clear is that in the massive body of films that deal with World War II, this is one that pulls no punches. It consistently explores the
unpredictable and random violence that engulfs and blinds the men within it. The plot serves only to drag a squad of characters through uncharted peril
with few fitting the normal pre–determined 'hero' tag of war films. They're off on a PR mission to find a Private James Ryan and take him home to his

While the men are constantly under threat from the Germans, they are not engaged in a key battle that will help win the war. Without a major event
to eclipse proceedings, a greater examination of each man's personal fears is allowed to shine through. This is not a film that will please everyone
and quite rightly so. But no movie about any war can seek to provide answers to every question. What Spielberg does is create a world of frightening
carnage in which a small story is played out. As such, this is an important film that deconstructs

The most gruesome and terrifying part of the war was the Holocaust; the Holocaust was the mass genocide of millions of innocent Jewish people. With
approximately 42,500 concentration camps located all throughout Germany and other parts of Europe, it was in these camps where victims were
abused, starved, used for slave labor, and mass murdered. Jehovah's witnesses and gypsies were also persecuted and murdered in German
concentration camps. It is estimated that 1.5 million children died during the Holocaust in these camps. Despite the risk of death, thousands of people
tried to helped save the Jews, by hiding them inside their homes, shipping them to safe locations, and smuggling them out of camps, some would also
push food through the fences of the camps in an attempt to feed the starving people inside. Many Jews were subject to gruesome medical experiments.

The theme that is truly in every letter, I have choose, to Mr. Reynolds, is a focus on education. Education in discussed both in regard to preparing
the students of HMHS for the war effort and for life after school whether that be in the workforce or in college. The first letter only addresses this
topic briefly, quickly praising Mr. Reynolds for the classes they now offer such as auto mechanics and aviation. And such classes are even
mentioned in the yearbook, which a whole page is dedicated to explaining how such a class is useful in finding work, as it says of the boys have
already obtained jobs working for a filling station. Grim also notes that such classes are useful for the war effort, and if any of the young men were
to go to war, their skill set would be very useful. Grim also goes on to talk about his possible future in education. This outlook on life after war is a
reflection of many of the measures put in place to try and aid the veterans coming home into regular society. As the war ended higher education
experienced a boom in attendance, Congress began passing bills to aid these young men and women into universities, such as with the GI Bill that was
passed in 1944.

continued to grow and develop during the end of the war, benefiting the Allied powers and helping them get out of the war. The end of World War II
was an era of highly significant major events, miraculous breakthroughs in technology and science, and political views and actions. Several major
occurences in the allied forces attacks on the axis powers played a major role in ending the war. One such example of these attacks was General

The largest and most notable achievement of the era was the atomic bomb, "a stunningly powerful new weapon developed during World War II that
relied upon nuclear fission... to release a tremendous amount of energy"(Falk 1). The ability to create nuclear weapons had been sought after for years
and every major power in the world was attempting to develop them to use them in the war. This included several influential people such as Albert
Einstein, who wrote a "letter about nuclear fission to president Roosevelt in October 1939" that called for immediate action regarding development of
the bomb (Isserman 3). The new information regarding nuclear fission led to breakthroughs in technology at the time that president Roosevelt kept
secret during the war in order to keep the upper hand in battle. "[Roosevelt] also authorized the Manhattan Project that produced the atomic bomb" that
was also kept confidential even within members of the government that were above the project. When the bomb was finally developed, it "exploded 45
seconds later at an altitude of 2,000 feet above the city. In a single instant, four square miles of [Hiroshima]... vanished"(Isserman 5). This devastating
attack, along with other innovations in weapons and technology, allowed "[Japan's surrender] without a single American having to die on its

Effects of World War II Essay
World War II had a large effect on America, on how we were regarded in the world, on how our culture would grow and develop, and on how our
citizens would develop and settle the land on their return. It brought people together for a while that were later torn apart, and changed the way
Americans looked at higher education. Perhaps most importantly, it brought America to the world and served it up to them as something that could
grow and become part of their culture, call it the Coca–Colonization of the world (Marling).
It had an effect on the status of women in the economy, on the ability of Blacks and Hispanics to get a step up (for a short time), and the movement of

WACs and WAVs were there to assist (About.com) in the duties that they needed to fulfill back behind the lines when asked.
It also bound the generations together as the survivors of World War I watched their families go through a similar situation as they left to fight World
War II. Those times may have been among the last where both generations understood each other and felt a mutual bond. Afterwards they were torn
apart by the results of the war on individuals and on the nation as we fought the Cold War with the Russians for decades, and perhaps no two
generations felt as connected again ever since.
Among the three highest changes to the United States were results of the G.I. Bill and the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan rebuilt Europe,
guaranteeing that the plants of America, which were still standing and producing, would bring their products to the rest of the world that had been
destroyed. It also meant that the Americans were there pushing hard for their version of democracy and education. English was taught as a second
language and grew in stature across the world. (Kenniston) American Radio was broadcast to counter the broadcasts of the Russians, as our efforts to
control the Cold War grew more intense. A war for the minds of Europeans was almost more lasting than the physical warfare it replaced.
Nevertheless, it provided for many American jobs and kept the first soldiers who returned home busy moving back to their places

The Great Depression And World War II Essay
From 1929 to 1945, two catastrophes occurred: the Great Depression and World War II. American political leaders established a cause
–effect
relationship between economic collapse and total war, based on these two events, which defined their policy approach in the post–war period. In the
1930s, American leadership, and most importantly, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, came to view economic decline, political radicalization, and
instability as forming a vicious cycle that led to utter chaos and war. Although FDR did not know the future consequences of the economic fallout, he
did know that breaking the cycle was of systemic importance. FDR's policy platform, known as the New Deal, disregarded the historical wariness for
government intervention and boldly connected economic security to freedom. Essentially, he attempted to push the American system to its limit in
order to save it. Even with conservative elements constantly attempting to restrain his initiatives, FDR expanded his focus in the latter years of the
1930s to include international affairs as war broke out in Europe, Africa, and Asia. FDR and other government elites openly talked about the
responsibility America had to build a new world order. Before further analyzing why American leadership correlated economic insecurity with armed
conflict, it is important to understand whom that leadership included. Riding a wave of public discontent, FDR won a landslide election in 1932,
ushering in an era of government

allow stories to be published in newspapers, which said how well the British people were coping. "Britain can take it" was one slogan. This was an
example of propaganda. In fact there are many examples of people being very near to total despair in the winter of 1941. The Blitz had much more
devastating effects than the government was prepared to admit: "In October 1940 Balham underground station was hit by a bomb that burst a water

was gradually extended during the war. Food was the main item, but petrol, clothing and furniture were also rationed. Rationing had two aims: 1.To
make the supplies of food go as far as possible. This was very important because Britain was not producing enough food to feed the population in
1939. 2.To make sure that the people who needed food really got it. A council was set up to work out how much nutrition different people

World War II And Its Impact On The World
What first comes to mind when you hear about World War II? Is it how it greatly affected different societies or how scary it is to think that a
terrorist like Hitler gained so much power over so many countries? Well, the real question that we should be really thinking and learning about is
what is World War II about? In general, World War II was a war that involved many countries that started after the First World War. It started in
1939 and ended during 1945. It was a very important war to all people, involving many countries such as Germany, Britain, France, Italy, United
States, etc. I guess in a way if we did not have WWII, some revolutionary industrial products would not have been designed for advancements in
warfare technology that we use today. This war was the war to end global wars for good, which shows how much of an impact WWII had overall.
World War II was important because of its global impact on the people during this time, the revolutionary industrial advancements, and it still
affects us today as a whole. Many events happened to lead up to this global six year war. Before World War II began, it was the end of the First
World War. At this time, the League of Nations formed the Treaty of Versailles, which failed to stand not so long after. Germany was against the
Treaty of Versailles because it put them into a very bad depression period because of the huge debt they had to pay after their loss in the First World

consisted of Germany, Italy, Japan and the Soviet Union. At the start of the war theaxis powers were dominating. Germany used "Blitzkrieg"
(Lighting war) tactics very successfully and overran many countries using it. But some major events occurred and turned the tide of the war to the
favour of the Allies. However two of these major events are most often talked about to be the reason that the axis powers eventually lost. One of
these events includes the Japanese attack on pearl harbour. This brought America into the war and onto the side of the Allies. The other of the two
events was instigated by Germany itself. Germany decided to attack one of their allies. This ally was the Soviet Union. There is often a lot of debate
about which of these events is greatest, that is to have had the biggest effect in the war. So the question has to be asked, was it the US entrance into the
war that made the defeat of Germany inevitable, or it caused by the German attack of the Soviet Union. In my opinion it was not the US entrance to the
war, but the German invasion of the Soviet Union that made the ultimate defeat of Germany inevitable. This is because they put

Essay on Summary of World War Two
Summary of World War Two World War II is the name commonly given to the global conflict of 1939
–1945. It is said to be the greatest and most
destructive war in world history. The World War II military operations were conducted primarily in Europe but also in Asia, Africa, and the far
islands of the Pacific as well. More than 17 million members of the armed forces perished during the conflict. It caused strain on the economic
capabilities of the major nations and left many countries on the edge of collapse. The causes of WWII are too numerous and complex to be
generalized. The following is said to be one of the main causes. At the end of WWI Europe was economically impoverished and politically divided. It

Italy entered the war in 1940 and in conjunction with Germany spread the war to Africa. Invasion of the Soviet Union by Germany on June 22,
1941 transformed the war into a general European struggle. And the attack on Hawaii on December 7, 1941, followed immediately by a
declaration of war against Japan by the United States. This converted the European war into a global one. The war ended with the unconditional
surrender of Germany on May 9, 1945 and of Japan on September 2, 1945. Before it was over a total of almost seventy nations were involved in the
conflict in varying degree, ranging from severance of diplomatic relations to full participation in the hostilities. Peace Treaties were signed in: Paris,
February 10, 1947; San Francisco, September 8, 1951; Vienna, May 15, 1955. Grandma Bernice I sat down to talk to my great–grandma Bernice about
WWII. At first I was a little worried that she wouldn't be able to recollect something that happened that long ago. However, soon I realized that at
96 years old my grandmother still had a good memory. It was 1941 and she was 38 years old. Great Grandma and Grandpa were listening to their
new radio when the news of the Pearl Harbor bombing came on. She said that the Japanese were over in the states trying to make peace when they
heard the news. She remembers just being scared to death. She was worried that grandpa would have to go. They were living in the two–story
farmhouse outside

World War 2 Essay

  • 1. World War 2 Essay World War II was one of the deadliest wars in history lasting from September 1, 1939 until September 2, 1945 and left over 60 million civilians and military personnel dead (HistoryNet). World War II took the lives of many innocent civilians but it would lead to very important advances in the culture. This war was fought between the Allies and the Axis powers, the Allies had generals Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill while the Axis powers were lead by Hitler, Hirohito and Mussolini (HistoryNet). The start of World War II was Hitler's invasion of Poland, this would cause Poland's allies to declare war against German (HistoryNet). The Battle of Britain, Pearl Harbor, The Battle at Midway and Normandy would each shape the outcome of the war and...show more content... About 5,000 Japanese killed" (Simnjanovski). Part of the significance of this battle was for United States moral, this victory showed citizens that the United States was fighting back against Japanese forces and winning (Till). This battle gave the United States its decisive strategic advantage, and showed how much how a global superpower the country had become (Mason). The battle slowed down the Japanese expansion and sped up the United States, "For each major warship the Japanese built after Midway, the Americans built 16, The Japanese built another seven carriers before the war ended; the Americans more than 100"(Till). This battle really exposed the Japanese's ability to fight a war, it showed they lacked in industrial ability and their readiness to utilize war Intel, the Battle of Midway just showed the Japanese were over matched (Till). Midway positioned the United States to continue their push for control of the South Pacific and severely damaged the Japanese attacking forces (Mason). • 2. The Causes of World War II Essay The Causes of World War II At the end of the First World War all the different countries such as France, United –Kingdom, United–States and Germany thought that the peace would last forever. However, as we have seen, they were terribly wrong… In 1939 a more violent and destructive war began. This time people fought all over the world, in Asia, Europe and also in the United–States (Pearl–harbour). I shall now explain what the main causes of the war were. The aggression began at the end of the First World War, when the Treaty of Versailles was signed and Germany was forced to pay a lot of money to France for the reparations of the obliterated cities. Their country (Germany) had to be divided...show more content... He wanted living space in the east and he wanted the destruction of communism. He also wanted to expand the German ideology all over Europe. Another long–term cause was the weakness of the League of Nations. It was clearly not bound together by the strong bonds that it needed… For a start the main super powers of the world were not in it, especially USA, and USA did begin the League of Nations. There was clearly no chance of peace with the League of Nations, as Hitler quite easily backed out without much question! It was far too casual for it to be a success. During 1936 to 1939, Hitler was annexing different countries, like Austria and Czechoslovakia. Churchill was the prime minister of the English government at the time, and he along with the French government decided not to react, they thought that Hitler was a "gentlemen" (this was in fact the exact word Churchill used at this time…!) and that he will not expand to more countries… however they were very wrong! An important factor displayed here is that the French and English didn't want to fight again; the effects of First World War were still on their mindГ ўв‚¬В¦ they did not want more destruction than there already had been. At the same time Hitler was taking over more and more countries (not entire countries but parts of them… he was using a technique he called Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. World War II: A Short Story Out of the 20 million Germans living in Germany, only 3 million survived World War II, and I was one of them. I was only 8 when the war began. I had to leave my best friend at the age of 11, to move westward to my grandparents' house since our part of Germany was getting bombed. I never heard from my father during the war, since he was at the only hospital in Germany, treating wounded soldiers miles away from my family. After the war, when we returned, nothing was the same. It was just a normal day, September 1, 1939, to be exact when my life would forever change. My best friend Christel and I were playing hopscotch outside when we heard a rumbling overhead. Since we were too young to understand what was happening, we had no idea that our beloved country would soon become the main target of WWII. The noise was coming from an aircraft coming to bomb...show more content... Whenever we went to the mountains my cousin and I were extremely scared of cows because we didn't know what they were capable of. As a result, when we saw them we either ran home or stood still. I specifically remember one day because I had gone to the bakery for bread since they were giving it out when an aircraft flew extremely close to the ground. I had to jump into a ditch on the side of the road, lay flat on my back, and not make a sound, otherwise, I would've gotten shot. To make things better, the bakery only gave bread to adults, so I ended up putting myself in danger for nothing. To try and prevent home invasions, there were metal pot lids on my nightstand that we would bang in the night if we ever heard or saw anything or anyone that wasn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Essay about World War II as a Good War World War II as a Good War The vast majority of Americans supported World War II (WWII) after Pearl Harbor was bombed, recognizing a fascist threat to Western democracy. WWII was a good war. It had the ability to unite America. They united against Nazism and fascism. But even a good War has its bad times. • 5. Why Do We Learn About The Holocaust There are a lot of things that people should know about the worlds past. One of the most important though, in my opinion, is the Holocaust. The Holocaust, WWII, was really a time of shame for the whole world at some point. Approximetly 78 contries were involved but all contries were effect. For most people, the Holocaust is a more "touchy" subject. Noone really wants to face the fact that it happened but, we have to for the sake of the future of the world. Some people might as "Why do we learn about the Holocaust?" or "Do we really have to bring back the terror and anguish in the memories it brings back?" For me, the answer is clear. • 6. The War I And World War II Essay The "Thirty Years War" World War I and World War II are the largest military conflicts in history. In 1919, Europe attempted to reconstruct the damage left by WWI. After WWI, with the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was left destroyed and destabilized, which eventually laid out the foundation for WWII. The harsh terms of the Treaty of Versaillesled to the aggression of Germany. The Treaty of Versailles was supposed to bring about peace, but Marshall Foch, generalissimo of the Allied Armies in France believed that instead, it was an armistice for twenty years. The causes of WWII can easily be traced back to the unresolved issues of WWI, thus bringing about the idea of the "Thirty Years War." WWII is the second half of a longer "Thirty Years War because the first half, or WWI, caused economic instability, disintegration of the European order, political and social unrest and psychological damage. The causes of WWII were aggression of Germany and the appeasement that attempted to deal with the aggression, failure of the League of Nations, collapse of three major Empires, Germany's repudiation of the Treaty of Versailles, and the Great Depression. Ultimately, these causes can be traced back to the unresolved issues of WWI. The first direct cause of WWII that stemmed from WWI was the collapse of three major empires and the failure of the League of Nations. After WWI, no government was in the same shape before the war. Some recoiled at the graphic violence, others praised the realism, while some questioned whether war is really like that at all. The percentage of an audience who can accurately comment is surely small. What is abundantly clear is that in the massive body of films that deal with World War II, this is one that pulls no punches. It consistently explores the unpredictable and random violence that engulfs and blinds the men within it. The plot serves only to drag a squad of characters through uncharted peril with few fitting the normal pre–determined 'hero' tag of war films. They're off on a PR mission to find a Private James Ryan and take him home to his mother, who is shortly to learn that her other three sons are dead. While the men are constantly under threat from the Germans, they are not engaged in a key battle that will help win the war. Without a major event to eclipse proceedings, a greater examination of each man's personal fears is allowed to shine through. This is not a film that will please everyone and quite rightly so. But no movie about any war can seek to provide answers to every question. What Spielberg does is create a world of frightening carnage in which a small story is played out. And such classes are even mentioned in the yearbook, which a whole page is dedicated to explaining how such a class is useful in finding work, as it says of the boys have already obtained jobs working for a filling station. Grim also notes that such classes are useful for the war effort, and if any of the young men were to go to war, their skill set would be very useful. Grim also goes on to talk about his possible future in education. This outlook on life after war is a reflection of many of the measures put in place to try and aid the veterans coming home into regular society. As the war ended higher education experienced a boom in attendance, Congress began passing bills to aid these young men and women into universities, such as with the GI Bill that was passed in 1944. This included several influential people such as Albert Einstein, who wrote a "letter about nuclear fission to president Roosevelt in October 1939" that called for immediate action regarding development of the bomb (Isserman 3). The new information regarding nuclear fission led to breakthroughs in technology at the time that president Roosevelt kept secret during the war in order to keep the upper hand in battle. • 13. Effects of World War II Essay World War II had a large effect on America, on how we were regarded in the world, on how our culture would grow and develop, and on how our citizens would develop and settle the land on their return. It brought people together for a while that were later torn apart, and changed the way Americans looked at higher education. Perhaps most importantly, it brought America to the world and served it up to them as something that could grow and become part of their culture, call it the Coca–Colonization of the world (Marling). It had an effect on the status of women in the economy, on the ability of Blacks and Hispanics to get a step up (for a short time), and the movement of returning soldiers to houses they could purchase in the suburbs to get...show more content... It also bound the generations together as the survivors of World War I watched their families go through a similar situation as they left to fight World War II. Those times may have been among the last where both generations understood each other and felt a mutual bond. Afterwards they were torn apart by the results of the war on individuals and on the nation as we fought the Cold War with the Russians for decades, and perhaps no two generations felt as connected again ever since. Among the three highest changes to the United States were results of the G.I. Bill and the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan rebuilt Europe, guaranteeing that the plants of America, which were still standing and producing, would bring their products to the rest of the world that had been destroyed. It also meant that the Americans were there pushing hard for their version of democracy and education. English was taught as a second language and grew in stature across the world. (Kenniston) American Radio was broadcast to counter the broadcasts of the Russians, as our efforts to control the Cold War grew more intense. A war for the minds of Europeans was almost more lasting than the physical warfare it replaced. • 14. The Great Depression And World War II Essay From 1929 to 1945, two catastrophes occurred: the Great Depression and World War II. American political leaders established a cause –effect relationship between economic collapse and total war, based on these two events, which defined their policy approach in the post–war period. In the 1930s, American leadership, and most importantly, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, came to view economic decline, political radicalization, and instability as forming a vicious cycle that led to utter chaos and war. Although FDR did not know the future consequences of the economic fallout, he did know that breaking the cycle was of systemic importance. FDR's policy platform, known as the New Deal, disregarded the historical wariness for government intervention and boldly connected economic security to freedom. Essentially, he attempted to push the American system to its limit in order to save it. Even with conservative elements constantly attempting to restrain his initiatives, FDR expanded his focus in the latter years of the 1930s to include international affairs as war broke out in Europe, Africa, and Asia. FDR and other government elites openly talked about the responsibility America had to build a new world order. Before further analyzing why American leadership correlated economic insecurity with armed conflict, it is important to understand whom that leadership included. Riding a wave of public discontent, FDR won a landslide election in 1932, ushering in an era of government Get more content on HelpWriting.net

When war broke out in September 1939, the British government expected that the effects on life in Britain would be very serious. In 1944 and 1945 Britain was attacked from the air once again. At the time the government would only allow stories to be published in newspapers, which said how well the British people were coping. "Britain can take it" was one slogan. This was an example of propaganda. In fact there are many examples of people being very near to total despair in the winter of 1941. The Blitz had much more devastating effects than the government was prepared to admit: "In October 1940 Balham underground station was hit by a bomb that burst a water main. Sixty–four people drowned. This story was never released until after the war, because many people sheltered from air raids in underground stations. If they had found out what had happened there might well have been panic" (Talcott, pg 46). Rationing was introduced in January 1940 and was gradually extended during the war. Food was the main item, but petrol, clothing and furniture were also rationed. Rationing had two aims: 1.To make the supplies of food go as far as possible. This was very important because Britain was not producing enough food to feed the population in 1939. 2.To make sure that the people who needed food really got it. A council was set up to work out how much nutrition different people Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. World War 2 : Argumentative Essay World War 2 Argumentative Essay World War 2 was a massive war which engulfed the whole world from 1939– 1935. There were 2 different sides in the war. These two sides were the Allies and the axis. At the start of the war, the Allies consisted of Great Britain and all of its colonies (such as Australia) and France. The Axis consisted of Germany, Italy, Japan and the Soviet Union. At the start of the war theaxis powers were dominating. Germany used "Blitzkrieg" (Lighting war) tactics very successfully and overran many countries using it. But some major events occurred and turned the tide of the war to the favour of the Allies. However two of these major events are most often talked about to be the reason that the axis powers eventually lost. One of these events includes the Japanese attack on pearl harbour. This brought America into the war and onto the side of the Allies. The other of the two events was instigated by Germany itself. Germany decided to attack one of their allies. This ally was the Soviet Union. There is often a lot of debate about which of these events is greatest, that is to have had the biggest effect in the war. So the question has to be asked, was it the US entrance into the war that made the defeat of Germany inevitable, or it caused by the German attack of the Soviet Union. In my opinion it was not the US entrance to the war, but the German invasion of the Soviet Union that made the ultimate defeat of Germany inevitable. This is because they put Get more content on HelpWriting.net
