1. GREEN SULAM COMPETITION
The Sustainable Education Group and the Centre for Sustainability and Serenity is organizing a
Green SULAM competition as part of the efforts in cultivating awareness among USIM
members regarding the importance of maintaining a sustainable and serene environment.
OBJECTIVE
This competition aims to uphold USIM’s aspirations in increasing the awareness of creating
sustainable and serene environment among students and academician in USIM. This
competition will be one of the catalysts to realize USIM’s sustainable and serenity goals.
DESCRIPTION
GREEN SULAM COMPETITION is a competition that showcases ideas on SULAM projects that
incorporates SULAM pedagogy with USIM’s agenda of Sustainability and Serenity.
The duration of the competition is : 25th May – 30th July 2021
The criteria of GREEN SULAM
i. The project is based on service-learning pedagogy.
ii. The project includes principles of SULAM and USIM’s agenda of Sustainability and
Serenity that is based on Sustainable Development Goals and Maqasid Syariah.
iii. The GREEN SULAM project can either be at the idea stage, ongoing or has been
implemented.
iv. All projects must include a video presentation (youtube link/ MP4) explaining the
project.

2. DEFINITION OF SULAM
SULAM, Service-Learning Malaysia-University for Society is a teaching and learning approach
that combines formal curriculum and community services. Through SULAM, the credit value of
the university course and the community engagement hours are included in the student
learning time.
DEFINITION OF USIM’S AGENDA OF SUSTAINABILITY AND SERENITY
USIM highlights the importance of maintaining biodiversity wealth and at the same time
implements sustainable development based on the 17 SDG and the five principles of Maqasid
Syariah.

COMPETITION RULES
i. At least ONE entry from each faculty. Faculties are welcomed to submit more than one entry.
ii. All entries must provide a video presentation (10-12 minutes).
iii. All entries must provide a written extended abstract (1500 words).
OPPORTUNITIES
i. The Project Leader/Presenter will be issued with Invited Speaker appointment letter.
ii. All extended abstracts will be published as a book chapter.
iii. E-certificates will be given to all members.
