  • 4. THE THREE PILLARS: SOCIAL, ECONOMICAL, ENVIRONMENTAL
  • 7. BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS) The SDGs are a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015. They provide a framework for addressing the world's most pressing economic, social, and environmental challenges. The goals aim to achieve a more sustainable and equitable future for all people and the planet by the year 2030. Each goal focuses on a specific issue, such as poverty eradication, quality education, gender equality, climate action, and clean energy. The SDGs are interconnected, recognizing that progress in one goal often contributes to progress in others. They are universal and apply to all countries, regardless of their economic or social development. The goals emphasize the importance of partnerships and collective action involving governments, civil society, businesses, and individuals. Achieving the SDGs requires active participation and contributions from various stakeholders, including educators. Educators play a crucial role in raising awareness, promoting understanding, and integrating the SDGs into teaching and learning. By integrating the SDGs into education, teachers can help empower students to become active global citizens and contribute to positive change.
  • 8. HIGHLIGHT ON THE IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRATING SDGS INTO EDUCATION •SDGs provide a framework for addressing global challenges and building a sustainable future. •SDG integration fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity among students. •By integrating SDGs, we can promote cross-curricular connections and provide a more holistic education. •SDGs help students develop empathy, cultural awareness, and respect for diversity. •Integrating SDGs prepares students for the complex and interconnected world they will inherit. •SDG integration enhances students' understanding of real-world issues and encourages them to take action. •By integrating SDGs, we can address the needs of marginalized groups and promote social justice. •SDGs provide a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and project-based
  • 9. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 4 (SDG 4) - QUALITY EDUCATION: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Provide universal access to free, equitable, and quality primary and secondary education. Ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care, and pre-primary education. Ensure equal access to affordable and quality technical, vocational, and tertiary education. Eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to education for vulnerable groups. Enhance the skills and knowledge of teachers through training, professional development, and support. Build and upgrade educational facilities that are accessible, safe, inclusive, and conducive to learning. Promote inclusive and non-discriminatory education, fostering respect for diversity and promoting global citizenship. Ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development.
  • 10. SDG 4 AND NEP 2020 Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) - Quality Education, and the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) of India both emphasize the importance of providing inclusive, equitable, and quality education. Here are some key points that highlight the connection between SDG 4 and NEP 2020 in the Indian context: Inclusive Education:  SDG 4 aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all, and NEP 2020 emphasizes the need for an inclusive education system that caters to the diverse needs of all learners, including those from marginalized and disadvantaged backgrounds. Early Childhood Education:  SDG 4 emphasizes the importance of early childhood development and pre-primary education, and NEP 2020 recognizes the significance of early childhood care and education in providing a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Quality Education:  Both SDG 4 and NEP 2020 emphasize the need for quality education that focuses on holistic development, critical thinking, and the acquisition of 21st-century skills.
  • 11. SDG 4 AND NEP 2020 Technology in Education:  SDG 4 highlights the role of technology in enhancing access to quality education, and NEP 2020 emphasizes the integration of technology in education to promote personalized and adaptive learning. Teacher Training and Professional Development:  SDG 4 emphasizes the need to enhance the skills and knowledge of teachers, and NEP 2020 recognizes the importance of continuous professional development for teachers to improve pedagogical practices and promote quality education. Multidisciplinary and Vocational Education:  NEP 2020 promotes a multidisciplinary approach to education, encouraging students to explore subjects across various disciplines, which aligns with the broad learning outcomes advocated by SDG 4. NEP 2020 also emphasizes the integration of vocational education and skills training to enhance employability. Education Governance and Monitoring:  NEP 2020 highlights the importance of effective governance, monitoring, and evaluation mechanisms in the education system, aligning with SDG 4's emphasis on strengthening education systems and policies to monitor progress and improve learning outcomes.
  • 12. THE ROLE OF SCHOOL TEACHERS IN PROMOTING SDGS: Teachers are key agents of change in promoting SDGs as they have direct influence and interaction with students. Teachers play a critical role in raising awareness about the SDGs among students, helping them understand the goals and their significance. Teachers can integrate SDGs into their curriculum by aligning learning objectives, activities, and assessments with the goals. Teachers have the power to inspire and motivate students to take action and contribute towards achieving the SDGs. Teachers can create a classroom environment that fosters a sense of global citizenship, empathy, and respect for diversity. Teachers can encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students by exploring real- world issues related to the SDGs. Teachers can provide opportunities for students to engage in project-based learning, where they tackle local or global challenges aligned with the SDGs. Teachers can guide students in reflecting on their own behaviors and actions, encouraging sustainable practices and responsible consumption. Teachers can collaborate with other teachers, schools, and community organizations to create a collective effort towards promoting SDGs.
