The Angry Eye Experiment Reaction Paper
Watching this experiment and hearing the comments on how much worse it was for
anyone who is not white made me realize how often everyone turns a blind eye towards acts of
racism. I am not racist, but I realize now that by not saying anything when I hear a racism
comment that I am not changing a thing. Also, it did not know that people say that they do not
see their friends as black. I agree that it is a blatant lie because, otherwise, they would not even
mention it. What those people went through was only a fraction of the actual torment people of
other races went through. They were not in danger of any physical harm and were only
subjected to minor emotional disturbance, but they acted like it was the worst thing they have
ever been through. What happened in that room barely scratched the surface of the harassment
that others are put through on a daily basis. If anyone can be a part of that or even watch that
and continue using racial slurs or acting on biased opinion, then they have no heart and should
get back ten times what they give out. However, revenge is not always the answer. To make a
difference people need to understand that the color of your skin does not define your character or
your abilities. Jane Elliot was completely correct when she said that the experiment had made
the point she wanted but, to driver her point in and never let those people forget it, she had to
continue with it. Everyone can be sorry there is racism but, if nobody lifts a finger to change
anything, the problem is never fixed and people will always be left out or treated unfairly. I
believe that this experiment needs to be done repeatedly with new subjects each time so a real
difference can be made even if it is a small one.
