SHORT FILM
6. EXAMPLES OF
DIFFERENT
MOVIE GENRE
POSTERS
Ten Inch Hero: this film is a romantic comedy. You can tell that it
is a comedy by the font used, which is large and brightly
coloured, and a strange shape, suggesting it’s not formal, but
more jovial. “Fall in Love” is also on the poster, confirming it’s
‘rom’ within ‘romantic comedy’.
Shaun of the Dead: this film is a comedy thriller, and we can see
by the red which is immediately seen as threatening. The
catchphrase “Ever felt like you were surrounded by zombies?”
suggests that it is a comedy as it isn’t something that people tend
to think about.
Captain America: The Winter Solider: this is an action thriller, and
we can see this by the positions the characters are standing, as if
they are of high importance. As well as this, they are wearing
uniforms, suggesting some kind of military background. The
burning aircraft and dark sky suggest darkness within the film.
7. • Radio trailers tend to emphasise the
sounds within the movie, to give the
audience as much of a visual
interpretation as they can, without
them being able to see it.
• Visual trailers will be able to emphasise
whatever the audience will see, making
it much more powerfully persuading.
• One of the best trailers I’ve seen in a
long time is Captain America: The
Winter Solider, I watched it plenty of
times, it was the music as well as the
visual that attracted me.
