How The Godfather Changed Hollywood
For many Italian–Americans, The Godfather changed the way that they were viewed in American society in a good way. Megan Gambino of the
Smithsonian interviewed Tom Santopietro, the author of The Godfather effect. In the interview, Santopietro states "The film changed Hollywood
because it finally changed the way Italians were depicted on film. It made Italians seem like more fully realized people and not stereotypes. It was a
film in Hollywood made by Italians about Italians. Previously, it had not been Italians making the mobster films featuring Italian gangsters" (2012). In
the movie we get to see a close–knit family that is all about tradition, love, and loyalty; however, it also takes a twist with illegal activity and murder.
Kirkus Review stated "Broadway theater manager Santopietro (Sinatra in Hollywood, 2008, etc.) asserts that with the 1972 release of Francis Ford
Coppola's The Godfather, "notions of ethnicity in America had been upended in rather spectacular fashion" especially for young Italian–Americans
who felt conflicted about many aspects of their heritage, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie itself depicts real world situations of what we know about the mob today, the John Gotti's, the Genovese family and even La Cosa Nostra.
According to www.fbi.gov "They are some of the most notorious and widespread of all criminal societies" (2010). These Italian–American gangsters
were involved in prostitution, drug trafficking, gambling, murder, money laundering and racketeering, many of the things that we see in The
Godfather. Mafia families have struck fear in the lives of many and their communities. Murders would occur in the middle of the street in broad
daylight. Communities were downtrodden with narcotics, alcoholics, and gangsters until the government stepped in to start indicting these individuals,
locking them up and throwing away the

Similarities Between Saturday Night Fever And The Godfather
In Saturday Night Fever, portrayal of scenes and actions that were once prohibited due to the Hays Code allowed the characters to develop while
giving a sense and portrayal of who Italian Americans are. Many of the characteristics exhibited by Tony, his friends and other characters relate to
the first time they were explored and used in the film, The Godfather. For example, in Saturday Night Fever, there is a scene in which Tony and his
friends are beat up by the Barracudas (Hispanic gang) and vice versa, when they go to get payback and avenge their friend Gus who was hospitalized
(AFI). This relates to scenes in which the Godfather displayed brutality, blood, and mob violence (Browne). In general, such violence would be

Film Review The film, The Godfather, was released on March 24, 1972. The time period that the movie was set in was 1945, which was the time
period of the Mafia. This film is based around two families fighting throughout the film. One of the main characters, Michael Corleone, changes
throughout the movie deciding whether or not he should join in on the family business and take his fathers position (Vito Corleone) as Godfather. As a
viewer, I did not enjoy this film due to the darkness and wickedness behind it. Although, many believe it to be one of the greatest movies of all time, in
my opinion, the film was not a success.

Color being one element, was really used in the film helped and played a major role to help the viewer see the obscurity and wickedness that lied
within all of the characters. The colors were used to also manipulate the way your mood fluctuated throughout the movie. Another strong element
used was the set design. The set was used to show what time period the movie was set in, but also where the Mafia was mainly located throughout
the movie. The dialogue furthermore showed and helped the viewer really get the feel of where the characters are from, and their culture. The
costumes additionally played a major role in showing where the characters were from in the movie. The costumes helped audiences get the full
ambiance of the time period and moods of the characters. Also, there are many scenes in the movie that make you anxious and on the edge of your
seat. A specific example would be the scene of the shooting of Sollozo and Mcclusky. This scene makes you question many things and you do not
know what is happening when Sollozo is speaking in Italian, which just adds suspense to the viewer's emotions. The camera pans out of Michael's
face and then, BOOM! Sollozo and Mcclusky are dead. This is just one of the scenes that kept you in the verge of your seat and through all of these
elements, there was a permutation that worked in harmony to make

Mise-En-Scene, Editing And Cinematographic Elements In The...
"The Godfather", a crime–noir film produced in 1972, is about an aged patriarch of a famous mafia dynasty that transfers control of his business to his
disinclined son. It was directed by Francis Ford Cappola and stars actors such as Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. The film's numerous achievements,
specifically in the opening sequence, stem from the exemplary utilization and integration of misГ©–en–scene, editing, and cinematographic elements.
Mise–en–scene is a key element in the representation of a character. For example, the film begins with a slow jazz soundtrack, a characteristic of
thriller films during the 1970's. Then a plain black background streches across the screen, setting the stage for what is about to appear in front of us.

This scene is edited with a very slow pace that creates a sense of calm and suggests the control that Don Corleone has over the situation. The
sequence begins with a close up on Amerigo Bonasera as he stares in the camera while it zooms out, telling the audience about his daughter's rape.
William Reynolds and Peter Zinner, the lead editors of the film, used this shot, that spans the next three minutes of the film, to add a sense of
insecurity and rising tension. It also is used to reveal Bonasera is talking to a mysterious figure disguised by the shadows and that three other men
are present, but without giving the setting of the scene or who these men are. Then, they break the three minute shot by giving the audience their first
glance at the mysterious figure in the shadows. They cut to a medium shot of Don Corleone, the leader of this organized crime dynasty, finally
revealing this shadowy figure to the audience, relieving them of some tension. The camera shifts location again in order to reveal the scene,
something like an establishing shot. Here, they reveal four male characters, all dressed in suits, and the only lights coming from the slats in the blinds
and the sole artificial light on the right side of the room. Don Corleone is also placed in the center of this shot with every other character facing him,
giving him a sense of power. Next, they cut to a medium shot of the godfather sitting

Childhood In My Childhood
Decapitated baby dolls and rated R movies shaped my childhood. Now, before you throw my essay in the round file and write me off as a potential
serial killer, hear me out. I was not raised like many of my peers. Obviously, most of their parents made sure that the movies they viewed were age
appropriate and I am pretty sure they would not have been so passive if the found dismembered baby dolls in their daughter's playroom. However, my
parents were different... very different. Instead of watching the typical family movies such as Matilda and Toy Story, my family spent our weekends
watching The Matrix Series and The Godfather Trilogy. While most may not agree with these customs, my seven–year–old mind was far more thrilled
at hearing Marlon Brando saying "kiss the ring" rather than Woody talk about snakes and boots. Besides, I closed my eyes during the intimate scenes so
that makes everything okay, right?
No, it does not; however, this rather peculiar childhood has shaped most of my strongest ideals and assisted in the modeling of my present self. In
the movie, Don Corleone (Marlon Brando), says "a man who [does not] spend time with his family can never be a real man". This quote has
remained a valued aphorism in my family and my dedication to it is displayed in the way I am perceived by others. From birthday parties to sports,
my family does everything together, so much so, people are surprised and sometimes worried if they notice a member of our group did not accompany

The Godfather Thesis
Director Francis Ford Coppola's dramatization The Godfather is a standout amongst the most venerated, acclaimed and powerful works of the
twentieth century. It is a movie magnum opus of business and basic achievement as such achieving that it routinely beat proficient and individual
records as the best film ever. With a story so soaked with profound subjects, solid characters, brilliant exhibitions, jazzy heading, and an ageless
soundtrack, there ought not be any miracle of why this work has stood the trial of time. Notwithstanding each one of those traits is the presentation of
rich social topics and changes all through the whole film.

A case of this would be that the Don never takes cash from customers and partners for noting a solicitation, for example, a hit, rather requiring
something more individual, for example, fellowship, administration, or favors. This is entirely clear in the opening scene when a funeral director
approaches the Don for equity against two men who frightfully assaulted and beat his little girl. He offers Vito cash for the hit which significantly insults
The Godfather. Simply after the funeral director understands the unintended offense and offers Vito his kinship does the Don assent to his solicitation.

Essay On The Godfather
One of the greatest films and novels of all time, The Godfather by Mario Puzo is the book that I chose to write my report about. This book falls
under the drama and crime fiction genres, due to its dramatic story of people being shot and murdered. The Godfather takes place in New York during
the years 1945–1955, right after World War II. Most of the story is written from a narrator 's perspective, save for two points in the book in which
the story becomes a first person point of view. One of the themes portrayed in the novel is that family always comes first, even if it isn't a
blood–related family, but a crime family. The novel's theme is primarily that of loyalty, which is a crucial plot device because some of the Corleone

His role in The Godfather is that of the Don, or a commanding officer. He climbs the social ladder in the Corleone family, starting as a member and
gains a higher reputation by killing the man believed to have orchestrated the attacks against his father, Virgil Sollozzo, and a corrupt police captain
paid by Sollozzo. Michael then travels to Sicily and doesn't move up in the family for a while. Two years later, his brother Sonny Corleone, who was
the acting head of the family after their father was injured, was shot in a phone booth. Michael then returns to America to help out with the family: he
assumes Sonny's role as his father's heir apparent, a Vice President who steps in when the Don is injured or killed. Once the Don retires, he becomes
the new Don and takes over as the head of the crime family.
There are many minor characters in The Godfather due to the Corleone family's immense size and intricate relationships with other crime families and
policemen. The first Don mentioned in the book, Michael's father Vito Corleone, was minor character. Sonny Corleone was the successor to the Don
because he was his son, he was the most qualified of the Don's sons to take over the business and he did so until he was murdered a short while after
in a phone booth. Michael and Sonny had one other blood brother, Fredo Corleone, who doesn't play a big role in the family. Fredo was with the Don

money making ordeal such as the Luciano Family and the Managano Family. It became aware to the government, due to the many bosses that were
coming from all around to get together in Apalachin, New York. The story became nationwide after many agents from the FBI caught the mobsters red

then keep an eye out, as it was harder for meetings to be arranged from that point

The Godfather is a 1972 American crime drama directed by Francis Coppola based on the 1969 novel by Mario Puzo. The film stars Marlin
Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a powerful family business of crime. The story is centred on Michael Corleone, and how he grows from a
young man wanting nothing to do with the family business to a ruthless Don who will stop at nothing to exact his revenge. The movie grossed around
286 million dollars and is touted as one of the most successful films of all time, and in 1990 it was selected for preservation in the United States Film
Registry. The film portrays many different character stereotypes commonly used in the Crime genre, and this helps to allow the viewer to identify with
the characters better, as they already have an understanding of what their intentions are.
Michael Corleone is the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone and, despite his families criminal background, he doesn 't want anything to do with his
father 's bussiness. He can be considered the main protagonist of the story, however he fits under the character stereotype of the Villain, in accordance
with the stock characters stated by narrative theorist Vladimir Propp. Michael is a returned war hero and is first introduced attending his sister Connie
's wedding with his girlfriend, Kay. Much of Michael character is introduced to the viewer in this scene, primarily his disinterest in the family business.

Michael Corleone's Transformation
In this paper I will argue that in his film, The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola orchestrates the filmic elements (especially: editing and
mise–en–scГ©ne) to give the audience an intimate view of the complex world of a Mafia Don: Coppola's techniques sensitively portray the life and
transformation of Michael Corleone; he leaves his status as a family outsider to become king of the underworld.
Michael is the son of Vito Corleone, Don of the Corleone Crime Family1. The story of The Godfather is the story of both Vito and Michael. Vito
passes away and leaves his throne to Michael, who steps out of a seemingly innocent world ordinary American life to receive his father's crown and to
assume control of the Corleone Family. As my thesis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is fat and he moves slowly, though thoughtfully. In a distinct contrast, Al Pacino's Michael resembles a nervous and self
–conscious prince. He sulks
at the table. He speaks quickly in a high voice and emphasizes his words like an adolescent.
Though marked, their physical differences are not as important as the differences between their worlds, their settings. Vito appears in an almost pitch
black room. The only things in the room which are lit are Vito's face, his desk, a lamp in the background and the face of any one of Vito's four
suppliants. And the seclusion of the this world is depicted by the size and sounds of the office: though it is not claustrophobic, the room is quite small;
and there are no background sounds, only the main conversation.
In sharp contrast, Michael appears with Kay as opposed to the entirely male world of his father. His father is inside a dark office, while Michael is
outside at a lively Italian wedding reception. Children are running everywhere, men and women are dancing, eating, and drinking. The setting is bright,
colorful, open, and full of music and laughter.
The distinctions between these two settings are polar, as are the characteristics of these two men who epitomize their respective worlds. Michael lives
in traditional America; he attended an Ivy League school; he is a decorated war hero. Vito lives in the underworld; he is

Godfather Goodfellas Essay
The Godfather and Goodfellas are both considered "mafia movies." Both of these films portray some form of organized crime committed by Italians.
They mutually romanticize the mob lifestyle and depict it with pure clarity. Although both of these movies portray the lives of the same kind of
people, they are more than just a simple characterization. Violence plays a major role in each of these films. The Godfather and Goodfellas are
obviously very similar. However, they also have several aspects that differ from one another.
In both The Godfather and Goodfellas, violence penetrates the daily lives of both Henry Hill and Michael Corleone. Although violence is a key factor

Many of these murders happen spontaneously and are not organized. Some of these scenes are shocking, primeval, and appalling. These moments leave
the viewers stunned and disoriented.
Unlike Goodfellas, the violence in The Godfather occurs mysteriously and almost magically. The organized crimes and murders simply occur
without any mistake in this film. One of the bloody scenes that portray this is the one where Woltz' bed is covered in blood. This scene was very
slick the way Tom Hagen slipped away without being noticed by anyone. Hagen's visit was to intimidate Woltz by proving that if he had to kill him,
he would be able to. Another very violent act was Sonny's death. This plan was organized carefully by Don Emilio Varzini with the help of Carlo
Rizzi, his brother–in–law. Earlier in the film Sonny had beaten Carlo after he heard Carlo was abusing his sister Connie. To get back at him, Carlo
viciously beats Connie using his belt. When Sonny hears of this he speeds to Connie's apartment. As he approaches, Barzini's men surround Sonny
and viciously shoot him to death. This act was also thought out very cautiously by masterminds. Towards the end of the movie, the planned killing
of the five other mob leaders is revealed. Michael orders all of the head of the families to be killed so he can be the top Don. Although this scene is
violent, it is masked by the ceremony of Michael becoming Connie's son's godfather. The mass murder was perfectly planned to

Vito Corleone: The Godfather
Vito Corleone, the "godfather" of the family is a very diverse character. He is intelligent, clever and an excellent speaker. Like the tagline of the
movie, he frequently makes an "offer he can't refuse". Another trait is his ability to read people, especially during Bonasera's plea to the don. He is
also a ruthless person, if he cannot deal with words, guns and bullets will. Even with his supposed evil, he is seen as many as a very loving father
and many people love him. He was clearly hurt when he found out Michael gunned down Sollozo and McClusckey, indicating he loved Michael
that he didn't want his son to be part of any crime. He is able to separate blood and water, and embrace them both, evident when he adopted and
raised Tom Hagen like he was a son. He also show a deep sense of morality, not agreeing to the dawning drug business at first, and when he did agree,
he proposed that it should never be sold to kids and near schools. Near the end of his life, he became more relaxed and was able to enjoy his remaining

He favors a more direct confrontation than a more diplomatic route. He often acts before thinking, demonstrated when he beat Carlo on the street for
abusing his sister. He is also a man of passion and appetite, cheating on his wife. In the end, his recklessness got the better of him when he was
ambushed in a toll booth. Tom Hagen is the opposite of Sonny. He is meek and outspoken on his words, mostly because he is the family lawyer. Being
the family councillor, he is very diplomatic when dealing with the other families, which Sonny disliked at first. His cautious nature makes him an
excellent adviser but most of his peers belittle him during wartime. B.

The Rise Of Organized Crime
The rise of organized crime In The United States By Jeremy King Welcome to the 1920s a truly new era. Automobiles were becoming affordable to
the average American the Great War had ended and the nation was heading into a time of prosperity and temperance. On January 16th 1920 the
production transportation and sale of intoxication liquors was made illegal. The nation was dry, at least that's what the country wanted. In reality
the nation was about to be flooded with alcohol. This is when organized crime really starts to develop in the United States. In this paper we will

from birth until their fate be it death imprisonment or the departure from organized crime. Along the way we will meet other key players including

The most perfect example of their family values is when Don comes home from the Hospital and the family ahs a big dinner, and they do not talk

killings of the movie.
The director of the movie(Frances Ford Copolla) has a very good use of montage, and long shots. Capolla starts off the movie with an extrodonary
shot of an undertaker saying "this is America." Which gives a glimpse of how haunting the film is going to be? A good use of long shots is perfect
when the camera pans around the long shot as Mikey takes on the responsibility of getting revenge for his fathers shooting. Also a good example of
Copolla's long shots is when the film is about to end and there is a shot of Diane Keaton looking so innocent and really knowing nothing of the
family business. In the film, montage is used in the baptism scene. The shots cut when all the highly religious questions are asked of Mike, and then
the shots start cutting back in forth from the killings of the head's of the other top five family's and the baptism, portraying mike as a changing
person(a god man to an evil one.)

The Godfather Themes
The Godfather is heralded as one of the greatest films of all time. Produced in 1972 by Albert S. Ruddy based off the novel written by Mario Puzo in
1969. The Godfather is a mob based drama about a very powerful Italian–American crime family headed by Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando). The
movie is sent in New York City during the early 1940s to mid 1950s and, while the main plot is about the conflict between the five leading mob
families; it also details the relationships between the men and women who comprise them . There are a lot of parallels between the typical
Italian–american families of that ear and the powerful families that are detailed in the film. The movie does a very good job at blurring the lines
between personal decisions on behalf of the family and, decisions that are for the benefits of the business. The most dynamic charter in the movie is
Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) Don Corleone's youngest son. How could the strong family ties change Michael Corleone perspective on the family
business and change his ambitions from an americanized war veteran trying to make a living above the table to a hardcore mob boss? The opening
scene details the strong family relations theme present in the movie taking place at Connie's wedding. Connie (Talia Shire) is marrying Carlo Rizzi

victimizers, but not the way the undertaker wants to. The Don has a moral code that one would not expect from a harden criminal. His moral code is
similar to "an eye for eye" mentality. The Undertaker wants the Don to kill the attackers, but the Don will not go that far because the Undertaker still
has his daughter. Don Corleone shows this later when ending family wars. Now that both the Corleone family and the Tattaglia family lost a son they

Alcohol Advertising And Media Influence On Drug Use

Similarly to 'Scarface' and 'The Godfather', violence and crime are key themes in the films and therefore the male characters dominate the violent

that she is stable within her relationship with Wallace, and is additionally feared by other individuals such as Vincent, when he arrives at her

gangster genre, and guns hold a lot of power in them as they have the ability, with help, to kill or cause serious bodily harm. Nevertheless, this is

Crime Of Organized Crime And Criminal Structures
The topic of this paper is gangsters in organized crime can either work alone or work with other gangsters. When people commit crimes with other
criminals, their personal ties to each other become strong when there is especially trust or there could be no trust, however, those ties can become
strong at some point.
My paper will be about on the organized criminal structures that Frank Costello had. In the book, it has a lot of personal ties telling the reader who ties
personally that Costello had with people that is what the paper will be about. In the illegal activities that Costello committed, what type of crimes
has he committed. All of the activities that Costello did during his life will be until his death. My paper will be about criminal structures and the
overall generalization about it. What will be described is what type of criminal structures Costello had. Was it hierarchical and etc? What money ties
or the economically aspect are in criminal structures will be talked about. My paper will also be about how law enforcement ties to criminal
structures and networks to other people and getting the people doing illegal business caught. The final paper will also talk about how important trust
is in criminal structures. What would be talked about is even if having ties to other ties regarding people will a person reoffend. In one part of the

The Godfather, The Exorcist, And The Silence Of The Lambs
The Godfather, The Exorcist, and The Silence of the Lambs are three films that are often given the title "greatest of all time" in their respective genre,
for very good reason. Each film consists of scenes that are crafted so unforgettably that the scenes leave each viewer with a sense of awe, shock, and
horror when each scene is carefully examined. The Godfather, distributed in 1972 by Paramount Pictures, was directed by Francis Ford Coppola who in
an interview said in regards to his filmmaking that "If you don't take a risk then how are you going to make something really beautiful, that hasn't
been seen before?" (1). The Godfather certainly presented cinema with iconic and memorable scenes that were both beautiful and never before seen
largely due to the new and risky ways Francis Ford Coppola presented The Godfather's narrative. Similarly, The Exorcist chilled the bones of
audiences everywhere by shocking the world with grueling demonic possession in a tangible way that had never been presented before by cinema.
The scenes in The Exorcist were particularly memorable because the scenes resonated with a large majority of American audiences who came from
religious backgrounds where demonic possession is a sincere possibility; never before had a film brought Americans face–to–face with The Devil,
Hell, and sin by means of horror. Horror was also a key element in Jonathan Demme's 1991 classic The Silence of the Lambs. Horror made each scene
very memorable, particularly when

I Cento Passi Essay
I Cento Passi exemplified many of the central aspects of Mafia culture. Primarily the presence of family was central to the movie. Whether it was
biological family or their mafia family coalitions, the dedication and loyalty to family was evident in several scenes. Firstly, the relationships within the
Impastato family were impactful, such as when Luigi pins Peppino down in anger to his "disloyalty" by fighting against the mafia on the radio.
Additionally, in terms of the mafia family, Tano lectures Peppino and Giavani, explaining to them how he saved their family by helping their
father provide for them. Secondly, the relevancy of silence and secrecy was distinct. It was obvious that there was secrecy regarding the emotions
and feelings toward the mafia. Peppino and the Impastato family live simply 100 steps to the leader of the Mafia. They sleep amidst his control and
the mafia's power. Furthermore, as Peppino breaks the silence by his use of the radio station, a conversation is born and a sense of freedom was felt.
Finally, power was one of the most vital features within this film, as it is also the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His courage and ability to stand up against the Mafia, especially when his father played a large role in its community, must have been extremely
difficult for Peppino. I am sure he felt as if he was being disloyal in some ways toward his family, most importantly his father. If I were in Peppino's
shoes, I believe I would struggle in the fear of bringing unrest and disharmony to my family structure. However, he stood up for what he believed. He
spoke his thoughts, even when he knew it could put him, and others in danger. He risked himself in order to hopefully free some of the crime and
dictatorship that the Mafia created. With the use of the radio, he made his voice heard. Hence, his voice opened many other individual's minds and
emotions to the numerous ways the mafia was being

God Father Symbolism
The 1930's and 40's were a famous time for gangsters, mobs and mafias. The God Father directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written by Mario
Puzo focuses on this era. Gangster genre films always seem to have dark colors and low lighting, usually an urban city location and outfitting is
formal, props in these films are guns, cigars/cigarettes, drugs and money. Everything is put in a film for a reason and all these elements combine
to create a typical gangster setting. But, The God Father was not a typical gangster film. Mario Puzo used many, if not all of these elements but he
refined the gangster genre using intricate editing techinques. In the first scene at his daughters' wedding, Bonasera asks Don Carleone to avenge
his daughters assaliant. The lighting in this scene was dark and the camera angles high and low symbolizing who had the most power. It worked
for this particluar scene because they were doing a back door dealing and also showed us how Don Carleone was looked up to and respected by
others. The film is set in 1940's New York, Don Corleone and his men are always seen in formal wear, and Corleone had a cigar in a number of
scenes although we dont see stacks of money all the time it is shown to us indirectly when we see his mansion and expensive cars and fancy dinners.
This also worked for the film because it was historically correct, 1940's New York was home to many mobsters and crime families and the outfits
represented their status in society. In my opinion I

The Role Of Business In The Godfather
The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola introduces the lifestyle of an Italian–American mobster family in New York. This film shows an authentic
perspective of mobs in the 40's and 50's. We see that family business is very important in this film. But Michael Corleone put it best, "It's not personal,
it's strictly business." This relationship between the Corleone Family and business is what shows up multiple times throughout the movie. In the movie
we see a difference between Vito and his son Michael Corleone. Vito is the norm for what a superior leader should be. He is caring for his family and
also very strong when it comes to business. He is also a man of his word. On the flip side if you cross him, he will take matters into his own hands. ...

Kay's Role In The Godfather
The Godfather by Mario Puzo has stood the test of time. Many differ in their opinions about this novel. Some enjoy the action while others focus on
the negative aspects about women portrayed throughout the storyline. The rhetoric Puzo places on the pages plays out scenes of violence, family,
loyalty and at times romance. The era in which this story takes place must adhere to real to life actions of the characters in order for the reader to
transform his or herself into this fictional world. For example, in an essay Lessnor wrote "In The Godfather the role of women is limited to being the
caretakers of the family.....the women in this book were also seen as the least important part of a man's life" (1). Reading this novel did not give me the

The answer really is–NO. She is the backbone of the family. Even though she does not have a long part in the story, she is there. She is given the
respect that a woman of her time period usually does not have. She is not in need of a first name for there is only one Mama Corleone and

The Godfather Character Analysis Essay
The old saying, "Behind every great man is a great woman," is true in the case of Michael Corleone, the son of Don Vito Corleone of The
Godfather. The film focuses on the story of Michael and how he changes from a respectable, educated Marine to the ringleader of his father's
mafia business. In between the drastic turn of events, Michael has two love interests, both of which have a large, yet quiet, impact on his life. Kay
Adams, the first of the two love interests, is the average American woman. She is educated, smart, and possibly a bit too liberated for a female of
that time period, but she is a loved character because of this. Kay's relationship with Michael started before the movie and they seem to enjoy a
pleasant romance and friendship, but it is put on hold when Michael goes to Sicily to evade charges of a murder he committed. The second of the
love interests is Apollonia Vitelli, a Sicilian native whom Michael met when he was in hiding in Italy. She was the complete opposite of Kay and
was raised by a traditional Italian family. "I think you got hit by the thunderbolt," says one of Corleone's bodyguards when Michael sees Apollonia
for the first time. The two are in love and soon married, though it is short lived when a bomb meant for Michael is ignited and kills Apollonia.
Michael then returns to his home in New York and pursues a relationship and marriage with Kay Adams. Before Michael hid in Sicily, he was a man

Light And Dark In The Godfather
Francis Coppola emphasizes the secrecy of the Mafia by concealing their shady business practices with low–key lighting and dark colors. Well–said;

Citizen Kane, selected as the greatest film in motion picture history for three decades by the American Film Institute, The Godfather creates the most
impressive display of film noir ever. Films predating this one rarely experimented with low lighting because no director had the audacity to take the

Scarface Movie Themes
The film Scarface directed by Howard Hanks displays the rise and fall of gangster Tony Camonte. One of the main themes I picked up on in the
film was the incestuous interest between Tony and his sister Cesca. To me, Tony is very protective of his sister comparable to a jealous boyfriend.
At one point he catches his sister kissing another man and scares him off. Cesca and Tony then proceed to get into an argument where he
aggressively rips off a piece of her clothing. Another incident that occurred between the two was when Tony returned home after a month of being
away to find his partner Guino living with Cesca. Tony then proceeds to shoot Guino and kills him in front of Cesca who claimed to have loved
him. Lastly at the end of the movie where Cesca is about to shoot Tony but instead refuses only to run into his arms. Later a police bullet hits Cesca
in the chest resulting in her death and one of the last things Tony says to her is "without you I am completely alone". Why I thought this played a
big impact in the movie was because to me it seemed as if Tony was searching for some sort of love from his sister. At one point Cesca says she
doesn't even recognize him as her brother anymore. I believe this is why Tony felt no remorse for all the people he murdered, he felt empty and alone
which is what he says to Cesca in her final moments.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to take a liking in Tony. It seemed to me that whatever Tony wanted eventually he got it accept

Taking a Look at the Castellammarese War
The Castellammarese war was based in Castellammarese del Golfo, Sicily. The name Castellammarese refers to immigrants from the town of
Castellammare del Golfo in Western Sicily. This war a power struggle for control of the Italian–American Mafia between partisan and Joe Masseria
also known as "The Boss" and those of Salvatore Maranzano. The war lasted from February, 1930 to April 15th, 1931. The Castellammarse war was
between the forces of Masseria and Maranzano. Tensions between the two were evident as far back as 1928, with one side frequently hijacking the

Masculinity : Masculinity And Conformity
My study looks at how all my texts are connected by portrayals of masculinity and conformity. All of these texts have main characters who struggle
with the demands of masculinity and the pressures to conform to society's view of masculinity. The texts that I am using are Foreskins Lament by Greg
McGee, The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola, Kite Runner by and The Tomcat by James K Baxter. This interests me because I am a youngman
beginning my adult life and I feel a lot of pressure to conform to what society thinks is a good man.
How is Masculinity displayed in FSL?
In Greg McGee's Foreskin 's Lament issues of masculinity are displayed through a variety of characters each with a different issue on masculinity such
as violence, sexuality and the treatment of women. Violence is displayed through the character Clean. Clean is ex–army and believes everything is for
taking not the asking. Clean wants to become captain of the rugby team to make a name for himself so he can provide for his family. He kicks the
previous captain, one of his long time teammates in the head, on multiple occasions to get him injured and out of the team. This relates to the

violence necessary action for man when he is trying to provide. Clean really only wants the power, mana and financial benefits associated with being

Analysis Of The Use Of Lighting In The Godfather Essay
I am writing about the use of lighting in the opening scene of The Godfather, (1). The
photography of The Godfather as an entire film is very planned and used specifically to
generate moods, and have great psychological affect. This is just as true for the very first series of shots for the film, and perhaps more important since
these first shots will give the audience the initial feeling of the film, and set a tone for the picture. The first shot is highly dramatic in its lighting
method, and the audience is drawn in immediately to one single detail. A man begins revealing the details of a tragic incident that befell his daughter.

This highlight area of his eye is the part of the frame which has the greatest contrast, so naturally the audience is drawn directly into this man's stare,
and this is also achieved by having the man look right at the camera. As he speaks, the camera slowly pulls out and then we start to see a slight
increase in the surrounding detail of the scene. We can now see part of the back and side of the Godfather, (Marlon Brando) but still we have only
a slight highlight on his side, and no detail. Now the man gets up and moves to Brando's side, and he too is in complete shadow; we can only
really make out the fact that there are two figures present here, no more. Then the shot changes as the man leaves the Godfather's side, and it is a
revealing frontal MCU of Brando. This shot is lit much more than the previous shot. Where the other shot's background was pitch black, this shot is
lit so that almost the whole space and all objects in it are visible. Brando has a key, fill and backlight on him, and his character is revealed with much
intensity because of the dramatic light change from shot to shot. When the shot comes back to the man, in an over the shoulder (Brando) style, again
the backround is totally black. Having the man in that particular lighting, and having Brando lit the way he is serves two psychological purposes. First,
having the constant black background behind the man isolates his problem and makes us aware of how consumed he is with his problem.

and talks about the experiences of an Italian woman who struggles to surmount poverty and crime. Though extolling her courage, cunning, and
traditional values Puzo's description of petty criminal activity in the poor Italian–American neighbourhood offers ironic justification for the life of
crime as an alternate means of achieving the American Dream. The themes that are central to Mario Puzos Godfather are criminal legitimacy and
revenge, in which Puzo chronicles the ascent of the Corleone Mafia family under the leadership of Don Vito Corleone, a criminal mastermind, and his
sons. Drawing parallels to American corporate structure, Don Vito's benevolent authority is founded on supreme organizational control, calculated
judgment, and swift retaliation against all enemies of the family, including traitors and the incompetent within the clan as well as members of opposing
factions. In The Godfather Puzo begins to explore the dubious status of organized crime as a self–sufficient social entity governed by its own hallowed
customs and rigid codes of behavior, particularly personal honour and loyalty. The Sicilian is regarded as a sequel toThe Godfather, Puzo revisits the
Corleone family.

How The Godfather Changed Hollywood

  • 1. How The Godfather Changed Hollywood For many Italian–Americans, The Godfather changed the way that they were viewed in American society in a good way. Megan Gambino of the Smithsonian interviewed Tom Santopietro, the author of The Godfather effect. In the interview, Santopietro states "The film changed Hollywood because it finally changed the way Italians were depicted on film. It made Italians seem like more fully realized people and not stereotypes. It was a film in Hollywood made by Italians about Italians. Previously, it had not been Italians making the mobster films featuring Italian gangsters" (2012). In the movie we get to see a close–knit family that is all about tradition, love, and loyalty; however, it also takes a twist with illegal activity and murder. Kirkus Review stated "Broadway theater manager Santopietro (Sinatra in Hollywood, 2008, etc.) asserts that with the 1972 release of Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, "notions of ethnicity in America had been upended in rather spectacular fashion" especially for young Italian–Americans who felt conflicted about many aspects of their heritage, ... These Italian–American gangsters were involved in prostitution, drug trafficking, gambling, murder, money laundering and racketeering, many of the things that we see in The Godfather. Mafia families have struck fear in the lives of many and their communities. Murders would occur in the middle of the street in broad daylight. Communities were downtrodden with narcotics, alcoholics, and gangsters until the government stepped in to start indicting these individuals, locking them up and throwing away the ... • 3. Similarities Between Saturday Night Fever And The Godfather In Saturday Night Fever, portrayal of scenes and actions that were once prohibited due to the Hays Code allowed the characters to develop while giving a sense and portrayal of who Italian Americans are. Many of the characteristics exhibited by Tony, his friends and other characters relate to the first time they were explored and used in the film, The Godfather. For example, in Saturday Night Fever, there is a scene in which Tony and his friends are beat up by the Barracudas (Hispanic gang) and vice versa, when they go to get payback and avenge their friend Gus who was hospitalized (AFI). This relates to scenes in which the Godfather displayed brutality, blood, and mob violence (Browne). In general, such violence would be prohibited in films ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On The Godfather Sarah Kull Jordan Contemporary Literature 18 October 2014 Film Review The film, The Godfather, was released on March 24, 1972. The time period that the movie was set in was 1945, which was the time period of the Mafia. This film is based around two families fighting throughout the film. One of the main characters, Michael Corleone, changes throughout the movie deciding whether or not he should join in on the family business and take his fathers position (Vito Corleone) as Godfather. As a viewer, I did not enjoy this film due to the darkness and wickedness behind it. Although, many believe it to be one of the greatest movies of all time, in my opinion, the film was not a success. The producer and director, Francis Ford Coppola is known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Color being one element, was really used in the film helped and played a major role to help the viewer see the obscurity and wickedness that lied within all of the characters. The colors were used to also manipulate the way your mood fluctuated throughout the movie. Another strong element used was the set design. The set was used to show what time period the movie was set in, but also where the Mafia was mainly located throughout the movie. The dialogue furthermore showed and helped the viewer really get the feel of where the characters are from, and their culture. The costumes additionally played a major role in showing where the characters were from in the movie. The costumes helped audiences get the full ambiance of the time period and moods of the characters. Also, there are many scenes in the movie that make you anxious and on the edge of your seat. A specific example would be the scene of the shooting of Sollozo and Mcclusky. This scene makes you question many things and you do not know what is happening when Sollozo is speaking in Italian, which just adds suspense to the viewer's emotions. The camera pans out of Michael's face and then, BOOM! Sollozo and Mcclusky are dead. This is just one of the scenes that kept you in the verge of your seat and through all of these elements, there was a permutation that worked in harmony to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mise-En-Scene, Editing And Cinematographic Elements In The... "The Godfather", a crime–noir film produced in 1972, is about an aged patriarch of a famous mafia dynasty that transfers control of his business to his disinclined son. It was directed by Francis Ford Cappola and stars actors such as Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. The film's numerous achievements, specifically in the opening sequence, stem from the exemplary utilization and integration of misГ©–en–scene, editing, and cinematographic elements. Mise–en–scene is a key element in the representation of a character. For example, the film begins with a slow jazz soundtrack, a characteristic of thriller films during the 1970's. Then a plain black background streches across the screen, setting the stage for what is about to appear in front of us. Black... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This scene is edited with a very slow pace that creates a sense of calm and suggests the control that Don Corleone has over the situation. The sequence begins with a close up on Amerigo Bonasera as he stares in the camera while it zooms out, telling the audience about his daughter's rape. William Reynolds and Peter Zinner, the lead editors of the film, used this shot, that spans the next three minutes of the film, to add a sense of insecurity and rising tension. It also is used to reveal Bonasera is talking to a mysterious figure disguised by the shadows and that three other men are present, but without giving the setting of the scene or who these men are. Then, they break the three minute shot by giving the audience their first glance at the mysterious figure in the shadows. They cut to a medium shot of Don Corleone, the leader of this organized crime dynasty, finally revealing this shadowy figure to the audience, relieving them of some tension. The camera shifts location again in order to reveal the scene, something like an establishing shot. Here, they reveal four male characters, all dressed in suits, and the only lights coming from the slats in the blinds and the sole artificial light on the right side of the room. Don Corleone is also placed in the center of this shot with every other character facing him, giving him a sense of power. Next, they cut to a medium shot of the godfather sitting ... • 6. Childhood In My Childhood Decapitated baby dolls and rated R movies shaped my childhood. Now, before you throw my essay in the round file and write me off as a potential serial killer, hear me out. I was not raised like many of my peers. Obviously, most of their parents made sure that the movies they viewed were age appropriate and I am pretty sure they would not have been so passive if the found dismembered baby dolls in their daughter's playroom. However, my parents were different... very different. Instead of watching the typical family movies such as Matilda and Toy Story, my family spent our weekends watching The Matrix Series and The Godfather Trilogy. While most may not agree with these customs, my seven–year–old mind was far more thrilled at hearing Marlon Brando saying "kiss the ring" rather than Woody talk about snakes and boots. Besides, I closed my eyes during the intimate scenes so that makes everything okay, right? No, it does not; however, this rather peculiar childhood has shaped most of my strongest ideals and assisted in the modeling of my present self. In the movie, Don Corleone (Marlon Brando), says "a man who [does not] spend time with his family can never be a real man". This quote has remained a valued aphorism in my family and my dedication to it is displayed in the way I am perceived by others. From birthday parties to sports, my family does everything together, so much so, people are surprised and sometimes worried if they notice a member of our group did not accompany us on ... • 7. The Godfather Thesis Director Francis Ford Coppola's dramatization The Godfather is a standout amongst the most venerated, acclaimed and powerful works of the twentieth century. It is a movie magnum opus of business and basic achievement as such achieving that it routinely beat proficient and individual records as the best film ever. With a story so soaked with profound subjects, solid characters, brilliant exhibitions, jazzy heading, and an ageless soundtrack, there ought not be any miracle of why this work has stood the trial of time. Notwithstanding each one of those traits is the presentation of rich social topics and changes all through the whole film. A case of this would be that the Don never takes cash from customers and partners for noting a solicitation, for example, a hit, rather requiring something more individual, for example, fellowship, administration, or favors. This is entirely clear in the opening scene when a funeral director approaches the Don for equity against two men who frightfully assaulted and beat his little girl. He offers Vito cash for the hit which significantly insults The Godfather. Simply after the funeral director understands the unintended offense and offers Vito his kinship does the Don assent to his solicitation. • 8. Essay On The Godfather One of the greatest films and novels of all time, The Godfather by Mario Puzo is the book that I chose to write my report about. This book falls under the drama and crime fiction genres, due to its dramatic story of people being shot and murdered. The Godfather takes place in New York during the years 1945–1955, right after World War II. Most of the story is written from a narrator 's perspective, save for two points in the book in which the story becomes a first person point of view. One of the themes portrayed in the novel is that family always comes first, even if it isn't a blood–related family, but a crime family. The novel's theme is primarily that of loyalty, which is a crucial plot device because some of the Corleone family... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His role in The Godfather is that of the Don, or a commanding officer. He climbs the social ladder in the Corleone family, starting as a member and gains a higher reputation by killing the man believed to have orchestrated the attacks against his father, Virgil Sollozzo, and a corrupt police captain paid by Sollozzo. Michael then travels to Sicily and doesn't move up in the family for a while. Two years later, his brother Sonny Corleone, who was the acting head of the family after their father was injured, was shot in a phone booth. Michael then returns to America to help out with the family: he assumes Sonny's role as his father's heir apparent, a Vice President who steps in when the Don is injured or killed. Once the Don retires, he becomes the new Don and takes over as the head of the crime family. There are many minor characters in The Godfather due to the Corleone family's immense size and intricate relationships with other crime families and policemen. The first Don mentioned in the book, Michael's father Vito Corleone, was minor character. Sonny Corleone was the successor to the Don because he was his son, he was the most qualified of the Don's sons to take over the business and he did so until he was murdered a short while after in a phone booth. Michael and Sonny had one other blood brother, Fredo Corleone, who doesn't play a big role in the family. Fredo was with the Don when he was shot and went into shock; to protect ... • 10. The Godfather Is A 1972 American Crime Drama Directed By... The Godfather is a 1972 American crime drama directed by Francis Coppola based on the 1969 novel by Mario Puzo. The film stars Marlin Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a powerful family business of crime. The story is centred on Michael Corleone, and how he grows from a young man wanting nothing to do with the family business to a ruthless Don who will stop at nothing to exact his revenge. The movie grossed around 286 million dollars and is touted as one of the most successful films of all time, and in 1990 it was selected for preservation in the United States Film Registry. The film portrays many different character stereotypes commonly used in the Crime genre, and this helps to allow the viewer to identify with the characters better, as they already have an understanding of what their intentions are. Michael Corleone is the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone and, despite his families criminal background, he doesn 't want anything to do with his father 's bussiness. He can be considered the main protagonist of the story, however he fits under the character stereotype of the Villain, in accordance with the stock characters stated by narrative theorist Vladimir Propp. Michael is a returned war hero and is first introduced attending his sister Connie 's wedding with his girlfriend, Kay. Much of Michael character is introduced to the viewer in this scene, primarily his disinterest in the family business. When he is talking with Kay about Johnny Fontaine, and what his ... • 11. Michael Corleone's Transformation In this paper I will argue that in his film, The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola orchestrates the filmic elements (especially: editing and mise–en–scГ©ne) to give the audience an intimate view of the complex world of a Mafia Don: Coppola's techniques sensitively portray the life and transformation of Michael Corleone; he leaves his status as a family outsider to become king of the underworld. Michael is the son of Vito Corleone, Don of the Corleone Crime Family1. The story of The Godfather is the story of both Vito and Michael. Vito passes away and leaves his throne to Michael, who steps out of a seemingly innocent world ordinary American life to receive his father's crown and to assume control of the Corleone Family. In a distinct contrast, Al Pacino's Michael resembles a nervous and self –conscious prince. He sulks at the table. He speaks quickly in a high voice and emphasizes his words like an adolescent. Though marked, their physical differences are not as important as the differences between their worlds, their settings. Vito appears in an almost pitch black room. The only things in the room which are lit are Vito's face, his desk, a lamp in the background and the face of any one of Vito's four suppliants. And the seclusion of the this world is depicted by the size and sounds of the office: though it is not claustrophobic, the room is quite small; and there are no background sounds, only the main conversation. In sharp contrast, Michael appears with Kay as opposed to the entirely male world of his father. His father is inside a dark office, while Michael is outside at a lively Italian wedding reception. Children are running everywhere, men and women are dancing, eating, and drinking. The setting is bright, colorful, open, and full of music and laughter. The distinctions between these two settings are polar, as are the characteristics of these two men who epitomize their respective worlds. • 12. Godfather Goodfellas Essay The Godfather and Goodfellas are both considered "mafia movies." Both of these films portray some form of organized crime committed by Italians. They mutually romanticize the mob lifestyle and depict it with pure clarity. Although both of these movies portray the lives of the same kind of people, they are more than just a simple characterization. Violence plays a major role in each of these films. The Godfather and Goodfellas are obviously very similar. However, they also have several aspects that differ from one another. Many of these murders happen spontaneously and are not organized. Some of these scenes are shocking, primeval, and appalling. These moments leave the viewers stunned and disoriented. Unlike Goodfellas, the violence in The Godfather occurs mysteriously and almost magically. The organized crimes and murders simply occur without any mistake in this film. One of the bloody scenes that portray this is the one where Woltz' bed is covered in blood. This scene was very slick the way Tom Hagen slipped away without being noticed by anyone. Hagen's visit was to intimidate Woltz by proving that if he had to kill him, he would be able to. Another very violent act was Sonny's death. This plan was organized carefully by Don Emilio Varzini with the help of Carlo Rizzi, his brother–in–law. Earlier in the film Sonny had beaten Carlo after he heard Carlo was abusing his sister Connie. To get back at him, Carlo viciously beats Connie using his belt. When Sonny hears of this he speeds to Connie's apartment. As he approaches, Barzini's men surround Sonny and viciously shoot him to death. This act was also thought out very cautiously by masterminds. Towards the end of the movie, the planned killing of the five other mob leaders is revealed. Michael orders all of the head of the families to be killed so he can be the top Don. Although this scene is violent, it is masked by the ceremony of Michael becoming Connie's son's godfather. Also a good example of Copolla's long shots is when the film is about to end and there is a shot of Diane Keaton looking so innocent and really knowing nothing of the family business. The Godfather, The Exorcist, And The Silence Of The Lambs The Godfather, The Exorcist, and The Silence of the Lambs are three films that are often given the title "greatest of all time" in their respective genre, for very good reason. Each film consists of scenes that are crafted so unforgettably that the scenes leave each viewer with a sense of awe, shock, and horror when each scene is carefully examined. The Godfather, distributed in 1972 by Paramount Pictures, was directed by Francis Ford Coppola who in an interview said in regards to his filmmaking that "If you don't take a risk then how are you going to make something really beautiful, that hasn't been seen before?" (1). The Godfather certainly presented cinema with iconic and memorable scenes that were both beautiful and never before seen largely due to the new and risky ways Francis Ford Coppola presented The Godfather's narrative. Similarly, The Exorcist chilled the bones of audiences everywhere by shocking the world with grueling demonic possession in a tangible way that had never been presented before by cinema. The scenes in The Exorcist were particularly memorable because the scenes resonated with a large majority of American audiences who came from religious backgrounds where demonic possession is a sincere possibility; never before had a film brought Americans face–to–face with The Devil, Hell, and sin by means of horror. Gangster genre films always seem to have dark colors and low lighting, usually an urban city location and outfitting is formal, props in these films are guns, cigars/cigarettes, drugs and money. Everything is put in a film for a reason and all these elements combine to create a typical gangster setting. But, The God Father was not a typical gangster film. Mario Puzo used many, if not all of these elements but he refined the gangster genre using intricate editing techinques. In the first scene at his daughters' wedding, Bonasera asks Don Carleone to avenge his daughters assaliant. The lighting in this scene was dark and the camera angles high and low symbolizing who had the most power. It worked for this particluar scene because they were doing a back door dealing and also showed us how Don Carleone was looked up to and respected by others. The film is set in 1940's New York, Don Corleone and his men are always seen in formal wear, and Corleone had a cigar in a number of scenes although we dont see stacks of money all the time it is shown to us indirectly when we see his mansion and expensive cars and fancy dinners. The film focuses on the story of Michael and how he changes from a respectable, educated Marine to the ringleader of his father's mafia business. In between the drastic turn of events, Michael has two love interests, both of which have a large, yet quiet, impact on his life. Kay Adams, the first of the two love interests, is the average American woman. She is educated, smart, and possibly a bit too liberated for a female of that time period, but she is a loved character because of this. Kay's relationship with Michael started before the movie and they seem to enjoy a pleasant romance and friendship, but it is put on hold when Michael goes to Sicily to evade charges of a murder he committed. The second of the love interests is Apollonia Vitelli, a Sicilian native whom Michael met when he was in hiding in Italy. She was the complete opposite of Kay and was raised by a traditional Italian family. "I think you got hit by the thunderbolt," says one of Corleone's bodyguards when Michael sees Apollonia for the first time. The two are in love and soon married, though it is short lived when a bomb meant for Michael is ignited and kills Apollonia. Well–said; nice topic sentence.] The lack of light and color gives off a powerful feeling of savagery owing to the reality of the story. Other than Orson Welles Citizen Kane, selected as the greatest film in motion picture history for three decades by the American Film Institute, The Godfather creates the most impressive display of film noir ever. Films predating this one rarely experimented with low lighting because no director had the audacity to take the risk. That and no one had the right script for it. • 30. Scarface Movie Themes The film Scarface directed by Howard Hanks displays the rise and fall of gangster Tony Camonte. One of the main themes I picked up on in the film was the incestuous interest between Tony and his sister Cesca. To me, Tony is very protective of his sister comparable to a jealous boyfriend. At one point he catches his sister kissing another man and scares him off. Cesca and Tony then proceed to get into an argument where he aggressively rips off a piece of her clothing. Another incident that occurred between the two was when Tony returned home after a month of being away to find his partner Guino living with Cesca. Tony then proceeds to shoot Guino and kills him in front of Cesca who claimed to have loved him. Lastly at the end of the movie where Cesca is about to shoot Tony but instead refuses only to run into his arms. Later a police bullet hits Cesca in the chest resulting in her death and one of the last things Tony says to her is "without you I am completely alone". Why I thought this played a big impact in the movie was because to me it seemed as if Tony was searching for some sort of love from his sister. At one point Cesca says she doesn't even recognize him as her brother anymore. I believe this is why Tony felt no remorse for all the people he murdered, he felt empty and alone which is what he says to Cesca in her final moments.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first Poppy seemed very uninterested in Tony, but throughout the movie especially after the death of Lovo, she begins to take a liking in Tony. Not only that, but even throughout the films, it was noticeable to point out the cultural and architectural differences within the people and buildings portrayed. The way the cities are portrayed in the films truly do change the experience one may have in those cities throughout life because one may expect the cities to be what they want it to be as shown in the films, but in reality won't experience that because it's currently two thousand and seventeen and the films were made to give the audience a taste of what 1937 and the 60's were. As for symbolism, both the films use different techniques with symbols that create and reveal more than what is being shown to the audience. For example, in A Bronx Tale, music is the key symbol for everything. Such as the bus scene when Calogero is talking to his father, who is driving the bus, and can't help but stare into Jane's eyes. Before Calogero sees her, upbeat jazz is playing from his father's radio; yet as soon as Calogero sees Jane, the music begins to slow down and make the scene more than what it appears to be. • 36. Masculinity : Masculinity And Conformity My study looks at how all my texts are connected by portrayals of masculinity and conformity. All of these texts have main characters who struggle with the demands of masculinity and the pressures to conform to society's view of masculinity. The texts that I am using are Foreskins Lament by Greg McGee, The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola, Kite Runner by and The Tomcat by James K Baxter. This interests me because I am a youngman beginning my adult life and I feel a lot of pressure to conform to what society thinks is a good man. How is Masculinity displayed in FSL? In Greg McGee's Foreskin 's Lament issues of masculinity are displayed through a variety of characters each with a different issue on masculinity such as violence, sexuality and the treatment of women. Violence is displayed through the character Clean. Clean is ex–army and believes everything is for taking not the asking. Clean wants to become captain of the rugby team to make a name for himself so he can provide for his family. He kicks the previous captain, one of his long time teammates in the head, on multiple occasions to get him injured and out of the team. This relates to the Godfather which is also a world in which violence is heavily intertwined with masculinity to help provide for your family, which makes us consider is violence necessary action for man when he is trying to provide. • 37. Analysis Of The Use Of Lighting In The Godfather Essay I am writing about the use of lighting in the opening scene of The Godfather, (1). The photography of The Godfather as an entire film is very planned and used specifically to generate moods, and have great psychological affect. This is just as true for the very first series of shots for the film, and perhaps more important since these first shots will give the audience the initial feeling of the film, and set a tone for the picture. The first shot is highly dramatic in its lighting method, and the audience is drawn in immediately to one single detail. A man begins revealing the details of a tragic incident that befell his daughter. We don't see who he is talking to. There is aspotlight directly above the man, and this is pretty much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This highlight area of his eye is the part of the frame which has the greatest contrast, so naturally the audience is drawn directly into this man's stare, and this is also achieved by having the man look right at the camera. As he speaks, the camera slowly pulls out and then we start to see a slight increase in the surrounding detail of the scene. We can now see part of the back and side of the Godfather, (Marlon Brando) but still we have only a slight highlight on his side, and no detail. Now the man gets up and moves to Brando's side, and he too is in complete shadow; we can only really make out the fact that there are two figures present here, no more. Then the shot changes as the man leaves the Godfather's side, and it is a revealing frontal MCU of Brando. This shot is lit much more than the previous shot. Where the other shot's background was pitch black, this shot is lit so that almost the whole space and all objects in it are visible. Brando has a key, fill and backlight on him, and his character is revealed with much intensity because of the dramatic light change from shot to shot. When the shot comes back to the man, in an over the shoulder (Brando) style, again the backround is totally black. Having the man in that particular lighting, and having Brando lit the way he is serves two psychological purposes. First, having the constant black background behind the man isolates his problem and makes us aware of how consumed he is with his problem. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Besides being violent he also became suicidal and depressed. Grillo's character changes throughout the story when he begins to be involved in gangs. Grillo's change was mostly caused when he got jumped into Las Lomas gang because he became more violent. For example, "Do it ! Puzo's early novels, The Dark Arena and The Fortunate Pilgrim, exhibit the realistic narrative style typical of his later fiction and are considered minor classics of Italian–American literature. The Dark Arena talks about an American soldier who came back to a occupied Germany after the Second World War. Introducing the theme of violent retribution, Puzo's protagonist kills a black market drug supplier to show his rage at government , corruption in postwar Europe, and his own failure to secure lifesaving medication for his German girlfriend. In The Fortunate Pilgrim, Puzo takes us to Hell's kitchen and talks about the experiences of an Italian woman who struggles to surmount poverty and crime. Though extolling her courage, cunning, and traditional values Puzo's description of petty criminal activity in the poor Italian–American neighbourhood offers ironic justification for the life of crime as an alternate means of achieving the American Dream. The themes that are central to Mario Puzos Godfather are criminal legitimacy and revenge, in which Puzo chronicles the ascent of the Corleone Mafia family under the leadership of Don Vito Corleone, a criminal mastermind, and his sons. Drawing parallels to American corporate structure, Don Vito's benevolent authority is founded on supreme organizational control, calculated judgment, and swift retaliation against all enemies of the family, including traitors and the incompetent within the clan as well as members of opposing factions. In The Godfather Puzo begins to explore the dubious status of organized crime as a self–sufficient social entity governed by its own hallowed customs and rigid codes of behavior, particularly personal honour and loyalty.
