1. Assure Method for Tuesday: The Western Front
Analyze Learner: High school history students in the 10th
grade. The class consists of 23
students with 13 being male and 10 being female. The students are good visual learners.
There is one student in the class who cannot walk and uses a wheelchair with an aide.
State the Objective: The students will be taught about the Western Front and the huge
stalemate that it became due to Trench Warfare. The student’s should be able to explain
the major powers that fought on the Western Front, and why Trench Warfare cause it to
become a stalemate. Student’s will participate in classroom by watching a video that
gives a quick rundown on the Western Front and the caused of stalemate. Then student’s
will be taking some notes off the glogster that I made on Trench Warfare that will
provide some nice visuals for the students. The students will also look at photo of a
model of a Trench of Second life that gives a pretty good first person view of being
inside a trench. The students will also be asked to type a one to two paged paper
comparing Trench Warfare conditions. All this will be done on the second day (Tuesday)
of the Unit Plan, but the assignment won’t be due until the beginning of class
Wednesday. By the beginning of Wednesday’s class the students should be able to
explain what the Western Front and Trench Warfare is with 95% accuracy.
Select Media Method Materials: I will be using a you tube video from the account
VookInc about the Western Front and a glogster that I made on Trench Warfare. I will
use Second Life to show them a model of a trench. I will also be using a word document
to give the assignment.
Utilize Media Method Materials: I will be using a the you tube video to give a students a
good quick introduction to the Western Front. The students will then take notes from the
Glogster on Trench Warfare. The students will also look at the picture on Second Life to
see what it would be like to stand in a trench. The students will be presented with a
word document giving them instruction on their paper.
Require learner participation: The students will not have much to do on the second day
other than watch the you tube video and take notes from the glogster and Second Life
photo. There will be time to ask questions as well. The student will also have to write the
paper comparing German Trenches with British/French Trenches.
Evaluate and Revise: The student’s Evaluation comes from the paper that they give me.
The paper they will write will be on comparing the German Trenches with the
British/French Trenches. This should include a overview of each sides trench conditions,
as well as the student’s opinion on which Trench would they rather live in.
