1. Tuesday:
Today’s class will revolve around the Battle of the Alamo. This will be taught
to a World History class consisting of 24 10th graders. There are 14 girls and
10 boys in the class. There are 10 students from the United States, 8 are from
Mexico, 3 from Brazil, and 3 from China. This class is a visual and hands on
learning class who also enjoy a theatrical aspect in their assignments.
The objective for today’s lesson is to examine the importance of the Alamo to
the creation of today’s United States. After reading and researching the Battle
of the Alamo students will understand how this battle brought the more
Texans to join the Revolution. Creating the strength and momentum needed
to win the Texas Revolution.
Students will have access to the Alamo website in order to research the
timeline of events occurring slightly before and after the battle. Secondlife
will also be available as a class activity in order for the students to take a tour
of the Alamo and ask the teacher any questions they may have about certain
aspects.
Technology used in this class includes: websites, Secondlife, photoshop,
moviemaker, and wikispaces.
In order to review the material at the end, students will create a movie
covering from the events leading up to and after the Alamo. This may also
include information of why the Alamo was lost. The video needs to be at least
3 minutes long, but students have free reign as to the way it is made.
Students may act out a class setting, use a multitude of pictures, or any other
method that is cleared by the teacher. The only stipulation is that each
student must have either themselves, or their voice in the video. In order to
turn this assignment in, the students must create a Wiki. The Wiki needs to
have the embedded video (from a YouTube channel), a word document (from
slideshare.com) that has the script written out, and a picture that acts as a
movie poster. The script must also include the sources that they used to
complete the video. The movie poster must be created in photoshop from 2
or more pictures (also on Wiki). There will also be tutorials posted within the
class Facebook page for photoshop and moviemaker.
Students will be expected to have 100% accuracy for the information that
they use to create the video. Students will also be graded on their creation of
the Wiki and will be expected to have at least 90% accuracy on that. The
process in which each item is to be turned in will be graded as well, and will
be expected to have 100% accuracy for that as well.
