Project-Based Learning promotes and encourages
critical thinking and working together. Students are
motivated to address real-life situations with the
support system of the teacher.
Importance
0 Promotes social skills within the classroom setting
0 Students think for themselves and create new ideas
0 Students are learning while having fun
0 Takes students out of their comfort zone so can work
with others in their class
21st Century Education
0 Provides the skills that students need in order to
become worldly citizens
0 Teaches students to be resourceful outside of the
classroom
Example
4 students are placed in a group to create a project
about the Underground Railroad. Each student will have
access to their own resource (internet,
books/magazines, videos, and maps). When students
have completed their individual task, they will come
together to combine their research and create their
presentation. Students have learned time management,
communication and research skills, critical thinking, as
well as group participation.
Role of Technology
0 Internet allows students to research different
websites with background information about the
Underground Railroad
0 Magazines & Books allow students to read articles and
biographies of real life people during this time frame
0 Videos show literal examples of what the
Underground Railroad was like (it wasn’t really a
railroad) and what the people who were involved
went through
0 Maps show distances between “safe houses” and what
were free and slave states
