Negative Stereotypes In Video Games
According to several sources around 42% of the American population plays video games, and around 1.2 billion people worldwide play video games
today. Gaming has become an increasingly more popular hobby since its creation. As such the medium has obviously attracted a multitude of different
people and groups, all consisting of diverse backgrounds, body types, sexes, races, nationalities and the like. However, contrary to the numerous
demographics video games have come to attract, it is very evident the vast majority of them do not seem to be marketed toward many of them via
game characters, and their importance, if any, in a game. Video games show an overwhelming amount of whitemale characters, despite the many
demographics they reach. Of the characters that are not white, or male, that are represented, are often represented poorly. For example, many black
characters represented in video games are often characterized as vulgar, and violent. Women represented in games are often characterized as support
characters, or objects of sexual desire. Considering forms of sexism, racism, and other such types of prejudices are still prominent in modern society,
and these representations obviously do not help how people see these marginalized groups. Ultimately, these representations, or lack thereof, affect
people in society in a number of ways, by perpetuating prejudice and harmful stereotypes.
Media is one our society's greatest ways to spread information, though it's not always

Masculinity In Disney
Hegemonic masculinity over the years has created an ideal image for males to look up too. There is a lack of evolution and a negative body image
being represented with Disney. There is a high criteria in which every masculine character has to obtain. The media helps pressure the creation of the
perfect male in which Disney is following over the years. Movies from 1970s to modern day movies show little evolution. With little to no evolution
places an image for those watching an image that they need to obtain. Masculine characters in Disney have a lack of change; these characters have
multiple traits what every male character has to demonstration.
Masculinity, and hyper masculinity is broadly concerned towards the social construction to what it means to "be a man". Many successful films will
always be based around the idea white male and the "11 validated scales of masculine conformity and one global index "(P.5). These elevens are main

The Life And Loves Of A She-Devil Character Analysis
In society and our entertainment, men are often portrayed as the stronger and more dominant gender. They often have a privileged status in the world
since the society we live in a mostly patriarchal. However, there are some forms of entertainment that show men as inferior to women. Women often
show hatred towards men and usually can be hostile . This is known as anti–male or missandry. In Fay Weldon's novel The Life and Loves of a
She–Devil, Ruth Patchett's husband, Bobbo, is having an affair with a woman named Mary Fisher. Ruth then goes through vigourous trials and
completely reinvents herself in order to take revenge on Mary for stealing her husband and to get Bobbo back into her life. Although people may
have a different view than I do, I believe that The Life and Loves of a She–Devil is not anti–male because Ruth's entire life revolves around Bobbo,
because the women are depicted as weak and needing men and because the men in the story are well–rounded characters unlike the women.
In The Lives and Loves of a She–Devil, Ruth Patchett learns that her husband Bobbo is having an affair with Mary Fisher, a beautiful woman. After
Bobbo leaves to go live with his mistress, Ruth begins to consider herself a she–devil which then causes her to plan her revenge against the new
couple. Ruth cunningly ruins both Mary Fisher and Bobbo's lives by using several different aliases to in order to get Bobbo away from Mary Fisher.
After Bobbo is found guilty of embezzlement, he goes to

Male Dominance over Female characters in John Harwood's novel, The Asylum
Today's society perceives women to be stronger and dominant individuals in comparison to men, although, in reality, there are numerous circumstances
in which men exhibit more power and control over the important decisions in women's lives. In his novel, The Asylum, John Harwood portrays the
ways in which men exert power over women through the relationships between Rosina and her father as well as Dr. Straker and Georgina. Through the
characters of Rosina and Georgina, Harwood depicts that women face many insecurities which ultimately causes the relationships ... Show more content

Rather than admitting her true feelings, Rosina gives her consent for the alliance in order to please her father due to her fear of him, exemplifying that
her diffident personality in the novel leads to the tenuous bonds between them both. Furthermore, Rosina's father's obedience leads him to become
very stern towards Rosina's freedom as "Your [Rosina's] duty is to obey me, and you will learn to like him [Mr. Bradstone] because I wish it... Until
then, as I say, you are to remain outdoors: I have given orders to ensure that you do. Disobey me in this, and you will be confined to your room"
(135–136). Thomas's ascendancy over his daughter's decisions is evident as he is very strict and intimidating, Rosina must obey commands in order to
live with him or else there are bound to be dire consequences. Instead of fighting for her rights and freedom, Rosina feebly agrees to her father's
instructions, thus reinforcing the one–sided relationship between both father and daughter.
Moving on, Georgina and Dr. Straker's bond also begins to diminish as Dr. Straker's dominance over Georgina's confinement at Tregannon Asylum
eventually leads to the loss of control over her decisions. First and foremost, at the asylum, Georgina wakes up to find her

The Male Characters Of Disney Films
The male characters in Disney films have evolved with today's society, in which male and female counterparts are equal. In the era of Walt Disney, the
prince saved the princess, as seen in Sleeping Beauty. The prince possessed masculine or hypermasculine characteristics– strong, muscular, broad, tall,
ambitious and hard. However, in later Disney the male characters began to soften, as seen in Hercules. In Masculinity as Social Semiotic Identity
Politics and Gender in Disney Animated Films, Robyn McCallum discussed how the male protagonist in films such as Mulan, Hercules and Tarzan
transformed into a "new man", a man that possessed stereotypical female traits (McCalllum, 2002). However, it can be argued that although the "new
man" has mentally changed they have physically stayed the same since Sleeping Beauty. In classic Disney, the prince rescued the distressed princess.
The prince could be classified as hypermasculine, – strong, muscular, hard, tall and broad. Although he does play a large role in Disney films, often
the deuteragonist, his name is not commonly used. They are simply known as "The Prince" or "Prince Charming" as represented in Snow White and
the Seven Dwarfs or Cinderella. Their proper names, Prince Florian (The Prince) and Prince Henry (Prince Charming), are seldom used. Additionally,
the prince does not have as much screen time when compared to their female counterparts. In the original Cinderella, Prince Charming receives only six
minutes of screen

The Role Of Women 's Video Games
When discussing the role of women in video games, it is important to establish what an acceptable female character is. An acceptable female character
has her own motivations that are not dependent on a male character, is not overtly sexualized, and has a multi–dimensional personality. A well
–written
female character has a storyline that is independent of other male characters and does not serve to further male storylines. The Last of Us, developed by
Naughty Dog, follows Joel as he leads Ellie, a young girl, across a post–apocalyptic world. Ellie, rather than existing as a tool to further Joel's
man–pain, acts on her own inhibitions. Ellie also becomes a playable character at certain points and Alexandra Neonakis, part of the team that created
the game, states that these are some of the most important plot points (JAMSTEW, 2015). The story itself focuses on the fact that she may contain the
cure to the infection that has riddled the United States, turning people into a zombie–like state. While some may see the relationship of Joel and Ellie
as merely Joel using Ellie for his own purposes, it is more of a mutual relationship. With the influence of Joel and other factors, Ellie goes on a
"journey from a damsel in distress to a fully capable and complex character", states Neonakis (JAMSTEW, 2015). The game attempted to showcase a
relationship between man and women where each needed each other for support and to improve themselves. A women's sexuality can be an integral part

Male Characters And Traditional Life In Willa Cather's O...
Willa Cather's, book O Pioneers represents a completely different way of life than traditional life is the early 1900's . Traditionally, a man's main job
consists of hard labor and a woman's job involves having children and focusing on home life. Although this happens to be the "norm" of the time,
charcters in O Pioneers do quite the opposite. Carl Linstrum, a male character in the novel, does not come across as your "typical" 1900's man. Another
bold character, Alexandra Bergson, defies the social stereotype widely accepted at the time of O Pioneers. She supports herself and does everything
that people of her time period believes a man should do. Most relationships being male dominated, it's obvious that a lot men don't have respect for
women during this time.
Carl Linstrum possesses the characteristics of a sensitive and compassionate man who is in touch with his emotions. He doesn't let preconceived
notions of what a man should be like control him. The book refers to Carl as a "thin, frail boy, with brooding eyes, and very quiet
movements"(Cather 4). Carl doesn't have the sharp facial features and doesn't look masculine. A mouth "too sensitive for a boys", describes Carl's
mouth, according to the narrator. Throughout the book, Carl shows what it means to stand out. Carl tends to act the complete opposite of how
everyone expects a man to act. Carl also depends on Alexandra like a wife would depend on their husband (Cather 20).

The Yellow Wallpaper, By Charlotte Perkins Gilman Essay
Charlotte Perkins Gilman does a remarkable job letting us get inside the head of her unnamed main character in "The Yellow Wallpaper" giving us a
taste of the female psyche, in particular showing how historically some women subject themselves to the control of men. Alternatively, Nick Hornby
does something altogether similar with "High Fidelity", introducing us to Rob Fleming, whose male psyche reveals, among other things, how men focus
and base their success one expectations influenced by gender roles. In the paragraphs that follow, I will attempt to compare and contrast Gilman's and
Hornby's findings regarding the male and female psyche. In particular, I hope to explore how gender divisions have vastly influenced society.
Our country's past holds truths behind the fact that men have been known to have control over women and to be the dominant. Charlotte Perkins Gilman
gives us an example of such dominance within the first few pages of the short story, "The Yellow Wallpaper" which was written in the format of a
journal belonging to an unnamed main character whom states "There comes John, and I must put this away, ––– he hates to have me write a word,"
(Gilman 13). Right away readers are aware of the fear that she holds of her husband, for she does not go against or do anything of which he would
not allow. Our main character loves to write in her journal, and even sees writing in the journal as a way to achieve better mental health, yet she is
afraid to let her husband see

Disney Princess Movies, On Gender Stereotyping
Introduction
Founded by Groves in 1999, the Cultivation Theory came into existence (Graves, 1999). The theory states that exposure to television develops social
behavior and norms. At a young age, we are only just entering the stage in their lives where we are beginning to think for ourselves and develop our
own personal beliefs and values. Our minds are gullible and can be easily manipulated. This particular empirical study analyzes the effects due to
media, specifically Disney princess movies, on gender stereotyping. Gender stereotyping can be defined as common generalizations used to describe
gender roles in society, specific attributes associated with each gender, and the differences between each. Many a time, gender stereotypes are... Show

Roles
Throughout the Disney films, traditional feminine and masculine characteristics are exhibited by each respectively through behaviors and decisions
(Graves, 1999). Thompson and Zerbinos(1995) conducted a study consisting of 89 children (ages four to nine years) to analyze their interpretation of
how female and male characters are presented in Disney movies. The results displayed that boys were more active and aggressive, while girls were
viewed as loving, domestic, and concerned with their appearances (Thompson and Zerbinos, 1995). In Cinderella, for instance, Cinderella is portrayed
as a "slave" to her step–mother. She is mainly found doing domestic work, such as cooking and cleaning, without complaint. She even sings and
smiles throughout. Domestic work is used as an act of submission to the superior of the female character and is shown as a method to gain love
from others. Charlotte, from The Princess and the Frog, is constantly shown doing housework as well. Her mother is even known as "the finest
seamstress in New Orleans," as sewing is highly associated with female characteristics (Towbin et al, 2008). As can be explained via the cultivation
theory, the ideology demonstrated by Disney films that domestic work is a female chore causes girls and boys to form that particular social standard
and follow it just so. Even today, the role of the woman was shown to be motherly and house

Analysis Of Disney Films From Netflix And From Google...
For the purposes of this study we generated a list of popularized Disney movies from NetflixВ® and from Google searches of the top Disney
movies from the 1980s and 1990s. We then took the generated list and randomly assigned each movie a number and choose five different Disney
movies. The movies selected were Beauty and the Beast (1991), Mulan (1998), Hercules (1997), Little Mermaid (1989), and Aladdin (1992). The four
researchers were then all assigned a number and randomly paired with a movie to independently watch and code with the exception of the final movie
which acted was watched by each member of the group and coded for reliability.
Procedure
This study was designed as an event based, structure observational study where researchers identified a set four behaviors prior to the study that which
theoretically two were stereotypically male and the remaining two were stereotypical female. Prior to the study researchers generated four behaviors that
they believed represented stereotypical gender roles. The first behavior was giving orders and was defined as, a verbal command where the character is
demanding a behavior of another character. Commanding phrase examples include a character stating "you do this" or "stop" or "leave my castle
now." The first behavior was hypothesized to be stereotypically male. The second behavior was also believed to be stereotypically male and was the
aggressive behavior of characters. The second behavior was defined as a physical or verbal

Conflict Between Male And Female Characters
'Husband and wife may exchange roles but never escape the tyranny of roles themselves. Theatrical narratives appear to promote the very ideology of
difference they expose as arbitrary.' (B. Freedman)
In both tragedy and comedy, conflict between male and female characters can often be found at the crux of the theatrical narrative. In plays that present
on–stage opposition between men and women, it can be perceived that a typical set narrative structure is followed: the actions performed by male
characters incite women to castoff the role of passivity and impose their presence on stage . As a result of lapsing into a masculine mode of
behaviour, the females' traditional archetype is then left to be fulfilled by the male characters. In comedy, such sexual role reversals are found aplenty,
emphasised and made comic by cross–dressing whilst in tragedy, it appears rarer. Furthermore, in tragedy the role reversal focuses on the women's
function as usurping the roles designated for male characters. Euripides' Medea and Aristophanes' Women at Thesmophoria provide one with a
paradigm from each genre of how sexual role reversal can explore alternative representations of gender and result in having a transgressive impact on
dominating gender ideology. Both playwrights present complex characters that conform to and discard their traditional gender roles during the course
of the play's narratives

The Male Characters View Women As Property That Belongs
The male characters view women as property that belongs to them. Desdemona's father sees her as a piece of property long before Othello does.
When Brabantio approaches Othello for fleeing with Desdemona with his consent, he alleges that Othello is a "foul thief." Brabantio's accuses Othello
of stealing his daughter as if she is a piece of property that has been illegally taken away from him: "O, thou foul thief, where hast thou stowed my
/ daughter" (1.2.63–64). These same sentiments are spewed earlier in the play when Iago awakens Brabantio that his daughter has run away with Othello
: "Awake! what, ho, Brabantio! thieves! thieves! thieves! / Look to your house, your daughter and your bags! / Thieves! thieves!" (1.1.77–79). It is ironic

Although Emilia pleads Desdemona's innocence, he refuses to listen because he regards a word of a man over a woman's. He views Desdemona as
his possession and he feels like he can do whatever he wants to her. Through Emilia's character, Shakespeare points out the double standards that exist
between men and women. Emilia recognizes there 's a double standard when it comes to gender and fidelity and she emphatically objects:
Why, we have galls, and though we have some grace, /Yet have we some revenge. Let husbands know/Their wives have sense like them. They see,
and smell, /And have their palates both for sweet and sour, /As husbands have. What is it that they do/When they change us for others? Is it sport? /I
think it is. And doth affection breed it? /I think it doth. Is 't frailty that thus errs?/It is so too. And have not we affections, /Desires for sport, and
frailty, as men have? /Then let them use us well. Else let them know, /The ills we do, their ills instruct us so. (4.3.87–98).
According to Emilia, husbands cheat on their wives and often physically abuse them, provoking women to wander. She recognizes that women have
the same sexual desires as men and she acknowledges that women have some of the same imperfections as their husbands. This is reminiscent of the
moment in The Merchant of Venice when Shylock said, "The villainy you teach me I will execute,

The Representation of Male and Female Characters in Two Comedies
Situation comedies as a whole are a conservative representation of life mainly due to the fact they are screened at prime family times and want as
large an audience as possible so try not to be too controversial. This means they very rarely challenge the status quo and re–enforce stereotypes. I am
looking at how male and female characters are represented and whether the way they are represented challenges the stereotypes associated with gender
differences.
The two situation comedies I have chosen are 'Friends' and 'Man About The House'. As Friends was made decades after Man About The House it
gives us a good insight into how male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Man About the House title sequence one of the two lead women, Chrissy, is seen loosing her shoe while getting bundled onto a bus. This
portrays her as being 'dippy' and 'dizzy' which does not challenge the stereotype that women are the vulnerable gender. Jo, the other lead female is
seen leaving a tube station and a blind man takes of his glasses to stare at her as she walks down the road empathising how attractive she is meant to
be. This however simply supports the stereotype that women are sex objects. In the Friends title sequence the man are portrayed doing macho poses
whereas the women are seen doing much more 'girly' poses like playing with umbrellas which does little to promote the idea women are no longer jus
pretty objects.
A huge drive for those protesting for women's liberation was equal rights in the work place, there should be just as many women in high up jobs as
men. Whether this is true or not in reality is debateable, but what jobs males and females have in popular sitcoms sends out a clear message to those
watching. In Friends the three males have successful and appealing careers, Ross is a university lecturer and has a PhD, Joey is an actor in a popular
soap series at one point and Chandler

Essay on Little Red Riding Hood
Throughout literature, authors employ a variety of strategies to highlight the central message being conveyed to the audience. Analyzing pieces of
literature through the gender critics lens accentuates what the author believes to be masculine or feminine and that society and culture determines the
gender responsibility of an individual. In the classic fairytale Little Red Riding Hood, the gender strategies appear through the typical fragile women of
the mother and the grandmother, the heartless and clever male wolf, and the naГЇve and vulnerable girl as little red riding hood. In the classical tale of

Highlighting that the women were inferior to him, the wolf plans to "be clever about this that the [he] can make a good meal out of the two of them"
(Hyman 8). He gradually formulates a strategy to hoodwink the adolescent into entrusting him. By doing this, he reveals that the author subconsciously
believes men to be of such evasiveness. He seems gentle and kind, but his true character lies under the mask of kindness. The gentle wolves become the
most dangerous in these varieties of narratives, because they shadow the infantile, naГЇve girls, and swindle them into trusting them before they
commence to do the unthinkable act of deceiving the women (Bettelheim 168). The wolf's superior nature as a male character provides a character foil
for the lady–like traits of Little Red Riding Hood as he overpowers her with his male authority and intelligence. As Little Red Riding Hood blindly
follows the wolf's commands and becomes the weaker of the two characters, she proves the idea that being raised in a society where the women
continue to allow themselves to be suppressed into the kitchen and household chores affects the gender role that she takes on herself. As Little Red
Riding Hood begins to leave on her journey, her mother proves her lack of faith in the intelligence of her daughter as she instructs her to not
"daydream and stray off the path" (Hyman 3). She continues on her journey, and the wolf sees her from

Representation Of Gender Roles And Violence In James...
Introduction
James Bond has been a popular icon since the release of Casino Royale by Ian Fleming in 1953, with many wanting to be him or to be with him
(SOURCE). The franchise has created characters which encompasses the stereotypical and culturally defined characteristics that each gender should
possess; with men displaying masculine features such as assertiveness and aggressiveness, while females are portrayed as secondary characters who
are submissive. The latest reboot of Bond has attempted to bring the storyline into the modern age. By doing so, the films have attempted to align the
depiction of each character to be inclusive of how western societies now define each gender and their characteristics.
The purpose of this critique is to analyse the influence that gender has on the characters and the storyline of James Bond's Skyfall (SOURCE). To
understand the influence, a constructivist perspective on gender will be incorporated. The constructivist theory explains gender to be learnt patterns of
behaviour which are influenced by cultural norms (SOURCE). As a result, the critique will examine how the depictions of gender and crime in Skyfall
incorporates the western attitude towards gender roles and violence, as well as making reference to the relationship between gender and power.

Gender In The Entertainment Industry
Throughout the years, the entertainment industry has had many effects on society such showing us what are societies expectations. One huge factor
that the entertainment industry affects is how gender is constructed and how hegemonic masculinity is part of our gender narrative in the US. In
mainstream media, ranging from music to television, we usually see or hear women taking roles as someone is weaker or doesn't have the same
power as men. In the music industry, women are shown as objects or property. In todays culture the music genre that has taken over our generation
is rap and hip hop. Some of the most popular male rappers are Snoop Dog, Ice Cube, The Game and many others. These rappers have one thing in
common in their music when it comes to talking about females, which is degrading women. Their lyrics usually consists of calling women "bitches"
or "hoes" or any other word that demeans women. Recently, a new rapper has come up and many praise her for being a female rapper and being on the
billboards number 1 spot for her song Bodak Yellow and her name is Cardi B. Cardi B song talks about how she raised up fro being a stripper to
now an artist known worldwide. Although many love her song, feminist's wish that she could of made her art without bring other women down.
In Cardi B's song, she still called women and herself a "bitch" and she talks about "taking your man"; one of her popular lines in her song is "Im a
boss you're a worker bitch". Although many have criticized Bodak yellow as being degrading to women, realistically in todays society her song
wouldn't have been a huge hit if she didn't use terms like "bitch" or put herself against women. I also feel that in todays society women are often put
up against each other, instead of valuing each other and helping each other reach our goals, women often see other women as competition and because
of this reason Bodak Yellow was number one because not only did it appeal to men but it also related to many women who see other women as a
competition. In the television industry, women are often over sexualized, they show what a woman should look like and also show what roles women
should have in our society. For example, in the film we saw on Monday, Flirting

How Male Characters are Portrayed in The Taming of the Shrew
Male characters in the "Taming of the Shrew" play a significant role in the play as women in fact without the male characters one can say that the male
characters wouldn't react in the manner they do.
The characters I have selected are Tranio, Hortensio, Lucentio and Petruchio because I feel they play more significant roles in the play then any of the
other male characters due to the fact that three of them are suitors and that one dramatically influences how the play develops.

Although Tranio at times has more power and influence over Lucentio and other character he is more then willing to fulfil his masters every wish and
command. It is ironic he isn't punished for assuming the role of a gentle man. This is due to the fact that he is fulfilling his masters' commands. This is
made evident throughout Shakespeare's plays such as in, " twelfth night" the role reversal is generally temporary and only admitted by the servants
master.
However everything must conclude and in act five Tranio is firmly put back I his place after all the tomfoolery have finished. Even though he has
been in a significant role of power he's never really posed a threat to the hierarchy of the play although he did create some discomfort and discontent
towards the older male characters.
Shakespeare's main purpose for Tranio is to undermine the system and create humour. He utilises irony to a great extent, the fact Tranio impersonates
his master demonstrates the power Tranio. He may not be of a noble class but his mind is as sharp as a razor blade and through this he is able to fulfil
Lucentios plans.

The Characteristics Of Male Characters In The Iliad
The Iliad, an ancient Greek classic poem by Homer, is set 10 years into the Trojan War. It is believed that the Gods, specifically Zeus, were
fascinated by war and initiated the Trojan battle as a way to reduce the increasing mortal population (Cartwright, "The Trojan War"). The war, fought
between the Greek and Trojan armies, would produce leaders on both sides who were their respective militaries greatest fighters. As such, several of
the male characters in the Iliad display heroic characteristics. Each have prominent strengths and weaknesses which are obvious at many times
throughout the conflicts played out in poem. Two key examples of such characters are Achilles and Hektor. These two characters have noticeable
differences in their approach to heroism. But despite their differences and the fact that they are fighting for opposing forces, they have several similar
traits as well. They both display behaviors that could be described as heroic.
According to Homer, Achilles, who is depicted as one of the Greek Archaean's most valuable warriors, and "glorious" Hektor, "who was ever the
bravest fighter of the Trojans (Homer, Iliad 6.460)", are esteemed and adored by citizens of both sides. They are considered the most important
characters in the Iliad. Their differences arise in the way they conduct their family affairs and relationships, their leadership of their respective armies,
and their interaction with the Gods. The prominent difference between Hektor

The Majority Of Male Characters
The majority of male characters in Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion appear to be fundamentally flawed in some important way. Freddy Eynsford–Hill is
raised as a gentleman and, thus, is a "fool" who has trouble hailing a cab, let alone finding any suitable occupation for himself. Henry Higgins is
well–educated but ill–mannered, alienating him from society due to his inconsideration for others. Alfred Doolittle appears to lack any sort of
morals and "seems equally free from fear and conscience." The only male figure who stands out is Colonel Pickering, who seems talented,
respectful, and compassionate compared to his competition. Even so, Pickering is only superficially a gentleman; his concern, respect, and
treatment for others are overshadowed by his lack of growth and the play's criticism of gentlemanly behavior as a whole. Pickering's true concern
and compassion for others, particularly Eliza, distinguish him from the other male characters. His first words to Eliza are, "won't you sit down?"
(Shaw II, 39). This courtesy, which Higgins does not extend, rightfully suggests that he "thought and felt" about her "as if [she] were something better
than a scullerymaid," much to Higgins' chagrin (V, 122). At the same time, Pickering is not "infatuated" unlike Freddy (V, 130), who laughably spends
most of his nights on Wimpole Street because "it's the only place where [he's] happy" (IV, 106). All Eliza wants is "a little kindness," and Pickering,

Female Characters Of The Movie ' The Beast '
The later Disney films, starting in the 1990s, offer the viewers a more varied choice of male characters, as well as heroes with more personality, wit,
and individuality. In fact, these animated movies introduce the concept of male villains, a status that was primarily reserved for evil queens and
witches in the previous fairytales. This new portrayal is shown in Beauty & The Beast with Gaston being a simple villager with grand ideas of
marriage and schemes of beast–killing. Unlike the prior Princes, Gaston is a man with power, talents, and recognition in the town. Every man wants to
be as strong and capable, and every woman is attracted to his ruggedly handsome good looks and charisma. Gaston is a powerful sex symbol, who
happens to be arrogant, misogynistic, chauvinist man who needs to control everything, as displayed by his need to marry the reluctant Belle, imprison
her father, and kill the one she loves.
Gaston is Beauty & the Beast's evil power, but also represents the new dichotomy between male and female characters in the 1990s. They are
separate from each other and both men and women grow to be less passive and unidentifiable, gaining new individual power. These new traits and
"male transformation of the 90s" could be a response to the criticism of masculinity of the 1980s, as suggested by Susan Jeffords in her article
(Jeffords 1963). In fact, as women were gaining more and more independence, some critics argued that men should go back to their previous

than I do. First off, I never watched the main series cause I heard it was bad and since I try my best to watch only good shows like Elfen Lied and
Air I never got around to watching this. From what I gather from the OVA is that Mr. Alpha Male here is engaged to some fancy blonde slut and she
doesn't want to put out or something along those lines. Anyways, since he's alpha as fuck he just starts going to town on her and turns her into a sex
crazed slave who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing an alpha male go to town on a girl and turn her into a sex crazed maniac who will do anything he wants makes me feel depressed. If he was
morbidly obese and in a power chair or some random idiot I would have found it better..but with an alpha male leading the pack I couldn't enjoy it as
much as I could have. Him being so alpha was disheartening and the "oh u fancy" slut was too fancy for my tastes. I like my women plain and boring
with unibrows and hairy armpits. Her bitchy attitude about "oh goddd you made me a dirty woman" and "you're disgusting for making a lady
incontinent" made me feel even more pathetic and the crushing reality of being a beta male set in. I saw that frog telling me "You will never
make a lady incontinent" and then the tears started flowing. In summary this OVA was not for me. If you are a true alpha male like Randy Savage
or Chris Benoit this would be right up your alley. But since I am nothing but a beta male I could not be entertained by such a program that obviously
caters to those who go to the gym daily and to the tanning salon 3 times a week...it's not for us people who are plain and generic people who lead
plain and generic lives. In conclusion, watching this anime shows the crushing reality that you will be forever alone and will never be an alpha

Feminist Criticism Of The Story 'Hills Like White Elephants'
A Feminist criticism on how Males and Females are portrayed in "Hills like White Elephants" In Ernst Hemingway's story "Hills like White
Elephants," the male and female characters are portrayed in a stereotypical male dominated relationship. The male main character "the man" is
portrayed as the influential character who is subtly persuading the main female character. The female main character "the girl" is portrayed as the
passive and impressable character who can be swayed by "the man". There are several examples of how "the man" uses his dominance in the
relationship to persuade "the girl" to make a decision on whether or not to get an abortion. The first example is seen when "the man" starts talking to
"the girl" after they have had

Analysis Of Viola Hastings 's ' She 's The Man '
a)First Topic
Viola Hastings, is the protagonist in the film She's The Man. She is a female soccer player at Cornwall University, until the school cuts her soccer
team off from the after school extracurricular activities program. After the sexist coach refuses her suggestion of joining the male soccer team, she
impersonates her brother and tryouts for the soccer team at Illyria. She believes the only way to attest her capability is if she is unable to join the male
soccer team at Cornwall is to beat them. Viola's character would be a negative realistic representation of women, because she's an athletic woman who
remains attractive in the male gaze perspective. In the male gaze we would expect her to be fragile, delicate and helpless woman rather than
goal–oriented and driven woman in order for her to remain attractive to the male audience and characters in the film.
Viola's devotion to soccer presents her as possessing too much boyishness to her mother and other adult females in the debutante society. She lacks
several feminine mannerisms. For instance, while Duke and Justin are physically fighting over her, she jumps on Justin's back and later removes
popcorn from her top in an unladylike fashion, of which she is reminded by her mother. There is a later scene in the film when the debutantes are
having dinner, Viola is chewing the chicken with her mouth open and Cheryl, the debutante coach, reminds her of her manners by saying "Viola,
darling. Remember, chew like you have

Essay on Biographical References in and Hemingway's Male...
Throughout the Nick Adams and other stories featuring dominant male figures, Ernest Hemingway teases the reader by drawing biographical
parallels to his own life. That is, he uses characters such as Nick Adams throughout many of his literary works in order to play off of his own
strengths as well as weaknesses: Nick, like Hemingway, is perceptive and bright but also insecure. Nick Adams as well as other significant male
characters, such as Frederick Henry in A Farewell to Arms and Jake Barnes in The Sun Also Rises personifies Hemingway in a sequential manner.
Initially, the Hemingway character appears to be impressionable, but he evolves into an isolated individual. Hemingway, due to an unusual childhood

Hemingway had to have his tonsils removed by a doctor after an earlier childhood accident (49). The operation is inferred to be successful but
Hemingway liked to hold grudges, whether real or imaginary. In "Indian Camp," after the caesarian procedure is completed, Nick Adams' father says, "I
haven't any anesthetic, but her screams are not important" (16). Not only was this a demeaning and boorish way of referring to the indigenous female
but the comment demonstrates his total indifference for the invasiveness of the procedure. Hemingway stated that he had always held it against his
father for taking out his tonsils without any anesthetic" (48).
To conclude the story the new–born situation lead to a discussion between Nick and his father, the doctor. They talk about death, probably in the same
unique manner that Ernest Hemingway and his father did. The similarities to Nick Adams personal life are unmistakably reflected in Hemingway's.
Hemingway's father, Ed Hemingway, was in fact a doctor and would also take his son to Indian villages in Michigan. The Indians there were the
Ojibwa Indians who lived near Walloon Lake in northern Michigan (23). In fact, Arthur Waldhorn states in Reader's Guide to Ernest Hemingway that

Masculinity And Its Perception By Male Characters Essay
James Baldwin is a wonderful author in regards to weaving certain topics, both controversial and non–controversial, into his texts. The struggle with
masculinity is one of a plethora of topics that Baldwin discusses. Although they might seem insignificant, they serve a great purpose in introducing the
societal views of these ideas and definitions through different perspectives. Masculinity and its perception by male characters is a topic that is touched
on in many of his texts. Whether it's through the difficulty behind understanding masculinity or using it as a façade to cloak another secret, Baldwin's
characters bring a numerous amount of questions surrounding the idea of what masculinity is and what it serves others in society. This topic relates to
how 21st Century American society views men and the importance of a masculine identity. There is this immense backing of the idea that an ideal man
is this macho, testosterone–driven individual who can only discuss sports, drink large amounts of alcohol, and explicit sexual interactions with
women, or what is now considered "hypermasculinity". "Hypermasculinity is what society paints as what a man should be", states Tratel Ingram,
writer for MTV Voices and author of the article The Pressure to be Masculine. "Hypermasculinity can be defined as a term for the exaggeration of
male stereotypical behavior, such as an emphasis on physical strength, aggression, and sexuality... It's extremely damaging to men and boys
everywhere."

Of Male Characters In Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, And...
As a playwright, William Shakespeare has formed male characters to be able to justify radical acts of violence because they are specifically male.
These behaviors are often then reinforced by other characters by putting the blame of the male's actions on another. Female characters in particular are
a juxtaposition of the male role of being reckless, by saying essentially that they are unable to do such things because they are not men. Examples of
these instances are in the plays Much Ado About Nothing,Othello, and Macbeth.
A parallel scene to this is in Othello. Othello kills Desdemona because he believes that she was unfaithful to him in scene five. Initially Othello was
going to be executed because it was unknown that he thought Desdemona was disloyal and it was thought that Othello killed out of hatred. Lodovico
talks to Othello, and learns that Iago had tricked Othello into this. Lodovico does give Othello the consequence of imprisonment, but this shows that he
does not believe that Othello should suffer the full repercussions of what he has done because he was tricked, and thought that Desdemona was
unfaithful. Even if one is deceived to believe such a thing had happen, it does not justify killing another. With Lodovico's response, it is verified that he
believes that a natural reaction would be to do so.
The two women were faced with death because of infidelity. The reasoning behind both actions taken by the male characters were because it is out of
honor.

Comparing male and female roles on television such as, social, and behavior, can relate to conversation and acts between males and females based on
how we view our society today. This paper will address the difference between male and female characters in the entertainment industry. Gender roles
on television mostly view men as dominating, strong leading characters; however the industry also shows women as nagging characters, sex objects,
and weaklings. Although not all television portrays this; it all depends on the viewer for example, television for women often shows woman characters

The Female Image Of The Media Essay
The Female Image in the Media
The world is full of many people. All are from various parts of world, they come from various backgrounds, and have different stories to tell.
However, there are linking values that can bring us together. It can be race, sexuality, or even gender. Gender tends to be split into two ways in today's
society. People chose to be either male or female. And while this divide is not the most accurate, it is how people tend to be portrayed. In today 's
society the media is one of the most efficient parts of our society to transfer thoughts and ideals and one of the most influential on portraying what
is the newest trend and what is the model that people should aim for. This power is very important; however, it could be seen as a bad thing. People
who watch television or read magazines or newspapers absorb what is given to them whether it is positive or negative. This is a problem for what the
female image has come to. The female image that is portrayed in the various platforms of media such as, television, gaming, and movies is what I
intend on focusing on.
In the seventy plus years since its invention, the television has been the one of the driving forces to broadcast information and entertainment all
across the world. While in the past television was very geared towards the cis white male demographic, in today's time it is common to see some
imaging of people of all races, sexualities, genders, and other categories that cater towards a range of people,

Male Characters In Kate Chopin's The Awakening

role in their awakening. Although each male character has a different personality and role in the story, all three men have one thing in common; they
are each a product of the conditioning of the patriarchal society they were raised in. In the 19th century, society was very much a male dominated
arena. The men would go to work and be financially responsible for the family, while their wife would stay at home and take care of the home and

Male Characters In Federico Garcia Lorca's Blood Wedding
Federico Garcia Lorca, a playwright known for his strong connection to leftist views, masterfully reflects the events and characters in his play Blood
Wedding, to the tensions leading to the Spanish Civil War. With this intention/Henceforth, the two main male characters, Bridegroom and Leonardo,
represent the two major political parties of Spain in the 1920's and 30's, Nationalists and Republicans. In this essay, parallels will be drawn to connect
how Lorca symbolizes the tensions leading up to the Spanish Civil War, in his play Blood Wedding.
In the 1920's and 30's, Spain was under a lot of political strain and tensions, which would eventually lead to the Spanish Civil War. There was a major
political divide between the Republicans and Nationalists. Nationalists, the right–wing government, had a major supporter base consisting of:
landowners, military leaders, and the Roman Catholic Church. On the other hand, Republicans who were the polar opposite, being the left–wing
administration, had supporter base consisting of: urban workers, agricultural labourers, communists, and the educated middle class. The Republican
aim was to create a modern democracy by limiting the power of the army and the Roman Catholic Church and empowering trade unions and owners.
Conversely, Nationalists had a more conservative aim which was to protect those who were powerful and wealthy, keep Catholicism the predominant
religion in Spain, and creating a powerful army. With this in mind, it is quite

The Male Character In Steven Millhauser's Miracle Polish
Out of the three short stories I've read so far, by far the character that stands out the most to me is the male character in Steven Millhauser's "Miracle

and flaws. The author's ability to establish a meek and somewhat awkward personality to this character really intrigued me and made me want to learn
what made him the person he became. With his nuanced use of dialogue, Millhauser added another layer to this character. We begin to formulate a
persona of this character that is not only meek and timid in his physical appearance, but also in the way he speaks and interacts like Monica. He's the

Star Wars: The Role Of Female Characters In Films
Actually, that is true. There's no right reason female characters always speak so much less than male characters in films. There was probably no
intention to make men lead the progress of a story, but in fact filmmakers inadvertently caused a gender inequality through filming businesses.
According to New York Film Academy Presents, only 30.8% of speaking characters were women in the top 500 films released from 2007 to 2012 and
average ratio of male actors to female actors is 2.25:1. The influence of the media including films on people are substantial. Small kids may think

The leading role was a woman(Rey) and she fought a villain at the end. This casting was surprising, revolutional and even controversial considering
the fact that female characters in Star Wars, such as Leia and PadmГ©, were simply a bystander and someone that male characters had to defend.
There was a massive opposition against the controversial concept of making the leading role woman even though the leading roles in the last six films
were men. However, the film was globally accepted and got nominated for Oscars. In addition, the film also encouraged anti–racism, choosing a black
person(Finn) to play the second most important character in the film. As a result, some racist Star Wars fans around the world also disagreed to the
casting. Overall, Star Wars played a significant role in changing stereotypes of female and black and encouraged equal treatment to those who are
discriminated. It's expected that more of these films, which allow everybody to participate in filming, come out in the future. However, still 78% of
the dialogue in the film was spoken by men and Finn had more dialogue than Rey so the problem does still

Male And Female Characters In 'A Streetcar Named...
Male and female writers communicate differently as to how a character is portrayed. The way female characters are depicted in short stories, poems,
books, and essays all change depending on the writer. The perspective changes due to how the writer sees things and how they relate to the character.
Male writers insinuate how a female character is depending on their view of the world and other females. Female writers resemble the female
characters they write about and how much they relate to their life to the character. For example, the reader can compare A Streetcar Named Desire by
Tennessee Williams and "A New England Nun" by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman to see the difference in comparison of female characters by writers of the
opposite sex. The formal writing of males and females contradict each other by way of contrasting views. A Streetcar Named Desire is written by a
male by the name of Tennessee Williams. His character Blanche DuBois struggles with many different circumstances through out her life. One of
those things being the fact that she found out her late husband was gay and then committed suicide. This broke her heart and she resorted to lying
about several things. She would lie so much that when she stopped lying no one believed her any more and had determined she had become mentally
ill. By the end of the story her sister is sending her to a mental hospital where she will end up dying. Williams constructs Blanche DuBois the way he
believes women behave. He views

Children 's Television Programming : Gender Stereotypic...
The purpose of the following study is to evaluate the extent to which children's television programming contains gender–stereotypic messages. In the
study, a class of experimenters spent 30 minutes watching a children's cartoon from year 2000 to year 2015. A list of role behaviors were made into
operational definitions and used to determine the behavior of characters. While watching the cartoon, experimenters were to compute the total number
of female and male characters, and watch for gender–stereotypic messages by identifying the role behaviors using a coding sheet, and choose a
specific behavior to make a prediction about. The class results were then analyzed using a paired–samples t–test. The results indicated there were
overall more male characters represented in the cartoons, and that male characters exhibited more authoritative roles compared to female characters.
Cultural Messages about Gender Roles: Analysis of Children's Media Gender stereotyping is essentially associating certain characteristics or behaviors
to either men or women. Gender stereotyping can be found in many media outlets including magazines, movies, and T.V shows. Women are normally
portrayed as more emotional characters and tend to have domestic roles, while men have more authoritative roles and seem to appear more frequently
(Browne, 1998). Gender stereotyping can lead to subconscious negative or positive behaviors towards a certain sex. Gender roles have been commonly

of the extra attention that their lovers received from other admirers. When studying both poems, the reader can create in their mind a vivid picture of

The poet makes the murder of Porphyria sound very peaceful and calm. It is clear to the reader that the male protagonist cannot bear the thought of not
having Porphyria with him and wants to stay with
Porphyria in this way forever. Because of the way Browning portrays
Porphyria's lover's feelings, the reader can almost sympathise with the way that the male protagonist is feeling even in the event of
Porphyria's murder, 'all her hair in one long string I wound, three times her little throat around and strangled her'. With Browning creating such a big
build up to Porphyria's murder and explaining it in detail, the reader recognises that this dramatic event does mean a lot to the male protagonist and
Browning makes sure that this is the key event in the poem, and that it does not go unnoticed.
In 'My Last Duchess' the relationship between the Duke and the Duchess seems a lot less passionate and the reader could get the impression that the

Sexualization Of Women In Action Movies Essay
Sexualization is one of the obvious characteristics in action movies. Sexualization represents the issue of gender inequality, showing the imbalanced
participation of characters with different gender in action movies. When talking about the sexualization in action movies, we firstly need to identify the
stereotypes of females in action movies. As we know, the action movies usually present the heroism of the main characters, who are mostly males. To
frame the heroism of male characters, it is routine to add female characters in action movies. Such female characters are fragile, vulnerable and weak.
They usually need the protection of males. In action movies, the typical female characters are "wife" and "daughter". In action movies, especially the

In action movies, many plots contain violent and dangerous scenes. Usually, females cannot burden such dangerous tasks in which even male
characters usually get injured (Dargis, 2014). This phenomenon can be attributed to the division of work among females and males. In the long
history, males are the ones who join in the army and participate in the war. Females are the ones who prepare supplies at home. Therefore, females
seldom join in violent fights. Therefore, the sexualization of action movies is related to the social position of females in history. Fortunately, females
are taking more responsibilities from males in action movies. For example, Michelle MacLaren is hired to direct the movie Wonder Woman, which is
an action movie with female main characters. This is a breakthrough in the history of action movies and demonstrates a trend of De–sexualization in
action movies. Also, female–led action movies like Underworld: Evolution show a direct response to decades of suppression of females in action
movies as well as the society (Meslow,

Gender Stereotypes Of Male Characters In Video Games
Male characters in gaming count according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Male_characters_in_video_games are 225.
Female gaming characters according to http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Women_Characters_in_Video_Games are 176. Now before
you come after me saying "see that's proof of sexism" lets just realize that ALOT of the male characters in these games have little to no personality.
Or they are simply huge bulky guys made to simply kill things that are it. Example, Doom guy from the games first introduced December 10, 1993

example, if a male gaming character is shirtless, no one gives a shit, if a female gaming character, is say in a bikini, its "sexualized". Point and case,

Negative Stereotypes In Video Games

  • 1. Negative Stereotypes In Video Games According to several sources around 42% of the American population plays video games, and around 1.2 billion people worldwide play video games today. Gaming has become an increasingly more popular hobby since its creation. As such the medium has obviously attracted a multitude of different people and groups, all consisting of diverse backgrounds, body types, sexes, races, nationalities and the like. However, contrary to the numerous demographics video games have come to attract, it is very evident the vast majority of them do not seem to be marketed toward many of them via game characters, and their importance, if any, in a game. Video games show an overwhelming amount of whitemale characters, despite the many demographics they reach. Of the characters that are not white, or male, that are represented, are often represented poorly. For example, many black characters represented in video games are often characterized as vulgar, and violent. Women represented in games are often characterized as support characters, or objects of sexual desire. Considering forms of sexism, racism, and other such types of prejudices are still prominent in modern society, and these representations obviously do not help how people see these marginalized groups. Ultimately, these representations, or lack thereof, affect people in society in a number of ways, by perpetuating prejudice and harmful stereotypes. Media is one our society's greatest ways to spread information, though it's not always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Masculinity In Disney Hegemonic masculinity over the years has created an ideal image for males to look up too. There is a lack of evolution and a negative body image being represented with Disney. There is a high criteria in which every masculine character has to obtain. The media helps pressure the creation of the perfect male in which Disney is following over the years. Movies from 1970s to modern day movies show little evolution. With little to no evolution places an image for those watching an image that they need to obtain. Masculine characters in Disney have a lack of change; these characters have multiple traits what every male character has to demonstration. Masculinity, and hyper masculinity is broadly concerned towards the social construction to what it means to "be a man". Many successful films will always be based around the idea white male and the "11 validated scales of masculine conformity and one global index "(P.5). These elevens are main focuses CMNI look for; they are "(a)winning, (b)emotional Control, (c)Risk–Taking, (d)Violence, (e)dominance, (f)Playboy, (g)Self –Reliance, (h)Primacy of Work, (i)Power Over Women, (j)Disdain from Homosexuals, and (k)Pursuit of status" (PP 13); many are blind sighted by the ideal of finding a man under that has less then five masculinity scale traits. • 3. The Life And Loves Of A She-Devil Character Analysis In society and our entertainment, men are often portrayed as the stronger and more dominant gender. They often have a privileged status in the world since the society we live in a mostly patriarchal. However, there are some forms of entertainment that show men as inferior to women. Women often show hatred towards men and usually can be hostile . This is known as anti–male or missandry. In Fay Weldon's novel The Life and Loves of a She–Devil, Ruth Patchett's husband, Bobbo, is having an affair with a woman named Mary Fisher. Ruth then goes through vigourous trials and completely reinvents herself in order to take revenge on Mary for stealing her husband and to get Bobbo back into her life. Although people may have a different view than I do, I believe that The Life and Loves of a She–Devil is not anti–male because Ruth's entire life revolves around Bobbo, because the women are depicted as weak and needing men and because the men in the story are well–rounded characters unlike the women. In The Lives and Loves of a She–Devil, Ruth Patchett learns that her husband Bobbo is having an affair with Mary Fisher, a beautiful woman. After Bobbo leaves to go live with his mistress, Ruth begins to consider herself a she–devil which then causes her to plan her revenge against the new couple. Ruth cunningly ruins both Mary Fisher and Bobbo's lives by using several different aliases to in order to get Bobbo away from Mary Fisher. After Bobbo is found guilty of embezzlement, he goes to ... • 4. Male Dominance Over Female Characters In The Asylum By... Ishita Aggarwal END 2D8 Oct. 16th, 2017 Word Count: 1062 Hidden by Fear or Insecurity? Male Dominance over Female characters in John Harwood's novel, The Asylum Today's society perceives women to be stronger and dominant individuals in comparison to men, although, in reality, there are numerous circumstances in which men exhibit more power and control over the important decisions in women's lives. In his novel, The Asylum, John Harwood portrays the ways in which men exert power over women through the relationships between Rosina and her father as well as Dr. Straker and Georgina. Through the characters of Rosina and Georgina, Harwood depicts that women face many insecurities which ultimately causes the relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than admitting her true feelings, Rosina gives her consent for the alliance in order to please her father due to her fear of him, exemplifying that her diffident personality in the novel leads to the tenuous bonds between them both. Furthermore, Rosina's father's obedience leads him to become very stern towards Rosina's freedom as "Your [Rosina's] duty is to obey me, and you will learn to like him [Mr. Bradstone] because I wish it... Until then, as I say, you are to remain outdoors: I have given orders to ensure that you do. Disobey me in this, and you will be confined to your room" (135–136). Thomas's ascendancy over his daughter's decisions is evident as he is very strict and intimidating, Rosina must obey commands in order to live with him or else there are bound to be dire consequences. Instead of fighting for her rights and freedom, Rosina feebly agrees to her father's instructions, thus reinforcing the one–sided relationship between both father and daughter. Moving on, Georgina and Dr. Straker's bond also begins to diminish as Dr. Straker's dominance over Georgina's confinement at Tregannon Asylum eventually leads to the loss of control over her decisions. First and foremost, at the asylum, Georgina wakes up to find her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Male Characters Of Disney Films The male characters in Disney films have evolved with today's society, in which male and female counterparts are equal. In the era of Walt Disney, the prince saved the princess, as seen in Sleeping Beauty. The prince possessed masculine or hypermasculine characteristics– strong, muscular, broad, tall, ambitious and hard. However, in later Disney the male characters began to soften, as seen in Hercules. In Masculinity as Social Semiotic Identity Politics and Gender in Disney Animated Films, Robyn McCallum discussed how the male protagonist in films such as Mulan, Hercules and Tarzan transformed into a "new man", a man that possessed stereotypical female traits (McCalllum, 2002). However, it can be argued that although the "new man" has mentally changed they have physically stayed the same since Sleeping Beauty. In classic Disney, the prince rescued the distressed princess. The prince could be classified as hypermasculine, – strong, muscular, hard, tall and broad. Although he does play a large role in Disney films, often the deuteragonist, his name is not commonly used. They are simply known as "The Prince" or "Prince Charming" as represented in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Cinderella. Their proper names, Prince Florian (The Prince) and Prince Henry (Prince Charming), are seldom used. Additionally, the prince does not have as much screen time when compared to their female counterparts. In the original Cinderella, Prince Charming receives only six minutes of screen ... • 6. The Role Of Women 's Video Games When discussing the role of women in video games, it is important to establish what an acceptable female character is. An acceptable female character has her own motivations that are not dependent on a male character, is not overtly sexualized, and has a multi–dimensional personality. A well –written female character has a storyline that is independent of other male characters and does not serve to further male storylines. The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog, follows Joel as he leads Ellie, a young girl, across a post–apocalyptic world. Ellie, rather than existing as a tool to further Joel's man–pain, acts on her own inhibitions. Ellie also becomes a playable character at certain points and Alexandra Neonakis, part of the team that created the game, states that these are some of the most important plot points (JAMSTEW, 2015). The story itself focuses on the fact that she may contain the cure to the infection that has riddled the United States, turning people into a zombie–like state. While some may see the relationship of Joel and Ellie as merely Joel using Ellie for his own purposes, it is more of a mutual relationship. With the influence of Joel and other factors, Ellie goes on a "journey from a damsel in distress to a fully capable and complex character", states Neonakis (JAMSTEW, 2015). The game attempted to showcase a relationship between man and women where each needed each other for support and to improve themselves. A women's sexuality can be an integral part ... • 7. Male Characters And Traditional Life In Willa Cather's O... Willa Cather's, book O Pioneers represents a completely different way of life than traditional life is the early 1900's . Traditionally, a man's main job consists of hard labor and a woman's job involves having children and focusing on home life. Although this happens to be the "norm" of the time, charcters in O Pioneers do quite the opposite. Carl Linstrum, a male character in the novel, does not come across as your "typical" 1900's man. Another bold character, Alexandra Bergson, defies the social stereotype widely accepted at the time of O Pioneers. She supports herself and does everything that people of her time period believes a man should do. Most relationships being male dominated, it's obvious that a lot men don't have respect for women during this time. Carl Linstrum possesses the characteristics of a sensitive and compassionate man who is in touch with his emotions. He doesn't let preconceived notions of what a man should be like control him. The book refers to Carl as a "thin, frail boy, with brooding eyes, and very quiet movements"(Cather 4). Carl doesn't have the sharp facial features and doesn't look masculine. A mouth "too sensitive for a boys", describes Carl's mouth, according to the narrator. Throughout the book, Carl shows what it means to stand out. Carl tends to act the complete opposite of how everyone expects a man to act. Carl also depends on Alexandra like a wife would depend on their husband (Cather 20). It's quite evident throughout O ... • 8. The Yellow Wallpaper, By Charlotte Perkins Gilman Essay Charlotte Perkins Gilman does a remarkable job letting us get inside the head of her unnamed main character in "The Yellow Wallpaper" giving us a taste of the female psyche, in particular showing how historically some women subject themselves to the control of men. Alternatively, Nick Hornby does something altogether similar with "High Fidelity", introducing us to Rob Fleming, whose male psyche reveals, among other things, how men focus and base their success one expectations influenced by gender roles. In the paragraphs that follow, I will attempt to compare and contrast Gilman's and Hornby's findings regarding the male and female psyche. In particular, I hope to explore how gender divisions have vastly influenced society. Our country's past holds truths behind the fact that men have been known to have control over women and to be the dominant. Charlotte Perkins Gilman gives us an example of such dominance within the first few pages of the short story, "The Yellow Wallpaper" which was written in the format of a journal belonging to an unnamed main character whom states "There comes John, and I must put this away, ––– he hates to have me write a word," (Gilman 13). Right away readers are aware of the fear that she holds of her husband, for she does not go against or do anything of which he would not allow. Our main character loves to write in her journal, and even sees writing in the journal as a way to achieve better mental health, yet she is afraid to let her husband see ... • 9. Disney Princess Movies, On Gender Stereotyping Introduction Founded by Groves in 1999, the Cultivation Theory came into existence (Graves, 1999). The theory states that exposure to television develops social behavior and norms. At a young age, we are only just entering the stage in their lives where we are beginning to think for ourselves and develop our own personal beliefs and values. Our minds are gullible and can be easily manipulated. This particular empirical study analyzes the effects due to media, specifically Disney princess movies, on gender stereotyping. Gender stereotyping can be defined as common generalizations used to describe gender roles in society, specific attributes associated with each gender, and the differences between each. Many a time, gender stereotypes are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Literature Review Roles Throughout the Disney films, traditional feminine and masculine characteristics are exhibited by each respectively through behaviors and decisions (Graves, 1999). Thompson and Zerbinos(1995) conducted a study consisting of 89 children (ages four to nine years) to analyze their interpretation of how female and male characters are presented in Disney movies. The results displayed that boys were more active and aggressive, while girls were viewed as loving, domestic, and concerned with their appearances (Thompson and Zerbinos, 1995). In Cinderella, for instance, Cinderella is portrayed as a "slave" to her step–mother. She is mainly found doing domestic work, such as cooking and cleaning, without complaint. She even sings and smiles throughout. Domestic work is used as an act of submission to the superior of the female character and is shown as a method to gain love from others. Charlotte, from The Princess and the Frog, is constantly shown doing housework as well. Her mother is even known as "the finest seamstress in New Orleans," as sewing is highly associated with female characteristics (Towbin et al, 2008). As can be explained via the cultivation theory, the ideology demonstrated by Disney films that domestic work is a female chore causes girls and boys to form that particular social standard and follow it just so. Even today, the role of the woman was shown to be motherly and house ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of Disney Films From Netflix And From Google... For the purposes of this study we generated a list of popularized Disney movies from NetflixВ® and from Google searches of the top Disney movies from the 1980s and 1990s. We then took the generated list and randomly assigned each movie a number and choose five different Disney movies. The movies selected were Beauty and the Beast (1991), Mulan (1998), Hercules (1997), Little Mermaid (1989), and Aladdin (1992). The four researchers were then all assigned a number and randomly paired with a movie to independently watch and code with the exception of the final movie which acted was watched by each member of the group and coded for reliability. Procedure This study was designed as an event based, structure observational study where researchers identified a set four behaviors prior to the study that which theoretically two were stereotypically male and the remaining two were stereotypical female. Prior to the study researchers generated four behaviors that they believed represented stereotypical gender roles. The first behavior was giving orders and was defined as, a verbal command where the character is demanding a behavior of another character. Commanding phrase examples include a character stating "you do this" or "stop" or "leave my castle now." The first behavior was hypothesized to be stereotypically male. The second behavior was also believed to be stereotypically male and was the aggressive behavior of characters. The second behavior was defined as a physical or verbal ... • 11. Conflict Between Male And Female Characters 'Husband and wife may exchange roles but never escape the tyranny of roles themselves. Theatrical narratives appear to promote the very ideology of difference they expose as arbitrary.' (B. Freedman) In both tragedy and comedy, conflict between male and female characters can often be found at the crux of the theatrical narrative. In plays that present on–stage opposition between men and women, it can be perceived that a typical set narrative structure is followed: the actions performed by male characters incite women to castoff the role of passivity and impose their presence on stage . As a result of lapsing into a masculine mode of behaviour, the females' traditional archetype is then left to be fulfilled by the male characters. In comedy, such sexual role reversals are found aplenty, emphasised and made comic by cross–dressing whilst in tragedy, it appears rarer. Furthermore, in tragedy the role reversal focuses on the women's function as usurping the roles designated for male characters. Euripides' Medea and Aristophanes' Women at Thesmophoria provide one with a paradigm from each genre of how sexual role reversal can explore alternative representations of gender and result in having a transgressive impact on dominating gender ideology. Both playwrights present complex characters that conform to and discard their traditional gender roles during the course of the play's narratives Barbara Freedman's Frame–up: Feminism, Psychoanalysis, Theatre provides an appropriate ... • 12. The Male Characters View Women As Property That Belongs The male characters view women as property that belongs to them. Desdemona's father sees her as a piece of property long before Othello does. When Brabantio approaches Othello for fleeing with Desdemona with his consent, he alleges that Othello is a "foul thief." Brabantio's accuses Othello of stealing his daughter as if she is a piece of property that has been illegally taken away from him: "O, thou foul thief, where hast thou stowed my / daughter" (1.2.63–64). These same sentiments are spewed earlier in the play when Iago awakens Brabantio that his daughter has run away with Othello : "Awake! what, ho, Brabantio! thieves! thieves! thieves! / Look to your house, your daughter and your bags! / Thieves! thieves!" (1.1.77–79). It is ironic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Emilia pleads Desdemona's innocence, he refuses to listen because he regards a word of a man over a woman's. He views Desdemona as his possession and he feels like he can do whatever he wants to her. Through Emilia's character, Shakespeare points out the double standards that exist between men and women. Emilia recognizes there 's a double standard when it comes to gender and fidelity and she emphatically objects: Why, we have galls, and though we have some grace, /Yet have we some revenge. Let husbands know/Their wives have sense like them. They see, and smell, /And have their palates both for sweet and sour, /As husbands have. What is it that they do/When they change us for others? Is it sport? /I think it is. And doth affection breed it? /I think it doth. Is 't frailty that thus errs?/It is so too. And have not we affections, /Desires for sport, and frailty, as men have? /Then let them use us well. Else let them know, /The ills we do, their ills instruct us so. (4.3.87–98). According to Emilia, husbands cheat on their wives and often physically abuse them, provoking women to wander. She recognizes that women have the same sexual desires as men and she acknowledges that women have some of the same imperfections as their husbands. This is reminiscent of the moment in The Merchant of Venice when Shylock said, "The villainy you teach me I will execute, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Representation of Male and Female Characters in Two... The Representation of Male and Female Characters in Two Comedies Situation comedies as a whole are a conservative representation of life mainly due to the fact they are screened at prime family times and want as large an audience as possible so try not to be too controversial. This means they very rarely challenge the status quo and re–enforce stereotypes. I am looking at how male and female characters are represented and whether the way they are represented challenges the stereotypes associated with gender differences. The two situation comedies I have chosen are 'Friends' and 'Man About The House'. As Friends was made decades after Man About The House it gives us a good insight into how male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Man About the House title sequence one of the two lead women, Chrissy, is seen loosing her shoe while getting bundled onto a bus. This portrays her as being 'dippy' and 'dizzy' which does not challenge the stereotype that women are the vulnerable gender. Jo, the other lead female is seen leaving a tube station and a blind man takes of his glasses to stare at her as she walks down the road empathising how attractive she is meant to be. This however simply supports the stereotype that women are sex objects. In the Friends title sequence the man are portrayed doing macho poses whereas the women are seen doing much more 'girly' poses like playing with umbrellas which does little to promote the idea women are no longer jus pretty objects. A huge drive for those protesting for women's liberation was equal rights in the work place, there should be just as many women in high up jobs as men. Whether this is true or not in reality is debateable, but what jobs males and females have in popular sitcoms sends out a clear message to those watching. • 14. Essay on Little Red Riding Hood Throughout literature, authors employ a variety of strategies to highlight the central message being conveyed to the audience. Analyzing pieces of literature through the gender critics lens accentuates what the author believes to be masculine or feminine and that society and culture determines the gender responsibility of an individual. In the classic fairytale Little Red Riding Hood, the gender strategies appear through the typical fragile women of the mother and the grandmother, the heartless and clever male wolf, and the naГЇve and vulnerable girl as little red riding hood. In the classical tale of Little Red Riding Hood, Little Red Riding Hood leaves her mother to visit her grandmother, and both the women possess the feminine ... Highlighting that the women were inferior to him, the wolf plans to "be clever about this that the [he] can make a good meal out of the two of them" (Hyman 8). He gradually formulates a strategy to hoodwink the adolescent into entrusting him. By doing this, he reveals that the author subconsciously believes men to be of such evasiveness. He seems gentle and kind, but his true character lies under the mask of kindness. The gentle wolves become the most dangerous in these varieties of narratives, because they shadow the infantile, naГЇve girls, and swindle them into trusting them before they commence to do the unthinkable act of deceiving the women (Bettelheim 168). The wolf's superior nature as a male character provides a character foil for the lady–like traits of Little Red Riding Hood as he overpowers her with his male authority and intelligence. As Little Red Riding Hood blindly follows the wolf's commands and becomes the weaker of the two characters, she proves the idea that being raised in a society where the women continue to allow themselves to be suppressed into the kitchen and household chores affects the gender role that she takes on herself. As Little Red Riding Hood begins to leave on her journey, her mother proves her lack of faith in the intelligence of her daughter as she instructs her to not "daydream and stray off the path" (Hyman 3). The franchise has created characters which encompasses the stereotypical and culturally defined characteristics that each gender should possess; with men displaying masculine features such as assertiveness and aggressiveness, while females are portrayed as secondary characters who are submissive. The latest reboot of Bond has attempted to bring the storyline into the modern age. By doing so, the films have attempted to align the depiction of each character to be inclusive of how western societies now define each gender and their characteristics. The purpose of this critique is to analyse the influence that gender has on the characters and the storyline of James Bond's Skyfall (SOURCE). To understand the influence, a constructivist perspective on gender will be incorporated. The constructivist theory explains gender to be learnt patterns of behaviour which are influenced by cultural norms (SOURCE). As a result, the critique will examine how the depictions of gender and crime in Skyfall incorporates the western attitude towards gender roles and violence, as well as making reference to the relationship between gender and power. Gender and Media Media has the ability to reinforce any stereotypical image with most viewers unaware that they are being unconsciously exposed to this material (Kenschaft et al. 2015, ... • 16. Gender In The Entertainment Industry Throughout the years, the entertainment industry has had many effects on society such showing us what are societies expectations. One huge factor that the entertainment industry affects is how gender is constructed and how hegemonic masculinity is part of our gender narrative in the US. In mainstream media, ranging from music to television, we usually see or hear women taking roles as someone is weaker or doesn't have the same power as men. In the music industry, women are shown as objects or property. In todays culture the music genre that has taken over our generation is rap and hip hop. Some of the most popular male rappers are Snoop Dog, Ice Cube, The Game and many others. These rappers have one thing in common in their music when it comes to talking about females, which is degrading women. Their lyrics usually consists of calling women "bitches" or "hoes" or any other word that demeans women. Recently, a new rapper has come up and many praise her for being a female rapper and being on the billboards number 1 spot for her song Bodak Yellow and her name is Cardi B. Cardi B song talks about how she raised up fro being a stripper to now an artist known worldwide. Although many love her song, feminist's wish that she could of made her art without bring other women down. In Cardi B's song, she still called women and herself a "bitch" and she talks about "taking your man"; one of her popular lines in her song is "Im a boss you're a worker bitch". Although many have criticized Bodak yellow as being degrading to women, realistically in todays society her song wouldn't have been a huge hit if she didn't use terms like "bitch" or put herself against women. I also feel that in todays society women are often put up against each other, instead of valuing each other and helping each other reach our goals, women often see other women as competition and because of this reason Bodak Yellow was number one because not only did it appeal to men but it also related to many women who see other women as a competition. In the television industry, women are often over sexualized, they show what a woman should look like and also show what roles women should have in our society. For example, in the film we saw on Monday, Flirting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Male Characters are Portrayed in The Taming of the Shrew Male characters in the "Taming of the Shrew" play a significant role in the play as women in fact without the male characters one can say that the male characters wouldn't react in the manner they do. The characters I have selected are Tranio, Hortensio, Lucentio and Petruchio because I feel they play more significant roles in the play then any of the other male characters due to the fact that three of them are suitors and that one dramatically influences how the play develops. I will do this via textual analysis (by selecting relevant segments of text and giving my detailed opinion on what Shakespeare's intentions are in relation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Tranio at times has more power and influence over Lucentio and other character he is more then willing to fulfil his masters every wish and command. It is ironic he isn't punished for assuming the role of a gentle man. This is due to the fact that he is fulfilling his masters' commands. This is made evident throughout Shakespeare's plays such as in, " twelfth night" the role reversal is generally temporary and only admitted by the servants master. However everything must conclude and in act five Tranio is firmly put back I his place after all the tomfoolery have finished. Even though he has been in a significant role of power he's never really posed a threat to the hierarchy of the play although he did create some discomfort and discontent towards the older male characters. Shakespeare's main purpose for Tranio is to undermine the system and create humour. He utilises irony to a great extent, the fact Tranio impersonates his master demonstrates the power Tranio. He may not be of a noble class but his mind is as sharp as a razor blade and through this he is able to fulfil Lucentios plans. Hortenensio is another potential suitor for the fair hand of Bianca. He does not posses Petruchios vigour or Lucentios "sex appeal" and although he proclaims to be passionately in love with Bianca (act one scene two line 173–174) it is

  • 19. The Characteristics Of Male Characters In The Iliad The Iliad, an ancient Greek classic poem by Homer, is set 10 years into the Trojan War. It is believed that the Gods, specifically Zeus, were fascinated by war and initiated the Trojan battle as a way to reduce the increasing mortal population (Cartwright, "The Trojan War"). The war, fought between the Greek and Trojan armies, would produce leaders on both sides who were their respective militaries greatest fighters. As such, several of the male characters in the Iliad display heroic characteristics. Each have prominent strengths and weaknesses which are obvious at many times throughout the conflicts played out in poem. Two key examples of such characters are Achilles and Hektor. These two characters have noticeable differences in their approach to heroism. But despite their differences and the fact that they are fighting for opposing forces, they have several similar traits as well. They both display behaviors that could be described as heroic. According to Homer, Achilles, who is depicted as one of the Greek Archaean's most valuable warriors, and "glorious" Hektor, "who was ever the bravest fighter of the Trojans (Homer, Iliad 6.460)", are esteemed and adored by citizens of both sides. They are considered the most important characters in the Iliad. Their differences arise in the way they conduct their family affairs and relationships, their leadership of their respective armies, and their interaction with the Gods. • 20. The Majority Of Male Characters The majority of male characters in Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion appear to be fundamentally flawed in some important way. Freddy Eynsford–Hill is raised as a gentleman and, thus, is a "fool" who has trouble hailing a cab, let alone finding any suitable occupation for himself. Henry Higgins is well–educated but ill–mannered, alienating him from society due to his inconsideration for others. Alfred Doolittle appears to lack any sort of morals and "seems equally free from fear and conscience." The only male figure who stands out is Colonel Pickering, who seems talented, respectful, and compassionate compared to his competition. Even so, Pickering is only superficially a gentleman; his concern, respect, and treatment for others are overshadowed by his lack of growth and the play's criticism of gentlemanly behavior as a whole. Pickering's true concern and compassion for others, particularly Eliza, distinguish him from the other male characters. His first words to Eliza are, "won't you sit down?" (Shaw II, 39). This courtesy, which Higgins does not extend, rightfully suggests that he "thought and felt" about her "as if [she] were something better than a scullerymaid," much to Higgins' chagrin (V, 122). At the same time, Pickering is not "infatuated" unlike Freddy (V, 130), who laughably spends most of his nights on Wimpole Street because "it's the only place where [he's] happy" (IV, 106). • 21. Female Characters Of The Movie ' The Beast ' The later Disney films, starting in the 1990s, offer the viewers a more varied choice of male characters, as well as heroes with more personality, wit, and individuality. In fact, these animated movies introduce the concept of male villains, a status that was primarily reserved for evil queens and witches in the previous fairytales. This new portrayal is shown in Beauty & The Beast with Gaston being a simple villager with grand ideas of marriage and schemes of beast–killing. Unlike the prior Princes, Gaston is a man with power, talents, and recognition in the town. Every man wants to be as strong and capable, and every woman is attracted to his ruggedly handsome good looks and charisma. Gaston is a powerful sex symbol, who happens to be arrogant, misogynistic, chauvinist man who needs to control everything, as displayed by his need to marry the reluctant Belle, imprison her father, and kill the one she loves. Gaston is Beauty & the Beast's evil power, but also represents the new dichotomy between male and female characters in the 1990s. They are separate from each other and both men and women grow to be less passive and unidentifiable, gaining new individual power. These new traits and "male transformation of the 90s" could be a response to the criticism of masculinity of the 1980s, as suggested by Susan Jeffords in her article (Jeffords 1963). She is a female soccer player at Cornwall University, until the school cuts her soccer team off from the after school extracurricular activities program. After the sexist coach refuses her suggestion of joining the male soccer team, she impersonates her brother and tryouts for the soccer team at Illyria. She believes the only way to attest her capability is if she is unable to join the male soccer team at Cornwall is to beat them. Viola's character would be a negative realistic representation of women, because she's an athletic woman who remains attractive in the male gaze perspective. In the male gaze we would expect her to be fragile, delicate and helpless woman rather than goal–oriented and driven woman in order for her to remain attractive to the male audience and characters in the film. Viola's devotion to soccer presents her as possessing too much boyishness to her mother and other adult females in the debutante society. She lacks several feminine mannerisms. For instance, while Duke and Justin are physically fighting over her, she jumps on Justin's back and later removes popcorn from her top in an unladylike fashion, of which she is reminded by her mother. That is, he uses characters such as Nick Adams throughout many of his literary works in order to play off of his own strengths as well as weaknesses: Nick, like Hemingway, is perceptive and bright but also insecure. Nick Adams as well as other significant male characters, such as Frederick Henry in A Farewell to Arms and Jake Barnes in The Sun Also Rises personifies Hemingway in a sequential manner. Masculinity and its perception by male characters is a topic that is touched on in many of his texts. • 28. Of Male Characters In Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, And... As a playwright, William Shakespeare has formed male characters to be able to justify radical acts of violence because they are specifically male. These behaviors are often then reinforced by other characters by putting the blame of the male's actions on another. Female characters in particular are a juxtaposition of the male role of being reckless, by saying essentially that they are unable to do such things because they are not men. Examples of these instances are in the plays Much Ado About Nothing,Othello, and Macbeth. A parallel scene to this is in Othello. Othello kills Desdemona because he believes that she was unfaithful to him in scene five. Initially Othello was going to be executed because it was unknown that he thought Desdemona was disloyal and it was thought that Othello killed out of hatred. Lodovico talks to Othello, and learns that Iago had tricked Othello into this. Lodovico does give Othello the consequence of imprisonment, but this shows that he does not believe that Othello should suffer the full repercussions of what he has done because he was tricked, and thought that Desdemona was unfaithful. Even if one is deceived to believe such a thing had happen, it does not justify killing another. With Lodovico's response, it is verified that he believes that a natural reaction would be to do so. The two women were faced with death because of infidelity. The reasoning behind both actions taken by the male characters were because it is out of honor. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To frame the heroism of male characters, it is routine to add female characters in action movies. Such female characters are fragile, vulnerable and weak. They usually need the protection of males. In action movies, the typical female characters are "wife" and "daughter". In action movies, especially the ones who involve revenge, such female characters usually got ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In action movies, many plots contain violent and dangerous scenes. Usually, females cannot burden such dangerous tasks in which even male characters usually get injured (Dargis, 2014). This phenomenon can be attributed to the division of work among females and males. In the long history, males are the ones who join in the army and participate in the war. Females are the ones who prepare supplies at home. Therefore, females seldom join in violent fights. Therefore, the sexualization of action movies is related to the social position of females in history. Fortunately, females are taking more responsibilities from males in action movies. For example, Michelle MacLaren is hired to direct the movie Wonder Woman, which is an action movie with female main characters. This is a breakthrough in the history of action movies and demonstrates a trend of De–sexualization in action movies. Also, female–led action movies like Underworld: Evolution show a direct response to decades of suppression of females in action movies as well as the society (Meslow, ... • 39. Comparing the two poems Porphyria’s Lover and My Last... By comparing the two poems Porphyria's Lover and My Last Duchess, explore how Browning deals worth the theme of jealousy. Jealousy is a theme that occurs quite regularly in Browning's poems. This was particularly noticed in both of the poems 'Porphyria's Lover' and 'My Last Duchess' where in both cases, the male protagonists were jealous of the extra attention that their lovers received from other admirers. When studying both poems, the reader can create in their mind a vivid picture of both the female characters. However, because the male protagonists gave their view on their lovers, the reader is only given details about the male protagonists' feelings, not about his features or qualities. Because of this, it needs to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poet makes the murder of Porphyria sound very peaceful and calm. It is clear to the reader that the male protagonist cannot bear the thought of not having Porphyria with him and wants to stay with Porphyria in this way forever. Because of the way Browning portrays Porphyria's lover's feelings, the reader can almost sympathise with the way that the male protagonist is feeling even in the event of Porphyria's murder, 'all her hair in one long string I wound, three times her little throat around and strangled her'. With Browning creating such a big build up to Porphyria's murder and explaining it in detail, the reader recognises that this dramatic event does mean a lot to the male protagonist and Browning makes sure that this is the key event in the poem, and that it does not go unnoticed. In 'My Last Duchess' the relationship between the Duke and the Duchess seems a lot less passionate and the reader could get the impression that the two characters falsely pretend to love each other when in fact, the truth is the opposite. This impression could be made by the reader because the Duke describes the Duchess as a pleasant person to look at but he feels as if the Duchess takes him for granted and she is not grateful for the luxuries she receives as a result of her husband's popularity. This is shown on lines 32–34, 'Somehow– I know not how– as if she ranked my gift of a nine–hundred–years–old name with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Gender Stereotypes Of Male Characters In Video Games Male characters in gaming count according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Male_characters_in_video_games are 225. Female gaming characters according to http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Women_Characters_in_Video_Games are 176. Now before you come after me saying "see that's proof of sexism" lets just realize that ALOT of the male characters in these games have little to no personality. Or they are simply huge bulky guys made to simply kill things that are it. Example, Doom guy from the games first introduced December 10, 1993 introduced doom guy. A mostly emotionless space marine fighting demons, never speaks except to a grunt now and then. Male characters are most of the time are fit men. Female characters most of the time are fit women. What confuses me if no one ells is why people are so pissed about this, example, if a male gaming character is shirtless, no one gives a shit, if a female gaming character, is say in a bikini, its "sexualized". Point and case, some feminists attacked the game "hitman" for sexualizing woman and being able to kill the female strippers, but fail to take into account your a hitman, and normally you kill them if they are either in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Take GTA V, a big criticism is, as Anita sarkeesian said "you can pick up hookers, kill them, or you can either run them over. Now my argument to this is, so the fuck what, first of all why is it bad you can pick up a hooker? Shocker, hookers exist, and people pick them up. Secondly while it's not good, this happens in the real world, and GTA V is an open world, players have full control. No one is forcing you to kill anyone, in the sandbox anyway. In the campaign, you shoot at men and kill them all the time, shoot them, stab them, run them over, ect. You get into gun fights with cops regularly, most of them men, not because of sexism, but they are simulating real life. Several thousands of men are killed; nearly half as many women ...
