TIP Hannover Messe 2018
1. UAEU @ HANNOVER
LEARNINGS
UAE University, Innovation support team, Jose Berengueres, April 26th 2018. Hannover messe
The Hannover messe is a fair and now global brand that started in 1948, after WW2, as an effort to jumpstart the German economy.
It is an event by and for the mittelstand. CeBIT, the biggest electronic show in the world, was originally a spin-off of HM. Due to the
information revolution, HM now incorporates again a lot of electronics/ internet. This year over 140 exhibitors are present. With some
stands like the Dutch booth inviting over 40 inventors, 4 universities and 20 startups to showcase technical innovations in their booth.
HM is collocated with CEMAT, (a robot and automation show) and there are seven extra halls (apart of hall 2) dedicated to large
conglomerates like IBM, SAP, Siemens, an Amazon. The topic of this year is industry 4.0 – factory automation and how this will
shape the new economy. HM edits a daily newspaper, has an app to manage the hundreds of talks going on and uses the lanyrd
system to track people met during the fair with their badges. Compiled by Jose B. 26 Aril 2018, Hannover. (See report)

4. #3 USE MICRO
The Dutch booth was a favourite because its was so effective. The booth had a central
meeting area surrounded by open plan micro booth for inventors. It showcased 50%
inventions by startups and 50% by universities. Diversity of projects + coffee shop +
good lighting + realize mockups = WIN.

PARTITIONS
5. #4 AVOID “CONFRONTATIONAL”
TABLE FRONTS
The Swiss booth used a similar concept to the Dutch booth about micro spaces for
inventors. However, the partitions with a table confronting the visitors were not
visitor-friendly (psychology 101). The size of the protoypes was small and affected
the appeal to visitors. We can see the effect of not having dedicated lighting

6. #5 ONE MESSAGE PER SPACE
The SAP sub booth was clean and
functional . The Booth was never in the way
of the message.

… GAMIFY YOUR STORY
This project is a risk assessment of the supply chain,
and how poor quality in the supply chain can affect
future costs, due to recalls brand loss etc. A slot
machine is used to simulate the risk probabilities that
lead to cost increases.
