Influential figures
1.
2. A person in the film/TV industry that influences me is Joe
Dante. When I was younger, I was a huge fan of 'The
Gremlins' films. I believe they were cutting edge for the
time they were made and this is why I believe Joe Dante is
an important figure in the industry. He directed 'The
Gremlins' and, later in his career went on to direct 'Hawaii
5-0', another one of my favourite programmes. This
demonstrates his diversity as a director. As well as
directing, he also produces, edits and acts in film and TV.
He is a driven individual who values his team around him.
Although I am working alone I am relying on the people
around me to take part in the acting and giving their
honest opinion on my trailer to help me to improve
instead of only having my own decisions included.
3. Before Tobe Hooper directed ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’
in 1974, he was a college professor and documentary
camera man. Tobe Hooper influences me because he uses
real life inspiration for his gory horror. He took inspiration
from Ed Gein who was a cannibalistic serial killer
responsible for numerous deaths in the 50’s. Hooper also
directed 'Death Trap' in 1976 with the same group of
actors and crew as he did with the previous film. This
demonstrates his loyalty to his crew which makes me
respect him and that is why he influences me.
4. Alfred Hitchcock is most well know for directing the film
Psycho in 1960. He joined the film industry by drawing
sets in the 20’s. The first film he had directed himself from
start to finish was for the film Number 13 was not
completed due to the studios closure. Hitchcock's
trademark was his cameo at the beginning of each of his
films, which later changed when he realised people only
watched the film to find him. I find him an influential
person because he has a standing legacy in the industry.
In 2013 a TV horror/drama show ‘Bates Motel’ aired based
on the film psycho. This shows his style can be
contemporary.
