Top 5 Horror-Comedy Directors
Horror comedy
1. Joe Dante
Born:November 28, 1946 in Morristown, New Jersey, USA
Joe Dante is the top horror comedy director in my opinion
because he creates a very good equilibrium within films
this is because whenever there is a bit of comedy he try
to make the audience jump straight after that, this is
effective because it makes the funnier scenes in the play
funnier and the surprising bits in the film jumpier.
In our film we would like to just some of Joe Dante’s
techniques because it will mean that our film will be more
interesting to watch, which will mean that the audience
won’t get bored.
Some of Joe Dante’s conventions are that he likes to do a
close up right after mid shot which means that the
audience can see the surroundings before seeing the
characters emotions this will be a very good to use whilst
filming because it will give the scene depth and a realistic
feel.
2. Keenan Wayans
Born:June 8, 1958 in New York City, New York, USA
Keenan Wayans became famous from doing the scary
movie franchise also he was the first to achieve national
prominence by successfully creating, launching and hosting
a landmark 1990s black-oriented comedy satire on Fox TV.
In Keenan Wayans Scary Movie he used a lot of song to
create humour throughout the films he has made; this is
very effective because it would make the tension created
throughout the film greater.
One of his greatest techniques was, by letting the audience
who the villain/killer was, and the characters in the film not
knowing who it is. This would be a great technique to use
in our film because it would allow us to create a lot of
tensions throughout which would keep the audience on
edge.
3. Roger Corman
Born:April 5, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, USA
Roger William Corman was born April 5, 1926 in Detroit,
Michigan. Initially following in his father's footsteps,
Corman studied engineering at Stanford he developed a
growing interest in filmmaking
His first ever horror comedy film was the little shop of
horrors which then got remade in 1986.
One of his main functionality’s was creating a chase scene
near the ending of his films, he liked to capture the
shadows especially this was a very good way of creating
tension because the audience doesn’t like know who’s
shadow it is, this would be a good technique to use because
when our characters are being chased we could use this to
tease the audience into thinking the zombies are something
else.
4. Jake West
Jake West born 1972 is an English horror filmdirector.
One of his best films as a UK film director was the dog
house which was a very funny and also quite scary
throughout the whole film.
One of his main functionality’s is that he likes his actors to
have a lot of prosthetics on whilst acting as zombies, this is
something that we need to do before filming because the
makeup and zombie effects put on actors is what creates a
believable scene in a film
5. Joe Lee
Joe Lee is the director of Zombie strippers and he believes that a
comical story line in a horror movies helps make a very good
equilibrium to the film which will keep the audience on the edge of
their seats and keep them switching between emotions, also
because of the cast in the film also of close ups were use which
means there is normally a high appeal to male audience members.
The conventional shot that he likes to use are extreme close ups to
allow the audience to really get and understanding for a film and
to also get a feel for the film and to make them feel a part of it
without using 1st
person filming methods.
Top 5 Zombie film directors
1. Danny Boyle
Born: October 20, 1956 in Manchester, England, UK
Danny Boyle has made a lot of horror films but his biggest
hit was 28 days later, he creates a lot of tension during his
films because he creates believable characters through a
semi complex plot.
In our films we can use a semi complex to make the
audience become more asphyxiated with the plot of our
film.
I also chose him to be the top director because of the how
good his films are and because of the consistency of his
films.
2. Edgar Wright
Born:April 18, 1974
Edgar Wright was the director for the film “Grind House”
which was a zombie, action film which used a lot of special
effects that can be created with programs that are
available at school.
In most of his films there are loads of gun shots which
take time to make, this will be an essential in our film
because it will make our film very realistic and also action
packed.
Gunshots are used in almost every zombie film. This
means that it is one of the key conventions in our genre.
3. Zack Snyder
Born: March 1, 1966 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
He directed dawn of the dead which was a very good
film because of where it was filmed in very believable
set which is what makes a film believable, and also sets
the scene making a film familiar to the audience.
In our films we can make it more believable, this is a
very important aspect of a film because it allows the
audience to find out what the characters are feeling and
also what is going to happen later on.
An example of this is when the zombies are coming we
can see that the sky turns purple and there is always
music to acquaint it.
4. Francis Lawrence
Born: March 26, 1971 in Vienna, Austria
Francis Lawrence is an Austrian-American music video, film, and
television director and producer.
He did the film I am legend which was a great zombie film which
had a lot of action in it, he used a lot of animals in his films
because they can create a violent characters through animals
but they can also create characters which are friendly and
perceived as man’s best friend.
We could use animals in our films to create a zombie film to
create a believable plot which the audience can relate to this
would mean that the film would have more depth in it.
5. Born:John Casey Walker
December 20, 1975 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada
Whilst directing most films John walker likes to use a lot of prosthetics on a
low or high budget which really helps us because we had a low budget, so
what he did was use a lot of blood and cover the zombies faces which still
made them look realistic and scary.
Combining this with a lot of close ups is a good technique that he uses to
scare the audience because they do not expect it and it catches them off guard
which makes the audience jump a lot during his films, this is good however is
doesn’t create a good equilibrium to his films because they are scary most of
the way through the film which can cause I film to become boring or tedious.
