Introduction
• Popularly known as “MOCAP”
• 3D representation of a live performance
• Performance actions are digitally recorded by
camaras which track key points on the
performer’s body as head , hands , legs and
feet
History of Motion Capture
• Use of motion capture to animate characters on
computer is relatively recent
• It is started in the 1970’s and now just begining to
spread
• Motion capture is recording the moments of the body
• Capture motion can be exported to various forms like
bbh,bip,fbx etc., which is used to animate 3D
characters in 3Dsmax,maya,poser,iclone,blender etc
• To make most convincing human moment in “snow
white” Disney studios design animation film on a film
play or real player this method is called rotoscoping.
Key frame animation
A key frame in animation and film making is a
drawing that defines the starting and ending points
of any smooth transition
technology
• Today technology is caching is good and
diverse. We can classify into three broad
categories:
 mechanical motion capture
optical motion capture
the magnetic motion capture
Mechanical motion capture
This technique of motion capture is achieved
through the use of an exoskeleton.
Each joint is then connected to an angular encoder
Optical motion capture
•The capture is based on
optical shooting several
synchronized cameras
•The cameras emit radiation
reflected by the markers and
return to same cameras
•Markers will be viewed as
white spots and position in
virtual space can be
determined
Magnetic motion capture
•Utilize sensors placed on
the body to measure the low
frequency magnetic field
generated by a transmitter
source.
•The sensor reports the
position and rotational
information

advantages
• More rapid, even real time results can be
obtained in entertainment application this can
reduce the cost of key frame-based animation
• Complex moment and realistic physical
interaction such as secondary motion weight
and exchange of forces can be easily recreated
in a physically accurate manner.
• Potential for free software and third party
solutions reducing its cost
disadvantages
• Specific hardware and special programs are
required to obtain and process the data.
• The cost of the software, equipment and
personal required can potentially be
prohibitive for small productions.
• Moments that does not follow the laws of
physics generally can not be captured

Although the motion capture requires some
technical means, we can quit get what to do it
yourself at home in a reasonable cost that can
make your own short film
Motion capture is a major step forward in the field
of cinema as you can reprocess the image in a
more simple, in fact, it is easier to modify an
image captured a classic scene although this is
too expensive but it is also a major asset in
medicine.
