The document introduces Hans-Peter Krohn, a Munich-based photographer. Krohn uses a technique called "lightpainting" to create abstract photographs. His work has been exhibited in German galleries and he is now looking to expand internationally. He provides samples of his lightpainting work and details his artistic process and body of work.

LIGHTPAINTING
PORTFOLIO
The Munich photographer H.P.K. likes to use the term lightpainting to make it easier to
get into what must be called abstract photographs.
In actual fact, his pictures approach more the artistic expression of the plain surface art
originating from painting or graphics, and yet they are nevertheless different. Should
the pictorial surface art require a base in order to apply the color pigments in
whatever kind of form language, Krohn’s color pictures are the framework in
themselves, and their pigmentary photographic layers are “exposed” totally freely, an
expressive expression of stringent formality.
H.P.K. obviously has a great command of the multifarious possibilities of photographic
materials. In producing his pictures, he uses tactile techniques, body moving sequences
with moving optic. Any comparisons drawn with Pollock’s painting can be made with
very good reason.
With H.P.K. as he likes to explain himself, it can well be that the artistic final product is
first created in his head. His special technique then, to a large extent, expresses this
image, thereby creating a non-repeatable and no longer to be manipulated unique
work of art.
Even those who are unfamiliar with such styles of working realize that there has been
absolutely no recourse to using any kind of ohotographic tricks such as double-
exposures or negative shifts.
The lightpainter’s convictions would not tolerate such optical superficial tricks. The final
product is therefore always the entire photo without any cuts or partial cuts.
Only when creating the final product does H.P.K. go a significant step further. This
Gemini spirit cuts his formats into double pictures or triptichons and thus creates
additional refractions of the motifs. An interesting moment of tension which the
observer can get into.
If we pursue the most recent work of the ligt painter we can see that his images point
the way to greater strictness in forms, a discipline which leads him to almost
monographic espression. The colors are more pastel, the shapes more extensive,
covering greater surfaces.
Without a doubt, the photographer and musician H.P.K., who works exclusively with
35mm camera, has touched on virgin territory with his art. We await his next steps
with excitement. It’s going to be exciting to follow.
