Deadpan photography moves the art form away from hyperbolic or subjective styles by engaging viewers with emotive subjects while not revealing the photographer's emotions, instead using technical precision and visual information to command understanding. These deadpan photos, presented pristinely and rich in detail, lent themselves well to galleries becoming privileged spaces to experience photography. Some examples mentioned are the work of Laurenz Berges, Candida Hofer, Albert Renger-Patsch, August Sander, and Erwin Blumenfeld.
