Final Research Paper/Argumentative Essay
Required sources:
Primary -- The Big Thirst by Charles Fishman
Secondary –Seven to Ten sources from theCSUB library
database— Your sources must include at least four academic
journal articles, a book, and a newspaper or other periodicals.
Internet sources (limited to only two) must be justifiably
academic. Topics should include desalination, water treatment
and water uses, scarcity, misuse, and water issues that are
political, social, economic, cultural, governmental, global,
historical, agricultural, and other relevant subjects. The paper
should be approximately 8 to 10 pages written in MLA format,
Times New Roman 12 point font. This research paper should be
properly documented with a Works Cited page. Your writing
process will include a Working thesis, Annotated bibliography,
Outline, Rough draft #1 & #2, and a Final draft.
Tertiary-- While not required, you may use tertiary sources such
as the links and videos found under The Big Thirst Content
folder in Bb as well as other sources you may find in the form
of articles, periodicals, videos, images, songs, news, television
shows, websites, and interviews.
Final Research Argumentative Essay Prompt—
· One of the most important “sources” of water is conservation.
If cities can teach their residents, and their corporate customers,
to use less water, they can create the ability to add more
residents and more economic activity without having to add
more water.
· One place that has done this dramatically is Las Vegas. But
Las Vegas also has very strict water rules—the city regulates
everything from the kind of hose nozzle you can use to wash
your car to whether or not you can have a front lawn.
· Would you be comfortable living with these kinds of water
rules? Would they make sense in your community, even if it
isn’t as dry as Las Vegas?
· Did the set of rules and practices that Las Vegas imposed to
change water habits inspire any ideas for a different set of
water-use rules in your own community?
Research and write an argumentative essay in which you take a
strong position that considers, analyzes, and answers these
questions. Make sure you consider all of the perspectives to
water scarcity problems including political, historical,
economic, social, cultural, environmental, governmental,
agricultural, and other relevant issues. Remember to include
important topics such as water usage, water treatment, water
recycling, and other ways to increase or manage water
resources. Don’t forget to find out about local water supplies in
your community such as state water allotment, aquifers,
reservoirs, rivers, ocean, and any other water “revenues” that
can be considered.
You will develop a strong thesis statement that argues for a
water solution, which takes into account all of the factors
described above. Choose five major ideas from your research
from which you can develop your thesis. Make sure you include
a counterargument that will address opposition to your claims.
Your introduction should provide an overview of your ideas
with your thesis. Your five major ideas should transition
fluently from one to another while continuing to relate all of
your thoughts back to your thesis. Write a strong finish in your
conclusion, which includes a neat wrap-up of your research and
argument, and convinces your audience to think, feel, believe,
and act upon your position.

Mazoor Qadir, "Waste water production, treatment, and"
irrigtion in the middle east and north Africa" (2009), was about
the problem that water affected the region for years, and how
did they fix it with wastewater mangment, the area only have
1% of the world fresh water, and this article can help to show a
good soultion to fix water problems in dry places such as las
vegas
Enas R.Shouman, " Econmic of Renewble Energy for Water
Desalintin in Devolping countries" (2015), the aim of the article
is to investigate the ecomic of renewble energy- powered
deslination, as applied to water supply for remote coastal and
deser communities in devolped countries. it shows the cost it
takes to fix the water problems. and desalintion devolpment
impact in the soultion to water issues.
Lang Junxi, "Thoretocal insights into three types of
oxidized strach-based adhesives: chemical stabiliy, water
restance ,and sharing viscosity from a moleculer view point"to
better understand water problems, we have to understand the
orgin of it, and how can we fix the problem using science, this
article can help me see the water from a diffierent view than a
liquid, but an essiensal.
Heyday, remaking california : reclaming the public good,
was a really intersing book, were the leaders come together, and
agree that they have a water problem, in california, and how to
put rules in water conservation, that helps the public, to stop
wasting to much water. in this dry land. this show if the rules
that california made, is like the rules in nevada or not. and what
kind of rules would work?
Shevah, " Water scaricty, water reuse, and environmental
safety",(2014), this article talks about how water scarcity is the
most pressisng challenge, with the dry climate and effects of
global warming are leading to increase the pressure ti neager
water resources causing a rapid quality degradion of chronically
depleted water resources, while holding a great risk on the
health of the population.
A. Shaikh " Rrecycling of washig and rinsing textile waste
water in cotton dyeing folowing an o3 treatment" this study
show the potential of reusubg washing and rinsing wastewater
after it was treated with ozone(O3) Experimental results showed
that 95 to 100% colour removal effciences were achieved in
composite waste water sample in only 10 to 30 min. this is a
great soultion using science and chimsitry.
Luckmann, Jonas, " When water saving limits recycling:
Modelling economy-wide linkages of wastewater use" this
article claimed that wastewater recycling is a cheap and reliable
form of water supply, which preserves water resources and is
economically efficient. However, the quantity of reclaimed
wastewater depends on water consumption by economic agents
connected to a sewage system.
NICHOLAS ST. FLEUR, "Two-Thirds of the World Faces
Severe Water Shortages", article talks about how great the
problem really is, and it devid the shortage of water to levels
from 1 to 12, and he shows whitch countries suffer the most for
example China and india. and he gives some soultions to the
problem.

Water is a liquid?
A Water as a word can be many thing. A drinking water,
bathing and washing dishes, and it can also mean rain water.
When we look around us we see water everywhere. In our
house, in the street, at work, or even inside our bodies. Water
can be everywhere and without we will go nowhere. We need
water to stay alive, and we need it to feel clean and fresh. In
this time water shortage have increased globally in the last 10
years. The water usage and public demand on water became
higher. Nowadays there are 7 billion people in the earth, and
many scientist think that the capacity of earth is only 5. if we
do not look through the issue and study it, and learn from the
previous crisis's in water such as Australia's drought, we will
suffer from the same fait, and everyone will parish. We need to
start conserving water more , and stop wasting time and energy
on other things not as important as water.
When we look at Las Vegas, we can see a city that temperaure
there is 100 degree for 72 days in the year, and Vegas is the
driest city in the United states. With the right rules of
conserving water they managed to overcome the crisis, with
only relying on one source of water. We can learn many things
from Vegas such as, even if your land is dry with the right
mentality we can
overcome and the issue and make a benefit from it . The rules of
vegas are strict however, without these rules, they would not
achieve the accomplish in water conserving
Major idea 2(kind of rules that helps. About four billion people,
or two-thirds of the world’s population, face severe water
shortages during at least one month every year, far more than
was previously thought, according to Arjen Y. Hoekstra, a
professor of water management at the University of Twente in
the Netherland. We can create rules to conserve water such as,
the amount each house can use , and these rules can be strict
however it’s the only way to make a great community
Major 3 (waste water treatment in the middle east) The Middle
East and North Africa (MENA) region is the driest region of the
world with only 1% of the world’s freshwater resources. The
increasing competition for good-quality water has cut into
agriculture’s water share but since the use of freshwater for
domestic, industrial and municipal activities generates
wastewater, the volume of wastewater used in agriculture has
increased. About 43% of wastewater generated in the MENA
region is treated; a relatively high percentage compared to other
developing-country dominated regions. This is because of the
perceived importance of wastewater as a water resource and
several oil-rich countries with the resources to treat wastewater
Major 4 (Israel water solution) Israel made a water solution
that helped the shortage in water in the middle easy in building
a dynamic, thriving society. By boldly thinking about water,
Israel has transformed the normally change-averse, water-
greedy world of agriculture with innovations like drip
irrigation, creation of smart seeds for drought-friendly plants,
and careful reuse of highly treated waste-water
Major 5 (economic impact and science)The reclamation of
wastewater is an increasingly important water source in parts of
the world. It is claimed that wastewater recycling is a cheap and
reliable form of water supply, which preserves water resources
and is economically efficient. However, the quantity of
reclaimed wastewater depends on water consumption by
economic agents connected to a sewage system. This study uses
a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model to analyze
such a cascading water system. A case study of Israel shows
that failing to include this linkage can lead to an overestimation
of the potential of wastewater recycling, and other
experimental results showed that 95, 98, and 100% color
removal efficiencies were achieved in a composite wastewater
sample at 10, 20, and 30 minutes of O3 treatment, respectively.
Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and pH values were also found
to be decreasing with increasing treatment time.

ENG 1109-22, 23, 27/Harris/Fall 2016 Final Research Paper/Argumentative Essay Required sources: Primary -- The Big Thirst by Charles Fishman Secondary –Seven to Ten sources from theCSUB library
  • 3. database— Your sources must include at least four academic journal articles, a book, and a newspaper or other periodicals. Internet sources (limited to only two) must be justifiably academic. Topics should include desalination, water treatment and water uses, scarcity, misuse, and water issues that are political, social, economic, cultural, governmental, global, historical, agricultural, and other relevant subjects. The paper should be approximately 8 to 10 pages written in MLA format, Times New Roman 12 point font. This research paper should be properly documented with a Works Cited page. Your writing process will include a Working thesis, Annotated bibliography, Outline, Rough draft #1 & #2, and a Final draft. Tertiary-- While not required, you may use tertiary sources such as the links and videos found under The Big Thirst Content folder in Bb as well as other sources you may find in the form of articles, periodicals, videos, images, songs, news, television shows, websites, and interviews. Final Research Argumentative Essay Prompt— · One of the most important “sources” of water is conservation. If cities can teach their residents, and their corporate customers, to use less water, they can create the ability to add more residents and more economic activity without having to add more water. · One place that has done this dramatically is Las Vegas. But Las Vegas also has very strict water rules—the city regulates everything from the kind of hose nozzle you can use to wash your car to whether or not you can have a front lawn. · Would you be comfortable living with these kinds of water rules? Would they make sense in your community, even if it isn’t as dry as Las Vegas?
  • 4. · Did the set of rules and practices that Las Vegas imposed to change water habits inspire any ideas for a different set of water-use rules in your own community? Research and write an argumentative essay in which you take a strong position that considers, analyzes, and answers these questions. Make sure you consider all of the perspectives to water scarcity problems including political, historical, economic, social, cultural, environmental, governmental, agricultural, and other relevant issues. Remember to include important topics such as water usage, water treatment, water recycling, and other ways to increase or manage water resources. Don’t forget to find out about local water supplies in your community such as state water allotment, aquifers, reservoirs, rivers, ocean, and any other water “revenues” that can be considered. You will develop a strong thesis statement that argues for a water solution, which takes into account all of the factors described above. Choose five major ideas from your research from which you can develop your thesis. Make sure you include a counterargument that will address opposition to your claims. Your introduction should provide an overview of your ideas with your thesis. Your five major ideas should transition fluently from one to another while continuing to relate all of your thoughts back to your thesis. Write a strong finish in your conclusion, which includes a neat wrap-up of your research and argument, and convinces your audience to think, feel, believe, and act upon your position. rayan alsabr ENG 110 final research paper bibliography 12/1/2016
  • 5. water Mazoor Qadir, "Waste water production, treatment, and" irrigtion in the middle east and north Africa" (2009), was about the problem that water affected the region for years, and how did they fix it with wastewater mangment, the area only have 1% of the world fresh water, and this article can help to show a good soultion to fix water problems in dry places such as las vegas Enas R.Shouman, " Econmic of Renewble Energy for Water Desalintin in Devolping countries" (2015), the aim of the article is to investigate the ecomic of renewble energy- powered deslination, as applied to water supply for remote coastal and deser communities in devolped countries. it shows the cost it takes to fix the water problems. and desalintion devolpment impact in the soultion to water issues. Lang Junxi, "Thoretocal insights into three types of oxidized strach-based adhesives: chemical stabiliy, water restance ,and sharing viscosity from a moleculer view point"to better understand water problems, we have to understand the orgin of it, and how can we fix the problem using science, this article can help me see the water from a diffierent view than a liquid, but an essiensal. Heyday, remaking california : reclaming the public good, was a really intersing book, were the leaders come together, and agree that they have a water problem, in california, and how to put rules in water conservation, that helps the public, to stop wasting to much water. in this dry land. this show if the rules that california made, is like the rules in nevada or not. and what kind of rules would work? • 6. safety",(2014), this article talks about how water scarcity is the most pressisng challenge, with the dry climate and effects of global warming are leading to increase the pressure ti neager water resources causing a rapid quality degradion of chronically depleted water resources, while holding a great risk on the health of the population. A. Shaikh " Rrecycling of washig and rinsing textile waste water in cotton dyeing folowing an o3 treatment" this study show the potential of reusubg washing and rinsing wastewater after it was treated with ozone(O3) Experimental results showed that 95 to 100% colour removal effciences were achieved in composite waste water sample in only 10 to 30 min. this is a great soultion using science and chimsitry. Luckmann, Jonas, " When water saving limits recycling: Modelling economy-wide linkages of wastewater use" this article claimed that wastewater recycling is a cheap and reliable form of water supply, which preserves water resources and is economically efficient. However, the quantity of reclaimed wastewater depends on water consumption by economic agents connected to a sewage system. NICHOLAS ST. FLEUR, "Two-Thirds of the World Faces Severe Water Shortages", article talks about how great the problem really is, and it devid the shortage of water to levels from 1 to 12, and he shows whitch countries suffer the most for example China and india. and he gives some soultions to the problem. rayan alsabr ENG1010-24/Harris final essay outline 11/28/2016

Rayan alsabr Eng 1010-27/Harris Final essay 2st Draft 12/1/2016 Water is a liquid? A Water as a word can be many thing. A drinking water, bathing and washing dishes, and it can also mean rain water. When we look around us we see water everywhere. In our house, in the street, at work, or even inside our bodies. Water can be everywhere and without we will go nowhere. We need water to stay alive, and we need it to feel clean and fresh. In this time water shortage have increased globally in the last 10 years. The water usage and public demand on water became higher. Nowadays there are 7 billion people in the earth, and many scientist think that the capacity of earth is only 5. if we do not look through the issue and study it, and learn from the previous crisis's in water such as Australia's drought, we will
  • 8. suffer from the same fait, and everyone will parish. We need to start conserving water more , and stop wasting time and energy on other things not as important as water. When we look at Las Vegas, we can see a city that temperaure there is 100 degree for 72 days in the year, and Vegas is the driest city in the United states. With the right rules of conserving water they managed to overcome the crisis, with only relying on one source of water. We can learn many things from Vegas such as, even if your land is dry with the right mentality we can overcome and the issue and make a benefit from it . The rules of vegas are strict however, without these rules, they would not achieve the accomplish in water conserving Major idea 2(kind of rules that helps. About four billion people, or two-thirds of the world’s population, face severe water shortages during at least one month every year, far more than was previously thought, according to Arjen Y. Hoekstra, a professor of water management at the University of Twente in the Netherland. We can create rules to conserve water such as, the amount each house can use , and these rules can be strict however it’s the only way to make a great community Major 3 (waste water treatment in the middle east) The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is the driest region of the world with only 1% of the world’s freshwater resources. The increasing competition for good-quality water has cut into agriculture’s water share but since the use of freshwater for domestic, industrial and municipal activities generates wastewater, the volume of wastewater used in agriculture has increased. About 43% of wastewater generated in the MENA region is treated; a relatively high percentage compared to other developing-country dominated regions. This is because of the perceived importance of wastewater as a water resource and several oil-rich countries with the resources to treat wastewater Major 4 (Israel water solution) Israel made a water solution that helped the shortage in water in the middle easy in building
  • 9. a dynamic, thriving society. By boldly thinking about water, Israel has transformed the normally change-averse, water- greedy world of agriculture with innovations like drip irrigation, creation of smart seeds for drought-friendly plants, and careful reuse of highly treated waste-water Major 5 (economic impact and science)The reclamation of wastewater is an increasingly important water source in parts of the world. It is claimed that wastewater recycling is a cheap and reliable form of water supply, which preserves water resources and is economically efficient. However, the quantity of reclaimed wastewater depends on water consumption by economic agents connected to a sewage system. This study uses a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model to analyze such a cascading water system. A case study of Israel shows that failing to include this linkage can lead to an overestimation of the potential of wastewater recycling, and other experimental results showed that 95, 98, and 100% color removal efficiencies were achieved in a composite wastewater sample at 10, 20, and 30 minutes of O3 treatment, respectively. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and pH values were also found to be decreasing with increasing treatment time. Counter argument water de conclsion References Fishman, Charles.
