Matter can exist in three states: solid, liquid, and gas. Solids have a firm structure and hold their shape, like rocks and tables. Liquids can flow freely but maintain a fixed volume, such as water and soda. Gases have no fixed shape or volume and spread out to fill their container, including oxygen and butane.
