3. Introduction - Women have always played an active role, though indirect in maintain' the high morale of the Armed Forces by way of participating in various welfare and social activities of various branches of the Armed Forces. In Continuation to its futuristic, progressive and modern approach, women are now expected to play an active, direct role in shouldering the duties also. The 3 services have been recruiting women candidates for some select branches for short service commission which is of 5 to 10 years duration. There are various ways in which women are entered into the Indian Army. There are various eligibility criteria's for women required in different short service commission.
