Education
Psychologist (cum laude), Master of Arts in Education of the Gifted and
Talented (honorable mention) from the Universidad de las Américas and PhD in
Education from the Universidad La Salle.
Training in Brief Counseling and Therapy (Instituto Mexicano de Terapias Breves
certified by the Mental Research Institute at Palo Alto, California) and Jungian
Therapy (Centro Mexicano Carl Jung). ABD in the Master in Science of
Experimental Analysis of Behavior at UNAM. Teaching for Understanding course in
Harvard’s Graduate School of Education distance program.
Professional Experience
Over 25 years of experience in education and training both as a teacher and in
executive positions. Has developed several undergraduate and graduate programs
(Psychology and Special Education), and is a member of the curricular design
committee for UNAM’s on-line high school program. Has directed over 40 thesis
projects, most of them at the undergraduate level, one at the doctorate level and
currently is directing three more at the doctoral level.
During 18 years work at Universidad de las Americas, redesigned and coordinated
the Psychology and Special Education programs, was director of its OIRA Clinic,
and was Director of Continuing Education. Coordinated several non-degree
certificate courses and the MBA and Special Education master’s degrees. Also
supervised the Language Center. Participated in the self study and other
institutional evaluation processes of SACS and FIMPES. The only areas that
received commendations from SACS during its accreditation visit in 1994 were the
Continuing Education Center and the Language Center, which she coordinated.
Also served as academic consultant at Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de
México.
At present coordinates the science and math curriculum of the new on-line high
school program at UNAM. For 15 years has been a counselor for gifted children
and a therapist for teenagers and parents. Is an ASCD member.
Professor at Universidad de las Américas, Universidad Iberoamericana, Universidad
Panamericana, Westhill University, Centro de Estudios para Directores de Escuelas
Particulares, Centro Nacional de Rehabilitación, ITESM, UNAM on-line high school
program y at the Educational Doctorate at Universidad La Salle, generally in
2. teacher development programs. Teaches in both Spanish and English. Areas of
expertise include: constructivism, cognitive and metacognitive skills and creativity.
Co-author of 12 books on education and psychology, including Psicología
cognitiva, estrategias en la práctica docente (three printings) and Didáctica.
Estraegias de éxito en Latinoamérica y España (two printings), both at McGraw
Hill. Also a co-author of two books published by Santillana for middle school
students. Author of De maestro a tutor by Editorial Paidós.
At Colegio Hebreo Tarbut was a consultant for educational innovation for two years
in the middle school program and for three additional years advised K-12 teachers
and administrative staff during their preparation for IB certification. Took the IB
ToK and Evaluation through rubrics workshops. Developed enrichment programs,
publications (such as a booklet of research projects by middle school students) and
contributed to several projects involving promotion of educational quality.
Awards
The Asociación Mexicana de Educación Continua y a Distancia presented her in
2005 its national award for contributions in continuing and distance education and
the Asociación Nacional de Universidades e Instituciones de Educación Superior
presented her and Carmen Villatoro with the 2009 Educational Innovation Award in
Distance Learning.
