Dear Coldwell Banker® Broker/Owner,
In our pursuit to make OpenHouse.com the consumer destination spot for open houses, we are excited to share
with you the news that tomorrow Realogy will announce that the OpenHouse.com site will soon begin accepting
bulk data feeds from any franchisors or brokers across the entire real estate industry who wish to join you in
posting their open house listings on this neutral site.
This is great news for consumers and the industry. Home buyers and sellers will have a comprehensive, easy-
to-use Web site to search and market open houses, while brokers will now have an even more compelling place
to target their open houses and reduce their newspaper classified advertising costs. In our opinion, classified
advertising for open houses is too expensive and grossly ineffective.
We heard from you loud and clear that OpenHouse.com would be an even bigger attraction to consumers if it
could be open to every broker, rather than keeping it exclusive to Coldwell Banker® and the other Realogy-
affiliated brokers. Unlike the fee exemption for Coldwell Banker-affiliated brokers, there will be a nominal, one-
time, set-up fee to establish each non-Realogy broker's incoming data feed. As promised, there are no recurring
fees for any broker to post listings on OpenHouse.com.
Clearly, consumer statistics are also driving this latest move. The National Association of Realtors® 2007 Profile
of Homebuyers and Sellers found that 78% of buyers said the Internet was a very useful source for real estate
information, yet only 17% said the same about print newspaper advertising. Even more compelling is NAR's
finding that almost half (48%) of buyers surveyed said that newspaper advertising was not useful in the home
buying process, yet just 1% said the Internet was not useful.
In our opinion, consumers' extensive use of the Internet in the home buying process is enabling our industry to
shift from expensive newspaper classified advertising into the nearly free online arena - and with this major
enhancement to OpenHouse.com, we are once again leading the charge.
For more information, the press release will be posted on www.realogy.com on Wednesday, January 9. If you
are not already marking your open houses in your daily CREST EDG data feed for automatic posting on
OpenHouse.com, we encourage you to speak to your Coldwell Banker Business Consultant to learn how easy
it is.
Sincerely,
Alex Perriello Jim Gillespie
