The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began in April 1943 when German troops entered the Warsaw ghetto to deport the remaining Jewish residents. Around 750 Jewish fighters resisted the deportations and were able to hold out for almost a month before the uprising was suppressed on May 16. In the summer of 1942, around 300,000 Jews had already been removed from their homes in Warsaw and sent to the Treblinka death camp.
